Removing CarrierIQ - HTC One S

I am not responsible for any damage caused to your phone....
Make and verify your back ups people!
Your phone needs to be rooted for this to work.
Use Root Explorer and navigate to these locations:
/system/app
IQ-tmobile-release-signed.apk
IQ-tmobile-release-signed.odex
IQToggle.signed.apk
IQToggle.signed.odex
/data/data
com.carrieriq.tmobile
com.carrieriq.tmobile.IQToggle
Delete all .apk's and .odex files in the /system/app and both of the directories in /data/data, reboot phone and Presto! No more CarrierIQ.
If I helped please click the "Thanks" button.

Can you please post up the .apk file it would be much apreciated. I have a desire hd and this app has been removed since updting to gingerbread. Im on sense 2.1 so fingers crossed it should install.
Here's a signed flashable zip containing SearchAnywhere.apk and SearchAnywhereWidget.apk.
But it's not working!
First I tried to just install the apk. They won't install.
Then I created this zip file and flashed it. But the apk files did not transfer to \system\app
Probably somebody else has an idea how to go forward.
Well, here's another try. This time it really flashes the apk files to /system/app.
It also appears in the app drawer. But it does not run propperly. Always force closed.
still not working.
Has anyone had any luck with this. It won't install for me.

I have uninstalled it already and haven't seen any changes in performance or behavior. I'll post tomorrow night after a full day's use to give a report. But in all honesty I don't think its going to show any problems. You can always use Titanium Backup to back up the apk before you uninstall it that way if you do have problems, you can reinstall it.
EDIT: its labeled in TB as :
HTC Loggers 3.1.gingerbread.GRJ22.mecha
EDIT 2: This issue is on Sense ROMs only. If you are running an AOSP ROM, you are in the clear.
EDIT 3: If your still running Froyo Sense (not sure why you are) it may or may not be in there. Some people have stated that this is a Sense based Gingerbread issue only but since I can't confirm it yet, don't take my word.

Alternatively, you can just re-name HTCloggers.apk - to HTCloggers.bak, .xxx, .del, etc. with root or es explorer.

I understand that currently there is no fix without root or a patch. I was wondering if it would be possible to develop a firewall for the phone that would block it
Will freezing the apk work just as well or do we have to uninstall it completely?

No, because it would involve needing things that require root. Unless you have some sort of magical way to mess with iptables and install it on your phone or edit the host file without having write access to the system.
I am running a mostly stock MR2 (MR2 rooted and deodexed but NOT debloated) ROM and couldn't find it. The POC app also says connection refused. I checked with both es file explorer and titanium backup but did not find anything either.

You beat me to it.... iptables requires support to be compiled into the kernel. Without root, you ain't touching the kernel nor replacing it with one that has the necessary support.

Might need Sense framework. Try pushing to system/app just in case. There is a price to using a non-Sense ROM, even for the Sense haters (and I am one). I'm stuck just to keep the Sense Camera app...

If you can't get it to work, Energy ROM has movie editor in it.
If anything pull the app from Energy ROM, put it in the place it in the trickdroid zip system/app and flash it again.

Download any Sense ROM that has those apps you want. Open with your favorite Zip program (7zip, winrar, or even root file explorer on your phone), navigate through the folders to the apk you want, copy/paste or just move it onto your storage card. Install app like any other sideloaded app.
The only possibly issue you might have would be with the libs, but the more experienced guys can help you resolve that, if it even becomes an issue.

I've already gone in with root Explorer and deleted all the Verizon apps except for Visual voice mail, all the Amazon apps and some miscellaneous HTC apps. Haven't had a problem. Titanium backup works to uninstall them too but I'm not sure if it gets the .odex files too so I just use root exploder.

Yeah I would assume so. That's just one less application that I'm not using that doesn't have to be loaded and stored in the davlik cache on boot. Odex files are just code from an apk that is loaded in the davlik cache on boot up for loading that app quicker, so the DVM just has one less app to load. If I don't plan on every using that app again than I don't see why it would hurt.

I also use rom toolbox, but I have pro version. Very well worth it! All system apps are in the sys/app folder and can be removed from there if not using rom toolbox. I usually delete all data from the app first though and then remove. Just make a backup first

I deleted the updater.apk and I don't have 'download setting plugin' ? Unless I'm looking in the wrong spot. Everything keeps coming back. I care less about the bloatware but really just want the old version of google maps back. 6.14 is infinitely better than 7.x !
I've tried deleting the cache and I even disabled 'auto update' in the play store first. Then deleted maps 7 and installed 6.14. It works fine until I restart the phone, and then it automatically updates without any intervention for me before I can do anything. It's like it installs 7.x during boot up.
