Bricked My Kindle Fire - General Topics

I attempted to root a Kindle Fire Running 6.2.2 but was using a version on the Kindle Fire Utility to root 6.3. TWRP installed but now I'm stuck at the yellow triangle logo.
The biggest problem is my Window 7 laptop won't recognize the Fire when I plug it in with my USB cable. Therefore, none of the unbricking, KFU, or ABD utilities/commands are getting through to the device.
Has any one encountered this before?
(I've gotten stuck in a bootloop with TWRP before on another rooted Kindle Fire and that was easy to fix.) I don't know what to do when you laptop won't recoginize the Fire as a connected device.
I've rooted another Fire (though it was running 6.3) on this same laptop so the Kindle Fire drivers were installed.
I'd appreciate any help with this!!!

1) Unplug your kindle
2)

Click Start, point to All Programs, point to Accessories, and then click Command Prompt.
At a command prompt, type the following command , and then press ENTER:
set devmgr_show_nonpresent_devices=1
Type the following command a command prompt, and then press ENTER:
start devmgmt.msc

3) After you follow those steps, look for any android/adb devices and DELETE them from device manager
4) Re-plug your kindle fire usb into computer
5) Windows should now auto detect drivers (if you have windows 7) and you can use fastboot to reboot your device or flash files.

Thank you so much for your reply! I tried what you said.
I set my Device Manager to show hidden devices. "Android Phone" appears as a device. When I expand it, I see "Android ABD Interface". The Android Phone device displays for a few seconds and then disappears. I hear the Windows OS make a tone as it appears and disappears. If I shutdown the Kindle Fire and power it on again, the device manager does the same thing.
I should probably explain more how I bricked my Fire.
I tried to root it as I explained in my first post. It was unsuccessful. When I realized the Fire was runnning 6.2.2, I tried to upgrade the firmware to 6.3.1 from the Amazon site, thinking I'd do that and then run the rooting bat file again. I didn't think to uninstall any of the rooting software before trying the update because the root was unsuccessful.
The Fire started the update but stopped almost immediately and got stuck at the TWRP logo.
Is there any thing else I can try?

I bet you are stuck in fast boot. Can u see it when running fast boot devices? Search as this is common... happened to me. Just need to run a com,and to change default boot mode

Paulnsx,
Thanks for the reply.
Can you explain a little more about this >> "Can you see it when running fast boot devices"?
Where and how would I check for that? And, what is the command to change the default boot mode?
Sent from my Kindle Fire using xda premium

warranty
will Amazon replace it or is it obvious you attempted to unlock the tablet? I mean is there and indication on the boot screen?

Yes, it's obvious I was rooting it. To return it to Amazon (or the retailer in my case), I need to get it to boot normally, then reset it to the factory default.

Are you able to boot into the recovery? Also, you may be able to re install the drivers yourself. I know that I downloaded the KFU and it came with drivers and an unbrick app as well.

try the kindle fire section lots of good ppl to help and loads of info

I wish I could but as a junior member of xda, I'm not allowed to post there.
Sent from my Kindle Fire using xda premium

you should be able to post if its not in the dev section

You are right. I just tried (like you suggested) and my post went right up. Yeah!! Thanks for explaining this!!

I just want it back to the original status and I get nothing.... I've been at this for 3 hours and it still won't read my kindle
Update: Finally got the usb to read and everything is recovered.

[Q] yes I BRICKED my Kindle Fire please help!!

i was rooting my kindle fire and i missed a step. installing "firefirefire" My kindle wont get recognized by the computer. I ran the kindle fire unbrick utility but even though it detects and cleans out data and so forth it wont load the stock OS onto the device. I've tried everything. i dont know what to do. I looked all over the internet for help but i cant find my situation online
When i boot up the kindle TWRP loads up after about 30 seconds. the kindle fire logo NEVER pops up. I'm so incredibly upset and seriously regret rooting
If i can do it agian successfully I will but i'd love some help in unbricking this thing. any help would be greatly appreciated. I will provide any information necessary.
This will work if your computer asks for a driver when you plug it in
1.Download kindle fire utility
2.Unzip kindle fire utility
3.To install the driver, its easy, just plug in your kindle, when it pops up with the install wizard say pick from the location of: KindleFireUtility>drivers>kindle 4.run kindle fire utility, select 1 then select 1 again
That's it, hope it helps

On my computer is dosent show the kindles drivers have been installed. if anyone has any advise plz help

I'm stuck in the same situation. From reading in other posts it seems our only option is to buy a factory cable and repair that way.

I was in this same situation.
To unbrick when adb does not detect it,
1. Plug in your kindle to the computer
2. Open a command prompt and navigate to your folder that has adb and fast boot in it
3. Type in "fastboot -i 0x1949 oem idme bootmode 4000" without quotations
4. When it says "waiting for device" turn off your kindle
5. Unplug it then plug it back in then it should detect the command!
If it worked remember to click thanks!

Try reflashing it with my tool, using unbrick feature, maybe you need fastboot drivers, just download it from sdk

If you can boot, you are not bricked - just start over with the root process using the correct image.
hey guys,
i have downloaded LAIOT but im not sure its detecting the pad, currently im getting

Try a diff USB cable - download drivers from MOTOROLA website get this file - MotoHelper_2.1.32_Driver_5.4.0.exe
Okay here we go....
first thing let your xoom stuck on M logo.
Then hold power+volume up.
while power up press volume down to get firstboot.(make sure your PC and xoom know each other.)
You will see some text firstboot bla bla bla on left, top of screen.
Second thing open window cmd.exe
then type ...
cd /AndroidSDK/tools (where ever your adb.exe is located)
fastboot flash boot boot.img (the right boot image)
fastboot flash system system.img
fastboot erase cache
fastboot reboot
wait for reboot. You should see splash screen and you smile on your face.

Glad you got it going!
Had a similar problem where I had a boot loop and adb didn't recognise my device, but I could still put it into fastboot or recovery with power + vol down.
What I did was boot the Xoom so that it was stuck at the Moto logo, connected to the PC and queued up the fastboot command (fastboot flash boot boot.img) so the command window said "Waiting for device...", then reset the Xoom and manually put it into fastboot again at which point it picked up the queued command and started flashing.

[Q] Help! Kindle Fire HD 7" Bricked!

Hey guys, I have just received a fastboot/factory cable a few hours ago and have been trying to unlock my Kindle Fire HD on the current Amazon Software.
The Kindle has been bricked for about two to three weeks and has been collecting dust.
I have had the Kindle replaced (refurbished from Amazon). Device was working for weeks fine on root. I wanted to put a custom ROM on the Kindle and I was putting the TWRP img on there and something went wrong, maybe the MD5 or something? Not too sure of all this technical stuff but I followed what RootJunky did on YouTube. Anyway when I turn on the Kindle it comes up with the orange Kindle Fire message and loops repeatedly.
I downloaded the KFHD_SRTv1.3.5 project to restore the img on my kindle hoping that was going to make the kindle new and usable again. (Not sure if it will I'm not that great at Android I'm a rookie) I put the ADB and Fastboot files in system32 as a page on XDA said to when the program said 'fastboot is not recognized' etc and now when I press 5 to check the fastboot status it is stuck on 'waiting for device' even though my kindle is in fastboot mode.
All help is appreciated and I have downloaded android sdk if that is needed, and I would like as much help as possible.
I accept this is my fault and accept that having a bricked kindle is the consequence so none of that thanks.

[Completed] Kindle Fire HD 7 bricked and only boots to fastboot.

I am visiting a member of my family and their Kindle Fire "Broke". It seems as if its bricked to fastboot mode only, as when you power it on, the kindle fire logo shows up and then very quickly swaps to the Fastboot logo. Im not too big on kindle stuff so so far I havent gotten anywhere and am having trouble. They wouldnt have rooted, enabled ADB, or done anything beyond vanilla kindle stuff. ADB wont recognize the device on my computer and nothing works on the device to get it into recovery or anything besides fastboot. I am using the stock cable but I have also tried multiple cables and USB ports and restarting computer and kindle. Not sure how to proceed as it seems like theres no way I can communicate with the device.

Soft Bricked Kindle Fire Hdx

Hi Everyone, can you kindly help me regarding this. I was recommended to ask for assistance from @ggow @draxie or @Davey126
I just was able to root my Kindle Thor and open up google play store yesterday, thanks to the help of Yousucks2, see belows Posts 83 to 90 of page 9
https://forum.xda-developers.com/ki...artially-fire-os-to-proper-rom-t3421623/page9
My problem started on page 10 from Posts 91 to 94 (which I will summarize here)
https://forum.xda-developers.com/ki...rtially-fire-os-to-proper-rom-t3421623/page10
---- After rooting and being able to use Play store on my Kindle Fire Hdx 7 Thor, I was trying to access a game that was region locked, I tried several things and apps like VPN changer, then it led me to this app, Region Changer that was asking for root access, which I allowed. It was a last ditch effort and I shouldn't have used it and I should have just given up trying to access that game.
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=tw.TigerHuang.RegionChanger&hl=en
After using the app and allowing root access, I chose korean and while it was changing my settings to korean (I thought I could just change it back to English later, after I'm able to access the game) It froze my kindle for 5 minutes and I couldn't move anything, so i rebooted my device.
Kindle stuck at Kindle Fire logo with the “Kindle” word being white and “Fire” word being orange.
According to yousucks "Looks you soft bricked the tablet, the root access you allowed, probably change it some UI elements, and thats why the OS refuse to starts and stays on a loop"
I recommend you ask for assistance to @ggow @draxie or @Davey126 , they have high tech tknowledge levels to help you in this case , but you need explain what you did exactly ,and have the necessary tools and knowledge to apply the procedure (if be possible)
Open a new thrad asking for asistance.
Can someone help me or walk me through the procedures of unbricking this tablet, i remember doing Adb some time ago when modding my Fire Stick Tv.
Any help will highly be appreciated, Thank you.

Interestingly enough, it matters less how you got into this state,
than what we have to work with. And, your post is a bit short on
those details. I understand your device was rooted. Other than
that, I'm guessing that it was stock FireOS (locked bootloader, no
TWRP)? Can you confirm? If so, what version?
And, the most important question(s) of all: how does the device
show up when connected to your computer (via USB)? Does it
respond to adb commands?
Hi draxie, device was just rooted the other day and was running on fire os 4.5.5.3
I haven’t use any twrp on it
I still haven’t connected it to my computer via Usb since I’m awaiting instructions on how to access it using adb commands
I just read this

did you try to do a factory reset ?
i guess doing that must reset the values changed by the app.
When I couldn't shut down the kindle, and it was stuck on the logo for more than an hour, i tried holding the power button around 10 seconds, and that could have done a factory reset of the device?
I figured what was missing when adb wasn't listing devices when testing kindle 5 & 7, i was missing the usb drivers for the laptop to recognize the kindles, so i installed it and both kindle 5 & 7 were recognized when typing "adb devices" on command prompt
But it still doesn't recognize kindle fire hdx 7 thor, and when i type adb devices it shows "list of devices attached" only and I get a notification everytime I plug it says "USB device not recognized" and everytime I try to install driver it says driver is up to date
I read this post #19 on this thread
https://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2200750&page=2
"if your issue is not hardbrick, which mean that you tablet can power up and display something on the screen then you have a chance to get it fixed, just look for the thread here and you will find a way to fix it."
I hope there's still a way to make this work
VID/PID??

Nope.
Not that it would help, but FYI: stock recovery
can do a factory reset, but that normally only
wipes your user-specific data. And, from what
you described the issue is probably a botched
build.prop in your /system partition (which is
NOT touched by a factory reset).
If you like you could try to enter stock recovery
by fully powering off the device (hold the Power
button until the screen goes black). And, then
holding the Volume-Up button and pressing
(and holding) the Power button until the grey
Kindle Fire logo appears.

My point in doing factory reset was that: if the app changed only values in /data partition then this might allow you to boot up correctly
Rather than that you will have to flash stock frimware

Personally, I doubt that changes in /data would stall
the startup process at such an early stage, but if the
data on the device is of no significant value (and/or
backups were taken), then it may be worth a try to
see if a factory reset helps.
@-Hope-: could you HIDE or otherwise tone down

Hi Hope, Draxie,
Sorry I didn't get it about the VID/PID beyond device description lol know i understand went to plug the kindle and it wasn't as the same as before showing kindle on portable devices, this is what is showed
https://ibb.co/hp6wVR
Weird because it was showing kindle earlier, i tried to reboot device holding power button for 10 seconds and even rebooted PC, anyway since no kindle was shown on portable devices like before, i just got it from a pop up that showed regarding an unknown device when I plugged in the kindle
https://ibb.co/dbr24m
And there was no VID/PID I saw on the drop down list beyond device description
https://ibb.co/kg5OAR
https://ibb.co/dBVOAR
I doubt the kindle is the G because when I plugged the kindle earlier it showed G and Kindle separately
This was it earlier
https://ibb.co/hmHVPm
Regarding the G
https://ibb.co/dm3bVR
https://ibb.co/h6EiAR
https://ibb.co/fstX4m
https://ibb.co/bRsQPm
Is this the VID/PID below in between No connect sound and Class Long name
https://ibb.co/kxSs4m
I'm just checking so later when I'm able to go on the drop down list for the Kindle I got the correct values, the question is why is the kindle not showing on portable devices compared to now.
Also before I do a factory reset by:
fully powering off the device (hold the Power
button until the screen goes black). And, then
holding the Volume-Up button and pressing
(and holding) the Power button until the grey
Kindle Fire logo appears.
Is there a risk I may hard brick the device if I do a stock recovery? Or not really?
Also I know it's not the G:\ cause even when I unplug the kindle the G:\ is still showing
I'm still trying to make the kindle show in device manager in portable devices, will update you when it shows up there.
Also I just remembered - when I plugged in the kindle earlier to find it in device manager, there was no more battery, and while it was plugged in the USB it showed the red no battery sign, and while it was plugged in the USB port it charged the kindle and when it powered up it was then I saw it in the device manager
https://ibb.co/hmHVPm
But now even if I plug or unplug it, no kindle it showing on device manager
I probably should let the battery die and repeat the same thing, so I can get the VID/PID for the Kindle beyond the device description
Or should I do a factory reset now, no risk of hard brick?
