[Q] Notification bar while locked. - AT&T, Rogers HTC One X, Telstra One XL

How come the notification bar is accessible while the phone is on the lock screen? Is this part of ICS or something HTC did? I am using stock lock screen with no password. Any way to disable this?

The notification pane is available when the phone is locked, but not while it is locked and secured. If you want to stop this, put a pin/pattern lock on (which you should have anyway...)

This is a feature of ICS.

This is about the 12th Android phone I have had.. the other 11 did not allow pulling down of the notification pane when on the lock screen, whether there was a security pin or not.

Thanks mesasone, thats what I needed to know.

A nice feature, at that. Recently noticed it myself. Running ICS AOKP on my old old Evo. Will be getting a one x variant (Evo 4g lte on sprint) in about 2wks (release day).

It's an ICS feature.

Can this "feature" be diabled. My phone keeps on getting unlocked and changing settings while in my pocket but I don't want to have a pin?

Smh in general really

The above link is dead when I tried it last.
Has this Question been answered. I am having the same problem. I do not want a PIN or Dots, only the "Swipe" while locked. And while Docked, the Volume Buttons, and the Notification Bar can be dealt with, which allows accidental settings to be changed on the Lock screen.
I have found "Volume Locker" to control the volume, to always have it set to High no matter the volume keys inputs, and now am looking to disable the notification bar while on the Lock Screen.
Any help would be great, how is this not an option inside of Sense.

Idea for a rom function

A lockscreen activated by a combo keypress (vol up+down?) which locks the screen on whatever you're looking at including screen brightness and position, so you might hand your phone over to someone without accidently hitting back or having the screen shutoff whilst trying to show them a pic or what have you. I.E. a freeze frame. Then same keypress to unlock. Forgive me if this exists already, I didn't feel like searching kinda buzzed. Mostly want it for weapon, mostly.

Doesn't exist but for future reference, post things like this in the questions forum.
I have no idea what you're talking about? You just want a different combination to lock the phone other than the native lock button at the top of the phone?

I understand what you mean, but just set the screen timeout to a longer duration.

I think he wants quick access to this function though also he doesn't want the screen on all the time after he let's whoever borrow it. I think this would work better with toggles on screen more then anything

Freeze the phone screen on whatever is there not allowing screen timeout, screen position change, key or touchscreen presses (excluding activate and deactivate freeze frame). Basically freeze the phone in its current state until you resume.

Basically make it so the phone is unresponsive until the button combo is pressed again? It's out there, I'll look for it.
EDIT: I'm having a hard time finding it, but if I come across it, I'll post it.

Enable bypassing lockscreen for camera?

I like to keep my phone locked, but it would be nice to be able to skip right to the camera app by pressing the shutter button. Anyone know of a way to set that up while leaving all non-camera apps in a locked mode? I realize i could also leave the main lock unlocked and use an app locker like Seal, but the ones i've looked at don't have an option to unlock all locked apps for a period of time after entering a passcode, which makes using apps cumbersome.
Your device should already do this as default behavior...?

You have to hold it down. I wasn't aware of this until Blue pointed it out to me.
I think he means when you have a pattern lock. He wants to be able to go straight to the camera with out having to put in his pattern, but still have to use the pattern to unlock the rest of the phone..I want to do this too.

Okay, yep, you are right - I was responding as I was waking up and making some coffee, didn't pick up on that.
Not sure how to make this work, other then re-writing the passcode part of the system to have an exception for the camera.

Exactly.
Or if I could find an app locker that can remember an overall unlocked state for all apps for given amount of time.

No, I'm looking for an app locker that would let me globally unlock any locked apps for a period of time once I unlocked one.
Any Rom not based off the Stock DS Rom losses that awesome trick. Roms using HTC Sense can have the camera asigned to a quick launch. ICS is a slide to the left with the unlock ring.

Those options don't bypass a pattern or passcode lock, which is what i'm asking about.

I can't stand it.

This lockscreen is annoying as crap... I'm sorry m venting, I hate the fact that I can't take my text messages off the lockscreen. Or in order to use dash clock I have to pull down.... Again just venting. But other than that, I love this phone

It doesn't get rid of it off the lock screen. Just doesn't tell me who it is, which is even more annoying

yea, i dont like the new ls either... i prefer the aosp one...
Use the message center lock screen widget. Its a single communication screen for all messages. Does that help?
Guys the problem is this - when you enable ""Preview Message" it enables it on the lockscreen, which is nice I guess, whatever. But, this also enables you to see who sent the message in the notification shade.
Now, when you turn it OFF it still shows it in the lockscreen AND the notification shade but doesn't tell you who it is.
The big issue with this is, if you have a lock-pattern or other security turned on WITH "Preview Message" turned on, then anyone can see the contents of the SMS on the lockscreen - BAD SECURITY. On AOSP, this did not behave in this manner. On AOSP you would receive the notification, but that's all I need to see "Hey I have an sms!" - I don't need to preview this if I have enabled security on my phone for the very reason of keeping prying eyes off my phone.
I've never liked the new lockscreen of jellybean...I find lockscreen widgets annoying and pointless...then again I never really liked widgets in the first place haha

I was JUST going to post about that. I have some nosy ass girls who look over at my huge screen whenever they hear a beep or a buzz and I REALLY can't believe they wouldn't include a seperate option to NOT see the message preview from the lock screen.
It's nice to be able to preview it WHEN you slide the notification bar yourself but I don't need prying eyes on my lock screen.

im running apex launcher pro and rooted but even when i enable all the options , i get no notifications on my lockscreen , does it work with apex or only tw ?
I hate this lock screen too! It's so frustrating because I have long fingers, and I very often hit the clock when trying to swipe which just "grabs" the clock instead of unlocking the phone..
I am completely missing the point of widgets on your lock screen. I don't want them at all and I want to turn them off, but that's not an option. Why?? I want the screen to unlock whether I swipe the clock or a blank part of the screen!
Opening messages directly from the lock screen now is also a chore. Who thought to themselves that sliding a puzzle piece across the screen (or dragging your finger across an icon) to look at a message was too hard, and then came up with the current implementation? Click the message, then swipe your finger in a very specific part of the screen. Because that's intuitive.
We can have many home pages that have all of the widgets and icons we want on them. Why do we need an extra layer of them on our lock screens? If the lock screen weren't cumbersome to use, then shortcuts on the lock screen wouldn't be necessary because they wouldn't be saving any time.
The way the lock screen works really irritates me, and I honestly thought about just keeping my GS III because of it (and a couple of other things that are OT).
As cheesy as the slider lock screen on the iPhone is, one thing I really like about it is the ability to open the camera app directly without having to input my (corporate IT mandated) PIN to use it. That extra second or two wasted putting in my PIN on the S4 could mean I might miss a neat shot. It needs some tweaking, for sure.

No....just no...I hope your joking there are already enough threads talking about lag (which I still haven't experienced on my s4)
But yeah...once we get some roms cooking I'm sure devs will give us some better lockscreens...and probably even port the s3 lockscreen over

Unlock transition bug?

I've noticed a very subtle but strange behavior on KitKat generally. When I unlock my device, there is usually a smooth window animation that leads you into the home screen. However, if you access the camera by swiping right on the lock screen, the next time when you unlock the device, the animation seemed to be gone and just enter the home screen really quick. I set the window animation scale to 10x in developer option just to see if I was right and I found out that indeed when you enter the camera from lock screen, the animation is gone. It does come back after a reboot though. I am wondering if this happens to everyone or just me.

Like others have said, this is a confirmed bug. An easy workaround though is to swipe left on the lock screen as if you're going to access the camera then quickly swiping right before it goes into the camera app. In other words, swipe left then right.
If it doesn't work for you after you try it, let me know and I'll try to be more specific.

Lock screen -Solved thanks!

I would like to completely skip the lock screen that has the shortcuts, etc that pops up soon as I hit the power button. I'm not talking about the lock screen with my password.
I've hunted and haven't found anything yet. That lock screen is not helpful to me. Maybe will have to wait on custom roms.
Thanks for any help.
Never mind ... Had to fix my typos.

Thanks so much. I've hunted and had tons of htc phones. How did I miss that.

Well, hopefully it does what you want. I played with it a bit here and it does work if the time you set to lock the phone has been reached. Just takes you directly to your pattern or pin lock. However, if that time hasn't passed, you still see the lock screen when you wake the phone up. At least that's how it works on mine.
Same here. Also, I still get the lock icon for two seconds then it auto skips to the lock pattern. Oh well. You're post was a big help though.

That's odd. When I turn mine on it goes directly to pattern lock. I never see the first screen. Perhaps pattern lock and pin lock act differently. Don't know why they would though.
Yeah ... Love the phone but little things like this make it a pain at times. I like to hit the power button most of the time and go straight to my screen.

Yeah, I know what you mean. I use Tasker in combination with Secure Settings to do this. Wifi gets turned on automatically whenever it connects to the tower outside of town here. Then when I get home, it automatically connects to wifi (only if it's my wifi). When that happens, it turns off pattern lock. When I leave and the wifi disconnects, it turns pattern lock back on again. It's a little buggy on this phone though. Hit and miss it seems. I'm guessing it might have something to do with the way our root works so I'm waiting on s-off before I start trouble shooting it. It worked great on my Razr Maxx. Never missed.
Why push the power button? Just swipe up on the screen to unlock the phone and go directly to these home screen...
I hear ya. Yeah it gets a little old sweeping that much screen up 30 times a day just to get to my home screen. Going s off and custom ROM will help, as well.

Do you have pattern lock or a pin lock set up? The option doesn't become available until you set up one of the various types of locks.
