[Q] Disabling TetherinGuard - AT&T, Rogers HTC One X, Telstra One XL

Now that we have root, do you guys think it is possible to disable or bypass this TetheringGuard process that shows that the "To enable mobile hotspot... dial 611"?

I froze TeatheringGuard 1.0.22 using TiBu but now instead of getting the message, it just sits at processing when trying to enable wi-fi teather. Must be something else blocking it too

I just installed wifi tether for root users from the market and use that instead.

Sounds exactly like how it behaves on Samsung ICS leaks. You can't simply disable or remove the apk.

oh man so wifi tether works fine using that app?

Yes

Yea they must of changed some things in ICS. Method worked fine for galaxy note on gingerbread

"Wifi Tether for Root" market app works fine on my ATT OneX after rooting.
All I did was change the Device-profile to "Generic ICS", since on Auto it would start tethering, but not show up as a detected network.

Yeah, that old method works fine on GB on all Samsung devices. But won't work on all the new ICS leaks. AT&T finally caught up on this hack.

Is this a real question? Once it's rooted you can do practically anything you want.

Not so fast. The Aria community still can't get any wifi hotspot apps working. We believe AT&T has done some fooling around with the kernel to prevent these apps from working. We do have tethering working over USB though.

So how do i make wifi tethering work on ICS

without paying for it ?????????????
I haven't updated yet. Are you rooted? If so, can you not get away with freezing the tethering manager apk like on gb?

As of now this is not working. Looks like ATT caught onto this. I really don't want to use a 3rd party app and I'm DEFINATELY not giving up my unl data...
can you install any of the tethering apps on ICS? (I'm still on GB haven't tried - just suggestions to those on ICS - and yes I'm waiting for a custom ROM to be released)

I use FoxFi. https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.foxfi
I would like to know this as well.
Before ICS I would use the popular WiFi Tether app, using a Device-Profile of "Samsung Galaxy S" and Setup-Method "Netd (master)" and it worked perfectly with no errors. Now on ICS with the same settings and build it starts up, but with an error. Almost everything in the log has a successful green "done" status, the only thing that failed is "activating wifi interface".
Any ideas?
Ok ive done nothing and now my tether hotspot is now unlocked and I can use it without any apps on ics
Forget me I figured it out

From tethering tap 'Portable Wi-Fi hotspot', then Menu -> Configure(Wi-Fi hotspot)
...
Also noticed that tapping the '3 sliders' on the left toggle between 'all devices can be connected' vs. 'only allowed devices can be connected' via MAC filtering.
Regular Android WIFI Tether is working for me, set the Device Profile to Samsung Galaxy Nexus (GSM)
I would like to see native Hotspot working though, I can tell the difference between native and 3rd party apps.

don't do it...you will not be able to enable it (the settings ui will crash )
Here you go:

It'll say it's not supported, but it'll connect anyway. I'm at an ice skating place typing this on my Kindle and my phone in my pocket.
Yeah I am now running the latest version of Android wifi tether (v3_1-beta11) with the device-profile as samsung galaxy nexus and setup-method under auto. Wifi tether works perfectly now.

Interesting... it wasn't there the first time I flashed ICS.
One of the first things I went looking for.
I'm on my "third time is a charm" flash and now I see it.
Killing it will break the UI.

Wifi Tether

I successfully rooted my device (thanks kennethpenn!) this morning. I installed "Wireless Tether for Root Users" but it doesnt seem to work. Has anyone gotten it to work or have a recommendation for a different kind of wifi tethering solution? EasyTether works with a usb cable, but I'd like wifi (or possibly bluetooth).

What kind of device are you connecting from? The auto profile did not work for me, and the Generic ICS profile causes my Win7 laptop to blue screen!!
In the WiFi Tether app faq on their Google code page, one of the known issues is that the app doesn't always work with Intel wireless adapters.
Naturally, my laptop has an Intel wireless adapter. That doesn't explain why my other devices don't work, though.
The app starts, and my laptop (win 7), my SGS2 (cm9), and my iPod (v5.1.1) all see the ssid, but none can successfully connect to it. I've tried all the permutations of the settings which I can think might help, and have gotten nowhere with it.
Basically, I'm just stumped.
Bleh.

I know at&t is pretty strict on tethering. Is this detectable by them? Or have any of you been contacted by at&t about tethering without a tether plan? I want to root and tether too, but scared. lol

I think its a matter more of usage more than anything else. I dont know too much about it, but I think that there are different ways to enable the tethering and some hide it better than others. So long as you are not like... using absurd amounts of data on an unlimited plan or the like, I think it can be hard for them to really detect it.

[Q] How can I get Wi-Fi tether to work on CM10.1?

I have tried nearly every combination of settings I can think of. I originally had CM10, then dirty flashed to 10.1. Everything seems to be working swell with the rom, but I cannot get tethering to work. I leave security to "open" too. How should I set it up? Netd-master? Device on Auto? I have even switched those up. MMS clamping and routing fix are both checked as well.
Any suggestions?
Thanks in advance.

I have only had luck when the 4.2 rom had the built-in wifi hotspot hacked, any other 3rd party wifi tether wouldn't work

I just use the WiFi toggle. It works for the most part. Most can get it to work that way. When in doubt I use pdanet but I'll work with it a little tomorrow.

Tethering help :(

Hey guys,
Here's what, my phone manages to establish a connection with my computer just fine, as it is able to with other devices. But apparently, it does NOT share my 3g while it's at it. I guess it's a common problem?

Oh and bluetooth tethering does not work either(similarly)

The only way that I know of to tether without root is to pay your carrier a fee (most probably a monthly fee) to enable it for you.
There are apps in the playstore that are supposed to work, but I haven't tried any so I can't say how well they work.

WiFi or USB? I've only used WiFi, but not in a while so I'll double check it when I get home in a couple of hours. As far as USB tethering goes, I may be wrong but I think you'd have to have something installed on your computer that supports it. A friend of mine uses PDAnet on both his phone and PC to USB tether his desktop but I don't know if something like that is required.
