You've tested this on a at&t HTC one x yourself?
Sent from my HTC One X using xda premium

of course i wouldnt post if i didnt test myself like i said im working on getting it to open superuser app right now only adb shell root that i can see im just starting to mess with root

Nice. Was just about to try nachoroot.
Edit: testing now. Edit #2: confirmed working.

Good deal, KP. Was about to try it myself.

i know i hope this leads to a real bootloader unlock because i just wanna play some games on this thing and only way to play the older games would be chainfire3d if we can get a full root

Confirmed working folks. I'll write up an HTC specific one that doesn't confuse users with Prime stuff. Should be up later tonight.

cool sweet will be looking forward to seeing it

I can't find the driver for the "Android device" when I plug it with debug mode on. Do I need to install the HTC sync?
Android SDK installed and updated.
Nevermind, found HTC driver installer with HTC Sync...

Nice guys good to know.

it seems like for some reason does not wanna link between the gui layer and shell command

Well wish I could help you guys figure it out tonight but I need to go to sleep. Gotta get up early but I also got root to work and Superuser to show up in my app drawer.

wow props for finding this and for finally getting root! woohoo!

Oh snap.

I have working superuser with prompts be patient and I'll have a batch tool up for everyone tonight.

I was recently appointed Emperor of XDA. That's what the red name signifies.

I can't wait to be able to truly remove at&t bloat...
kennethpenn, the superuser not linking with gui was wrong permissions/path/busybox?

[ROOT] Easy Root, works with any Stock ROM (Including 2.31.651.7!)

Disclaimer: This is not one-click. However, it IS relatively short and straightforward, and does not require you to downgrade.
Credits: The 743C exploit, and ChainsDD for Superuser.
You need:
Android SDK installed and working.
The zip attached to this post.
If you're still on Cupcake (Android 1.5) you'll need su and Superuser from http://bit.ly/su2361cd
So, let's get down to business.
Unzip the attached file into your /android-sdk/tools/ directory, it'll make your life (and ours) easier.
Open up your command line, change to the SDK tools directory, and enter these commands:
Code:
adb push rageagainstthecage-arm5.bin /data/local/tmp
adb shell chmod 755 /data/local/tmp/rageagainstthecage-arm5.bin
Now execute the exploit:
Code:
adb shell
/data/local/tmp/rageagainstthecage-arm5.bin
Wait for the exploit to finish.
Code:
exit
If it doesn't exit cleanly, chances are it worked, just close your terminal or command prompt and open a new one.
Test that it worked:
Code:
adb kill-server
adb start-server
adb shell
If you see a $, it DID NOT work, execute the exploit again. (Step 3)
If you see a #, it WORKED, continue:
Code:
mount -o remount,rw -t yaffs2 /dev/block/mtdblock3 /system
exit
adb push su /system/xbin
adb shell chmod 4755 /system/xbin/su
adb install Superuser.apk
You may need to ctrl-c once it says Success!
Next time you 'su' in adb shell, make sure to click Allow in Superuser!
You may instead install Superuser from the Market if you wish.
Clean up the exploit:
Code:
adb shell rm /data/local/tmp/rageagainstthecage-arm5.bin
If you ever do a "Factory Reset", Superuser will go away, but you DO NOT lose root. Just reinstall Superuser.
What next? The choice is yours! Remove stock apps, get some good 'ol WiFi tethering, or flash something different!
*NOTE*
The above steps DO NOT put a recovery on your phone, though it is VERY EASY.
Once you're rooted, install ROM Manager by Koushik Dutta from the Market. Open it up, click "Flash ClockworkMod Recovery".
Select your model (Hero CDMA), and hit Allow when the Superuser Prompt shows up.
*NOTE*
The above steps DO NOT install Busybox on your phone.
Simply install Busybox from Stephen (Stericson), available on the market.
Start the app and click Allow when prompted by Superuser.
How To Uninstall
Code:
adb shell
su
mount -o remount,rw -t yaffs2 /dev/block/mtdblock3 /system
rm /system/xbin/su
rm /etc/passwd
rm /etc/group
Uninstall Superuser.apk then reboot, and you're set!

Pretty straightforward. This will probably help a lot of newer hero owners, because amazingly, people are still buying them every day!
If I get a chance to test it out, I will.
Nice job. Should be stickied so people don't run around searching through all the old rooting threads which aren't as compatible with the newer RUU versions.
Worked nicely on a refurb Hero that Sprint sent due to the dust problem.
Thanks!
Works great for me
Why am I having trouble doing this? I was able to do it on one Hero though not after many retries, but not on another.

Great! I can't live without WiFi tethering my iPad which is why I haven't done the 2.31.651.7 HTC OTA update at all.
So, I take it that this exploit will root the Official RUU_Hero_C_Sprint_2.31.651.7_signed_release.exe file then too? I ask because I really don't like to do 'update patches'. I prefer to flash and start fresh so I'm planning on flashing the RUU and then doing this root exploit. Yes, No???

SUPER!
Because when I saw this post, I tried to download the latest OTA patch, but my phone just responds 'Your phone is up to date. There are no updates available for your phone'. Strange, because I'm on 2.27.651.6 and the OTAcerts.ZIP is in tact.
Oh well, FEAR NOT, because after I get back from the store this morning, then get the TV tuned to the split screen with football on one and the baseball playoffs on the other, and get Leo Laporte's TechGuy radio show screaming...it'll be the perfect time to flash my phone to factory fresh.
Thanks.
Works perfectly on latest and "greatest" stock ROM... excellent

One reason is that when I tried to download the latest OTA update today, I could not. And another reason is before I RUU'd, I had less than 50MB of available memory, but now I have 96MB available with all of my programs loaded again. So for me, it just seems more and more that Android (or HTC Sense) is like Windows boxes since it seems I have to reload the Android OS every now and then to clean things out.

Well, if you're using Sprint's official stock .5 rom, with no tweaks applied, you gain the advantage of having an up-to-date rom with the latest bugfixes from Sprint, plus I would say my root method is less invasive and more transparent than other root methods. My personal opinion is that it feels like a root method that can't be abused easily.

UPDATE - experienced only please - perm temp root (til reboot) w/data speed increases

THanks to TEAMWIN!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
UPDATE to UPDATE- advanced users only that can understand my instructions please. I tried to make it newb friendly but this takes alot more time than I ever imagined ... (PROPS to ALL DEVS and POSTERS taking the time to share with us that which they spent hours testing!!!!)
so,
also download build.prop
place it in /data/bin
chown to root.root
chmod to 644
you only have to do this once, of course
Now reboot and run (updated and attached here at same time as the build.prop; so if you don't have the build.prop, you need to redownload daddy'stemproot.bat s it has been updated) daddy'stemproot.bat from wherever you downloaded it to.
http://dl.dropbox.com/u/7393616/build.prop
good luck!
UPDATE:
Just wanted to upload what I have been using since the original instructions are out of date.
have tested the following Windows script for 2 days without rebooting and retain full functionality on all root apps.
Instructions:
instead of doing copy/paste, once you have put fre3vo,su,busybox,and sqlite3 into /data/bin and set permisions/ownership, as per original instructions below,
if you have been using another script, just move everything to /data/bin and set permissions/ownership as per below;
and after every reboot, (or after doing the set-up for the first time users)
simply run this script:
(personally, after plugging my phone into my PC, and opening a command prompt, I always do "adb reboot"
then wait until the soft keys at bottom of screen light up (this means the phone is finishing all start up processes but for all extents and purposes the phone has booted) and then double click the file below. the command prompt will open and close itself, when closed, you are good to go until reboot)
Download and save this .bat to anywhere you want and run from anywhere you wish(mine is on my desktop for easy access):
LATEST VERSION Directly below:
http://dl.dropbox.com/u/7393616/daddy%27stemproot.bat
ORIGINAL Instructions:
Just wanted to give back so I will share how I have been getting functional su for on phone term apk and visible /data on root explorer and Superuser prompts for every root app (just because you allow at the prompt and Superuser allows an apk, doesn't mean it will alwasy work; if you open SetCpu more then once a boot it stops working. Bloatware Remover, though given root priveledges, doesn't work, I think becasue when trying to mount system, the apk uses the wrong partition in its script. etc.)
anyways
first get fre3vo, then the latest versions of su, busybox, sqlite3.
via shell from PC:
cd (directory where your 4 files are located)
push above files to /data/local/tmp (follow instructions in other threads)
get temp root via fre3vo
now with temp root do :
adb remount
adb shell mount -oremount,suid /dev/block/mmcblk0p23 /data
adb shell mkdir /data/bin
adb shell chown root.shell /data/bin
adb shell chmod 755 /data/bin
adb push (all 4 files, one at a time, to /data/bin)
adb shell chown root.shell /data/bin/su
adb shell chown root.shell /data/bin/busybox
adb shell chown root.shell /data/bin/sqlite3
adb shell chmod 6555 /data/bin/su
adb shell chmod 4555 /data/bin/busybox
adb shell chmod 755 /data/bin/sqlite3
adb shell chmod 755 /data/bin/fre3vo
now, set up is done, you don't have to do any of that again (unless you mesed up of course)
copy and paste the following lines into shell on PC and viola!
adb shell /data/bin/fre3vo
adb wait-for-device
adb remount
adb shell mount -o remount,suid /dev/block/mmcblk0p23 /data
adb shell ln -s /data/bin/su /system/xbin/su
adb shell ln -s /system/xbin/su /system/bin/su
adb shell ln -s /data/bin/busybox /system/xbin/busybox
adb shell ln -s /data/bin/sqlite /system/xbin/sqlite
adb shell mkdir /system/xbin/bb
adb shell /data/bin/busybox install /system/xbin/busybox /system/xbin/bb/
adb shell sync
So, everytime you reboot,
open a shell on your PC and copy and paste, and then you are free to live with root, until you reboot, and of course with limitations; but I personally can live with this until Fre3dom is complete.
Take your time boys(TEAMWIN) we love you!!!!
hope this helps somebody. I don't have much bandwith to check back to answer questions, but I am confident if any arise, that the community will step up as always. enjoy your root apps
Can somebody please explain to me what he means by latest version of su, busybox, and sqlite3? Apk or like files if anybody would be kind enough to post a zip file of all three?

[ROOT] 1.85 - New, working method - ACT NOW, MAY NOT LAST FOREVER!

Silly HTC. THIS EXPLOIT MAY NOT LAST FOREVER. ATT COULD KILL THIS. DO IT NOW.
Warning: If something goes wrong, whatever you do, do NOT install the update that this process finds. If you DO, you will be stuck on 2.20 with no chance for root (currently)
What you need:
HOX on ATT 1.85
su binary from http://dl.dropbox.com/u/don'tusemeimabadsubinary
EDIT: The su binary above has issues. Use this one instead: http://dl.dropbox.com/u/9060692/su
Make sure HTC sync is NOT RUNNING (down in system tray)
Make sure phone is set to "charge only" and usb debugging is enabled!
Put su in same directory as ADB. Get to adb command prompt and cd into that directory
NEW - pull sim card
NEW - do factory reset
NEW - when reset is complete, do not replace sim, do NOT connect to wifi. Go through setup, go to settings, enable USB debugging. When that's done:
adb shell rm /data/data/com.redbend.vdmc/lib/libvd*
adb reboot
After the device reboots:
adb shell ln -s /data/local.prop /data/data/com.redbend.vdmc/lib/libvdmscomo.so
(If you get file doesn't exist after the FIRST command don't worry - they may not be there)
Now, on the phone, go to settings and check for software update. It will tell you you need to connect to network. Now, replace the SIM OR connect to wifi. Have it check for software update again. When it's done, do NOT click "yes" or "ok" on the phone. Simply:
adb shell ls -l /data/local.prop
IF AND ONLY IF you get "file not exists" or anything like that then set your phone's date 2 days ahead and reboot the phone and start over. If you get file info, you're golden. Proceed....
adb shell "echo 'ro.kernel.qemu=1' > /data/local.prop"
Now it's time to reboot
adb reboot
After phones reboots
adb remount
adb push su /system/xbin/su
adb shell chown 0.0 /system/xbin/su
adb shell chmod 06755 /system/xbin/su
adb shell rm /data/local.prop
adb reboot
Congrats, you have root. Install supersu and busybox installer from the market (or Play store).

I traded my Samsung galaxy s3 for this and the element tablet and I don't regret it
I moved up from a Samsung Infuse and yes, compared to the other devices I tried out - Galaxy III and HTC OneX - I am quite impressed with the Flex. The hardware is excellent; we just need root and perhaps a custom kernel and rom to play with.

no unfourtunatly ive recived no reply from the guys over at the burst forums there is however a guy over at the forums at android forums who says hell take a crack at it
OK GUYS SO I got this from a pm with DAVEPMR all credit is due to him I was not able to get past the adb shell command as my 64 bit windows 8 did not recognize my device and there are no drivers for our device for PC but if anyone here wants to try we have an untested GUIDE
Not sure we can help much, rooting kind of requires a phone to test on.
you will need su and Superuser http://www.4shared.com/file/77Hm6isK/su_online.html Superuser.apk is at http://www.4shared.com/android/o6FouNYk/Superuser.html
but you might try
adb shell
rm -r /data/local/tmp
ln -s /data/ /data/local/tmp
exit
adb reboot
adb shell
echo 'ro.kernel.qemu=1' > /data/local.prop
exit
adb reboot
adb shell mount -o remount,rw /system
adb push su /system/xbin/su
adb shell
chown 0.0 /system/xbin/su
chmod 06755 /system/xbin/su
rm /data/local.prop
exit
adb reboot
adb install Superuser.apk

ive tried z4 not super one click heres the issue with super 1 click it was designed to root gingerbread just like z4 root none of those one clicks have been tested on a device with ICS on it thats the issue when it comes to that ! and yes patiently waiting heres an edit ive tried adb shell on the flex on a windows 7 32 bit! and still no luck i cannot get the dang thing to recognize our devices i tried downloading and installing pantechs only drivers for the burst and still no luck! im at a loss when it comes to this how can we get our device to be recognzied by adb shell?
Maybe we need to start bugging Pantech for drivers... I don't think the drivers for the Burst would work anyways. The Flex uses a Qualcomm MSM8960 and the Burst uses the Snapdragon S3 APQ8060. I know they're both Arm7 processors but my guess is that the rest of the hardware in the phones is different too.

Just requested drivers from Pantech lets see if that does any good.

Well if I was a betting man I would put my money on you... OEM's tend not to like to do things they dont have to.

[ROOT] LG Optimus Logic (LGL35G)

Update: Friday November 2nd 2012
Fixed a bad upload of the su file, must of become corrupt sorry.
Silly permission bug again, but w/e. LG should know better, from what I am told this is a recently released device. This is a long standing known issue. Lg get your sh*t together.
Directions:
unzip su.zip into the current path (directory) you are in.
adb shell
(while in adb shell)
rm /data/local/tmp/profile_calib_m
ln -s /data/local.prop /data/local/tmp/profile_calib_m
exit
adb reboot
adb wait-for-device shell
(once in the adb shell again)
echo 'ro.kernel.qemu=1' > /data/local.prop
rm /data/local/tmp/profile_calib_m
exit
adb reboot
adb wait-for-device remount
adb push su /system/xbin/su
adb shell chown 0.0 /system/xbin/su
adb shell chmod 6755 /system/xbin/su
adb shell rm /data/local.prop
adb reboot
Once rebooted install superuser from the market:
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.noshufou.android.su
As usual thanks for all your work for this GREAT community!!! :good:
Thanks for letting me watch you work & getting root for my wife's phone.
Edit: DroidHost of Androidarea51.com has made a OneClick for this phone using Jcase's root. it also installs a recovery & Superuser all at the same time.

No problem.
You actually left out a step. In order to push su to the phone you have to adb remount -o rw. Otherwise it is a read-only filesystem and it cannot be pushed to the phone. Most people would probably get this, but the novices who end up with bricked phones will be angry.
Great work!

Actually no, you are incorrect.
adb remount without the additional parameters is correct, and not possible of bricking a phone with adb remount. No novice would be angry, because there is not possible brick from this guide, as long as it is followed.
I got the LG for my daughter (13 going on 30), and now it works fine. Thanks jcase.
Did not unlock my lgl35g
Yes I am a Noob... nobody likes me
I have exhausted every resource that I could find on this phone. I thought that this post was the answer to my problem, however it did not seem to help at all. Everything seemed as if it was working fine as I went step by step through the process. However, I rebooted my phone and there is no difference then when I started. The "su.zip" file enclosed in this post was not able to extract into the directory of my ADB client. It kept saying root already existed, but I was unable to see it in windows explorer? Is this "su.zip" a modified version of a pre-existing file in the SDK kit? I really need to unlock this phone so that I can clean up the junk. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Did you push the su binary file or the whole folder? If you pushed the whole folder you will have to remove the directory & start over.
how to run root
Sorry for sounding like a noob, but I am...when it comes to LG. im trying to root my homies LG optimus logic but im not sure where to run the command from. if some one could help me out on to where the zip should actullay be placed and unziped to that would be a big help, thanks. and if there is a thread already for this please hook up a link.
thanks
thanks mate for this
i appreciate your time.
Anyone know of a rooted ROM
I have looked all over, but it doesn't look like a dev has created a ROM for this device. Has anyone come across one? If I knew programming I would give it a shot, but it's a mystery to me. I know that CyanogenMod 9 for the L3 (e400) works, but there is a problem with the radios, hence no cellular, wifi, or bluetooth.

This guy had some success with CM9, but no radio. Anyone know how to extract the radio? I've never built a rom, but this is tempting.
