Haven't seen anyone post this but have seen people asking about roms. I flashed cm 7.2.0 RC and I am not experiencing any of the call sound issues.
Just thought I'd pass along the fyi

Are you sure you are on right baseband? Did you test both incoming and outgoing calls: i dont think this matters but you should be hearing static instead of call if you are on the latest baseband and not official ROM
So op which is it

I think GetRIL would solve the ROM/Baseband compatibility problem. (Not affiliated in any way with GetRIL or the developer. I take no responsibility for anything regarding this.)
I used getril (free version) and wifi calling worked fine at least. Don't know about conventional cell calls though.

Did you try the March 11 2012 (latest) baseband with an unofficial ROM?
Tried cm7 with gitril. Only works on first call. I was so happy, then my brother called again and static came back.

Getril won't fix it. There are more significant changes that need to be made to the ROM.

Indeed, after reinstalling CM7 today, even with using GetRIL, I get horrible static on both ends of a cell call. Wifi-calling works fine still. I hope devs figure out the disparity and add support for the march baseband. We'd really appreciate it!
My awesome.brother loves stock. So he traded me g2x's and now I.have cm7 so.happy!

No, it just randomy goes off. Its not my router. I think it has something to do with the rom I was trying to port. DlevROM wifi works great, so does this one if it stays on. Something better than just starring an issue is to provide 'logcat's to help troubleshoot exactly what the problem is. Google for details on how to do it. Ideally comparison between a working BT call and a non-working BT call.

The option to star is sortof hidden at the bottom of the page on my phone.
Also, if you are not getting voice confirmations when voice dialing via bluetooth then I think we should star this: http://code.google.com/p/cyanogenmod/issues/detail?can=1&start=0&num=100&q=voice%20confirmation&colspec=ID%20Type%20Status%20Version%20Model%20Network%20Owner%20Summary%20Stars%20Priority&groupby=&sort=&id=3636
I have starred this as well but am experiencing this with other roms as well... must be me.
The new bb causes all roms to have no bt except stock. You can down grade your bb and bt will be working again.
starred!

When I flash 7.2 stable or any nightly after it, wifi calling quality is AWFUL. It's nearly impossible to understand what the other person is saying due to dropouts and static and such. It kind of sounds like cell calling when you have almost 0 signal (dropouts, distortion). Cell calling works and sounds fine, not wifi calling.
If I flash back to 20120603-NIGHTLY-p999, wifi calling works fine again. And YES, I do have the new March baseband.
I've tried this on multiple wifi networks that I KNOW have plenty of bandwidth, and the results are the same.
Anyone else have this issue? Solutions?

Yup, I'm on LG-P999-V21y, which I think is the only one that works with the March baseband.
Would RIL affect wifi calling anyway? I assumed RIL only had to do with the cell radio.

It's a College arena with about 10 wi-fi routers all over the place... still Wi-Fi calling at my house where nothing has changed is acting stupid... just takes minutes to connect at times, and if it connects it sounds weird and distorted... I went back to a OTA GB rom and nothing was wrong with wi-fi calling, so i dont know... Thanks for the link though.

stock 7.2 kernel -- it works fine for me, if and only if you
(1) are on 21y baseband
(2) use GetRIL to make sure you have 21y RIL
(3) flash Owain's fix for new baseband
(4) use Trinity ELPmax kernel..
Then it's fan-frickin-tastic.
Otherwise, it works, but you have to reboot all the time to keep it working.
So i downloaded getril out of curiosity. I ran it and it says ril and baseband don't match. I'm on 2.3.4 bb with a v20c ril. Recommending ffor me to upgrade to v21y. My phone is operating fine...basically i just want to know if i should do it or not, if so why?

it works similar to how windows uses drivers to communicate with the hardware, it is basically the same way linux is able to allow the android operating system to communicate with the hardware layer of your network radio, incompatible RIL/baseband can cause dropped calls etc, if it errors out.

You know guys, I thought the same until I realized that cm7 and all ROMs based on it had mismatched ril when installed... sometimes I forgot to use getril for days and there were no noticeable issues.
IMHO I guess, but I have found a lot of such info on xda is belief based (GPS fixes are another example). Anyways whatever floats a boat I guess.

hello...
what's going on everyone... first off just want to thank everyone for their hard work on these forums. thought the whole rooting/modding thing seemed harder than it looked, but when i finally got down and dirty, it reminded me of when i modded my psp a few years back!
anyway, just reading this thread and decided to dl getRIL, and it does say my RIL/baseband don't match. i'm running the g2x with cm7/mazout's 2.6.32.60 GB kernel and the "new baseband fix" after having the popping/"hash hash" sound (can't recall where the thread is off the top of my head...). getRIL says i'm running v20c, i was under the impression that this setup was "v21y-ish"? i've had this setup for a few days now, and the only issues i've had were random reboots/shutdowns (85% positive it's a battery issue... it looks like it's swelling!). i switched from cm10.1 JB (yesss! JB on my g2x...waitaminit... can't call or text?!?!?! aarrgggh!) to EB ICS 4.0.4 for about a week to my current setup (as i like having HWA and a video camera.) but with my current setup, no data/radio issues so far...
basically the point is: should i mess with my baseband or leave it as is? again, thanks!!!
I would use getril to adjust your ril to the baseband just as i did.

It's the same as updating drivers on your computer, you either want to, or you dont. But if you start having issues with connectivity, it is advised that you update the RIL first.
Mine didn't seem like it had any issues either but I did it anyway in the hopes that I could get better battery life, call quality, etc. Haven't really noticed any improvements yet lol.....

question: why are phones sold with unmatched modem/RIL?
Neither of mine were?
Sent from my SGH-I317 using Tapatalk 4
It is almost always best to use the RIL that matches the software version it is meant to work with. The RIL is responsible for interpreting commands between the Android kernel and the hardware radio/modem that enable the phone to work as a cell phone. One of the reasons that the G2X won't work as a cell phone with ICS is the incompatibility of the GB RIL with ICS and no G2X specific RIL for ICS is available.
