The Samsung Galaxy S3 has a great video overlay widget which allows the user to continue watching a movie while they perform other task. Can this be ported to other devices assuming they meet certain hardware specs?
The video is on YouTube heres the link. Skip to 0:49 to see the widget at work.

I'm sure someone that is a dev will bring this joy to others but I thought I ask.

i have searched and searched but i have turned up nothing. i know there is no video editing app for android. Is there anyone out there working on one. im sorry but i love my nexus very much. the one thing i wish i could do is record a 720p video add my youtube intro to it and then upload it to youtube. without having to connect to my mac convert video to mp4 then edit it in imovie then export it the upload it to youtube. i have thought about buying an itouch just so i could use it as a camcorder that have video editing. as you can see im not asking for much. im sure there is plenty of people that wish androids could do this.
Main things i would love to see
video splicing
transitions
thats all. i wish i knew how to program for android because i think this would be an amazing thing to bring to android.
I would like to know as well.
I'd also like to have this.
I already post this question but it is still unanswered :'(

I was interested in this too... even if I could just rotate the videos I rrecord by 90 degrees, that would be a huge help!

I'm curious to know if something like ffmpeg could be used? And then add a GUI afterwards?
Is there any cloud based application that can be used since we have flash and maybe let us upload your data and edit it there and redownload?
Sense as if that might be the least intensive work-wose unless someone has a native app everyone seems to have missed.

Hey all, there's a thread here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=830781 to port the LG Optimus' video editing app over to the Nexus One - apparently it's mostly working on the Vibrant already.
Have a few questions about Screencasting, and I really couldn't find a definitive answer, so I knew this was the best place to ask...
I review Android Games & Apps for a site, and normally when I need a video I'll just youtube link it. I try to find Indie games, and review things a lot of folks might miss and unfortunately you can't always find a video available.
I know there's a modded version of Shootme! floating around, and it worked well but the quality wasn't really that great for some games I tried it on another big drawback was the lack of sound. Are there any other programs to try, or another way to go about it? Anything that does sound out there?
I've seen some very professional looking videos with audio and flawless video playback by some of the big dev companies so I know it can be done, just not sure how to do it. I know I could record the gameplay with a video camera like a lot of people do, but I'd prefer to keep my fingers out of the picture and literally just do a screencast with audio.
It might not be feasible, but I thought I would ask as it's been bugging me for awhile now. Any suggestions would be appreciated, thanks in advance!

AFAIK: for anything above 10 fps framerate, you probably need another solution like a video (HD) capture card + an Android device with (m)HDMI-out.
Hey everyone,
I am trying to come up with an idea for an app that I can dig my teeth into to to start coding again. Any/all ideas are welcome. I want to focus on developing for the Transformer first, as it is the first device other than my phone that I use everyday.
So, what do you all want for your TF? What would fill a need that I can start with?
My initial idea was for a kitchen timer, with several clocks running at a time (something which would be useful for many things around the house I would think)
Cheers,
DTgreat
Would love a port of the DirecTv app that's on the pc for viewing video from your DVR. Doubt it would be likely without the source code though. Maybe the codec could be pulled from it so Mynet could load the video files. No idea.
How about a mini bar (like the one on Galaxy tab 10.1) with mini apps like notepad that can be run on top of the other apps? would be nice to go to a site and take note without back and forth on apps.
Turn the hdmi out into an hdmi in so you could play consoles onto your tf like xbox and so on

That's a neat idea. Maybe I can port this from my friend's tab when I see her next.

That's a bit of a project, but I think there is a DirectTV app for controlling your DVR, maybe a request to stream to mobile devices to their CS/Website would be a good course of action?
What I'm looking to do with my SGS3 is WIRELESSLY mirror the audio, and video of my phone to a HTPC/Mac. Apple via "Airplay"allows for this in iOS and it works BEAUTIFULLY using a client on the pc/mac like AirServer, or Reflection. I find it difficult to believe that this is not available on an Android platform. The problem is, searching for such an app almost always results in finding remote desktop apps n such. Watch a video using Airserver or Reflection, and you'll see what I'm looking to do. I've seen media player apps that'll send videos/audio, but not by mirroring the actual Android device. I know I've gotta be missing this somewhere.
There's an app called MirrorOp Sender that sends the video to a connected receiver/client, but it's VERY slow, and does not support the transmission of audio. MirrorOP Sender also requires the device to be rooted. Not like that's a huge deal to me, but perhaps to someone else.
Thanks in advance!

Xda tv did a review of an app that does this. Look on their youtube channel. To late for me to find it. I'm sleepy.

Thanks Here's the video I think you might have been talking about. I was unawar that TeamViewer allowed for the control of a phone FROM a pc. I thought it was only to control a PC FROM a phone. Thanks! But it should be known, though this is a seriously cool option. Audio still does not transfer over the wifi, only two-way video communications.
And so the hunt continues for something like AirServer and Reflection on Android. Don't necessarily nee to control it from a pc/mac, but would really like a wireless audio/video presentation platform for Android.
Bringing this post back to life in hope someone has a new idea. Can someone please explain to me why the ability to mirror audio and video from Android to a PC/Mac isn't available yet? Thanks

I am looking for the same, Although the other way. I think there are bunch of apps to mirror your Display but audio is not possible due to some limitations in Android framework.

I too was looking for an app like this and honestly sat there and started to wonder why i actually needed it.. can you explain a senario where this make sense and why an app that beams audio/videois not a good enough solution. hell i am with you on having more options including a featuer like airplay mirror, but maybe untill such application exists i can suggest good enough work arounds because like you i spent MANY MANY hours trying to figure out how do do this mirror thing with no dice. but i did find nice workarounds..
Holy hell, finally I think we might have a solution. I haven't tried it yet, but clearly, we aren't the only ones in need of this feature.

Looks promising. SplashTop 2 works other way round but is too damn pricey.
Just reviving this thread because I am also looking for the same thing. That app posted in the last post, BQScreen, as far as I know doesn't differ from the one the OP stated. Both apps don't transmit any audio, they just mirror the screen. MirrorOp is kinda cool because you can control it both ways, you can also use your mouse to click buttons on your computer to control your phone. Keyboard also works so you can reply to all your whatsapp msgs from your computer but at the end of the day it doesnt transmit any audio.
I use a galaxy note 2 and have never had the need to do this before because both the tvs in my house that get the most use happen to have a computer in the same room and I have them set up to just send the computer's screen to the tv screen and use unified remote/xbmc remote to do whatever I want, thus ending the need for allshare cast/apple tv devices which in my opinion offer an inferior experience than a full fledged HTPC.
The problem is that I have a tv in a room in my house that is getting more and more use lately and it doesn't have any way of showing netflix or youtube or all the files I have in my media server, etc. Basicaly, no access to the internet and I bought the tv right before all the smartv craze started. I am now on the search of a way to mirror my phone's screen (or anyones) to that tv in order to give that tv some added value. Of course I would still need to have some kind of reciever in that tv to get it to work so I really don't know what I am searching for. In the end I will probably end up purchasing an allcast dongle and use it specificaly for that tv, that way all tv's in my house would have access to all the media in my house and the internet but if anyone here has another option, I am all ears.
I have google tv and youtube connects nicely, i'm not sure if that's what your looking for though. I just connect and it plays the video on my tv.
Reviving this i case the 4.3 framework has changed to allow this functionality. If someone with knowledge of such things can chime in that would be great!
Bumping this topic, years have gone by and still no solution?
mirror from koush is the closest thing ...
it's meant for airplay so you can just install airserver on your pc
Chromecast
Google Chromevast
Looking for the solution. AirServer works on Windows and promises Google Cast support but it looks like it only casts audio from Chrome desktop tab. Google Play Music app discovers the chromecast device but music doesn't start
on my s5 when i played a video i had the small icon on the top of the player when i hit it i could stream it to my tv or xbox ect.
i read that The video player has been simplified too and the DLNA view is gone. You can still send video files to DLNA players or use screen mirroring.
how do you send the video to dlna players now ?
the only way i can find to do this is to open quick connect then select the files i want to play then stream them, less then ideal and slow at going through the multiple steps.
bUMP ... in the night ....
anyone at all please ///
The S6 isn't officially supported for screen casting yet. Expect to see see that icon return to the stock player then. I have been trying to play with chromecast screen casting and it is crashing constantly. Hopefully they update the chromecast app soon. As for DLNA I haven't seen an option For it in the stock software, grab bubbleupnp from the play and you can stream again.

Hi guys. On my old Galaxy S5 in the video player i was able to see and play movies directly from an external HDD connected to the router (nearby devices tab). Now on my new Galaxy S6 Edge i can't do that anymore. Someone knows how can i see and play movies form the external HDD connected to an Asus router? Thanks!

But no one seems to care about here? Im pretty decieved , but now sony are making great phones. I will trade mine for z4 or 5 if i find the oppurtunity

Note 4 doesnt yet have it and was launched sept 2014. No it was dropped on purpse by samsung. Sadly i didnt know that before i bought s6 . No review mentionned it because it strangely dsnt look important for most users i assume.
Download a 3rd party app like Skifta! It worked on an older phone. It's the best dlna app.

As fun as it is to be indirectly told I'm either A) wrong or B) lying, I promise you that this works on my S6 after the 5.1.1 upgrade. I use it all the time. Maybe it's carrier-specific? What carrier are you on? What video app are you using?
And when you say "That doesn't work" (tech support person's dream), what do you mean? Do you not see the option? Do you see the option, but no destination? Do you see the destination, but the content doesn't transfer?

Sorry for the misunderstand, I dont want to tell you are lying. The option exists but it doent work with windows media player on my pc (that is my only use of dlna since i have no connected tv ..) with the exact same configuration that used to work with my s4
Im under 5.1.1 / 920f / windows 10 / wmp
So could you tell if it works with your pc ?
Moreover samsung didnt mention its dlna support at launch (wich i thought they simply forgot such a basic feature ) neither announced it was back wih 5.1.1
Sorry again for any bad impression i left earlier.

Thanks, and no worries. My response was a bit tongue-in-cheek.
I think the problem stems from you asking about something different from the initial question. The initial question was how to send content from the phone to the TV, which is what I answered, and which does work, and which is, I believe, DLNA.
What you seem to be asking about is how to view content from your PC on your phone. I'll admit that I had a mighty struggle with that, even on the S4, so I have never tried it with the S6. If you got it working on the S4, you're already a step ahead of me. I never bothered with trying to do it on the S6, and if I want to view content on my phone, I just transfer it over either by hooking up a cable or by using FileDrop, although the latter is kind of slow.
Now I can be more precise about my problem. I can't share content between WMP under windows 10 and my S6 , thing that I did easily with my S4 with the same configuration.
I thought first that it was due to DLNA incompatibility since it was not present in the S6 launch. But now I tried on a smart TV and it works great. Still though I can't detect my phone with WMP and vice versa. I think that is DLNA as well so no reason it doesn't work.
If someone can do than it should come from my settings. Otherwise It's something samsung deleted.
Edit: third party DLNA apps work well.. so the problem is with samsung video app. What a shame they drop such options!
