Do phone calls sound weird to you? - AT&T, Rogers HTC One X, Telstra One XL

Just got off the phone and it sounded pretty muffled.
it wasn't really clear and it sounded like something was between the other person and their phone's mic
was that my phone? was that theirs? Was that the beats by Dre? Anyone else experience this?

Call another person and see if it is still muffled. Mine sounded clear.

Mine did too but it has seemed to clear up on its own, in fact it is one of the best sounding phones I've ever owned.

Loudspeaker?

Have you guys found the loudspeaker on your Sensations to be utterly pathetic? I made a few calls today whilst using the loudspeaker function and on all calls it was borderline impossible to hear the person on the other end of the line due to the sound quality and general distortion.
Use equalizer, mines is awesome now.

+ 1 for Equalizer. There's also Volume+ that has worked for a lot of people. I personally prefer Equalizer.

I don't know what HTC did to make the volume on it so low on their stock apps. Whenever I use it to play music on Google Music, it's really loud. Hopefully they address it in an update.
I used Volume + and it worked great for me the phone is nice and loud now.

I tried Volume+ a few days ago but my loud speaker on a call sounded the same. How are you guys getting the call volume to go louder on the speaker?

My in-call volume used to be horrible but using Equalizer, I have it on the lowest setting and it's still LOUD. Give it a try, it's free!

I tried Equalizer while on a call using the speaker and I played around with the settings. It seems to be a little louder now.

Thanks for the update! We were all wondering...
Rock/classical- loud and clear
Heavy metal- projects sound well too
We may need a sound hack similar to the inspire and have it implemented somehow since most of us don't have s off yet

What is the headset virtual room thing in dspManager?

In DSPManager, there's an option to make the virtual room like a stage, room, large room, or studio. I've tried them all and I honestly can't figure out what the difference is.... can anyone explain what they do?

They add different reverberation/echo effects to try to simulate being in those types of rooms. Personally I keep these effects off.
I've tried them all on loud volumes and I still can't tell any difference

Those effects are designed for headphones. ... You are using headphones (albiet with super loud volume?), right?
Yeah. I'm using headphones. Its not overly loud, but its loud enough that I should be able to hear a difference

Desire S and sound/speaker issue

I'm having an issue with sound on my desire s. The sound just stops working after a small amount of time. There comes no sound from the speaker or headphones. No ringing also. The only thing working is call sound.
I have always to reboot the whole device to get sound working. This issue returns with every ROM I've used. Also it seems that Android versions aren't affecting it as well. Is there any solution to this problem?
Sent from my Desire S using xda premium
unfortunately this does sound like a hardware issue, tine to seek assistance of the repair shop

The interesting part is, that even when no sound is coming from that speaker, if I get a call and turn on the speaker for that call it's working.

Call quality complaints

I have been getting complaints on call quality from my wife which is who I talk the most.
Also this is a replacement Sensation and my wife complained even after replacing.
Have you guys got any complaints from people you speak to?

I also have HTC sensation 4G. People complain that can't hear me well. I have been searching a solution, but out of luck. I have tried many different roms, but the same issue. I'm using now stock Rom ICS TMOUS.

It is not always, but often enough to make me uncomfortable with the phone.
Works much better using a BT connection.

[TRICK] Beats Audio In Your Favorite Media Player

I found out a nice trick to get Beats Audio control in Winamp. Open Winamp start playing your music you don't see any Beats Audio notification. Now open and close the Play Store. Looky, you have Beats Audio notification. YaY!!!
Let me know if this works in any other players that usually don't have the Beats Audio notification/control.
I hate to be a buzz kill but beats audio API is hard implemented into the OS and is automatically available for all media players

This.

Figured that might be true, once the notification/control was enabled and the sound didn't change. Atleast you now have control of the on/off.

Also, you always have had control of that too.
Also also, why would you ever want to turn beats "on"?
I believe the question here is why the hell would anybody want to use beats in their favorite media player?
Sent from my HTC One X using xda premium
This discussion helped me because I use JetAudio Plus and noticed too much bass and distorted music. And, since the beats audio was ON by default it was messing with my equalizer settings. Finally, I know why. So, thanks everyone (except for the guy who faceplamed OP  )

Because everyone on XDA thinks they're audio engineers and can detect miniscule details in sound output on a phone.

Except Beats doesn't make miniscule changes. It can really mess up the bass balance and make things sound obviously weird. Though, if you've been using Beats for awhile I guess your ears get used to that and audio without Beats is what is weird to you. To each their own.

It really helps. I went from an iPhone to an Inspire to an HOX. In my opinion the only down side to android phones over iOS is sound quality. Beats audio really helps bring it up. Before beats I used SRS enhancement on my inspire.
Sent from my HTC One X using xda app-developers app
I think Beats would be a lot better if we could access the equalizer and make our own profiles instead of just going with the "one size fits all but not really" approach that is currently implemented.

I don't think I'm an audio engineer but I design and install commercial and residential sound systems for a living so I like to think I know a thing or two about what sounds good and what doesnt.
Beats does not make a miniscule change, it is easily detectable. It is an EQ curve that accentuates the bass and in doing so it muddies the mids and drowns out the highs. It's terrible. The only way for it to actually sound decent is if it's running through a system that has a properly set crossover and even then it will still be too bassy.

Try MixZing or n7 player. They have equalizers and srs etc

That would completely defeat the purpose of Beats, considering all it is is a proprietary EQ curve.

Yeahh...I realized that a few minutes after I posted but failed to edit since I'm a lazy bum.
So how about a whole bunch of pre-set profiles that we can choose from? They can maintain their proprietary stuff but we get SOME control.

I'd rather just have the EQ from CM9 while i watch Beat's dead body burn on a raft I set aflame and send out to sea. In fact, i'd rather just have CM9
