its disabled due to carrier restrictions?
Word is GW is disabled on the AT&T HOX because AT&T is invested in another payment platform, Isis.

Yet they're enabling GW on other devices. I understand that Isis will be out later. But it doesn't make sense for other devices to be able to use it

I'm not aware any other AT&T devices support GW. NFC hardware was totally disabled on GS2/GS2 Skyrocket/GNote. And the upcoming ICS firmware will enable NFC on those phones but not GW.

Just because at&t decided to use something else shouldn't restrict me from a service that's already available. There's been no word on Isis.

Fcc needs to step up and slap carries with fines for not allowing Ann open market. For the same reason Microsoft had to suggest other browsers. Fair play.

AFAIK, Sprint (and tmobile now?) are the only carriers that allow Google wallet.
I was really excited for a second because I was able to install Google Wallet on my phone. But then i quickly was let down when I launched the app and wouldn't let me use it

The point of this thread is that AT&T won't allow any of its phones to use GW. So, I don't see how an unlocked (or not as there is never an AT&T locked Nexus) Nexus has anything to do with it.
I have an international galaxy nexus, and use my google wallet all the time at Pete's and Jamba Juice.
Can't we just edit the build prop to change the carrier info/location?
is the Rogers One X able to use Google Wallet? If so, that would mean a custom ROM would grant us that ability...?

This might not happen anytime if you're on T-Mobile, though how they're going to implement this for the European models is unclear, so there's still a chance.
T-Mo will not agree to Google terms to use the Google Wallet ecosystem right now because they are developing their own payment system called "ISIS" - which is supposed to go to beta in Spring 2012 in a few places in the US.
Fingers crossed this gets worked out soon, but you didn't get any quick responses to your question because, honestly, nobody knows how this Google Wallet vs ISIS platform is going to play out.
I very much doubt we will get it (European nexus s). Because ics is just around the corner....

Actually Hayos,
It is more of AT&T disabled the feature of our phones, since they are in development of their own system for NFC, where as for each "swipe" they get a piece of the transaction. But true it does NOT have good enough security features for the system as of yet.
This has been discussed at length in the threads. The SIM card does not have a required secure element and therefore it will not work on the phone. AT&T won't upgrade your SIM card to one with the secure element because they want you to upgrade to a new phone that will eventually work with Google Wallet.
IT IS NOT GOING TO WORK ON THE SKYROCKET.

Carriers...
This is a move by the carriers to enforce their move to go with the ISIS Digital Wallet. I have a Google Wallet ID setup and use it for the Play Store, but Google had A LOT of issues with security early on that scared a lot of carriers and users away alike....
Of course, the carriers get a piece of the pie from ISIS and with Google Wallet they were bypassed... hence.... the inability to use our device on said networks.... Sucks but its the reality of it all...
BTW - there is an APK that floats around saying it will make it work with your Skyrocket...
I can't stress this enough... I HIGHLY DISCOURAGE YOU INSTALL AN APP THAT HAS ACCESS TO YOUR FINANCIAL INSTITUTION, INCLUDING GOOGLE WALLET (MODIFIED)
If you do, you are just asking for it... and besides.... it won't work....
Onward....

That's not entirely true. The reason your SIM works in the nexus is because the secure element is built into that phone. It is not built into the skyrocket, so we need the element put elsewhere...like a new SIM.

AT&T is offering a limited HTC One Developer Edition with unlocked bootloader and it is already available on pre-order. However, even if if you’ve decided to get the regular HTC One from AT&T and want to get its bootloader unlocked, there’s nothing to worry about.
http://blog.gsmarena.com/att-htc-one-bootloader-is-unlockable-via-htcdev/
official launch april 19th.
It's been discussed in the One forums. But apparently AT&T plans to close this door on launch day.
Before you get too excited, though, HTC's affirmed to us that AT&T's One will not be supported by the HTCdev unlock service, which will effectively render its bootloader untouchable.

In addition to the guarantee of being bootloader unlocked (as opposed to this game of maybe/maybe not for the AT&T version), the Dev Edition is also SIM unlocked, and free of AT&T bloat (unbranded version of the ROM) for the same unsubsidized price as the AT&T version (for those that aren't eligible for an upgrade yet).

Im probably going to get a T-Mobile version instead of dev edition. In a perfect world I could buy the dev edition 64gbyte version and flash a T-Mobile radio to enable all bands ever... But the dev version isn't even s-off (who does that, honestly)... So I'm opting for the T-Mobile version. LTE eats too much battery IMO.

Possibly. But the spec sheet for our model doesn't mention the T-Mobile compatibility we've seen so far. I wouldn't be even slightly surprised if HTC just used software/firmware to disable bands (or maybe not at all) in order to avoid making 5+ different pieces of hardware.
