App's Downloading on their own - AT&T, Rogers HTC One X, Telstra One XL

I have quite a few apps associated with my Google account, so I selected only the ones I wanted to use on the One X. Then all of a sudden I noticed all my apps had downloaded to the phone. So I uninstalled the ones I didn't want then while I was doing this they started re downloading on their own.
I don't see any menu setting to prevent auto downloads, only auto updates, which is un checked.
Any clue why the apps are downloading on their own??

Sync
This has happened to me on just about every phone I have had. (even on custom ROMs) This leads me to believe that it is part of the data sync through your google acct. Of course, I could be wrong.

Did you have you apps and data backed up through Google from a previous Android phone?
Check under: settings -> privacy -> backup/restore

Yes by default on some android versions your apps, wifi settings, wallpaper, etc are kept on servers for backup. Maybe since 2.3 i think? I never used it and always disabled it on any custom roms since i use titanium backup. for non rooted devices it's nice though.

Could be apps that are linked from other apps. Like soundhound is in the music app. If you uninstall it, it will reinstall. As does tunedin radio

[Q] How to backup/sync apps my Inspire?

If I am moving to another android phone how do I back up/transfer all the data and apps? One of my friend has Atrix and we both were planning to switch phones for some time to see which one we really like.
Is there something like iTunes where I can sync up all my apps? I am not much worried about data (songs, photos etc.,) but I bought a bunch of apps which I would like to transfer them from phone to phone.
Any help is appreciated.

Thank you for the reply. Can you please help me find where "google sync" is located on my phone? When I go to Menu->Accounts&Sync->Google, there is only option to sync my books, contacts, gmail and calender.
I am very new to Android so sorry if I sound naive.

If I remember correctly as long as you log into your google account it should sync all your apps that you've bought or downloaded from Market. I could be wrong, if so some one please correct me.

When you use a google account for the Market, it will remember apps you have downloaded. It does not however save settings, preferences, cached data, etc.
I ran Android on a Fuze for over a year before upgrading to the Inspire. When Google released web access to the Market, it allowed me to track which apps are installed to which phones. When I switched phones, i jumped on my PC and clicked all the apps from the Fuze I wanted on the Inspire and Google automatically downloaded them to the phone.
If you want the apps and data backed up, you may need a product like Titanium back-up. I used it on the Fuze but since that was rooted, not sure if it will work on the Inspire with stock ROM.
or, if you're taking your sd card with you, you can use an app like app installer by gregory house to back up all of your apk files. or titanium backup does the same thing.
the market always screws me somehow. I purchased apps when I first got it only to find that it didn't remember me buying when I rooted and put on a custom rom. Even using titanium, 99% of my apps restore but I have ran into a few that won't due to licensing. When I go to the market, no record of it at all. I missed how itunes and cydia remembered everything you had. Don't miss the iphone though! lol
I use titanium backup. Works quite well.

Auto sync apps??

So I reflashed my phone + full wipe. I synced my phone with my Google accounts, HTC sense, and Facebook. While it was syncing, it started to auto download the apps I had before.
I was wondering how it did that? Because other times I tried it, that never hhappened. Was it from something else? It made it so much easier for me to get my apps back I had before. I don't like searching.
So can anyone confirm what backed up my apps??
Thanks!

When you signed up with the google account, it ask you if you want your phone backed up by google. All you had to do was not uncheck the check box to agree.
FYI, if you flash ROM's a lot it doesn't always restore your apps, so use screenshot to take a picture and store them prior to flashing to remember what you had so your not searching in the future.

How can I restore restored apps with market links

I've always just let my apps automatically restore but I would like to use my backup of apps with my backup pro. But once they restore they don't show downloaded in the market. How can I change this?

Go to settings > applications > manage applications > all - find market and google framework services. Clear cache/data for both...reboot. Open market.
Wait a few mins and all the apps will show up in the downloaded section.
This was happening to me yesterday.
I went to Manage Applications->All->Market, and then clicked "Force Stop", and then "Clear Data". I reloaded the market, accepted the terms, and everything showed up again.
If just clearing the data doesn't work, force stop it and then clear. That worked for me.
okay guys that worked, thanks. I have another question though now, so because I didn't want my apps to automatically install, I used my alternate gmail account(the one my paid apps aren't associated with) to first log in with the market so I could download My Backup Pro. After restoring my apps, I logged into my original main gmail(the one the paid apps are associated with) and my paid apps still haven't showed up. What can I do to make them show up?

Hard reset / wipe and use the right Gmail first.
Sorry but the first one you put on is the one and only Gmail linked to the market. You must use that one if you want your paid apps.
Also: I know you use my backup.. but titanium backup has a "market doctor" feature that finds missing market links and lets you re-establish them.

[Q] [Startup Management] Disabling Native Android Apps At StartUp

I would Like to disable Play Store, Maps, Facebook, Hotmail, What's new and Some other 3rd party application from starting up with the phone. I would like to kepp these applications and only disable it's startup during booting. Anyone have a Solution.
I also dont want to delete or freeze them just to exclude apps from starting on boot.Help would be appreciated.
Guys Titanium Backup and ROM Toolbox are a few that does the job. Try them

Some update guys?!
Have you tried those applications? Did you solved your problems?
I tried Titanium and only did freeze app, not exclude from booting, didn't try ROM toolbox will do.
Did try to disable using System tuning pro. It disables the app completely. In a way I could stop LG's crappy App's.
I use Super Manager,it also has a function of disabling startup items.
There are many apps can do this . If you want the best app it's called "startup manager"
Or you can use "system tuner"

I use Gemini App Manager, I am unable to change all "Auto Run" options disabling any app I want from auto running for whatever reason, including but not limited to the device booting. I have changed all non essential apps to only run when I launch them. I use gemini for a lot of things, including copying apps from phone to SD and/or back to phone, uninstalling, etc. Its a great little app.
I think this seems like the right thread for me... I'm running ICS 4.0.3 on a factory rooted 7" Craig CMP741e tablet (CVS special, starter tab, AnTuTu rating about 4300). This is my first tablet, so I'm learning as I go. I want to try to speed up boot time. I'm running ES Task Manager. I've already disabled all non-system files from starting on boot, I just want to know which of these system files I can safely disable from the startup list without hurting anything:
Aldiko Premium
Calendar Storage
Contacts
Download Manager
Email
Exchange Services
GetJar
GMail
Google Contacts Sync
" " Partner Setup
" " Services Framework
Maps
Media Storage
MusicFX
YouTube
Those are all the ones that ES is suggesting I keep enabled. I don't want to actually remove any of them from my tablet, I just don't want them wasting any memory and causing lag until I actually choose to use them. It's a beginner tablet, just trying to squeeze as much performance out of it as possible.

[Q] New phone, first time on Android - no Apps show up in my Apps?

I just set my Mother-in-law up with a new Nexus 5 updated to Lollipop. She had an existing gmail account that we used to sign in at the phone setup. However, when opening the Play Store, I notice that none of the preinstalled apps (Gmail, Calendar, etc) show up in My Apps. However, searching for these apps in the Play Store show they're installed and give the option to Update them. Do I really need to do this one by one for each app for an account that has never used Android? After updating an app, then it shows up in my apps, but it seems like a giant waste of time to have to sync them with my account.
That really doesn't seem right.. I'd try a simple factory reset first and see if it works then.
Actually confirmed this with another account too (never had signed into Android before). Guess maybe the easier thing to do might be do it through the web link to Play store.
