What will this do?This will root your One X, install Busybox, and install the SuperSU application for rights management.Instructions
Download and install the HTC mobile phone drivers. [Windows]
Download the mod edit: link removed
Extract root.zip into a directory on your computer.
Plug your HTC One X into your computer via USB. Recommended: Plug your device’s USB cable into the back of your computer if you’re using a desktop PC.
Enable USB Debugging on your HTC One X. Settings >> Developer Options >>USB debugging (checked)
Double click root.bat/root-linux.sh/root-mac.sh to run the script.
Congratulations! Your device will reboot a number of times and then you will have full root access.
Who do I thank?Don't thank me. Thank sparkym3 for this exploit. Thank crisis187 for testing it out first! Thanks viperboy for the primetime tool!Linux/Mac untested. Should be working now. Let me know if there are problems.

Thanks Kpenn!
You are a gentleman and a scholar

Inside root.zip there's only "root.img"

Now it should work. File host problem. My bad guys!

Restored with my retail RUU and ran this, worked perfectly!

Tips:
-Disable HTC Sync when you do this
-Make sure the port is open
-kill existing ADB.exe processes
otherwise you can get adb server out of date messages and a few other errors

If your adb is giving errors try to disable firewall - that happened to me

So this method is anonymous? As in htc wouldnt know?

Can anyone confirm this is a working root for at&t X ?

This is not a bootloader unlock, if that's what you're thinking. It's just root access.

Yep. Works well. Uploading a proof picture soon.

Mind if I ask, is any issues w/ it ? I saw another thread (perma root method) but read it caused phone to be sluggish. Is this all good ? Thnx

Linux/Mac support added, although untested. Let me know if there are problems.

Works! For ATT version
Many thanks! Super User app installed and updated itself. Reports good.
Not sluggish.
Had to stop the sync and adb in task manager to get it to work (or errors) as mentioned above. ESET antivirus wasn't a problem to the process. Windows 7 64.

Well well well! This is something great to wake up to! This and Chuck Norris not killing me in my sleep. Thank you kpenn and baby Jesus!

i just re-rooted my phone from stock, testing the Unroot now
Edit: it seems unroot didnt work, though like mentioned above you would only want to unroot incase of hardware issue or you want t replace the phone wit T-Mo, but thats all good now cause i posted a working Odin image earlier.

First off thank you for the easy root But now I have an issue, the SD card wont work, looks like it wont find the extension anyone know how to fix this? Ive used many different card and none read but I know all work. Without this I cant do a ROM
Try reformatting the card? Did they work before you rooted? do they work again if you unroot?
They worked before the root, I didn't unroot yet. When you out then in the phone and go to the SD card setting it shows nothing. Just says unavailable. So I can't even format it on the phone. I've formatted them in many ways on the pc too
HTC EVO = my best friend
did you try pulling out the sdcard and putting it back in? does it show a blank sdcard, or no sdcard at all?

Here's a tool that was supported a little longer than super one click and is for just Motorola. If you run into issues there is a link to get help at bottom of instructions. Motorola root
But it sounds like a USB driver issue if your having trouble with multiple tools. I would make sure to update your android drivers and troubleshoot any other USB related issues on your end.

It seems you may not have root. I would maybe try one of the more popular rooting methods that you have already tried since you figured out the issued with your USB drivers. It would probably be ideal to find a tool to return your phone to stock and then root again. I know a lot of rooting methods don't work well on a phone that has been through a root process already. It's always best to root from complete stock Rom.

[dev] Basic Hacking Tools

Disclaimer: This is untested on HTC devices. I would like this tested on an HTC device. This is a test of Cross-Platformability.
Introduction: I call this package my Basic Hacking Tools. This will install BASH, Busybox, IPCTool, STrace, TCPDump, and ViewMem. These are some of the most powerful tools available in the Linux terminal.
Requirements: You must be rooted. This runs on a Windows, Mac or Linux Desktop/Laptop.
Download: http://www.mediafire.com/?44bgg1pxd8aulbe
Running the application: Ensure you have Java on your computer. Double-click, or right-click-open with java. Ensure your device is in development or debug mode, connect it, click the do it button.
Testing: upon completion, open a terminal emulator program and type 'su' then 'tcpdump'. You should immediately begin seeing all network communications your device partakes in.. you can also try any of the other commands listed above (in lower case of course).
About: CASUAL stands for Cross-Platform ADB Scripting Unified Android Loader. It works on Linux, Windows and Mac. It is a packaging format and a scriping language written in JAVA programming language. It's goal is to make things easy.

Bash is working properly.
Heres my system. The precmd thing i have not yet figured out... it is part of the environmental variables for sh, but it is not expanded properly in bash because of the way bash handles varriables. Its working tbough.

You can fix that precmd error with 'alias precmd=' as it is being executes as a program rather than a variable in bash.

Are you on AT&T?
If you are I would not even attempt it. Otherwise it depends on which version of the Atrix2 that actually have. There are a few different ones, even just the MB865 had 3 versions and then there is the ME865.
Again if you are on AT&T and in the US, don't even think about it.
Just wait, the official ICS will be out in a few weeks. It is not all that much different from GB, I have been running the official update on my XOOM for over a month now, and it really is the same ole android that we know and love, there are are few minor tweaks, and there is some more transparent bits, but otherwise it is really not as much of a change as I had hoped for.

easiest way, a root enabled file explorer(i use root explorer), straight from your phone. all youll have to fo is extract it out of /system/app/ of the rom then copy/paste into you storage. then stick it into your current /system/app/ and reboot. by rebooting, itll install itself. then when booted, select it as your keyboard

Could do. Just right click in device manager and delete and when it prompts to delete drivers, do so. Then reinstall
