I have a 'GooApple V5 3G':
http://www.gooappleblog.com/gooapple-v5-3g-review/
The phone works fine except don't know how to get the GPS to work.
'GPS Test' says about 12 satellites in view, but I never get any '"lock/fix".
I'm in Sweden (if it matters) and users with the same phone-model from other countries Europe and US seems to have no big problems getting their GPS to fix (though they may be a bit more tech-savvy).
Any suggestions on how I can make my GPS lock/fix?

I know there are MANY threads to the GPS issues and I am not having problems with GPS lag. I have searched and read and already have the tweaks installed (running the Elite rom rc2 which already had all the tweaks setup) and changed the no data sleep timeout to 1.5 seconds. I also tried on my original radio version, 32 and now have 28 and see no difference in GPS lock times. It will never lock on using Google Maps or iGuidance. In google Maps it says "seeking gps satellites (0)..." for about 5 min then says your gps receiver is having trouble tracking satellites etc. The only way I can get it to work is to use GPS Test, let it get a lock which usually take 5-10 mins, then close GPS Test and open either Google Maps or iGuidance and it will then work fine.
What is also strange is that when using GPS Test, the only way I can get it to work is to have the GPS info set to auto. It will scan then find the gps on com port 4 and 9600 baud. Then it will start up and try to lock on. The next time I run it it will already be on com port 4 and 9600 baud but won't find the gps device. I have to set it back to auto, and restart GPS Test, then it finds it.
There has GOT to be a way to fix the gps lock time on this thing. I have tried with A-GPS on and off and tried with quick-gps and saw no difference in lock speeds. Interesting thing though, I guess Google Maps will using cell tower location to identify where you are? When I use it without gps being turned on, or while it is searching for satellites, and I click "my location" it gets a fairly accurate location on the map.
It seems to me that the issue is with the com port and communication. Almost like the gps won't come out of sleep mode or something and gps test is the only program that can "wake" it.
Thanks for any info.
I am in the exact same situation as you. My TP fails to lock satelites 98% of the times i try.
I have read everything posted about TP GPS on this forum, i have tryed most ROM's and almost all available radio's, i have tryed most tweeks and all that in different set-up.
And after all that my GPS lock's rarely (2-5% of the times i try), and most importantly it doesent seem to be related to the radio nor to the ROM. At this moment i tend to think that i was unlucky with my TP that perhaps is from a lot of TP's with retarded GPS module.
From the forums it seems that most of the ppl dont experience this extrem problem with the GPS, it seems that most of the ppl around only experience laggy gps module update.
Atm i am still waiting for Elite RC3 hopeing that perhaps they'll bring a new gps driver, that will solve my problem.
In case Elite RC3 doesent help i will revert to stock hard-spl/radio/ROM and ill take it to the warranty service.
Sadly this problem with the GPS from my TP blackens my experience with it.
Are you guys sitting in your homes trying to get a lock? because then it is very unlikely you'll ever get a lock.
I have to go outside and wait about 1 minute to get a lock and then its fine. However, I DO have to use the HTC gps tool to get a lock before I can use google maps or any other gps program.
I am outside with no obstructions. I did find this app and may play around with it. So far I havne't been able to get it to get a lock unless I use GPS Test first.

My Telus Touch Pro locks in 3-5 seconds every time after modifying the GPS and adding the correct IP settings for Telus' AGPS. This combined with OCN8 makes for an excellent GPS device.
The guide for the GPS hack was from this forum, just can't recall where.
I have the same problem with GPS Test as you all described. I am now running qsqa's PROven ROM and I noticed following: GPS Test often fails to start-up the GPS receiver, but VisualGPSce worked every time I tried. It is a free software, included in the PROven ROM. If u use a different ROM, you can download it from here: http://www.visualgps.net/VisualGPSce/default.htm
Give it a try, it sure helped me!!!!
Hey ive unlocked and flashed to a sweet NRG rom and love it. I just want to use google Maps (or something similar) to find my position on a map (turn by turn maybe?). I remember with my iPhone when I first had it the GPS worked great then one day I was never able to get my actual position (just within a certain amount of meters).
Did rogers shut down GPS?
Now on my new phone when I goto "GPS location" in google maps it searches for a satellite but doesnt seem to get my position (0)... Is there a setting I can turn on to allow GPS or do I need to cal rogers and rip on someone? LOL
keep up the great work guys!!!

I just turned 3g on and did the HTC GPS tool. I opened the port and started the test and then menu-Information and I dont seem to have a position.
any ideas guys? seems like rogers problem.

GPS on the HTC is using the basic GPS Signal coming from satellites. Are u outside or near a window to a fix ?
Look http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Global_Positioning_System
What u used was A-GPS what is assisted GPS with help from Cell Phone provider. It gives faster fix and a pseude gps in buildings.
Go outside with ur cellphone with clear sky view, start the htc gps tool and u should get position fix within some minutes or even seconds. There is no need for 3g because the gps itself does not need any cellphone connection. It takes satellite signals to calculate the position.
When u update quick gps it is faster in the position fix because it already knows some basic sat data. But still no phone connection necessary for using GPS.
The google map u then only see with data (3g or wlan) not because of the GPS but because of the drawed map graphics wich have to be loaded.
ok i will try the outside thing although I have the phone pointed to the window pretty much. Checking rogers website both phones only have a-GPS but I still cant get an actual location on either. Only about a 4 block square or circle.
EDIT: ok i enabled A-GPS on the touch pro and still no luck with google maps. It still seems to be looking for actual GPS
OK im managed to get it working. I changed the port to com5 and scanned found some sat's I had to change the bit thing to 56700 on com5 within google maps. Seems to be working like a charm!
Hi there!
I just bought China Phone Hero H7000 about two months ago, and I tried everything to make GPS work. But I got no success so far.
I googled all arround the internet, and I can't get much information about GPS on this phone, or people who actually bought this phone and tried to use GPS.
I bought my phone on dealextreme. You can google for it and search for h7000 if you want to see the specs.
As I said, I tried everything to make GPS work, but it seems that only A-GPS works, and for that I need to be using a data connection such as Wifi.
I used a lot of application from Android market, for testing GPS function, and to fix GPS satellites position, to fix gps.conf, and file permissions. My phone is rooted.
Also tried some other ROMS for this phone, and I always got the same issue. GPS doesn't work without A-GPS turned on, and using a data connection.
With some applications from android market I can update satellites position, and I can see about 13 satellites, but I just can't connect to any of them.
Tried to connect with full view of the sky, and I live on the country side, so buildings and clouds and other stuff shouldn't be a problem. I tried it for hours, outside and I can't connect to any satellite. I'm from Portugal, and I already used the gps.conf settings for Europe, and also for Portugal. But no luck...
If I'm using A-GPS I can see my location on the map, but I can't get any coordinates. WIthout A-GPS nothing works at all.
I tried google maps, nDrive, Navigon and some other free and paid GPS softwares for Android. All of them (appart from google maps) just show "waiting for location" or "searching for GPS", even using A-GPS and a data connection.
I don't know anymore what I can try to make it work... Any ideas?
Does anyone bought this phone? Anyone with the same problem?
Does this phone has GPS? Or does it have A-GPS only?
Sorry for the huge post. Can someone help?
Thanks in advance.
Any guesses?
Co-Pilot USA version 9 has a bogus Longitude value read from the internal GPS. However the Application claims it has a valid GPS fix and shows 10 or 12 Satellites being received. The Latitude value is correct. Works as expected if a Bluetooth Mouse GPS and mock locations are used instead. Other GPS applications are fine. TeleNav, Google, Trapster and Even Co Pilot version 8 all read the internal GPS correctly. I don't know if EI22 stock did this or if my efforts to root and remove CIQ did it. Using the nubernel_v0.0.2 kernel version and CWM 5.
Opened a ticket with Co-pilot and all they had to say was the boiler plate how to use gps spiel. They did not address why everything else did a good job but instead blamed my hardware or not knowing how to use/set up the GPS.
I have tried re-installing the App. No change.
Anyone aware of a bug with the no-ciq roms and gps?
Thanks.
Hi,
It's long time that I try to find a way to activate glonass fix on my n910f
long time ago, before beidou sats were covering my area, I used to have fix provided by GPS and Glonass,
since then after one android major version update, I was able to see GPS and Glonass stats, but only GPS was used,
I remember reading somewhere that google decided to deactivate Glonass fix if GPS stats are available, for some obscure reasons...
the issue is that GPS stats can be available but conditions for location fix and precision can be bad, I remember that when both GPS and GLONASS were used, the fix was amazingly fast and precision could fall as low as 2m even in baddest conditions (bad weather, cold start, trees and even cliffs around)
now most of my cold fix require 10 min, which is unacceptable, I don't want to be forced to use other location services than passives ones (eg no WiFi nor 4g meshing.... and more, NO DATA requirements and other "GOOGLE" location)
I found a setting in developer settings today (translated from french to English so might be inaccurate) "Force Full GNSS computations" that seems to have improved the FIX time a lot (less than 43s for cold fix, accuracy <4m in city environment) but still no glonass used....
as well, since the first time, beidou stats number slowly increased, and now reach >10 stats in view and 5 displaying C/NO information and azimuth/elevation.... so about 30 sats where available today, with azimuth/elevation, with about 10 GPS, 10 Glonass and 10 Beidou....
BUT only GPS is used.... I don't like to rely on only one GNSS because it's highly problematic when mountaineering... a bad fix can be dramatic.... and sometimes waiting a fix in not an option...
so my question : how can I reactivate computing fix from others GNSS? it's not an HW issue, since all GNSS reports stats, so decoding signals works, and If I correctly read AOSP sources, fix is computed on ARM core and not by HW, and I remember this information saying google decided to ban other GNSS if GPS is available, which I don't like...
if someone can help me either refinding the information about when google desactivated the use of other GNSS so I can revert the changes in AOSP, or give me a way to do it without need to patch the sources... I'll be greatfull
Thanks and regards
JLM
