I just dont get it . when looking at XDA "ONE XL battery test vs Htc one battery" , XL get like 30% more screen time on Average and in Andatech too .
With that in mind , some other reviewrs are saying there no different's in bettery consumption . like this one on Slashgear
"LTE has a tendency to consume battery in short order, though on the flip side there are fewer cores in the AT&T One X to power. Overall, then, runtimes for the Tegra 3 and S4 versions are roughly on a par, we found."
So how come some claim HTC ONE XL have about 30% better battery while other say its the same as stand htc one X ?

Some reviewers do better tests that others? I would trust AandTech, they're very thorough and have a good reputation.

The XL variant out performs the X hands down.
hours of use per WH (efficiency) places this device at the TOP of all android phones.
I am on LTE all day and night.
When I had the skyrocket, it was dead in 4 hours or so.
The One X has last me all day with still 37% left.
Again, I am on LTE the entire time! I bet 3G will last so much longer. Which is why it's rated better than the international.
This phone has absolutely incredible battery life. I'm blown away.

12 Hours?
I have been constantly getting about 11 hours and 30 minutes of battery life. I have emails downloading constantly, I mess with the camera off and on, browse the web a bit for about an hour. Screen on time says 1 hour and 30 minutes at minimal brightness.
Does this look accurate or is this pretty bad for the ONE X???
I just switched from Verizon & a galaxy nexus and that phone has amazing dev support. Fully optimized I never got more than 2 1/2 to 3 hours screen on time. As of right now, I'm at 3 1/2 hours screen on, with 53% left. I'm in heaven lol...

I usually get 2hrs< screen time and it lasts me throughout the day on LTE the whole time.... I'm also web browsing, listening to google music, and on facebook a lot too. By the end of the day I'm at about 15-20% at 13 hours of usage or more

Hey try using juice defender or current widget to exceed your current battery life. Both control which apps that are eating up your battery. Kills the non needed ones.
Sent from my HTC Desire HD using XDA App
i've seen all the complaints about battery life but i must say mine is more than adequate. maybe because for the first 4 days i had the phone, after charging it for 10+hrs, i ran the battery all the way to 0 (til it shutdown), recharged to full, then drained it again.
it was my old habit from my nokia days.
Yeah, to be honest, this is equal to or better than the battery life I was getting with my Captivate. I can tell you with an absolute certainty that the battery did have to "break in" for a short period, after installing CM7.
Sent from my Desire HD using XDA App
Its deff better than captivate, 99% due to the screen. I got over 5 hours screen on time in a 16 hour period the other day with my rom/kernel combo with screen brightness at about 40-50%. That's pretty damn good, way better than the captivate could ever get
On my LG Ally i was lucky to get 6-8 hours with just light use. With the Inspire on cm7 i have gotten around 20ish hours with moderate to high use.
I'm still shocked that i am able to get that much battery life. lol
I'm still breaking my Captivate records. I took my phone off the charger @ 7:00am on Wednesday the 20th. I'm now at 15%.
What roms are you guys running. Im on coredroid 5.4. I get about 20 h with moderate use. I consider it to be pretty good. But no way can I get over like 30 h. I don't like to use juice defender or setcpu. Don't feel like I should use apps that override android os. Especially GB is so will optimized and efficient.
Sent from my Desire HD using XDA Premium App
I'm on CM7 and only wish I could get the battery you guys are talking about. I just went from 93% to 90% in a matter of minutes doing nothing on the phone. It was sitting on my desk!

Not at all. It's my personal and work cell, so I talk, text, surf, and play games what I would consider a moderate amount. I don't use a large overclock. I use the smart ass governor on Leedroid's most recent rom, and my screen brightness at 1/3.
There are days that I can put it tonthe test, but my first charge got me 35 hours with 5 hours awake time.
That's it? I got this a while ago and that's before I did some optimizations... I'm going to see what it can pull this weekend before it hits the 15% warning.
Apparently I can't add images until I get some more posts.

16 hours?!!
I just got mine 3 days ago and was considering taking it back because the battery only lasts about 5 hours before needing a charge!
I have about 1.5-2 days using it quite heavy. Bluetooth and 3g on.
I cant go a whole day without charging. its worse that im on android revolution. I havent flashed the recommemded radio as im on Bell and am afraid of bricking my device.
I also use Android revolution and couldn't last one day (from 6:30-19:00). I had my WIFI on all day.
In the office we have WIFI and I think it drains the battery very quick.
When I turn the WIFI off at the office, now have 20% left at 23:00!
Yeah, my drainage is terrible. With heavy use, I can squeeze out around 5 to 6 hours with WIFI or 3G on. I've read that some people get upto 12+ hours with heavy use!

For everyone who is going "OMG battery life sucks on the sensation" but before you go exchange phone, I will tell you that I was like that too.
Coming for the MyTouch 4G with Virtuous Unity to the Sensation 4G, I went from 24+ (of medium to heavy usage) to 5 hours (with light texting and BT, WIFI, mobile network, etc all OFF). Not realizing this before I rooted and unlocked the phone (I did it the night I got home), so I couldn't exchange it. I decided to tough it out b/c other that this it was a great phone.
Conclusion: The battery life of the Sensation DOES GET BETTER over time. I know this is counter-intuitive but it is very true with this phone. My recommendation is cycle the battery (100% to 0% to 100%, etc) a lot. In my past experience is only takes 3-5 cycles for the battery stats to do its thing but with the Sensation, it took more or less about 2 weeks to break the 12 hour mark (which is about 20-30 cycles).
Currently I get about 18+ hours (moderate to heavy usage).
Unplug at 8am when I wake up, about 6-7 hours of music/podcasts while I'm at work with light web browser (2G b/c that's all i get in the office) and light texting, wifi on 6-8 hours, BT ~30mins (in car), 2-3 hours call

So I've updated my phone to the latest trickdroid 6.2.0 for the TMOUS version, and using it for the psat 3 days, I've realized how bad the battery life is. I only turn on my data when I need it, maybe 20-30min max per day. I text occasionally, and by 6pm in the evening, it needs another charge from the morning. ATM it is 36%, with 11hours on battery, which is pretty bad, screen is at 51%, cell standby 23%. I mean I'm not even using the phone much. What can I do to fix this, I also have Juice Defender installed and it seems without it, my battery would be dead within 6 hours.
That's decent for this phone. Try CM10 and see if you make it to lunch.

What's OP's on screen time? It's hard to judge only by standby time but screen time does give a good indication.

I currenlty own a T Mobile USA branded One S (black in color) and one of the very first things I noticed was, the battery life was significantly less than my international One X. On average, I would have close to 15 hours with my One X (approx 4 hours of screen on time). My One S gets about half of that. I've been able to drain the battery (completely depleted from 100% down to 10%) in about 6 hours with the same exact usage pattern as my One X.
Weather, Twitter, FB updating every hour, email (2 accounts) every 15 mins, lot's of YouTube, Web browsing, texting quite frequently. I was actually surprised with my One S. On average, I get nearly 10 hours (give or take an hour) with approx 2 hours of screen on time.
Interesting to compare and see what other's are experiencing.
Best.
i have about 5 hrs of screen time and my phone running for almost 37 hrs. with 1 hr temple run, 2hrs music, 40-50 msgs and 30mins wifi ...!! seems pretty ok to me !
Wow! Very nice...
Custom rom or?
I have nice battery life on stock and all custom ROM. OP: have you researched what a wake lock is and how to interpret the battery info in settings? Do you have the S4 or S3 One S?
As to the difference compared to One X, the One S will fare much worse when displaying white and bright colors because of the AMOLED, but besides that in theory be a bit better all round.
Edit: I see you have the TMOUS so I assume S4. Also 21% seems high for cell standby, are you in a bad coverage location?

thinking about getting my battery swapped if VZW lets me (have had the phone since 7/10).. if not, then get a new one. but before i go into the store, i wanted to see if you guys think this is normal battery life from these screenshots. i have GPS off, Google location on, and only my Google account (Gmail, contacts, calendar) is in sync. i'm running a rooted stock rom (debloated VZW and Samsung apps by me).
in addition, the back of my phone gets really hot during regular data use (web, Facebook, Instagram, Engadget and Verge apps, ESPN, etc.. no games), to the point where it's uncomfortable to hold. i've heard that there might be a batch of bad batteries for the earlier shipments, so i was wondering if mine might be one of them. thanks for any input.

Do you have 4G on at all times? I think my battery might be pretty bad too...I've been losing 10% every hour, so my phone pretty much lasts only 10-12 hours. I'm impressed by your 1 day battery life. Even if I have wifi only on and turn 4g off, I still only get 10% every hour. I think something might be wrong with my battery...I've factory reset it many times before too, wiping cache, and dalviks, I'm now on the stripped rooted stock.
that's not bad battery life. Especially sense it looks like you are not in great coverage area.

After using the Chrome app for 30 minutes straight, my phone doesn't get noticeably hot. I've also used the Engadget, Verge, and Facebook apps for 10+ minutes in a row, and it doesn't get hot. The only time I have seen it get hot is playing games and charging. Even then, it's not bad.
I would say you have a gold battery lol, I rarely even get 18 hours on my batter even when 12 hours of that is just standby/listening to music.

haven't had a proper measurement of the temp, but it feels like it does reach the upper 90s, and that's with light web browsing, so that's what worried me.
it's just that i see people who claim "heavy use" and get 4+ hours of screen time, which i found hard to believe, if they really are pushing the phone a lot, so i just thought maybe something's up with mine. thanks for all the input so far.
Looking at your battery consumption log, I'd say your battery life is pretty great.
Seeing as how your cell standby is 50%, you're either using a lot of 4G or you're in a crappy signal area. Or both. Haha.
Even if you buy a new battery, chances are that you won't get better battery life. Just charge the phone overnight and unplug in the morning. As a general rule of thumb, if you can squeeze 16 hours of usage out of your phone, you're doing pretty great.
yup, that seems pretty darn good to me. I get about the same 4G coverage as you with Verizon in my home 2-3 bars max (-100 to -120dBm), and I get ~14 hours before my phone is about to die. I also think I just use my phone a lot more than you lol. You only had 2.45 min of on screen time in a little over 1 day. I usually have close to that in the 12-14 hour days with my phone.
Agree with last two post...what else are you looking for looks good....
Should I ask for a new battery? 3 hours 30 minutes 30 min screen time and down to 67% battery.

I'm not either. High accuracy mode was on the whole time
Out (on LTE only, no Wifi) and about regular usage (web, news, maps/navigation) - 13%/hour ~7.6 hours SOT
Camera (because the camera is THAT great) + Google photos editing and uploading - 17-25%/hour ~ 4-6 hours SOT
At home on Wifi regular usage- 6-7%/hour ~ 15 hours SOT
So was doing some testing for battery life. Used it till it shut off just a few minutes ago. I had taken a screen shot at 1% about 5min before it powered down figuring it was close. I took the phone off the charger yesterday at about 6:30am. I am not sure why wifi shows as 0% but I have been on wifi most of the day. I really liked the old Android battery screens better that showed wifi and cellular signal strength data as well.
From my experience the SOT is not even the problem. How is the standby battery consumption? The thing is I get 10 hours SOT on my Moto Z Play if I do a lot. BUT if I use the phone only lightly I'll still don't get more than 2 days battery life even though you would expect much more.

Yeah I know but the thing is: compared to standby times of my iPhone 7 Plus the Pixel XL 1 standby was a joke.
I have installed basically the same apps on both devices. So I just hope that Android will finally catch up with Android 8, because up to now all Google initiatives to have better battery life were pretty bad.
That's why I would be interested to hear how this is going on the XL2.
