Html links are not clickable in email - AT&T, Rogers HTC One X, Telstra One XL

New to android coming from an iPhone4. I set my email accounts using the email app but URLs in any email I receive are not shown as hyperlink and they ate not clickable.
What setting should I change so links in email are shown as hyperlink and can be clicked without having to copy and paste.
Thanks

If I recall, Apple apparently sued HTC for using hyperlinks in emails. I'm pretty sure you can find some articles on it through a Google search.

I found out that the emails is defaulted to the smallest size so they all come in as text only with no html. Have to change it to a larger size in settings then they work. Don't know why that's the default. Lame.

Thanks for your feedback. I tried all different font sizes but i still get URLs as plain text.

check your mail account settings and confirm that the Format setting is set to "HTML" (without the quotes). links in my 3 exchange accounts are clickable.

Thanks for the tip. I checked my exchange account and the format option is disabled. Not sure if it is a server setting.
My gmail settings does not have the format setting at all.
I downloaded the k-9 email client and it does not have this issue the. Html links are shown as hyperlink in the email.
Btw I have Samsung galaxy tab2 and it does not have this issue.

Its not the font size, its the mail Kb size. Increase to 1mb and you should be fine.

@mactruck _ thanks for the tip. I set the size to maximum. Restarted the phone bit the problem still persist. It did help a little. Not sure if it will fix mails that are already downloaded. Let me retest with a new email.

I was able find the cause so if the link starts with http...... Then it will be displayed as a link but if the link starts with www.cnn.com then it will be displayed as plain text.
BTW: the size settings needs to be set to 1MB or maximum also. This is required.

Same issue
I have tried making the setting to maximum size, but that didn't change it either. If anyone knows how to fix this, please let me know. Thanks!

Are you using gmail app or the HTC mail app.
The gmail app never recognized links on my EVO, I then added gmail to the HTC mail app and it worked

Same here. With any maximum size setting, links are not parsed. Even links that begin with "http://" are not clickable.
This is using the HTC mail app and only applies to plain text emails (sent or received). Full HTML messages (such as newsletters) display links fine.
Any ideas?

If you're referring to a Gmail account setup in HTC's mail app, had to configure mine as an exchange account to get clickable links. Now when I receive notices from XDA I can access the forum threads via the link.

Thank you. That is interesting.
This is happening across all my accounts: Gmail, professional, personal. They are all IMAP. Unfortunately several will not work as Exchange. I did not know Gmail would and will try that.
Any other ideas?
Thanks again.

Just got an HTC one x and having the same problem. Seems like a stupid issue to have with such an advanced phone. I have to select the link text with those 2 green bubbles that are not easy to bring up, copy, open internet, select address, and try to bring up the edit menu and paste. I increased to max size and it seems to have fixed the problem for some emails but not others. There must be a permanent fix for this.

Thanks for confirming. That's what I do as well, and I agree it's ridiculous. I guess we should all probably try reporting this to HTC.
Going off topic a bit, I had a Moto Atrix previously and I have to say HTC's email app is way better than the one on that phone, which had major issues. Maybe this is due to ICS vs. Gingerbread. At least this app is reliable. I previously had to resort to using K-9, which is very full-featured but has a few issues of its own.

I would be willing to bet that this is why we cant click links...

Weird. I have no troubles at all clicking link. I click them everyday and they open the stock browser/chrome no problem...
I even have it on the smallest font too.

Weird, it works fine for me in stock mail app. It seems like some people are having problems with links in mail AND text messages but I'm not having those issues. Every link that I get I can click on and it opens whatever browser I have set as default. I am having problems adding invitations to my calendar when I accept them from the stock mail app though, and that's a big problem for me.

Well, but simply having a link take you to a browser certainly isn't patent infringement--or every email client out there would be in trouble! However, you could be right that the HTC app originally offered a variety of options, which would appear to violate the patent, and that they somehow removed the simple ability to click at all...
To those whose links are parsing correctly: this happens even in plain text messages? For me, newsletters and other fancy HTML content works just fine but all plain text links remain unclickable.
(Re. font size, I think someone said it was increasing the max. message size, not the font size, that resolved the issue for them. Neither helped for me.)

E-mail app?

I was wondering what people are using for their E-mail application. I have tried a couple different ones but I am still looking for the better one. I hope that I have posted in the right place. This is for app questions I hope.

it would help if you listed the ones you have tried so people dont waste time recommending them
i have used sense (of course) and K-9, i prefer K-9 but hate it because it does not resize the email to fit portrait mode, but lanscape is better but still not resized properly, not sure why the hell they would make the ap not resize the email.
it also allows a different "reply to" than your smtp server account you are using, incase anyone uses a 3rd party smtp service or server other than their ISP's or uses their isp as their redirect smtp.
i have to because my mail server is behind my ddns address and it looks like spam to alot of systems so my incoming is my ddns but my outgoing is my ISP and i use the reply to as my ddns incoming.
other than that i dont even know what other ones there are.... :\

Are you using the phone's native email app? Some people, myself included, have been having problems with this. I didn't really get far in getting in fixed, but I did download the k9 email app and it's working perfectly. If you're not already using that, give it a try.

Good, I hope that works for you. My native email app worked for the first 10 days or so and then just stopped fetching my email completely. Then when I would try and refresh, I would get error messages. I changed a few settings which allowed me to refresh and get new emails but it would never fetch on it's own again. I think some changes were made as k9 made an update right afterwards with a changelog that said something like; updates to security for IMAP and others. I think some changes were made that we weren't aware of but only affected certain people. It's a bummer as I really enjoyed HTC's full screen email widget!
Solution is straightforward. GO to Accounts, account settings, go to outgoing settings, and change the last two :
Security Type: TLS
Server Port: 587
Dont ask me why this works or what it means. I have absolutely no idea. I saw it somewhere on another device once and wrote it down 'just in case'. And it works!!

[Q] Email Attachments

When I receive emails on my Inspire, any jpeg attachment is automatically downloaded. I have searched and cannot find any settings that changes this behavior. The attachments download to the phone even if I do not open the email.
Any help appreciated.
What email app are u using?
I use Gmail, K9 mail and Secure-9 mail, and none of them download to sd card/phone unless I tell them to.
K9 and Secure-9 do download full emails with all attachments with total size upto 2 MB cos of my settings but that's stored within the mail app itself.
I posted a couple of times about this and could not find a solution. Regardless what email app you use, the stock inspire email app always downloads the pic and sends it into your photos and SD card. I think its a flaw in the OS.
Now since I am rooted and running a custom ROM, I don't have this issue but for some reason it use to bother me to know end.....
Never tried before I rooted but with Gmail, I have to click download before it stores it. It doesn't even store it when I preview. In K9, I have to click save.

[Q] Replace htc email app with standard android version?

The email app installed on the HTC One S is horrible compared to the standard android app when using it for activesync/exchange.
It doesn't display email properly and doesn't have message advance and back icons. You have to open the menu to get to them.
Does anyone know of a way to replace it?
You could just install a different email app. I hear good things about K-9 Mail (have not tried personally).
I actually think the standard android email app is pretty bad for Exchange, since its meeting invites do not show time or place directly.
I've used k-9 for imap connections, but it won't do an activesync connection to sync my contacts and calendar, unless there's a new version that does that.
I switched back to "Enhanced Email".
I couldn't find a way to change the ringtone in the one that came with the phone.
I also didn't like that you couldn't move back and forth through the messages like mentioned above.
I see Enhanced Email is $9.99 in Google Play.
I got it for free when it was the app of the day for Amazon.
I didn't know there were any alternatives other than Touchdown.
I'll give it a try.
Thanks.
I fully agree with you.
I already complained a month ago to htc for the lack of html support for example.
They escalated it to their technical support with no answer yet.

At least my exchange server, the original ics one showed html while the htc one option is grayed out and not working.

I have three different activesync acounts on my htc one, and none of them display hmtl.
Also, the attachment don't display from the mail client. You have to download them and open them directly from a viewer app.
Weird. It works on my exchange activesync account. See attached.
Attachments work fine too.

Its definitely a bug in your email app since it works for me and other android phones. I would suggest removing the account and adding back if you havent tried that already. I would also factory reset and see if it fixes. if nothing, the only option is to get a replacement.

Thanks for the Info and efforts.
I did several factory resets with no change.
I also already had the firmware updated with no change.
I asked htc support about that and they escalated it still with no answer for more than a month.
Yet, when I enter an account which is not my exchange server like Gmail and such, I do get html support. That's why I figured the issue is related top my exchange server version...

Lollipop email app really this bad?

Hey all!
Just got my Galaxy S6 yesterday and not sure if I am not just used to the changes in lollipop or if the changes are really that bad!
What happened to the organization of the old email app?
This may be the wrong thread and if so, please point me in the right direction.
I get a lot of spam at work, and sometimes it is easier to click on the date ticker, which selects all of the emails for that day and I can mark them as read or delete them.
Now it is just one huge stream of emails with no way to pick multiple emails at once to delete or mark as read.
Am I just missing something?
Is there anyway to select multiple emails or do I really have to go through each email individually?
And , if this functionality is not available, can anyone recommend a good email app where I can select multiple emails at once, particularly by date? Otherwise the app is pretty much useless to me.
I have an out of the box Sprint Samsung Galaxy s6 that is unrooted.
Thanks all
Mikeinstlouis

It definitely does. You press and hold one mail and the colours kind of go grayish. Then go tapping on multiple mails to select them. From here you can perform various actions like mark as read, delete etc.

That is not the what I am looking for. With the KitKat stock email, you can pick the date...say Weds April 22. You click the box next to that date and every email on that date is selected. You are suggesting that I click each indvidual email which is exaclty what I don't want to do.
Any other suggestions?
Kaiten does not have that either.
That's an interesting filter/option. Not something I've needed before.

Mike, I use the email exactly as you do. I'd click on a day and the app would check all of the emails . I'd then uncheck the ones I wanted to keep our read and then hit delete. This was magic. I'm lookin at all email apps. Have you found anything yet?

I know this is not what you were looking for but it might help someone looking for this...
to delete all emails you can long press on one email, until it is highlighted grey (or tick the box (to enable this box you can press the 3 dots and go to settings of that email and it is in there to enable tick box))
once you have one email highlighted, the top bar will turn orange and show the number of emails selected and the trash can etc...
if you tap on the number of emails selected (one at this point) there will be a drop down to say 'select all'...
I know it is not what OP wanted but I ended up here looking for this info so maybe someone else will too...
