HTC Hero Rooting Problem - General Questions and Answers

I searched the forums for this issue, but wasn't able to find it. Hopefully i'm posting this to the correct area.
I have an HTC Hero, and when I first got it, I downloaded and installed Beezy's "One Click Rooter" HeroRoot010. Followed his instructions and it worked just as described - no issues.
I started having problems with the phone recently that I was unable to correct on my own and after having done a factory reset which didn't solve the problem, I took the phone to the Sprint store as a last resort.
They decided that the phone needed to be re-imaged. I left it with them for an hour and when I got the phone back it seemed fine. I re-loaded the apps that I had backed up and then decided to again use "One Click Rooter" solution to re-root the phone.
I booted into Recovery and selected "flashzip from sdcard" and then "rootme".
It ran though several steps and gave me a message saying that it was complete.
However, when I re-booted the phone, I don't have superuser authority, the Superuser icon isn't listed among my apps, and I verified that I do not have root access.
So, from my perspective, I'm doing the exact thing I did the first time I rooted the phone, only now it doesn't work.
Not sure what the problem is, but more importantly, I'd like to know what the solution is. What do I need to to in order to get this phone rooted?
Any thoughts or suggestions on how I can correct this would be appreciated.
Thanks!!

[Q] Frozen on "running psneuter"

Greetings!
I'm new to all this so I apologize if I'm posting in the wrong place. Please forgive me if I am.
I've spent the last hour searching all over these forums and the web in general for the answer to my question, but I haven't seen a resolution.
I have now tried the SuperOneClick root for my Nexus One about a dozen times, and it keeps freezing on "Running psneuter..." and never ever goes any further.
I have tried this on two different computers, I installed the USB drivers from the Android SDK, and I have USB debugging turned on. I've followed those instructions for what happens when you get in the loop, even though they don't seem to apply to this exact situation.
There have been a few other threads here that seem to be about this topic, but they simply die out with no apparent resolution.
Please help! I just don't know what I'm doing wrong.
Any ideas? I'd really like to root my phone, but I'm not sure what I'm doing wrong...
Yeah, USB debugging on is fine..
Have you tried the gingerbreak APK?

I apologize for being such a noob to all this, but I'm not familiar with what that was. All anyone talks about in the "blogosphere" is SuperOneClick.
Does the gingerbreak APK simply root the phone and not mod it? For the moment I really just need to root. Eventually I want to MOD too, but first I want to get Titanium Backup Pro on there so I can save some game data before I MOD.
Again, sorry for being such a newbie. I haven't done rooting/modding since my G1 about 18 months ago, and things have changed since that...
I have to admit, I'm surprised how many posts I've seen with the exact problem I'm having, yet nobody has responded with an answer to this issue. There are dozens of comments on the Shortfuse site from other people who are stuck at "Running psneuter," and there are no fixes or even responses, really.
There seem to be many smart people on these forums, so it's strange that this hasn't been worked out or even addressed...
Exact same problem as above.. Locks at "running psneuter"
Pulling the usb then goes to ***IF IT KEEPS LOOPING.. Etc *** and then killing ADP server..
Nexus one
2.3.4
GRJ22
From what little I've been able to get out of others here, it seems that the problem is there's no exploit for 2.3.4 yet.
However, I found a guide to rooting here: http://goo.gl/oCWvR
It requires you to have an unlocked bootloader, a process that basically wipes your phone, so be aware of that. But I'm all rooted now so it's definitely possible to do.
Good luck!
I used the exact same guide.. went to post it to a thread here but as I have low post count I cant post links..
Bootloader was already unlocked.
Heh, well, once you get to SIX posts like I have, you're clearly a big-shot poster But yeah, that's a very good guide.
In the end, though, it wasn't what did it for me. I was still having issues with it, but it got fastboot on my system and got me started. I then followed the instructions on Cyanogen's site and put a different recovery on there in order to get CM7 installed on my phone.

[Q] Inspire 4G root issues

Last night I bought my new Inspire 4G from AT&T. The phone came with Android 2.2.1 OS from the factory (Don' t know if that bit on info matters). I did my research on-line on multiple forums to find out the easiest and best way to root the phone. I went ahead with the Super One Click root program and this where the problems happened. I did the process exactly how it was stated in the video from TheUnlockr site and on the computer it said your device has been rooted and then it says to re-boot the device. I did that and the Superuser app that is supposed to be in the all apps tray was missing. Before i rebooted, the app was there, after reboot, its gone. The phone wasnt rooted, any idea of what the problem could be? If anyone can shed some light on this it would be amazing. Thanks in advance.
Drew
Check out Simple One Click from the thread linked below which will root and s-off your Inspire. Be sure to read the FAQ before running the program. There's also a video tutorial that might be useful.

[Q] root one x running 1.85?

I've attempted to root via the root script that uses att servers and it seemed successful, rebooted device twice and said complete, but when I check with root checker basic it says "device not properly rooted." any suggestions where I could be having the problem?

You should probably post this in the root thread but if I had to guess you need to go into SU and update the binaries.
In the OP of the root thread it says that if it doesn't work, set your date ahead 2 days, reboot, and try again. Probably would be a good idea to try that.
I actually did reset the date before creating a thread. In the OP it says to do that if you become stuck at the ... screen. I didn't get stuck. WHole process went through like clockwork, said complete, rebooted automatically and now, well i dunno. Phone works fine, just don't have a super user.
Try it again.
go in the dev forum and follow one step root instructions...did mine the other day. have to set date ahead like mentioned above and re install the root like 3 times before it works.
I was able to do it using the steps outlined in this post.

ATT One X 1.85 Root Successful!
To all the "try it agains", thanks! Being new to android and rooting i wasn't sure how to read what was happening, but after a lot of google-ing (with results that said try again, set date forward etc..) and really trying to read all the script, I finally got it! For the other noobs that come to this link... continue to re-run the root process exactly as the instructions say. It will take a sitting session of doing the exact same thing 3-4 times. Each time it is rooting or installing another package. It took me MUCH longer than it should have because I wasn't familiar and more importantly, wasn't paying attention to the script, you have to look at more than the instructions on web page. Unlocking bootloader is very simple as well, given that you can look at exactly whats going on in front of you! Thanks again to all the developers and posters that make it easier on a rook like me!

Delete me please - Phone on 1.85 is impossible to root/unlock?

I've been trying for the last hour to unlock the device and then root it (and vice versa since different instructions have told me different things). Nothing is clear as to if it works for 1.85 or was made for an earlier software version. Also, I have no idea if the problem might just be my computer(s). I've tried on multiple computers in my house for adb to recognize my device but it never does and nothing ever happens. I've been working for an hour and nothing has worked at all. This is easily the hardest Android device that I've ever rooted/unlocked. So, does anyone who had similar issues have a method to go about doing this that I'm apparently missing? If so, please let me know. I wouldn't have started a new thread, but I've searched everywhere and nothing is working. Thanks!

I was about to break the phone trying to do it but finally got it today man. I can walk you through if youd like. [email protected] is my google talk. Let me just tell you what I did. I uninstalled SDK Manager and reinstalled it. I reinstalled 1.85 RUU and finally followed the instructions here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1709296. Then I immediately used the one click bootloader unlock and now just installed custom recovery. Whooo!

I just got it! I had to use a really complicated method but for some reason it decided to work. I swear I had even tried that method before and it hadn't worked. But I'm good now. Rooted, unlocked, and officially ready to take on AOKP

I'm glad bro. Always good a feeling when root is gained, especially if it made you work so hard, it feels especially good

Little help with rooting Kyocera Torque E6710, please.

Yes indeed, I'm an Android n00b, but not a total n00b. Sincere apologies if this has already been addressed/solved. I've been lurking around these forums for a couple of weeks now (and read all the recommended threads and joined obviously) and haven't been able to find a solution. Kingoroot seemed to work (both pc and android), but only upgraded to 4.1 jellybean. The minimum required is 4.4 so essential apps can be installed. At this point, just knowing whether or not it's possible would be great.
My search actually started two months ago when I picked up this phone. Extensive searches have yielded results, but most have been non-functional like this site...
https://koselas.com/how-to-install-custom-rom-on-kyocera-torque-e6710/
and the ones found on the forums here just didn't work or the question was never answered. (here for example...https://forum.xda-developers.com/general/rooting-roms/kyocera-torque-e6710-unlock-t3241129).
Any information will be greatly appreciated. Thanks to all of you who even bother to read this and have a great day.

Howdy, I found the method which worked for me toward the end of this thread: https://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2204320&page=60

I don't recall if FR 1.60 or 1.90 will work, but ONLY one of those two will work. You need to reboot immediately after trying and then install SuperSU from the Play store, as Framaroot will NOT install SuperSU as it says it will.
After you install & opened SuperSU to update binary, follow my instructions I posted in the link to get hotspot working. Make sure you choose grant all w/o notification in SuperSU because it will NOT pop up giving you the option to grant root access request.
It works for sure. If you are having trouble, try a hard reset prior to rooting.
It should also be noted there is no stock ROM to flash if you screw up, so make sure you backup the files you remove from /system should you choose to uninstall bloatware.
Beyond that, it must be user error. I have rooted 7 Torques on various firmwares, including 3.000sp with no difficulty other than trying to figure out which version of FR works.

I used Framaroot version 1.9.0 on my Kyocera Torque E6710 running Android 4.1.2 (stock), Software version 3.000SP.
Framaroot version 1.9.3 didn't work for me.
LMK if this method works for you
@VinGrif...
Thank you very much for taking the time to answer this question. At the moment, I've got a large backlog of work and other projects so, it may be another week or two before there's time to do this. Once completed, I will update on the success (and which worked). Just wanted you to know that your answer was appreciated, but I'm swamped for the holidays. Thanks again!
