[Q] help please - revert from custom ICS rom to stock - HTC Sensation

Hi,
A couple of months ago I upgraded my UK Tmo Sensation to Android Revolution HD 6.5.5 XE as I got bored waiting for TMO to release ICS. In short, too many of my favourite apps worked better with the stock rom than they do with the ICS, and so I want to go back.
I downloaded what I think must be the right stock app from here (RUU_Pyramid_TMO_UK_1.34.110.1_Radio_10.43a.9007.00U_10.51.9007.27_M3_release_196473_signed.exe, seemingly the last TMO UK in the list) and have been trying to flash it.
It didn't work ("wrong RUU" error message, phone never went into bootloader when I ran the RUU) and so I thought maybe I need to set the CID back to the original. Done that and it doesn't make any difference. Error code 155 thrown up by the RUU, defined in the accompanying readme as "One of these error messages will appear when you use the incorrect RUU to update and the image file size is larger than the Flash ROM size. In this case, download the correct RUU version and try again."
I used to be fairly adept at doing all this in WinMo and think I'm still getting the hang in Android. What else do I need to do before flashing it? Remove custom recovery? Change radio? Any guidance much appreciated!

TO DE-BRAND OR REINSTALL STOCK ROM (Changes to Stock S-off, Removes Root and clockwork)
Reinstall your original stock ROM you had (e.g Vodafone, Tmous, Asian, European unbranded etc. if you are changing back to S-ON)
1. Backup all User Data and Apps (Titanium backup Recommended) SKIP THIS STEP IF YOU WANT TO WIPE EVERYTHING
2. Use the SUPERCID method above. (Confirmed to work)
3. If you cannot get superCID to work. Follow this by Alexp999. HERE: any problems PM ME and i will help
Your phone bootloader will read "PYRAMID PVT SHIP S-OFF RL" after this, Root and clockwork will have been removed now
STEP 5 - CHANGING BACK TO S-ON - PROCEED WITH CAUTION. ONLY DO THIS IF YOU ABSOLUTELY HAVE TO. BEWARE THERE IS A RISK OF BRICKING READ BEFORE GOING TO STEP 1.
YOU MUST Follow this correctly otherwise you could semi-brick your device (Semi bricks recovery by re-flashing RUU). If you follow it correctly YOU WILL GET S-ON SUCCESSFULLY -confirmed by other users
I cannot be held responsible if anything goes wrong but i will help in every situation. 2 unrecoverable bricks so far. 1 due to not flashing RUU
First time i did this with a custom ROM installed - semi-bricked my device (couldn't boot due to security warning as S-on doesn't work with custom roms), restored it using RUU.exe
Second time after S-off i took the following steps and successfully went back to S-ON without any problems and booted up into stock rom.
Confirmed to work by several others as well as myself
1. Follow Step 4 above to get SuperCID - Skip if you already have it
2. Restore your official stock Rom: Just click here to download an Official Rom RESTORE STOCK EVEN IF YOU JUST RESTORED IT RECENTLY OR ARE ALREADY ON STOCK ROM. This is to ensure nothing gets changed in stock for S-on to be successful
So if you are already on a stock ROM or you just went back to stock ROM, i don't care, restore the stock ROM again using the RUU.exe if you don't want to be bricked!
Connect to your phone in charging mode. click the "RUU_pyramid_*****.exe" file you downloaded and follow on screen instructions.
3. Make sure when you download the RUU. download the same or similiar RUU version as your phone came with (e.g. Tmous or EU or Asian etc). As long as you install a stock rom similiar to what you had you should be ok. FAILURE TO DO THIS MAY BRICK YOUR PHONE.
4. Switch your phone on now and let it boot for the first time and just skip through the welcome screen.
5. Go back to Step 4 - SUPERCID and go through 1 to 7 to get to the fastboot bootloader. (so just do what you did before, put adb files in local disk, adb reboot bootloader etc)
6. enter the command "fastboot oem writesecureflag 3" (Thanks Dazweeja)
7. Reboot into bootloader using "fastboot reboot-bootloader" or remove & reinsert the battery and press power on while keeping hold of volume down.
8. Bootloader should now read Pyramid PVT Ship S-ON RL.
9. Remove and reinsert the battery. Press power on as normal
You should now have S-on back and you can return your device or do whatever it is covered again under warranty.
10. IF IT DOESN'T REBOOT and bootloader says ***Security Warning**
Remove and re-insert the battery and go back into bootloader and holding Volume Down +power button select fastboot
11. Run RUU_Pyramid_***.exe to reflash stock rom. (the one u just downloaded in step 1) and then reboot. It should work now

SEA?! don't you mean 11111111? well you don't need to change your CID, if you're on a stock ROM, you'll get the OTA ICS update eventually. unless you want to flash a custom ROM with ICS. changing your CID only allows you to flash any RUU onto your phone...

Changing your CID has nothing to do with rooting, so no, it's not considered rooting. as for warranty, i don't know, sorry...

[Q] Other possibility to flash my phone to stock ROM?? RUU doesn't work

Hi.
I bought my Sensation few days ago. Updated it to 1.45.401.2, got bored with stock Rom. So I decided to unlock bootloader to use CustomeRoms
I removed SIMCard from Sensation (I needed it in my old phone) and used official bootloader unlocker tool from this site http://www.htcdev.com/bootloader and everything went ok. After unlocking I rebooted my phone to bootloader and saw this:
*** UNLOCKED ***
PYRAMID PVT SHIP S-ON RL
HBOOT-1.18.0000
eMMC-boot
Aug 2 2011,22:35:52
Good so far.
Installed Recovery 5.0.2.0 (official tool doesn't include this) - no problem.
Downloaded ROM SlimSense, made full wipe (cache, data system, dalvik etc) installed it per Recovery (succesfully), rebooted and.... the problems started.
After rebooting bootloop started. Full wipe, reinstalation (succesful again), reboot and the same - bootloop.I thought that instalation .zip file maybe was broken - let's try different. Downloaded virtuous_sensation-s-pyramid-v3.0.0-beta ROM, full wiped, installed (succesfully), reboot and... the same - bootloop.
I started suspecting something is wrong so decided to cure my phone by flashing stockROM. Downloaded RUU_Pyramid_HTC_Europe_1.45.401.2_Radio_10.56.9035 .00U_10.14.9035.01_M_release_208857_signed from XDA, full wiped with recovery, and tried to flash it -RUU founds my phone, reboot it to start instalation (black screen with white htc- missing percentage info) and try to send files to phone for 15-20 sec - then RUU show message that it cannot update my phone. When I unplug phone from usb, phone goes back to bootloader and show:
*** UNLOCKED ***
PYRAMID PVT SHIP S-ON RL
HBOOT-1.18.0000
eMMC-boot
Aug 2 2011,22:35:52
RUU
Security fail!
Update fail!
After this "try" i still have fully working Recovery. I tried also 1.35 and 1.73 stock ROMs - the same fail
I tried to unlock super cid 11111111 but it didn'twork - some SMART_IO.CRD file is missing.
Then i tried to use revolutionary way of unlocking, but without system on the phone it doesn't recognize it. And i can't have system cause RUU doesn't work.
Then I remembered that my SIM card is out of phone.
So I put it back but it didn't change anything: full wipe, instalation of SlimSense, reboot and... bootloop again, the same with virtuos.
The same fail with RUU! , the same supercid and revolutionary failure.
So here comes my question:
Is there any other posibility to flash stock ROM? PG58img somehow?
Pls - DON'T TELL me that i should use revolutionary first - i know it now.
Tell me how to solve this problem.

PG58img ??? yes, you can try this : http://goo-inside.me/ruu/pyramid/fu...00U_10.14.9035.01_M_release_208857_signed.zip
after download, rename to PG58IMG.zip and move to root of your sd-card, enter to bootloader -> flash this...
i could be wrong (not an expert) but maybe its failing because your phone still says its S-ON

As far as I know Official bootloader unlocker gives only "UNLOCKED" and it's enough to flash custom ROMs.
@ ranggazay
I extracted rom.zip from StockROM 1.45 renamed it to PG58IMG.zip and tried to flash but still nothing. Also tried the same earliers StockRoms (1.35, 1.27 etc).
Unfortunately I can't use your file cause i gave my phone to service.
Any solution?
Hello,
did you find a solution to the problem? I experienced this today and thinking about a repair unless I find something here. Did you get any solution? Thank you.
Try flashing the RUU again whist the phone is on FASTBOOT-USB
Same problem here - I'm interested in any solution

S on will not allow you to flash radios. Unlocked bootloader through HTC does not give you s off which is a requirement to flash custom ROMS.
Sent from my HTC Sensation 4G XE with Beats Audio using xda premium
Htc dev method unlock only few parts of the bootloader.
It doesn't unlock the radio area, it doesn't give you advanced fastboot write command access (that's why you can't change your cid) and I think that the boot.img partition (where there is the kernel) is not flashable from recovery.
You unlocked your bootloader on a 2.3.4 rom (with a 2.3.4 kernel, sense 3.0) and you tried to flash two 2.3.5 roms.
Without the possibility to flash a new kernel your phone was trying to boot with a 2.3.4 stock kernel + a rom that was meant for 2.3.5. This could be the cause of your bootloops.
I would try to install a 2.3.4 rom, like android revolution HD 3.x.x, you could have problems with wifi but it should boot at least.
First of all get S-off then supercid ur phone. You need to have s off to install any custom Rom properly. Ones you do that hopefully solve problem. Try not to messing around u might brick ur phone. You already void ur warranty by unlocking bootloader.

Same problem but with different unit--- I have a HTC ChaCha.
Any solutions please? I would love to get S-OFF on my ChaCha but I know that is only possible via an XTC Clip.
Why would he have problems with WiFi? I think my stock ROM got broken or one of the stock ROM's kernels got messed up when I installed BusyBox because for some odd reason when I restored to factory settings with stock ROM the WiFi had problems connecting. It couldn't connect to anything at all.
I had same problem and this is how I solved it
Ok here is answer to solve you
Flash any 2.3.5 Rom and open that zip in computer and extract the boot.IMF file and place it to the web folder in c drive and and flash it immediately after installing Rom
Go to bootloader and make sure fastboot USB connected and then flash the boot.IMG file from cmd prompt
Sent from my HTC Sensation Z710e using XDA
With s-on and **unlocked** via htc.dev, you can't flash radio.img or boot.img, nor can you write using fastboot (eg. superCID). RUU will not run with s-on.
You will need to revert and downgrade via this guide, you can then either continue with custom flashing or run the ruu correct for your original software/baseband/carrier/location.

ok here is solution
just after u unlocked your bootloader u have to keep stock rom.....means official 2.3.4 and then u need to flash android revolution rom "3.6.x"
then after that rom boots...........just open the revolutionary.exe and try to root it and i am sure u will get s-off
this is what i did to get out of this problem.......after this super cid your phone and u will be able to flash any ruu.....
if u think this helped press thanks button

Flashing a custom ROM does not give you s off. Which part of you can't flash radios and kernels with s on do you not get?. You cannot flash Android Revolution ROM with s on. Read the OP of the thread, requires s off.

You're wrong. You can flash ARHD with s-on. The only requisite is to flash the kernel (boot.img) by "fastboot flash boot boot.img" and voila. You need to have the unlocked bootloader with htcdev too.
My Sensation came with HBOOT 1.21, so no revolutionary at all. I unlocked by htcdev, installed 4ext recovery and ARHD 4.1.3 this way.

i read that HBOOT 1.21 can be S-OFFed " reported done by a member " in [S-OFF] Juopunutbear S-OFF or [Finally Here!] HTC Unbricking Project threads , i don't remember if the device on GB or ICS
i think it is Juopunutbear S-OFF search inside it [S-OFF] Juopunutbear S-OFF , it is done using the wire trick , link http://unlimited.io/
the only comment i have , is to verify the S-OFF type , is it like hardware S-OFF " i.e can't be S-ON again for warranty reasons ? " or it Software S-OFF

Htc sensation semi brick

HI ALL
I have a massive problem with my htc sensation xe. My phone is a t-mobile sensation xe.This is what i have done to it i unlocked the boot loader from the htc dev website. I then rooted it using super click one. I then installed clockworkmod recovery. I then tryed to flash a leedroid rom to my phone and my phone would always restart after the htc logo.
I tryed to flash many other roms but same result, phone would either freeze or continuosly reset.
Can somebody help me please. I have attached a picture of my recovery screen as this is the only thing i have access to.
Thanks In Advance
And what happens when you choose an option from there?
try
fast reboot
factory reset
Try going back to the thread for you rom read, reread and reread agan,
Then follow the instructions 100% and as if by magic........................
I have been assisting this person on the sensation forum he was originally rooted with ship s off however he installed a Rom and apprantly his hboot has changed.
He has tried to change Rom but his phone is boot looping with the HTC logo and as you can see he his picture he is back to ship on.
I provided a list of ruu but he's phone fails while attempting to run application.
He has tried resetting phone through recovery and clearing data, cache, formatting system.
He explained he tried to root following the current 4 methods but still no sucess.
I advised him to seek help on here.

I done as you told me
1.)I went into recovery and clicked factory reset
2.)I then clicked wipe cache partition
3.)I then clicked wipe davlik cache
4.)I then clicked fix permissions
5.)I then tryed to install the shipped t-mobile rom
It did not work
6.)I also tryed to install another custom rom same problem. The phone would hang on the htc logo boot up screen.
I have included pictures to make it easier to assess the problem
I don't think flashing a Rom will get you back to s-on. From your pictures I noticed you're trying to downgrade from ICS to GB, no? If you have the ICS firmware (3.06), how come you have hboot 1.18 s-on? Either there's something missing in your explanation or you really have messed up the software. Anyway, why don't you cross referenced what you've done with this guide http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=16125079

2.)I used super click one to root my phone and gain super user access
3.)I then installed rom manger and clockwork recovery to my phone.
4.)I then used rom manger to download leedroid rom for my phone and installed it.
This is were it all went wrong. My phone would continuosly restart and not let be do anything. If i installed any other custom rom through recovery myphone would freeze at the htc screen untill i removed the battery.
Somebody please help i do not want to send it into htc and pay £60 odd pound
Have you tried to select fastboot from hboot, connect to a pc and run the ruu from there?
I have run into the same problem with Sensation 4G (TMO).
Here's what I did:
1. Tried revolutionary to gain s-off - and it failed
2. Unlocked phone with HTC (so my hboot scren says "Unlocked")
3. Flashed recovery
4. Flashed Android Revolution HD™ 6.5.1 | ICS |
Now stuck in a boot loop (with HTC logo on white background). Tried multiple RUUs, none of them worked (including the latest one from T-Mobile).
No luck resurrecting device so far.
weird. ive used revolutionary 3 different times to gain s-off and have never had it fail. i would give it another shot and be extra careful and follow the instructions to a T.
What version of leedroid are you trying to flash? Remember to have the latest firmware to flash ICS roms...
This is were you can get them...

I've tried firmware from thread you are suggesting (cid and mid matched). Hboot does recognize the zip on sd card, parses it and takes me to normal menu. Nothing else happens. I verified that my cid and mid match androidinfo.txt in zip file.
Any other clues?
I've also tried flashing "boot loop" at the bottom of the same post, but HBOOT keeps doing the same: loads zip, parses it, shows regular menu. Nothing else.
Other option is to supercid your device if you can.... Makes your device more flexible...

@paul.turchenko, the firmware will not flash as HTC.dev unlock only unlocks part of your bootloader. Radio and boot images (included in each fw package) will not flash unless you have s-off.
Have you tried to relock the bootloader then run a gingerbread ruu? Try to match the baseband, software version, carrier, area etc. as closely as you can to your original setup.

[SOLVED]
AWESOME!
Thanks to post above I successfully unbricked my Sensation 4G.
For those who stuck with the same problem:
Symptoms:
HBOOT:
*UNLOCKED*
S-ON
1.18
Solution: use tool from post above (can't post links) and lock bootloader back. After that your HBOOT will show
*RELOCKED*
S-ON
1.18
After this, phone will accept RUU (which failed before with *UNLOCKED* bootloader).
RUU:
RUU_Pyramid_TMOUS_1.50.531.1_Radio_10.56.9035.00U_10.14.9035.01_M_release_223976_signed
I will keep all files for a while so if anyone wants them - PM me.

[Q] Back to stock for OTA updates with SuperCID ?

First thing's first - I'm definitely not a newb.
My phone (Sensation 4G on T-Mobile USA) is depended upon for work and person use. I've been playing with a lot of custom ROMs and each and every one of them has their own little quirks.
Because of this I have seriously considered going back to stock, but I want to be sure that I can receive OTA updates.
I realize that I can get everything back to stock via RUU, HOWEVER, with SuperCID in place, would I still be able to receive OTA updates? I've read that the RUU doesn't replace the SuperCID with the shipped value.
If not, how would I get the SuperCID back to the original value (which unfortunately I don't have - phone was bought used and already rooted) ?
Thanks so much!
You can get the OTA with superCID the RUU will unroot your phone and reinstall the stock recovery. You will need the stock recovery or you could Brock your phone
If you want to be on the safe side and rewrite your cid do the steps you did to get superCID but instead of 11111111 put T-MOB010 That should get you back on track

So, by flashing the RUU it won't replace the 4EXT recovery with the factory one?

What about the cid??
Sent from my Sensation XE
No cid will stay the same but that has nothing to do with how your phone runs that just allows you to install the ics custom rom because of the firmware updates needed to run them

you could.. but since you can easily rewrite your cid, why worry?
after u flash stock rom
1. Super CID will remain
2. S-off still remain
I can download OTA from server but after download finish it will not install with the error about variant system (means we modified software).

Are you sure for this? From what I know IF you install stock ROM from RUU, it will automatically unroot the phone, get back to S-On and of course replace your bootloader with the original one. However to be honest I don't know what happens if you install stock from clockwork recovery - maybe that way the bootloader will not be replaced and you will still have S-Off and root.
TO JWhipple: The Super CID shouldn't matter for RUU. However you could always change it back to your phone/operator version before installing RUU.
@up: not in Sensation. After installing stock with RUU, S-OFF will remain still. To get S-ON back follow this guide. I'm sure, tested on my own Sensation
What would be the right order to go with:
Do you start with changing the SuperCID back to the original one forst or would you first have to go back to S-ON?
SIMPLY TELL ME ONE THING
that can we have official update after installing the latest ruu with s-on and unroot but with super cid?????
thanks

installing stock ruu doesnt change the phone to s-on or unroot.......but see the guide to do s-on then u might get the official updates
The ruu simply changes your rom to stock unrooted, changes radio, recovery and hboot. It doesn't change stuff like cid and s-off. In theory you can get ota updates with supercid and s-off. The only thing required, would be the stock recovery

Quick question, a few guides to going back to stock Sensation point or that you have to downgrade the firmware and radio. Is downgrading the radio (and firmware for that matter) necessary before flashing stock ROM with RUU? I did it with the last sensation before sending it in for warranty replacement, but only because the guide suggested it. But next time I wouldn't do it if I don't have to. Thanks ahead.

No it is not necessary. It will be required only if your device is S-ON and RUU version is older. Just remeber that if your phone is S-OFF and you want to put it S-ON again, do that after you have flashed stock ROM.

And you are s on? Forget about any ruu. You are cursed to stay with this Rom and firmware until *and IF* revolutionary updates. I'm sorry, but you should pay more attention before tampering with crucial parts of your phone

I believe someone found a solution using taco root, it looks complex and risky but it looks like it is possible. I suggest you have a look in the development forum.

now I stuck in bootloader... now I just wanna install some room s-off,s-on no matter :| but I can't run recovery,
I trying this
STEP 5 - CHANGING BACK TO S-ON - PROCEED WITH CAUTION.
It should work now
The above method works successfully. So do not under any circumstances try this without going back to stock first using Ruu.exe. and Follow the instructions correctly if you want S-on WITHOUT problems Any doubts or questions PM me and i will get back to you and help you.
Donations welcome as i had a very shaky night experimenting and bricking my device (and having a panic attack over it) to find a safe method for successfully getting S-on back for all you out there complaining about warranty.

DESIRE S: S-ON how to install Stock Android

Hello to everyone!
I'm in a dead end guys, so please help me out here.
I have HTC Desire S, which I unlocked using HTCdev Unlock tool and my phone is still S-ON some details below about Hboot etc.
----------------------------------
*** UNLOCKED ***
SAGA PVT SHIP S-ON RL
HBOOT-2.02.002
RADIO-3831.19.00.110
eMMC-boot
Jul 31 2012,15:41:32
----------------------------------
So I would like to re-install the stock ROM and did read a lot of threads on the forum but ended up not being able to install the RUU for my phone. :crying:
I was not able to update my ROM, not sure why. At a certain point in the update RUU tells me that it's not being able to update my ROM and so it suggests debug procedure to try again. Which I did 3 times and ended up with my custom ROM with no changes what so ever.
I'm currently using this custom ROM and I downloaded RUU_SAGA_ICS_35_S_HTC_EU_14.01.401.2_20.76.30.0835_3831.19.00.110_275068 as I'm from Europe ( I think I picked up the correct one, did I?).
So please help me recover to stock if that's possible in my situation.
Kind regards!

When you unlock bootloader it doesn't make it s off it just allows you to flash custom roms from fastboot so if you want to go back to stock you need to relock your bootloader from fastboot and then run that RUU.

Do I need to prepare the phone (clear stuff from the custom ROM using the custom recovery) before going back to stock android using RUU, or should I just use the "fastboot oem lock" command?
NVM: I re-locked it.. and ran the RUU - everything is working fine now.
Thank you so much!

I am on stock ROM, SL-ON and the same HBOOT(the only difference being, I have a unit that I bought here in India). I want to try out some custom ROMs to see how my device performs; with an option to get back to stock ROM later. Please tell me how did you install another ROM and finally managed to get it back to stock.

Here is what's needed:
1) Unlock the hboot, keeping status S-ON and installing a custom recovery + instructions on how to flash custom ROM.
Go read through this article - [Guide] How to root, install EXT4 recovery and custom ROM on HBOOT 2.00.0002
2) Something to bear in mind when trying Cyanogen Mod ROMs is that after CM10 they all need you to use the latest version of either EXT4 or TWRP, or the ROM will not install and an error message will appear on the recovery screen.
/4EXT_Recovery_Touch_v1.0.0.6_RC2/ or /twrp-2.7.1.0-saga-recovery/ - at least I had no troubles flashing any of the custom ROMs I tried.
3) Re-Locking the hboot and installing stock HTC Android using RUU.
Go here and download the RUU for your phone/region etc. - HTC Saga (HTC Desire S) Shipped Roms (RUUs)
Then execute the following: - ARTICLE
Relocking BOOTLOADER Steps
--------------------------
1.First when you unlocked your phone you received the fastboot file + an unlock token from HTC.
2.Put the files in a folder you can access easily or if you have them saved do the following.
3.Now put your cursor to your Fastboot Folder And Press SHIFT+Right click on the Fastboot folder and click 'Run as Command Prompt'
4.Minimize the Command prompt
5.Now on your HTC DESIRE S Turn it off and load into bootloader (press Power+ volume down and hold until a white screen pops up)
6.Then use your volume up and down to control it (Volume up goes up, Volume down goes down (duh) and pressing power button enters directory)
7.press Volume down to fastboot on your HTC and click the power button
8.Go back to your computer and open your minimized command prompt
9.Type in this code
fastboot oem lock
10.If you did this successfully a fail word will come up and your phone will shut down. Reload your HTC bootloader and you will see relocked on your pink header. (Note: this product cant be 'locked')
11. RUN the RUU you downloaded and follow the on screen instructions - the installation might take about 10min or less to finish.
