Hi,
Just received a brand new Xoom like mine for dad. It is however not powering up. Tried the usual power and volume up but still no joy. The charger light glows white but nothing happens when I try to power it up. I tried adb devices (desperate, I know) but no avail.
Can anyone please shed some light?
Thanks,
Mark

Today I noticed, while having my phone in a pocket, that it vibrates. Thought it was an sms or something but after I pulled it out, the screen was black. And kept on restarting itself in like 10 second intervals. Then the screen got stuck black with backlight on. Now I cannot power it on. It does it by itself randomly. No way to enter bootloader. After pressing hard buttons I randomly get a vibration feedback. Tried 2 different batteries. If I plug the charger in, no light comes up. After maybe 20 minutes on charger it gets warm (not where the battery is but above where the radio is).
Anyone ever seen this before? Any ideas would be more than greatly appreciated!!!!

Try this,
Turn off phone, push volume down and plug in the usb cable to your computer, don't turn it on, if the hardware is ok, tricolor should appear.

Thanx for the tip. My phone, however, resurrected by itself in the middle of night after it did hard reset by itself. So I used raphdiag and reloaded new rom. Hope to never see this again!
I was shooting a video with my xoom and it powered off to a black screen. The led pops up showing that it is charging and it shows green when it is fully charged but will not register any button presses. I though about maybe flashing the stock sbf but i cant get my pc to recognize the xoom at all even after downloading and installing the drivers. I made created a new thread because i couldn't find anything about a xoom that wouldn't respond to the vol up/power combo. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Sorry to hear about your Xoom. Have you contacted Motorola yet?

The same thing happened to me, I never found a solution. I exchanged it for a new one at Costco. Good luck.
Haven't contacted Moto yet. Has anyone tried disecting the xoom? Is it tough? looks like a couple screws in the bottom and bada boom bada bing right? lol
Same thing happened to me last night...I powered down the xoom and plugged it in over night, this morning I had a green light but it wouldn't turn on. I tried the Vol up key and power trick, I read someone else that someone was able to get Vol down and power to work as well....neither worked for me.
I am probably going to contact Motorola this morning when I have time unless someone else has a suggestion that works before that.

So did you have any custom mods on your Xoom or was it completely stock? Just to know if stock one can be bricked in that way

What did you do to brick it?
I was updating the ICS 4.04 and when the my xoom reboot it wont turn on anymore, anyone has a solution to this problem?
hi everyone, I have a challenge for you...
My MZ604 Wifi Xoom is completely unresponsive. No boot logo, no screen nothing.
A few months ago I flashed a US stock to get a hold of the ISC update. it went off without a hitch and I was very happy with it.
A few weeks ago I picked it up and it was black and not booting, even to the logo. Nothing.
The only things that light up are the white charging light when it is plugged in.
When I plug in the USB (Win7x64) it registers as a Motorola Flash Interface and charges through my computer- but not all the time.
I have tried many combinations of button pressing and holding, and the only indications I get that it is working underneath the black screen are the white front light going on and off and the device registering in device manager.
Oh, and it makes the battery low sound when low on battery, which i hope is a good sign.
Adb fastboot does not recognise the device no matter that I do.
Has anyone ever come back from this???
Desperate,

This might be a case for the Motorola Programming cable from the Black Hat Team (google it). You can also make one. There are instructions somewhere in one of these threads.
Have you tried to take the cover off and remove the batter(ies)? Look for the thread with instructions for that. You will need a Torx screwdriver (#5?).
I'll bet you can bring it back.
thanks okantomi,
I just ordered a torx set, hopefully a battery disconnect will work.
Very hard to figure this out, every single search i made for 'bricked xoom' came up with silly buggers with frozen boot screens. Not a real brick at all...
If you don't hear from me again, assume it's fixed!
Thank again
Good luck!
We havent hear from you since so hopefully you fixed your xoom!
Can you share your experience for whoever has simmilar issue....
Thanks
&
Good Luck
Hi,
I'm having an issue with my Xoom Wifi (US, original). It's running Jelly Bean and is unrooted, locked, and stock everything. It won't turn on.
Today, I was charging the Xoom, it was on and at 15% battery life. Later, when it around 45-50%, I unplugged it and let it be on standby. Later, I returned to it and it was unresponsive with a blank screen. I don't know if it was on at that point. However, at one point I noticed that the screen was backlit (but still showing black), and holding down the power and one or both of the volume keys for a few seconds turned the Xoom off. Since that point, I have been unable to turn it on.
Status of Xoom:
- Charging appears to work. White LED showed when charging, then later changed to green.
I've tried the following:
- Waiting for Xoom to charge (LED to turn green), and holding down the power button for a few seconds; holding down the power button for a minute, holding down the power and volume up for a few seconds as well as up to a minute, holding down power, and volume down for up to a minute, as well as all three buttons. I've tried these steps while plugged into AC as well as not plugged in.
- I've also removed the battery for at least a few minutes before reinstalling it and tried the above steps for trying to turn it on.
ETA: - Also tried removing microSD card.
It still doesn't seem to be turning on.
What are my options?
Thanks.
Can you access the device via fastboot or adb?

I'm not sure if my fastboot is set up correctly. I'm having difficulty using it on my Mac running Mountain Lion (getting (ERROR: could not get pipe properties), when I'm doing the ./fastboot devices command)
However, when I run "./adb devices", I can see my Galaxy Nexus as an attached device when it's connected, but not my Xoom. I've tried holding down all combinations of power+Volume before running the command.
ETA:
Okay, got fastboot working by rebooting my phone into bootloader mode. I can get my Galaxy Nexus to show up when doing ./fastboot devices, but I can't get my Xoom to show up. Note that the only output from my Xoom right now appears to be the charging LED light that is usually white, but turns green after a few minutes being plugged in.
Am no expert but if your charging it with a white light then a few minutes later it goes green the problem might be your battery has died completely (just a thought)

I don't think this is the case. Green indicates that the battery is fully charged. When it died, the battery was about 50% full. It took a few hours for the battery to charge that the light to turn green. Now when I plug it in, it is initially white and then turns Green after a few minutes, indicating that the computer thinks that the battery is full.
Does anyone have ideas? Would getting/creating the special diagnostic motorola USB cable be of any help? How can I diagnose what's wrong? I don't mind disassembling the device if it would help.
I usually have limited access to parts, but I will be visiting the US in a few days so if you have ideas for useful parts that I can order that might help let me know.
Thanks.

Do you got any response when you connect the XOOM to your MAC with standard USB cable?
Can you try it on Windows PC?
If nothing response, try to connect with "factory cable".
P.S. I bricked my XOOM, it's only recognized as APX device. After I installed drivers, It could be recognized as "NVIDIA USB Boot-recovery driver for Mobile devices". And then nvflash command could be executed and got some response. I hope I could got progress, but I still stuck here. All indicated that I need original "bootloader.bin", and BCT and config files. I also try to send it to different MOTO local service centers, they told me that maybe I damaged the hardware(?), if I want to repair it, the motherboard must be replaced. Anyway, hopes this information could finds you. And if you solved your problem, please just let me know how. Thanks in advance.
Well, my Xoom did the same thing as described in the OP last night. Power button was unresponsive but could charge. Googled around and found that many people fixed this issue by pressing volume up + power for a few seconds. Tried it and worked. Xoom booted up, and I gave a sigh of relief.
I feel you pain
I'm having the exact same problem that Lyrrad0 initially reported.I couldn't describe it any differently. It's great to see someone else is experiencing the same thing. A lot of posts that i see mention doing the power button + Volume up button fix, but this doesn't work for me and sounds like it doesn't work for Lyrrad0 either.
Like Lyrrad0 i also think the battery is fully charged. I saw a few chipsets that i could buy but it would be annoying if it didn't fix the problem still and i had wasted my cash.
Just wondering if Lyrrad0 tried to replace any parts? If so did they fix your problems?
Hey guys, i was trying to post this as a reply to this thread but i wasn't allowed: https://forum.xda-developers.com/sh...6IKs71WjSjTXIwm-IHR22AOFfOB0nVMc86EX1986seHCY
So, this morning i woke up to finnd my phone (wich had been charging the whole night) not turning on and with a white led blinking (short flashes, not long ones as in notifications). I don't know if it was just the screen or if it was off, but it wasn't warm or anything. Anyway, i tried turning it on, connect to my pc, switched charger, and nothing happened, i held power + Vol Down, nothing happened. Also tried Vol Up, no results. But when i held longer, it vibrated 3 times (sign of hard reset) and the LED stopped blinking, and i kind of died. I'm assuming its a soft brick.
But i don't know what caused the first symptoms, or what the blinking white LED means. I'm also not sure if i should follow the procedures on the link i mentioned, knowing that i made the hard reset after it was blinking. Im hoping all i have to do is wait for the battery to drain, and it finally turns on asking to charge.
Any thoughts of what i should do? I don't know if i keep it off any power source and wait, or try to recover it as the link suggests.
Thanks! I hope you guys can help me out.
