just saw this in the cdma thread hadnt seen it here before
if you disable the special dialer you save almost 10 megs of memory im only at 29 pct usage right now its awesome
It's so lame that the HTC dialer skin causes so many problems, because it looks so nice
it does look nice but i just found out that wen i disabled the skin it makes the bluetooth on / off notifier dissapear from the title bar. damn
Has anyone noticed also the buttons on the side for in call volume don't work after you disable the HTC dialer? They only change the volume of the system/ring not the in call volume...
On second thought, I decided against this hack.
It also affects the incoming call screen. Much harder to answer a call with the screen that comes up with the HTC dialer.
While that many megs is a great improvement the dialer looks too beautiful especially with the sliding features that people are working on

what are these you speak of
Why do you care to save 10MB? I have 100MB free after a soft reset without changing anything. What difference does it make if I have 100MB or 110MB? The processor will get totally bogged down before I can even open enough things to fill the 100MB.
only 100 free?? i have like 130 or so what rom are you on
I'm trying this program out to get my phone profiles to change automatically (silent for work and wifi/bluetooth on at other times like when plugged in etc).
I have set up details for auto switching but the behaviour now of the profiles is a bit weird at times.
When I have an automatic switchover for instance from Home to Work (silent) profiles, I'm not certain if it's actually doing it or not.
What happened this morning for instance was that I got to work at 8.40 and checked my phone and it still had the speaker icon showing normally in the taskbar as if it was still set to 100% volume, BUT, when I pressed the volume rocker to set it silent, I found the volume bar was already fully down, suggesting it had actually changed the volume setting as required and presumably switched the profile, but simply not refreshed the speaker icon on the taskbar to show that the phone was now set as silent or vibrate.
Hope that makes sense!
On top of that, whilst it seems to work well to switch both wifi and bluetooth on when required, it doesn't always seem to turn wifi off again when it should. I'm fairly sure it's not just a case of profile settings causing it just to remain on because the profile it's gone back to still uses wifi after an auto switch.
Would love to keep this program but only if I have total confidence that my phone is not going to ring when it's meant to be silent etc, and it's a little misleading at the moment with the impression it sometimes gives about whether the phone is actually silent or not.
Anyone else have these issues, and any way I can correct this?
Cheers!
if you've gone in to setting-->profiles --> and click option --> automatic switching
then you are doing it right
also realise there are option for switch on/off bluetooth/wifi/radio etc when setting up your profile
also if you can't see the PhoneAlarm taskbar on your front screen, then that would mean its not install properly and therefore not working, hope that helps
have you been to the forums @ pocketmax.net? there is tons of information there, and plenty of help for questions such as this.
I have been using phoneAlarm with no problems whatsoever for years now...
oh, and by the way, your signature does not reflect what ROM you are using -- I have noticed on the more recent Energy ROMs of mine that the taskbar is sometimes "slow" to refresh. for instance, when unplugging usb/charger the battery icon does not change from the 'lightning bolt' back to percentage until a minute or so... (this could possibly be related to volume icon as well)
Thanks for the replies
No I've not looked on their forum I must admit. Will be worth checking out though.
I'm very interested in the comments about this slow refresh with the taskbar though as I think that must be the problem.
I had noticed the same thing with the charging 'lightning'' icon but had forgotten until you mentioned it.
I've added my rom info in signature - thanks for pointing that out.
Is there any cure for this behaviour with the taskbar other than swapping Roms?
I'm quite happy really with this one, unless someone wants to recommend a rom that's radically better and doesn't have this particular issue?
Plus the fact I could potentially go through loads of other roms til this is solved, or just be trading this bug for another one.
Would love to solve it though. This app is growing on me but if I have to double check each time it swaps a profile to make sure it's done it then it defeats the purpose of having it.
I realise at least that this may not actually be the fault of the app itself though.
I've had mine for nearly a week. I'm pretty sure I'm going to keep it and finally ditch the Grand Old HD2. I've managed to get many of my questions about this phone answered here over the last few days, but here are some I'm not convinced I know the answer to...perhaps someone can help:
- Can I adjust the number of rows/columns on Sense screens? I'd been using HyperDroid CM7 on my HD2 for a while, and seeing, like, 4 icons on the entire Sensation screen is corny/cartoony. I'd like to get more stuff squashed onto each screen.
- Can I add/remove Sense home screens? There are 7. I'd like to change that.
- Can I change or add more buttons to bottom or home screen? I see, from left to right, the apps, phone, and personalize buttons. I'd love to dump the personalize button, shrink the phone button, and add several more.
- I'm pretty sure many of the things I want to do are not possible with just an out of the box T-Mo Sensation and HTC Sense...so, are there apps that lets me do any of these things?
- Can I adjust when backlight goes off? I seem to be able to only adjust the amount of time the entire screen stays on.
- Auto-brightness is wacky. I'll just be sitting somewhere, in what seems like perfectly level/stable lighting conditions, and the screen just arbitrarily dims and brightens every few seconds.
- How do I get rid of that irritating page-by-page scrolling of apps list? I'd like one long, smooth-scrolling list. And is there a way to have a favorite apps list, other than placing them on the home screens?
- How do I turn off the dial/key press sounds when I'm dialing a phone number?
- I get a lot of static when I use my BT headset with the T-Mobile silicone case on the phone. If I take the phone out of the case, the call is much clearer. Any way to otherwise compensate (so I don't have to take the case off all the time)?
Thanks.
The quick answer to every question right now is no. The slightly longer answer is yes, but you will need to install a custom launcher: Launcher Pro or ADW come to mind first. They won't get rid of Sense and will actually use up more memory, but what you want will be accomplished. The really long answer is no, but soon. Most of what you want to change are things built into the HTC Rom. S-Off is supposedly coming soon. The great devs of the forum are hard at work. Once they do that, the bootloader will be unlocked, the cooks will do what they do, and we will begin to see custom Roms. Then you will have your removed bloatware, customizable anything, different launchers, stock-Sense lite-Sense full-CM7-MIUI-or anything else you can think of Roms.
The day is coming. We will have a true superphone any day now.
Best wishes.

for the backlight off thing go to settings->brightness and uncheck the box next to automatic brightness and adjust the slider to your liking
To take off the sound while dialing go to settings->sound and uncheck the box that says Audible touch tones
hope it helps
Thanks for the sound setting info. I know about the automatic brightness setting. Turning off doesn't fix the fact that automatic brightness doesn't seem to work.
Any idea how to, when using the Mail application, to move to Next or Previous messages? No swiping motion I'm trying is working, and the best I can find is Settings and then the arrow keys. It'd be much easier if there was a button or swipe right on the message screen itself.

Actually, I believe the internal portion of the antenna is different too. The Tmo Sensation have 4 internal contacts areas for antenna and the international unlock one has 3. People were claiming that to be the problem with the death grip reception issue. Idk if the newer unlocked versions have changed yet. Correct me if I'm wrong.

I have moved across from the HD2 also and i find it irritating that i cant set both backlight off and power off as separate items.
Had the HD2 set that the backlight went off quite quickly to save juice, but it was set to not power down for one minute after that so just a quick screen press would bring it back up.
the Sensation powers down exactly 8 seconds after the screen dims and there is no setting to change that period !!

I don't have to reboot too often, but when I do, I usually get a "Set current time" pop-up message stating "Unable to detect your current time zone. Tab below to select a city." Then is has a menu with various time zones in it. I select Eastern Time, and click Done. But why does this keep coming up?
All the threads I see here and elsewhere on the internet (yes, I cheat on XDA) seem to assume the network is not providing the time information, so we need to uncheck the automatic time update setting. But why should I have to uncheck this? And how will that impact me when I go to another time zone?
Thanks.

you can somehow:
i used the "more icons widget" it lets you add 4 icons in a place of usually one.
So the 3x1 icons would consist of 11 small icons (+ 1 settings button) available from 1x2 to 1x4 and inverse. Works great on this screen
https://market.android.com/details?id=com.reeyees.moreiconswidget
it costs a bit, but is worth it!
Major rewrite - no longer uses the earpiece speaker
With the new app, you get 100 different volume levels from silent to full volume.
Works on Media/Alarm/Ringer & Notification/System (in-call excluded)
Still has the automatic overlay that appears when changing volume (ROM dependent) but also has a regular volume control app
More customisation
For those people using ROMs that don't support the automatic popup, there is a secondary launcher icon that shows the media volume dial for a few seconds.
48 Hour Trial: https://market.android.com/details?id=opotech.finevolumev2
Unlocker: https://market.android.com/details?id=opotech.finevolume.unlocker
Uninstall (or at least disable) the old app before using the new one
The old version of the app is now deprecated, but the unlocker will work with the old and new version. (you get both versions of the app if you buy the unlocker)
Deprecated
Fine Volume Control
I've just released a new app that enhances the standard media volume dialog by adding 2 functions:
A fancy volume dial (complete with glow) to use instead of repeatedly pressing the volume buttons
A finer volume setting that effectively lets you go below 1 bar of volume by redirecting sound to the earpiece speaker when you drop below a threshold marked on the slider.
Free version: https://market.android.com/details?id=opotech.finevolume
Full version: https://market.android.com/details?id=opotech.finevolume.unlocker includes more colours, dialog styles, adjustable dial sensitivity, size, toggle button pulse and removal of ads.
Let me know what you think.
Thanks!
Looks nice, but force closes on MIUI, but maybe that's to be expected.
Great Idea. I just tried the free version and am having a couple problems. There is no visual indication when turning the "dial". Some animation with min and max gauges would be nice.
My volume bar now doesn't increase or decrease when changing volume. No matter what the volume bar is always 3/4 full. I can see the yellow indicator line but it means nothing when the bar doesn't move.
This is a great idea. I definitely like being able to control the volume without pressing the hardware buttons, because mine are a bit worn down.
Unfortunately, your app doesn't work on my HTC Desire (using Gingerbread Sense). When I press either volume button, the normal Volume pop-up appears. When you update the app, I will try it again
Good luck and keep up the great work!

What version of android is MIUI? I've had a report of FC on a 3.2 device and it needs fixing for that. Unless MIUI has a different volume dialog layout, it should work. Can you post here or submit a stacktrace? Thanks!

I've coded a fix for that crash, thanks! The dialog won't match the honeycomb theme (for now at least).
Another thing, the finer volume function won't work on a device if it's lacking an earpiece speaker. You'll still be able to use the dial to control media volume, though.
I'll release an update soon.
Just released an update.

• Tidied up Preference Screen.

Don't see much of a difference in sensitivity (free version) when it comes to the fine tuning. However, threshold idea is great! Should unlock some more stuff for the free version. Seems almost all the useful stuff is locked! This app needs some work, but ultimately, pretty smart idea.

I've a better idea. Why doesn't the Dev unlock everything in the free version and then make a 'donate' version available on the Market? The difference being that the Dev donates to the person downloading...
The idea is for people to buy this. You know, a bit of 'pay back' for all of the hours I am sure he put into it. If too much is unlocked then why would anyone bother?
Unbelievable.

HTC EVO 3D with VirusRom (Senseless). The application works great, however, if the volume is at max and I press the volume up button, the FVC interface doesn't show. If I click the volume down button the menu will display. Would be great if the interface displayed either way, in case you needed to mute your phone in an instant, etc.
I am loving the looks, I mean the Whitish themes everywhere, that's what I wanted for so long. Just some screenshots in case one want to look how some sections look, for fun, that's all. I am stating some of my views on it too, please share yours too.
However not everything is great, I don't like how they have ruled out the scaling on the options, you might encounter one or two mi****s every now and then. I mean when you tap on option of some app, the OK, Discard etc. options have no box outlining those options, so you don't know where the scaling finishes. They shouldn't have done that. Tapping with fingers (which is and will be mostly done) can't always be precise. I have already miss tapped in some places!
I also don't like how they changed the notification clock font size, the AM/PM font is bigger than the clock itself, weird. The lockscreen clock has also been redone, it now has a slimmer font that KitKat, which I am not a fan of.
And I don't know whether this is a placebo effect or not, but am I the only one who is feeling that the in call loudness (volume) is a little softer than KitKat? Don't know, can't be sure.
The Dialler app now goes full screen, I mean edge to edge, simple change yet looks much much better
The Multi-Window mode doesn't have any small U shaped notification any more when enabled at the side of the screen, you just long press the back button to enable or disable it.
The lock screen notifications are directly tap-able and expandable, instead of dragging down and then tapping it to expand it from KitKat.
I guess you guys can use this topic to report bugs, whichever you have found. If this topic seems like a duplicate then remove it immediately.
Have fun.
PS: One more thing, I flashed the Polish version of the ROM on my Arab N9005, 32 GB. I tried to flash the German ROM first, because it had multi CSC but it failed to flash, so keep that in mind, I mean I think the German ROM is meant for 16 GB variants only.

There is no 16GB Note 3 variant outside Asia... I recall there being an issue with the German rom when flashing over to another back when 4.4 came out. You needed the PIT file to sucessfully flash from the German rom to another. This could be related.

From Developer menu you can invert colors, but that's ... all colors. At least you get rid of white.
I noticed a bug: turning the screen on isn't smooth, it looks like a two step process light up.
A missing "feature": hovering your finger over the lockscreen no longer produces an effect.

And this is why I don't plan on upgrading before at least xposed works perfectly and there is a way to force a black theme onto everything.
Okay after playing with the release for couple of hours I am really not liking it any more (except the colour part). I mean as usual with Samsung, they hurried up and released an unfinished ROM IMHO.
First and the most annoying thing I am noticing that the WiFi password (WPA) is reset every time when I toggle Flight mode back and forth. This is extremely annoying and I am sure there's a way around it, or am I wrong?
- Never mind, it's solved now.
Secondly, where is the Mute/Silent option? I mean it's either Ringer mode or Vibrate mode, but there's no Silent/Mute mode!
Thirdly, the upcoming alarm time doesn't show up on Lock Screen! What the heck?
If someone can tell me how to get rid of the above please tell me, I am mainly annoyed by the first problem though, the WiFi password reset problem.
I've not heard the password issue before. Are you sure it's not just a bug?
The silent mode is split.
You have one toggle that decides how you are notified. (the old sound toggle) Sets to either sound or vibrate.
And another toggle that decides what you're notified about. (Looks like an entry forbidden sign). All, Priority or None. This is where you set Silent mode.
If you set this to priority, you can decide which apps notify you. (settings > sound and notification) Call, text, etc.
If you set it to None, you're not notified with sound or vibration. The notification still shows up on the screen.
Be careful, as this will also silence alarms!
I would suggest priority mode and simply disabling everything in its settings except alarms.
The alarm on the lockscreen, nope. They removed it. Fortunately we can always use GO locker.

I believe the WiFi passwords not saving issue can be solved by editing build.prop (that is how I fixed it on the leaked version, haven't updated myself yet)
Look for ro.securestorage.support and change it from true to false. I tripped the KNOX flag long time ago (doesn't change my warranty) and I haven't noticed any misbehaviours.

Yes, was playing with that Interruptions option and figured that, but still that's a weird way. Don't know why Google decided to ditch the Silent mode, well at least Samsung could have kept that.
Go Locker? Well I tried a lot of third party lockers last week, didn't like any of them. I guess I will have to find a different alarm clock app which could give me an option to show the upcoming alarm time on lock screen, it's such a nifty feature to have. There's a module in Xposed which shows the actual alarm time in status bar (instead of that damn alarm icon) but well Xposed is not yet ready for TouchWiz ROMs, but when it becomes okay I will simply install that module. In the meantime I will have to look for a alarm app, that's all.

Yep mate, just saw that. Is it working okay with TW Lollipop now, I mean no more boot loop? Don't really want to try, in case bootloop happens I will have to redo all those formats and all, which I simply hate.
The only Xposed module I badly need is MinMin Gurad, can't stand ads, and AdAway is, well, complicated.
