need to have a custom rom developed for HTC ChaCha with only core apps present and rest of the apps removed, primary need is that the user of the rom cannot turn off data and gps.
if anyone can make it, i will pay 200$ for this project, for details email me at [email protected]

Just keep them both on and don't turn it off. If you don't turn it off ( and disable the power saver) they will remain in the same state till your battery hits the 5% mark. Use any rom which is currently available and just remove the apps which you don't need. You can ask the community here to get your list of apps which can be removed safely and also HOW to remove them. It just takes very less time to do all this and also save you 200$. ChaCha itself costs about 200$. You could have bought a better device with 400$..

I'm using my HTC ChaCha for a week now and I'm 100% sure that the most annoying problem with it is the internal memory space.
My battery lasts at least 24 hours, and I don't expect more for a smartphone to be honest. I just charge it everytime I go to sleep and that's good for me. I don't have the "blue icon" issue and everything else works like a charm.
But the internal memory space... wow, that's a real issue. Try to install more than 5 games and you're dead. That's is not even acceptable.
Going to the point:
I live in Brazil and a XTC Clip here practically doesn't exist. Going into our brazilian version of eBay, there are only two sellers (this is very, very low) and the cheapest is R$200 (U$80). There is no "GSM Service" here with XTC Clips. Thing is critical here.
That's why I'm willing to do whatever needs to be done to achieve permanent root or S-OFF that doesn't involve buying the expensive XTC Clip.
I know some guys already tried some alternatives like the "gfree" exploit and temporary root. But what do you, developers, think that we can try to go to the next level? I'm sure that all developers out there already have rooted their phones because a XTC Clip is not impossible, it's actually very easy to get. That's why we, normal users, need at least some guide from the experts.
Unfortunately there is no other way except XTC clip. Either wait for alpharev or HTC to unlock the bootloaders.
As for the internal memory, I presume that you already performed at least one factory data reset?

xdbg also said in another thread that it could be possible only exploring some HBOOT exploit. of course I don't have the technical knowledge to find exploits and try low level coding. is there someone else we can ask for help? like the developers of other exploits or something like that?
i'd love to try to negotiate with someone who can help us achieve this.
and yes, i did one factory data reset, but this is only a temporary problem solver... the internal memory remains small and sooner or later i'm unable to install new apps again.
I never did a factory reset, have it s-off and use the amazing Link2sd.
Memory never less than 60 mb yeah it started at over 100 but its stable now at 60 and I have loads of apps...
The reset does according to guys on here help, but lots of my apps are non market acquired so they don't get re installed so currently not worth the bother as my memory is suffice.

This is exactly 100 BRL, almost 1/3 of the full value I paid for my ChaCha. This is unacceptable. I'm willing to use all other options available until I have to buy the XTC Clip. I'm emailing AlphaRev/revolutionary guys and I'll join their irc channel later to have a good chat.

sorry didn't know your chacha was so low price over there... for me xtcclip was 6times+ lesser then my chacha in Singapore(retail price).
As I said before, I tried to contact people from AlphaRev and Revolutionary on their IRC Channel (#revolutionary @ irc.freenode.net). I didn't have much success - I just tried once and none of the OPs answered.
I'm really busy this end of year, but I believe if a lot of people talk to these guys, we may be able to achieve something and find an exploit on ChaCha's HBOOT. I really believe they're our last chance.
If someone can talk to these guys, please say that we are willing to help giving any information they may need and even donate so they can buy a HTC ChaCha, if that's is the necessary thing to do to have S-OFF and be removed from Legacy & Low Activity Devices...
Dear All Developers
I m using mobile since last 11 years,i had never seen worst phone like htc chacha.
Very bad battery Backup
Camera is not much impressive as 5 mp
internal memory is very low-can play games & download more application even u root ur mobile..
WCDMA/3G is not working for me
Screen is to small for touch
Before HTC CHACHA i was using Galaxy pro, that was really good
My mobile usage is very high,I m Requesting to everybody to please help to unroot this mobile & guide me that how to lock the boot loader again so i can get some help from htc, they will not listen me becoz i had rooted & unlock the bootloader from HTC DEV...Also need stock rom so i can get back to original setting & all stock applications...
Please help Me ASAP
We are all aware of these so-called "problems" with the Chacha, and plenty of reviews state the same. I bought mine after making an informed decision, after reading as many reviews as I could find.
We all know that if you are a heavy user the battery life will be awful.
We all know the internal memory is very low (unless you use a custom rom and a2sd).
We all know the screen is slightly too small for regular touchscreen use, and most of us bought it for the hardware keyboard.
The camera (in my opinion) is the same quality as my HTC Desire, if not a bit better.
3G not working is likely a signal issue in the areas you use it.
You cannot re-add the warranty by re-flashing a stock ROM as there is a secure warranty flag in the software which is changed when the bootloader is unlocked and cannot be readded.
You could have found all of the issues you give without rooting the device and voiding your warranty. I don't think HTC would be able to fix your "problems" even if it was still under warranty.
I'm not trolling here, just being realistic.

hey
Battery is roughly equal to or better than the majority of android phones i have previously owned
Camera is ok for a budget phone - 5mp and a flash is rare on phones of this price range! (and much appreciated)
The internal memory is low but there are various threads on this site explaining how you can improve this (including a factory reset)
if 3G is not working it would be an issue with custom rom you installed - (common fault on some custom roms) which is a risk you should be aware that you run.
as for the phone I agree with the previous poster where I personally got this phone due to the qwerty keyboard and android mix - for its price its a great handset

since 2011 feb till 4 days ago, i owned an HTC desire. - The pictures taken with it was awsome. And the battery last me 1,5 day.
Since 4 days ago, my usage for mobile wasn't changed. Only the phone. Now I have an HTC cha cha.
The battery is ok for 12 hours. After that.. is dead.
And the pictures.. noisy and unfocused sometime. if you upload some of your chacha pictures, I will do the same. ..
maybe some of us are unlucky and got some lemon camera batch.
what do you say?

If you delete stock apps you will NOT get free memory. You will get some reserved system memory freed up. Which you cannot use, unless you want to integrate application updates into your ROM using Titanium.

The bad battery and low memory are fixable to some extent... Can't comment on the camera since I don't use it. And the screen size is the sacrifice you make for the QWERTY keypad in a candybar form.
My girlfriend has no complaints after we found the work arounds for the battery life. But then again, she is not a heavy user. She uses her phone for reading ebooks and music aside from the usual text and call.
There are ways to fix some of your issues. But if the hardware issues are dealbreakers for you, then get a phone with a bigger screen and bigger battery capacity. The chacha is decent for it's price. Wouldn't say that it is super amazing though...

I completely agree with Flexmaen.
My biggest problem was the internal memory and the battery. After rooting, buying a new battery and using Juice Defender, my problems have subsided. I'm liking the Status way more than my previous phone (BlackBerry).
hi all,
i gonna to buy CHACHA and i see it is very good
bbut i see problem with moving to SD but i see on HTC website and as i know on android 2.3 we can easliy move apps to SD
htc.com/help/www/howto_iframe.aspx?id=73282&type=1&p_id=394
Moving applications to or from the storage card
Move downloaded applications to the storage card if the internal storage on HTC ChaCha is getting low. Or, if your storage card is getting full, you can also move applications from the storage card to the internal storage.
Note: You can only move applications that are not preinstalled on HTC ChaCha.
From the Home screen, press , and then tap Settings.
Tap Applications > Manage applications.
On the Downloaded tab, tap the application you want to move.
Choose whether to move the application to the storage card or to HTC ChaCha.
is this wrong
and about battery is there i buy another original battery is it will be good ?

If you battery was that bad I'd change it on guarantee.
You can try to improve battery life by using CPU tuner (needs root) or Juice Defender or just turn off data transfer manually.

With a beginning like "Dear all developers" and an ending like "Please help Me ASAP" you sound like we made the phone
Look, the point is we all know about these problems. I'm using the phone since October and I know that a lot of the problems you have stated have been discussed in the general thread like 5 times each. You should have checked first before buying the phone.
Let this be a warning to everyone, learn to search and research.
For example, a few statistics from our forum:

Dev section:
Threads: 103

Do you really think that no one ever stated that the battery is poor in at least one of the above threads/posts? I can pin-point two threads discussing about how bad the battery is and what replacements you can buy on ebay for example.
As the guys have said the solution to a usable android phone with great keyboard is within your grasp!
I use osr
Have the cpu tweaked using the settings in that rom. Have ext on the sd card so currently over 100mb free on the phone.
Green Power for good measure.
Much much better than when it came out of the box now!

the battery issue is not only for HTC phone but to almost all android phone with similar capacity. it's depend on how u using the phone. since you are a heavy mobile user, in the first place you shouldn't have choose this phone... i'm been using android, ios, winmo except bb phone. the battery life mostly depend on how u use it.
I know this sounds like a silly question, but there is a feature that was removed from my device after the last system update, and AFAIK there is no way to downgrade from 4.1.2 to 4.0.4 (I've spent hours searching for a viable solution), thus this is the last possible option for me.
(The feature is active when the phone goes to 0-1% battery). I'm about ready to throw it out the window after this update; so tldr- is there any way (software, or rooted software wise) that I can get my phone to think it's at 0-1% battery?
That would be a godsend, thank you.
-Random noob.
(This is actually one of the few pieces of software for my android that I could see myself paying $5-10 for, if it were possible. Thank you)

The only thing I could think of is: get to the official site of your phone developer, search your device, find the list with updates, pick the one u want and reboot it on your phone, but im not sure if this will work

Things are tough right now and I don't think we are going to be able to pay our Verizon bill and I may have to just go spend the $40 at walmart to pick this up
Anyone had any success rooting this phone? How about CWM?

Just bought this phone a few days ago from amazon. I got it to replace a Kyocera Rise that I unceremoniously managed to boot loop when I went NUTS with checking too many options using the Pimp My ROM app. I nearly had that one for a year, so in a way, not a big loss for me, as I paid around $50 for the Event (incl. one day shipping).
I haven't activated the phone yet, but doing everything else on it seems to be all right. I've tested a couple of 3D games on it already: Temple Run 2, and Raging Thunder. Seems to run both fine, with only a tiny bit of lag on TR2. That can be improved once the phone is rooted. For now, I'm using my older, rooted LG Optimus V as my cell phone. I'll probably load a couple of benchmark apps to see how the phone holds up.
I loaded a full MP4 movie (rip from DVD) onto the Event to test 2D video.
The Event has about 1.2 GB of internal storage available, but the more important issue is the system RAM. It has 360 MB available out of 512 MB. That's only 3 MB more than the Rise... aack! But that can be improved upon once the thing's rooted. Ordered a case + screen protector for the Event earlier this morning... as soon as that arrives, I'll have the phone activated. Then I'll root it. I might skip out on doing any big fixes on this one. The main issue I had with the Rise anyway was with the wifi reception. It seems to be much better with the Event, from my own usage. Also, the cell phone signal bars seem to light up higher with the Event, so I shouldn't have too many problems with phone calls and texts. That usually means better 3G reception as well.
When this phone's rooted, these are the only fixes I'd do to it:
1. Editing the /system/lib/egl/egl.cfg file. Back up the original, name it egl.cfg.bak, then edit the original like this:
0 1 adreno200
# 0 0 libEGL
It looks something like that, but basically, put hashtags on the other lines to uncomment, or delete them. That fix enables the Event to use only the hardware drivers for 2D and 3D full time. Makes a huge difference in phone performance. Edit the permissions first, from r-- to rw- before editing the file. Once it's saved, put the permissions back to r--, then reboot. If you don't do this, the phone may boot loop!
2. Titanium Backup. This can backup all the apps on the phone, including some system apps. TB can be used to freeze unwanted apps as well. Some folks suggest uninstalling the bloatware, but I wouldn't do it, in case the phone gets a system update. Freezing should be fine.
3. Link2SD. This is essential if you want to free up space in internal storage. I use this to link any app that can't be installed to the SD card. It requires a second partition; I used FAT32 (2 GB partition) with the Rise, as it didn't have a custom ROM that had the ext4 modules. This will probably be the same for the Event. When formatting the SD card for this, make sure that the main partition that the phone reads upon booting has the boot and lba flags checked. I use gparted in Linux to partition and format SD cards
4. Greenify. This allows apps to hibernate when the phone is idle. It even hibernates some apps while you're using the phone, saving you some memory and CPU cycles. That can help save some battery power.
For now, I'm using Advanced Task Killer to maintain some free memory and help reduce unwanted CPU cycles. Green Power Premium cuts off the 3G/WiFi when the phone is idle. ATK kills apps, but I set it to work every two hours. That lets the phone do its memory tasks, while ATK kills the more stubborn apps (mostly the bloatware I don't use).
Hope that helps you out, and good luck.
Thanks for the input guys.

I got this phone for $20 at Walmart's Black Friday sale. For that price who could pass up Android 4.0x? Despite its apparent lower quality, I am quite pleased with its overall performance and the virtual keyboard, surprisingly, works better than a many other phones I have tried.
permission question
Hey all,Ive never messed with changing permissions,I have an Event and Im wonder ing when I open the permission page with root explorer it reads like this
READ WRITE EX
OWN X X
GROUP X
GLOBAL
In the post it says "from r-- to rw- before editing the file" Dopes this mean OWN has 1 X,GROUP has 2 X,and GLOBAL is blank correct? Then edit file and change to how it was in the begining? Thanks alot!!!!
Sorry to rehash and old thread but this one seemed to fit the best to what I am experiencing and what I'd like to ask.
I have owned this phone a little over 3 months now, switching from LG Optimus V, I have some grief from the day one.
First and foremost, it is very unstable. On the average, I have to hard reset it once a day, most of the time, more than just once. And when I say Hard Reset, I mean holding the power button down forever for the phone to reboot as the screen doesn't show anything. A few times, I went as far as removing the battery.
Question 1. I looked around hard and I didn't see any custom ROMs or any custom recovery modules, likes of clockwork. Am I missing something ?
My main concern was the ability of running FoxFi and as expected, it did not run on this one. So, I took the advie of some guys over at the android forums and loaded up poot to root it. It seems to have no problems with rooting. But afterwards, I have tried few hotspot apps and never been able to turn on this fjunctionality. I know the apps I chose required root access and I turned it on before starting the app, but nada...
Question 2. How can I get either FoxFi working on this thing ? Or short of it, how can I make any (suggestions welcome) WiFi hotspot app working with it ?
Thanks in advance

Yes I own a virgin mobile kyocera event and sucessfully rooted device with no problems at all. The process is much more simplified now than it was when I rooted, so lucky you And your going to want TWRP so you can use the recovery stored on SD if you do come across and bootloop or brick issues. Its worth the $30 I spent It's not the best by far, but its really pretty capable once rooted. Much better than I had expected. I hope I was of help to you, and if u decide to buy it and need help rooting I'm down.

Hello,
Long time i didn t buy a new phone ( i am still on s9+) and there where a lot of rom for the s9+, but doesn t seem to find them for the s21+.
Where are they ?
I believe more people aren't interested to root, unlock bootloader and create custom roms. One of reasons you lost warranty, secondly you lost google pay, samsung pay, secure folder etc. No Updates OTA. And many more. Yes you can fix some of them by custom kernel or Magisk Hide etc. And android in nowadays is enought good. So are you interested in this?
@Itadiki What are you missing from OneUI? What would you want from a custom ROM that you don't have in the official ones?
As @Nettwerk was saying, nowadays OEM Android is good enough even for most of the people that in the past would run a custom ROM. So custom ROMs make little to no sense. Put the disadvantages on top (like loss of warranty or functionalities) and you get the current situation.
@Nettwerk My s9 was rooted and I still had access to google pay. We don t have samsung pay and never used secure folder but I don t see the reason why it would not work
As For @daniel_loft The same reason I wanted my all other devices rooted. Faster speed, no bloatware, optimization in general, and discover a lot of possibilities I didn t think about with all rooted software than can customize everything.
I can root the device myself, Remove the bloatware, install xposed framework and lots of other tools myself. But I am lazy, and not as knowledgable as the excellent people who spend hours and hours on giving us a way better rom than the stock one.
Yes the loss of warranty is a risk I am willing to take.
Secure folder checks knox. If efuse is trigered than it doesn't work. If I'm not wrong.

Custom roms are always a good option , they lead to many innovations that with time and popular demand are later integrated in official rom , my last two phone i have not rooted them , i have not missed a thing from not doing it either.
If you root you will miss out in Samsung pay or google pay but of course it may not be important to everyone

It's not what's missing...it's what I *want* missing....I really want to get rid of the Bloat...nd fix a couple of issues that are plaguing my current s10+ (like the fact that any streaming is interrupted if *any* other resident program is in front of it, and needs an update....my Music cuts out when Waze needs to check in, for example (every 5 minutes).... and T-Mobile swears there is nothing wrong. (...then why did it start doing this *after* a forced Update that they refuse to roll-back?)

I could go on...but it's not additional functionality...it's control of my device (If I wanted to be told how to use my phone...I'd get an iPhone *ecccchh*)

I know what you mean.
I remember back in the day when I had an HTC One X (still my favourite phone even though I got an s21) then later the M8 and there were tons of roms and mods available from a range of creators. My fav rom was the Viper range which had tons of features like tap to wake and customisable themes which didn't appear on official android for years and had OTA updates which got you on the latest android version before official release.
But I think, as said above, nowadays android has progressed to the point that you don't need to root to get roms with missing features and the likes of Samsung update their phones much faster than they used to. Even I haven't installed a custom rom since the S8 (the S6 & One M9 were the last ones I rooted. And the M9 was only to remove htc bloatware). And though rooting is still useful for removing baked in apps you don't need (Samsung, I'm looking at you!) but in general it's not needed anymore. Especially since manufacturers seem to have got 'inspiration' (interpret that as you will) from some of the fantastic indipendent developers found on sites like XDA.
The other problem is that these days more people use their phones for banking and paying in store and these functions are blocked on rooted phoned.
It is a shame though, the creativity, diversity of mods and general level of knowledge that was once found here back then was amazing.
That's not to say there isn't great talent still here, there is, simply back then there were much more developers creating full roms.

Totally agree with you here.
This was once a clear distinction between android and iPhone. These days they are all trying to suck you into their own eco system.
What's funny is that on my Huawei Nova 5t I had much more control of an apps access to my data and no apps were 'baked in' like Samsung pay etc. We should not have to root a phone we own to remove apps we don't want or make changes to the functionality of a phone, especially after we have paid hundreds of £/$ or more for.
i like root for Root level Backup, Host File level adblocking see wakelocks, change CPU/GPU underclock/overclock/undervolt.. And to keep upgrading my phone to new versions long after the manufacturer stops providing updates.
I am looking at a S22.. though if no community support then maybe not..

unless u buy an exynos s21, u'll be able to root and do whatever... but if u buy a qualcomm one., u wont be able to root, unless u pay... i suggest to stay away from samsung (qualcomm) if u're into the rooting scene

i avoid snapdragon like plague for some years already since the inability to root/titanium backup. as long as the phone can't be rooted, i don't buy it, even exypnos is hotter slower dumber etc but the freedom to block ads and freeze/unfreeze/backup app is totally unmatched. also nowadays there's knoxpatch module so i can pretty much use any samsung secured function (just lack samsung pay/pass)
