Have you guys noticed games run smoother on stock? Is that just me or is everyone else saying that. Also is the 2.3.4 update worth it?

the 2.3.4 update is very nice for me. Super smooth. Better battery. GPS is better. Only downside is flashing custom roms wwill result in static calls

Are you sure it's that easy?
Are you on the new baseband but on anything other than 2.3.4 and your calls work?
I think gaming will be effected more by kernels than roms.
But no I haven't noticed that at all...

That's what everyone is saying. Most of the time if your RIL doesn't match the baseband you have issues.

This isnt the case with the OTA update. If you update your phone to 2.3.4 with the new March 2012 baseband, you can only use the OTA rom or a modified version of it, you cannot flash any other ROM to the phone other than these because it will just result in static calls because of the baseband. Its a compatibility issue with something in the ROM/or Kernel that is causing this issue.

http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1055591
that is for nexus s.
nothing more needs to be said. would never work
I guess no one has ever ported app's to other devices?
since it is really only the update to google talk we are interested in not the radio and other b.s.
apps yes, kernels (from complete different devices) no.
so the 2.3.4 rom is useless without the kernel
otherwise we would have 3.0 honeycomb ported from honeycomb devices, and then we would say screw 2.3.4
its more than just the gtalk. otherwise it would just be an app update!
not saying that it would work but, there is no kernel in that update.
we would need top modify it EG: take out the radio.

Unless you installed a front facing camera on your galaxy s, 2.3.4 would be pointless (even if it was possible). Stick with 2.3.3 for now. I hear some very un-official rumors about 2.4 coming late this year or mid next year.

it will be available shortly, don't worry about getting OTA.

LG hasn't released the 2.3.3 source so no custom kernels exist.
Would it be reasonable to assume that since the old kernel works with 2.3.3 (they didn't update it at all), a modified kernel such as faux's would work with it as well?
I was thinking that as well
Sent from my LG-P999 using XDA App
try it and let us know how it goes. i think i read a post by faux that said that your usb would likely not work because they changed the way that was implemented between froyo and gb

The biggest difference between Froyo and Gingerbread is the USB Gadget code as far as kernel is concerned. So without Official GB source code, this kernel will break USB if you loaded to the GB ROM. If you don't care about the USB, then I guess it would be OK.

well there is a whole rom in there, the modem would effect data gps and reception and call quality. the rom may make a good base for a custom froyo rom. who knows.
I just wonder why they are still building froyo roms if rogers already has gb? seems odd unless this is really old.

I would assume no one would want that rom because we have gingerbread, but the modem might help with gps, call reception and data speed for current gingerbread rom.
Can anyone please bundle the modem here into a CWM flashable zip.

Quite a few people like their phone to just "work"; You know, camera, video acceleration, 4G, little things like that...
There are a few reasons to still be on froyo. Gimped video recording and no hdmi (though not a problem for most) being a couple. Personally I'm back on froyo for now until gb gets official for att.

Yeah I know what you mean, but that is stock rom which is slow and buggy and I don't think any developer would take their time to modify it when the official gingerbread rom should be around the corner.
