[Q] Building a ROM only for HTC Sensation - HTC Sensation

Hi there,
I'm new here and I have a couple of questions.
My first question is how do I build a ROM from an existing base such as OrDroid or Virtuous Inquisition? Or even better, from the source?
Second question is, if I am running Windows, do I have to use Linux? Because I don't have a Linux laptop or computer since I run Windows for all my student work but can I use Windows instead of Linux? Or is it mandatory to use Linux?
Third, is there a program that simplifies the process of making a ROM?
And finally.....
Is there a way of making it so that it only works on the HTC Sensation 4G from T-Mobile in the USA?
If ANYBODY can give me a good answer on how to do this, I would greatly appreciate it, and possibly (hopefully if I have money in my card lol) give a donation. That's for you devs! No promises about the donation though. But I will give a donation ASAP if someone gives me a good answer.

Can't build sense ROM's from source because HTC don't release ROM source. Can only build AOSP, AOKP ROM's with source code.
To build a sense ROM you extract rom.zip from the RUU and use dsixda kitchen to mod/tweaks it then build. That is the basics on how to do it with dsixda kitchen but some chefs don't really use dsixda kitchen and prefer to do things manually.

I want to build a AOSP for the Sensation. Where do I start? I haven't found anything on XDA or Google. Can you help me? I am really trying to learn how to develop.

Are you looking to compile from source, or just KANG someone's ROM and play with it to fit your customizations?

If compiling from source, here is a good guide for ICS:

[CLOSED] Kernel devs needed

Hello all,
I am benjamingwynn. I am currently working on a sense 3.5 ROM for the HTC Wildfire S and HTC Salsa and ran into a problem...
The kernel on the Salsa cannot or won't work on Sense 3.5 ROMS.
This is where I need a kernel dev who is looking for a small challenge to help modify the existing kernel for the salsa to run sense 3.5.
If you are looking for a real challenge then overclocking is also a possibility, but not something we need.
I have little experience with kernel development but am a fast learner as

Ain't this General
@OP, what exactly happens?
Stuck on the bootloader?
Also, are you porting a newer Android version and using an old kernel? - e.g. you had froyo, the rom you are porting is gingerbread and you are using the froyo kernel
Also, if you manage to get logcat/ dmesg - it'ld help
And post the kernel here.

New To Sensation Development So...

Hey guys I just picked myself up a Sensation 4G (Not new to Android Dev.) so I was thinking about creating,my own custom rom but wasn't sure what the Sensation guys like in their roms. I came from the Huawei u8150 were getting CM9 to run without a gpu was a move from the lord. So far I have tried Stock, Insert Coin, and Android Revolution roms all were great but I like a little cyanogenmod in my life. Would you guys like a new CM9 build crossed with a few tweaks of mean and fixes I find. Is so vote for it. Also reply with what you, look for in a rom.
C'Mon Guys I need feedback
At least vote, i would prefer comments but 1 peanut is better than no peanuts

I will start the rom today and if all goes well, I can have an early release out by Saturday. At first it will probably be stock cm9 with a few tweaks but then I will see what I can do about theming.
A CM9 ROM will be awesome. Are you going to try to get it working by yourself? You could get together with the open sensation project guys and make more progress that way. Just a thought

Welcome to the Sensation boards, and thanks for asking for input. I'm not a sense hater by any means, but I ALWAYS go back to AOSP roms. CM9 and Open Sensation are compiled nicely, but for some reason make my phone heat.
So, any build compiled from source would be welcomed. Each phone is different, hopefully your build keeps mah phone cool.
AOSP ROM with a Sense Camera would be loved by many, I am sure.

Yea I thought about speaking to them about it but I figured since I am newer to the phone I could try to mess with it a little myself before I go messing with other peoples work.
There seems to be a good number of sense roms and cm9 roms out there... why not try something kinda out there?
like a port of an xperia rom (I think Xperia S has the same chipset) or samsung's? (I know there's an xperia-ish rom out there but i think it's just aokp with xperia mods and I think that Sony's UIX is pretty good and not bloaty).
just thinking out there... porting something like that might be too much.
i have already begun working on rom but i'll keep it in mind. thanks for the idea
Cyanide X

sweep2wake on ROM SmartDroidBerserk |AOSP DummyPlug 2.3

Hi lads, my htc sensation is actually running that ROM, i would ask if i can flash a kernel with sweep2wake activated like the sebastian one.
Thanks in advance!
Ask chef of ur ROM.

Read the developers page and see which kernels are suited for you're Rom. If it's aosp I believe you need the kernel for aosp. Take a look and see the recommendations and this way you know which are available for you to try. If your stumped and can't find any recommendations post on the developers site and I'm sure the users there will know which is best suited for that particular Rom . They all use that Rom so you will be able to get a more clear answer from the developers forum . I really hope this helps you out and I wish you the best!

as i'm newer to thi forum i can't post in the rom thread, that's why i had to post it here! so i will try to contact the developer! thanks for your hel lads!

Testers for custom 3.0.16 kernel?

Hey guys. I was wondering if I can get a couple testers for my team's kernel for the Desire S. We would test ourselves, but none of us have the device
Either post in the the thread or PM me if interested.
I'll close this when I get enough testers or i release. One of the two.

[Q] Standard Google JB (4.2.2) Rom??

Is there a ROM out there for HTC Sensation that is JUST a Google Jellybean (4.2.2) ROM, no CM10/CM10.1, no kanged or sense ROMs. Just PURE straight-forward GOOGLE released ROM goodness?
Any help would be greatly appreciated.

You'll find both "pure" AOSP 4.2.2 and CM10.1 4.2.2 in the development section for sensation. I'm running the latter and it runs beautifully. Ostensibly, it's AOSP + a select few usability improvements. The differences between straight AOSP and CM10.1 are not nearly as pronounced as those between AOSP and their vendor specific counterparts. E.g. sense and touchwiz.

No there is no ROM made by Google for the Sensation.
GOOGLE supports only the Nexus directly.
All other ROMs mentioned here are based on the Google source code.

That's all i want, a pure Google ROM, compiled by a genius, that will work on Sensation. I'd just like to experience it out of the box, also a bit fed up of "PURE" ROMs then finding out they are CM10 :/3
But CM is in this way pure Google. Ok better to say the ASOP ROMs
AOSP means a ROM built from the official, google-endorsed Android source,
with stock apps and widgets and all that implies.
This is what i'm using:

Running pretty well

yeah there are a lot of ROMs labelled as AOSP, but are actually CM10, which I perceive as an enhanced version. I use the ROM you highlight below at the moment, but just wondered how a PURE experience would be compared with the CM10 approach
Not so wrong, trying SuperXE 4.2.2 has mentioned!!!!

"Compiled by a genius"? I hope you weren't being serious with that statement. It's pretentious, and represents a fundamental misunderstanding of software development and compilation. One gigabyte of source code compiled by a "lowly" junior intern or XDA forums contributor is no different than that compiled by Steve Wozniak himself. The compiler doesn't know or care what the IQ of the person running the compiler command is. The resultant bits are binary equivalents. If you want the image to be compiled and supported by Google employees then your only choice is to buy a Google branded phone. If you have a sensation, there is no ROM that will be built and supported by Google.

To use an automotive analogy, building an Android ROM from source would be the rough equivalent of rebuilding an engine if you were to consider that developing the Android ROM and writing the source code for it would be the rough equivalent of designing the engine and fabricating the engine parts. The latter is definitely a much more complex process and would require significantly more time and engineering expertise. That isn't to say that rebuilding an engine is necessarily easy, it's just a much more practical endeavor for a single person to take on.
