[HELP] Percent Battery - Nexus S Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

My ROM offers a 'Gummy Fat Battery' icon settings. It is almost exactly what I want for a percent battery. The problem is the actual icon never actually changes the amount of blue it shows for the battery. What I mean is it is half blue and half black (with a grey battery percent in the black space, over the blue space). If I give someone my SystemUI.apk can they edit my battery icon so it keeps that same grey percent inside the battery icon, and also so make it so the blue color actually moves/changes to match how much battery I have (half full for 50%, 3/4 for 75%, 9/10 90%, etc....)?

Battery Life, Another One

Alright. I just calibrated my battery only to make it seemingly worse. I want your help. Everything down to battery saving with governors, schedulers, min/Max settings, governor settings, EVERYTHING. The only thing I won't change is my Kernel . Air kernel gives the best battery life out of all the other ones for me. I want help with governors, schedulers and the min/Max settings. Loosing 1% per 3 minutes (20% in 1 hour, I can only manage about 3 hours of on screen time which seems mathematically incorrect....) on-screen with data seems like too much!
Tested SetUps:
Nexus S (GSM i9020a)
AOKP (Milestone 4)
1) Air Kernel (3.45)
OC 800/100 (Lionheart)
LIve OC (100 - Noop)
2) Air Kernel (3.45)
OC 800/100 (smartassV2)
Live OC (100 - Sio)
So far the smartassV2 is doing a better Job with on-screen battery (1%/2-4 min compared to 1%/1-2.5 min). Lion heart will loose 0/1% every 10 hours idling where as smartassv2 lost 10% in 10 hours while idling. Deep Idle is off for both. Having it on gives me a massive battery drain. The CFQ scheduler is pretty bad for battery consumption I've noticed.
What should I change to maximize my battery potential? I haven't messed around with smartassv2's settings they are default Air Kernel right now.
Try lazy / deadline (or cfq)
But it's gonna make little difference, because screen drains most of battery life.
Try to turn off app's notifications not needed.

See this thread for further information.
You do know that when calibrating your battery, you need to give it a few days/few recharges to see results?
Calibrating does, essentially, nothing. 1%/3 minutes is normal battery drain with screen on (low-mid brightness, wifi on/in use). 3G probably wouldn't use any more battery unless it's for downloading something huge and the phone should sleep better (screen off) on 3G than wifi.
Your governor/scheduler/OC settings do not matter as much as the screen. What can really guzzle though is your phone not entering sleep mode, or being woken up constantly, while the screen is off. If you feel several hours of screen time consecutively is normal with battery drain and that battery drains more than expected while the screen is off (talking <1%/hour generally), try BetterBatteryStats and see if you can find out what might be keeping your phone awake.

I lost 10% in 10 hours with smart ass compared to the 1% with Lion heart in 10 hours while idling.... That's a significant difference. I didn't know it takes more than one time after calibrating the battery. I'll wait a few more days and then try some more things.

While idling the phone should be in the SLEEP state. The processor is not powered, meaning the governor and io scheduler mean nothing at all. If you do get these results, i'd be looking for what the hell is keeping your phone awake. Despite the 1% likely being lying to you over 10 hours, especially at 90%+

I don't have money on my Google Account now so I cent get the app ... Looking at my battery every hour I spend on screen lowers my battery by about 23-25% (with data constantly on). In theory I can get 4 hours of on-screen time now. I still have to test idling. Seems like things got a little better since I supercharged it....

Thank you . At first I did t see the attachment in the thread. I'll be checking the app now. Will report findings
I'm not entirely sure what caused the problem because nothing was too out of place in betterbatterystats but right now I have over 4 hours of on screen time. And I went to bed with it at 6% and woke up with it at 9% 8 hours later. So problem solved? I did disable my clock app and disabled the setting to automatically update with network. Now my clock in the status bar won't update (unless I rotate mt phone) but I hope to fix that with a reboot. Aside from that all is well

[Q] (AMOLED + Black + Color) Red V.S. Blue - Battery

I'm here with my Nexus S that has AMOLED screen tech. Now it is common knowledge that inverted apps (the black) saves a lot of juice. It's also known that reds are the second best (to black) for battery saving.
Recently I've switched to a red and black theme to try and save the MOST battery possible. Truthfully I'm starting to miss the blue and black, but saving battery is more important to me. Well... If I'm saving 'a lot' more battery that is.
I was running a blue and black theme, before a red and black theme. I'm kind of not sure what to do now. Go back to blue and black, which saves battery and looks nicer (to me), or stay on red and black and save A LOT (supposedly) more battery?
So my question to you is... Do reds really save that* much more battery than blues? Would I notice a large difference in battery life (a reduction) if I went back to blue and black?

There is a negligible difference between any single color on a samoled. The only time you will see a noticeable difference in power consumption is between white (all colors on at once) and black (no colors).
I don't think I have your answer, but for LCD i9020 ones what colors help with battery?
Sent from my Crespo using xda app-developers app
Depends on your brightness. If you don't feel it makes that much difference then just go with what is more aesthetically appealing.
@063_XOBX: There is a large difference between reds, greens and blues in comparison to blacks in AMOLEDs. See here and here.
@g1user101: No differece whatsoever. The only thing that uses noticeable power in LCDs is the backlight (brightness), which is uniform across the screen at all times while it is on.

Not very much and likely not noticeable. It'll begin saving drastically more at higher brightnesses (i'd say 25%+ for easily noticeable results).
edit: also, if it only replaces the blues (switches, clock and tick boxes? little else)it won't change much at all. For any worthwhile difference, you'd also want to be changing the colour of white text. Even so, the processor would probably be using more power than the screen if you're using a typical black/xx theme at <10% brightness.

[HELP!!] Nexus S Screen 'Broken' Colors?!

Okay so... I had left my phone idling while I went to shower and I turned on my screen and then ... BAM! The colors became extremely over saturated and just wrong. It is not Voodoo, because the problem persists even during the boot and in CWM. I cannot describe it that well but to anyone using a phone you would know that something is wrong. Did I break my phone screen's color? It has never done this before. I have no idea what is happening.
I'm realising now the screen gamma hacks isn't working. If I change the value nothing happens. The RGB multipliers work. I've tried changing kernels already.

Paranoid (1.97a - 4.1.1)
Air Kernel (Week 171 - Voodoo)
SmartassV2 (800/200)
Deep Idle (On - Deadline)
Black Exodus (Inverted apps)
The colors have gone from totally over saturated to "stock" colors now. It seems Voodoo is destroyed on my phone... In CWM the colors are still overly saturated.
I'm going to leave my colors as default 2.3.3 colors for a little while then try and use Voodoo again.
For now, has anyone experienced this and what can I do to fix it?
Okay... Now a new problem is introduced. I was backing up my apps with Astro (as I ALWAYS do) and the process kept going down (in %). It would go up then go down, at a really rapid rate. I have no idea what is going on. It took 20 minutes to backup what takes 5 minutes. So I'm guessing this is an SD issue...? I have no idea what is happening. It just finished backing up and is continuing to say "Loading packages".
I'm going to flash a new ROM and kernel... We'll see what that does.
Tried flashing a new ROM + Kernel and restoring from a NANDROID, NOTHING is working. Can somebody please help me.....................

.......
My phone is also experiencing heating up fast.Typically my phone would average and normalize at 32 degrees. It now normalizes at 38 degrees...... It gets a lot hotter a lot faster.
I recently repaired my phone screen at Pacific Mall. So I'm wondering if they messed something up in here. Also I've been running a custom Voodoo colors that has the gamma hacls at -59. I'm wondering if that could have destroyed my phone screen.
Even if it did that wouldn't explain the other two issues that just emerged.
I am reaching a conclusion that my screen has been "burnt in". I don't want to say its unfixable yet because this literally happened after I turned my screen on from my phone idling. Its getting slightly worse all day but I have Voodoo settings off. So I'm going to try and let my phone die and leave it off for a little while I guess....
PLEASE ANY INPUT OR SUGGESTIONS ANYTHING USEFUL you can say would be greatly appreciated........ I'm not going to be able to get another phone for 2 years... I really need to fix this.

I tried the tester, I don't think the phone has burn in now. But something is wrong. I really don't think reinstalling everything is going to fix it. I think its this cheap screen Pacific Mall gave me.
I've figured out a better way to describe it. The screen gets way too saturated and is VERY pixelated while showing black and whites.

I don't think burn in is the proper term. I think that's when an image stays on the screen. This more or less definitely sounds a cheap screen. I have no experience with any of it, but please provide a pic, OP. Hopefully somebody can help. Even if you did get it repaired, you need to check your receipt/ their policy for this stuff. Return it to stock and work from there.

Your Nexus is fscked. Seriously, if the colors are all messed in cwm, there's not much we can do. I believe there's 2 different oled panels for the Nexus S, both with digitizer integrated obviously. I recall reading about someone complaint about getting the non fitting one. Besides, have you done the install yourself? Are you sure everything is properly installed? IIRC the person touchscreen didn't work right either with the "wrong" panel.

I don't have a choice. I just paid for a screen replacement to be given a defective one in place. I can't complain to the people who did it because they're in Pacific Mall, if you're in Canada you'll know that's a waste of time. I have no money and I'm looking for a first job. When/if I get one rather than pah another $120-240 I'm just going to buy a gnex. So I'm stuck with this for however long. Its a pain but I have no choice... I tried a factory reset, tried sticking with no voodoo colors for a week, tried changing ROMs, tried unrootinf and returning to stock then back again.. Nothing works.

[Q] How Much Could I Make?

Hiyas!
So I'm trying to save money for the LGnex. To do so I basically have to stop laying my phone bill for 6-8 months... That's going to take too long and I can't go phoneless that long. I'm starting to sell things and looking for a first job (with no luck for the past 6 months).
Back into the selling aspect...
I'm considering selling my NS. But.... there is a problem. Many actually.
The phone is nowhere no good shape anymore.
Problems? The phone is dead in about 5-12% of the screen (portrait typing does not work because Y H and B are not clickable, scrolling is a hassle sometimes, and some games are difficult to play), there is a small crack in the corner, the piece of glass over the speaker is duct tapes into the phone (or else it'll fall out), and the colors are 'broken' (they do not display properly at all, blacks whites and reds should neber be put together, and it is over saturated).
As you can see there are quite a few problems...
however, the phone is still usable. I've been using it for about 3 months like this now. You can still flash ROMs, listen to music, play some* games, and use it for development and what not. Landscape typing works fine, as long as you don't soley use black, white, and red colors may seem a bit bright but that's about it.
So at the same time it's still usable.
The question is, how much can I make from it?
Also, who should I market it to, what should I say, and where to sell it (in person trade), I know about craigslist, I'm in Toronto.
Thanks!

I guess nobody will buy your phone in this shape, but if you try to sell it for spare parts, I guess you can make about $50-$75.
My estimate is about $50, but it will also take a long time to sell too.
You should be able to find a part time job with the holiday season upon us?

I'll pay you $25 if you can port the Touchwiz email/exchange app over to an AOSP ROM (like Strawberry) , and put it in a flashable zip.

Do you mean just for the ZIP (as in you do not want to buy the phone)?
I could look into that, but today is my last day with having the phone, the bill is due tomorrow. I rarely use my computer so it would take a very long time to get done and I'm honestly not the best with development for Android .

I need an email app that allows for peak/off-peak syncing for Exchange accounts. K-9 doesn't support Exchange 2010, and Touchdown is ugly. The Touchwiz app is perfect, except I can't seem to get the system to recognize it when I put it in system/apps. I figured paying you $25 to do it would get you closer to your dream phone...

Wheatley (Screen Off) (400/100)
Deep Idle (N/A - Deadline)

Black Exodus (Stock Voltage)
Well, I'd figure it was something that would help both of us out.

Ah, I see. Have you entered the right permissions after moving the app? And where did you pull the APK from?

Yes - I've change the permissions to match the original APK, and I pulled it from a TW ROM. When I reboot the phone, no email app shows as available.

Tell me the exact permissions you used.
If that doesn't do it, you're missing something in the actual software.
