My phone stopped reading SD cards and they're going to send me a replacement so I want to at LEAST flash the stock recovery but is this even possible without an SD card? or am I stuck?
i just found out you can flash recovery without an sdcard, using fastboot. you can grab a stock recovery image here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=17384145&postcount=7, then fastboot flash it. you might even manage to flash a stock system this way too!
Thank you very much!
wait I just realized, doesn't my phone need to be connected to my computer as a "drive"? My phone won't let me do that unless I have an SD card
No, not for fastboot. The USB access is purely for sending fastboot commands; your phone won't show up as an accessible drive on your PC while in fastboot USB mode.

Hi all, I was wandering if there is a way to install update.zip file contents(or the file itself) manually via adb. right now, my sapphire's sd card reader doesn't recognize any sd cards in recovery or normal mode, but in fastboot it does for some reason. so i want to flash hboot and downgrade the phone (in case it's a kernel issue or something), but since the one way I knew to flash hboot was from recovery and then through the sd i'm at my wit's end... anyone knows any commands or so?

Hi. Please please can anybody help me rescue my htc one s? I had rooted my phone and last night i tried to flash cyanogenmod 10 onto it. I tried several times but it kept getting stuck on the cyanogenmod splash screen. To cut a long story short, i have now wiped my phone of everything, rom and all. All i can do on my phone is access bootloader menu and recovery. I can not even mount my sd card. I have read that i need to flash the stock recovery to remount my sd card but i can not find a stock recovery file anywhere on the net. Can somebody point me in the right direction? also, can somebody please explain (in very simple terms!) if i can flash a new rom on my phone from bootloader or recovery? And if so, how? As i can not 'see' my phone when i connect it to my laptop, and as i cannot access sd card, i can not copy the rom zip file to the sd card and install from there! I am well and truly stuck! Please could somebody help me save my phone??? Thanks in advance!
US or International? Need to give location info or CID to run the proper RUU.
Once you have the right RUU you have to connect phone in fastboot usb mode, relock boot loader using adb command prompt type...fastboot oem lock. Then you simply run ruu file while phone is connected in fastboot usb mode. You will be back to stock and unrooted.
Here is link to all RUUs...http://www.filefactory.com/f/cf061f69b5bf7878/

I am in the UK. Thanks for the reply. Sorry to be such a noob, but i'm not sure what to do with the adb command part? Where do i type the command and what exactly do i type? I am in fastboot usb now.
Download this zip http://www.mediafire.com/?50baad8rykng2j0 credit to torxx @ http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1583427 and download http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2086156
Unzip and place the folder in C drive. Example: put all files c:\fastboot "folder"
In windows7, go to start-->Run and type cmd then right click on cmd and select run as admin
now follow this guide http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2086156
Thanks for the reply. I have managed to relock the bootloader (says that at top of bootloader screen) and i have now tried to run 2 different RUU files but both times it has stopped half way through saying it is not the correct version. How do i know which version i should use? My phone is a uk model which was not locked to a network when i bought it. Thanks.
You can try a goldcard method, or the PM66IMG or something else, dunno the name for the One S. Just search on how to bypass the CID check, or search for goldcard tutorials.
EDIT: sorry, didn't saw you don't have access to your sdcard. Do you have any other phone with an sd card slot? Or a sd OTG stick?
EDIT: sorry maybe that doesn't work, dunno if the one s has a sd card slot or not.

Unlock your bootloader (htcdev.com) and fastboot flash twrp recovery image..(rename the image "recovery" then place it in your fastboot directory. I use /android-sdk/platform-tools).don't do anything else posted. after you get to this point then follow links that cat gave you..if you want cm10 rom. You can mount your sd in that recovery. Your phone is not bricked
To flash the recovery after you download it (assuming you are unlocked at this point) place your phone in bootloader mode then select fastboot. Now in your command window type fastboot flash recovery recovery.img then press enter.. now reboot into recovery,.
In twrp recovery select MOUNT then select MOUNT USB STORAGE. Your sdcard should now be visible on your computer

If you still can't see your sd card after flashing custom recovery the sd card may be corrupted. In that case you could try following my post here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=36385593
But you would need root access for your phone so it may or may not work depending on how much of your phone you have wiped. You can access adb commands as well if your in twrp recovery.

Thanks so much for the advice so far, i'm really beginning to think I might actually save my phone! I have done what you said (ie unlocked bootloader, done the steps to remount sd card, re flashed twrp recovery) and have now mounted usb storage and it is visable on my laptop (running windows 8). What should I do now? I don't mind which rom I put on at this point, just as long as my phone works again. Stock or CM10 are both fine for me.
*UPDATE*
I placed the cm10 zip into the sdcard via laptop and then went into twrp recovery and chose install and clicked on the zip. Everything seemed to work but when I rebooted my phone gets stuck on the htc splash screen??

Looks like you have to flash boot.img seperately. Extract boot.img from ROM zip and fast boot flash it with adb command prompt.

Your One S is far from bricked if you can access bootloader and recovery.
EDIT INSERT: Re-unlock.
Just ADB push your ROM to the sd. (Don't worry about the sd mounting in recovery, it's not supposed to work)
Flash your rom's boot.img in fastboot.....and......well......done?
Let us know.
Thanks everybody so much, I now have my phone back!!!!! Such a relief! I have installed CM10 and I love the look of it. Just one last problem though and that is that I have no signal/service?? I looked on the net and could it be apn settings? Anybody know what I should do? Thanks.
Hyundai S800 ICS 4.0.3 8Gb memory 16 GB external sd.
I HAVE ADB COMMUNICATION. Power/vol boots to a blank screen. adb devices gives me device sn and recovery. I have no menu, just blank, back lit screen.
i can adb reboot and it tries to load os but hangs in splash screen.
adb reboot-recovery works and i can push files to sd card.
However, the really important fastboot commands requires bootloader which will not open. I also have a CWM nano backup on the external sdcard which might be of some use.
Question, am I wasting my time since I cannot get into bootloader?? Or is there a way to flash using adb in recovery?
This is a user created bricking via trying to flash custom rom.
i bought this to play with rather than brick my nexus 7. I would give it a B grade as it is a very good tablet for $150.
Thanks
Hello,
again i need help I have unlocked the bootloader on my Xoom, the i have flashed TWRP and downloaded a Rom and the Gapps. I copied the gapps onto the device and followed instructions which came with the rom. I was instructed to wipe "system" too which i did.
Of course that deleted the downloaded rom and gapps too. Now i have TWRP and was excited to mount USB storage and just copy over again the rom and gapps but unfortunately there is no mount as USB option.
What and how is the smartest way to go about it? I wanted to sideload over ADB but the device is not found. I have really tried everythin in my knowledge, hope someone can help
cheers
Come on guys, really need help here. My kids are killing me for the damn thing
I have same problem.......it's an issue of twrp !
Have you tried a micro sd card? (copy the rom and gapps there from a pc then put it in the Xoom, etc...)
Worst case, you should be able to grab the stock images http://forum.xda-developers.com/wiki/Motorola_Xoom and fastboot flash the device back to stock.
Have the same problem
dosada, could you solve the problem?
airesch, I tried to mount sd card but it is impossible. How can I return to stock without ADB because computer is not recognized?

Stock flash doesnt require adb, just fastboot mode. You may need to still install a driver, but if you can boot into recovery then the xoom should also be able to boot into fastboot mode and be recognized by a pc. If the instructions on the link I gave arent enough, I will see if I cant find something tomorrow when I am on a pc.

NOTE: This WILL erase everything remaining on the device. In the case of the above, I don't know that you have much choice, just be forewarned.
Lord AIO toolkit has all the tools you need (look at the second post if you need the Windows driver.) Extract both the stock image zip and the toolkit (unless you have the sdk, in which case as long as you can find fastboot.exe you should be fine,) to somewhere convenient. Install the windows driver if you never have before and reboot your pc.
1. Boot your Xoom in fastboot mode: Power+Vol+ until it says: Starting Fastboot protocol support (you may need to tap the Vol+ instead of holding it the whole time, my Xoom has always been a bit picky about the buttons.)
2. Connect the usb to the pc
3. In a Command prompt window, go into the extracted version of the toolkit above (or if you have the sdk, just go to where you have fastboot.exe from it)
4. Run the following commands (replacing the files at the end with the full extract path from your stock image zip extract)
fastboot flash boot boot.img
fastboot flash system system.img
fastboot flash recovery recovery.img
fastboot flash userdata userdata.img
fastboot erase cache
"fastboot reboot" if you want to stay unlocked or "fastboot oem lock" if you want to re-lock and follow the prompts. The Xoom will get OTA updates even if it's unlocked, so there should be no reason to re-lock unless you need to send it in for service.
The driver isn't what I used to use, but it *should* work, and the instructions should be correct as far as I can remember. As long as you don't flash the wrong image to the wrong place/run out of power during flashing/disconnect during a flash then none of this should permanently damage the hardware and should get you a working device again. It's just that it's been so long since I have personally done any of this that I have forgotten more than I ever knew .

Hey airesch, thank you for your support. I couldn´t follow yours suggestion because my xoom was not recognizing the PC or MAC. However I discovered that my sdcard was broken. When I´ve tried a new one with ZIP files inside it works perfectcly and I could return to my old room doing flah in the recovery mode of TWRP2.2.
It is important to note that my Xoom did not find .IMG files inside the card but only ZIP ones. Any way it worked perfectly and I hope this solution will serve to other in solving his/her problems.
Many thanks
Well, that works too, and that was closer to what I originally suggested (tho I didn't expect you had a bad sd card.)
And yes, recoveries generally don't support IMG files directly, you need to have a specially crafted zip to flash those in. IMG files directly are for fastboot/pc tool flashing.
Congrats on fixing it.
Hello everyone,
FINAL Edit:
The device is stuck in bootloader, I can get it into recovery mode, and I have twrp installed. I noticed that I can use the abd sideloader option, as well as abd in my command prompt on my computer. Is there any way to push a rom onto the internal storage? I've tried using an SD Card, but the TWRP will not recognize the card, therefore I cannot flash from it. IF you know a solution to either of these issues, It will be very much appreciated.
Thanks,
