Problem with AT&T LTE and Speedtest - AT&T, Rogers HTC One X, Telstra One XL

I just got my new AT&T HTC One X today.
I am having a weird problem where 90% of the time I can't make it through a speedtest without it stopping prematurely. It will start and then just stops in the middle of the test. When this happens all the data on the phone stops working and I am forced to restart the phone to get it working again.
When I use all other apps the data will work with no problem but when I fire up the speedtest app and try it run it, it just freezes and stops working. Then all the data on the phone stops working again until i restart the phone.
Is anyone else seeing this same problem when on an LTE connection and trying to do a speedtest with this phone?

Maybe try changing the server?

It doesn't work on the international version either. Use this...

I have found that it works probably only about 40% of the time.
It is interesting to hear that it is a problem on the international version too. Seems to point that there might be a capability issues with Sense 4.0.

On what basis are you concluding that "speedtest" is a joke?

Works every time on my Rogers Version.

Now that more people have the AT&T HOX, has anyone else had problems using the speedtest app on LTE?

I just turned on forced GPU rendering in the developer options and I was able to run several speed tests when before it was failing a lot.
Can anyone else confirm that they are having the same problems with the speedtest app and not the website?

I just tried another speedtest and it choked again. I guess the forced GPU didn't fix the issue.

I'm not in an LTE area...damn att...but I hit 11mbps down and 1.5 up...not too shabby. I only got 3.5 down and 1 up with my sgs2. I'm happy...now we need this damn bootloader unlocked so the magic can really start.

I have been experiencing this as well, along with the wifi bug. I get a network connection error and the test stops. I also have been having trouble having the speedtest be able to find a server - it will take awhile trying to locate the closest server and then when it finally does, it usually isn't even close to me...

Me? nope... I used to get 6mbps down and 2mbps up
I think they are working on the towers here in my area.
I did notice the speeds are not 100% all the time, they jump from 2 - 6 Mbps depending on time of day / weather / and everything else but knowing the phone "can hit 6" makes me feel better about "when AT&T" gets everything going it *should* be pretty fast

[Q] Rogers One X - Dropping off network!!!

This is the second handset I've received and is now experiencing the same symptoms. With the phone sitting on my desk at work it drops the connection to the Rogers tower and sits in NO Service state.
Has anyone else experienced the same problems with their One-X?
Q.
Yep, I get this too. I'm quite sure it'll be fixed in an update, but in the meantime I have switch in and out of airplane mode to fix it.

Airplane mode doesn't do a thing for me to get it reconnected. I have to reboot the phone. I also still get the 'preparing SIM' message now and then. Others have attributed that to Sense and using another launcher either fixed it or covered up the message from being displayed.
I am curious if there is a hardware issue with intermittent contact with the SIM card.
Hey guys,
I got my HOX on Friday last week and I've rooted, unlocked the bootloader network unlocked it so I could use it with Bell. I haven't noted those symptoms being on the Bell Network. Could be worth to check with Rogers.
I had tons of connection issues on Rogers....until I disabled LTE. Now I get full bars all the time and never lose the network. I used to get 1-2 bars max on LTE and I would randomly lose connection completely. I think Rogers LTE network just sucks.

AWS has terrible wall penetration. This is why Wind Mobile and Mobilicity customers are always complaining about the terrible reception and dropped calls they get. Rogers uses the same frequency.
Sent from my HTC One X using Tapatalk 2
Interestingly enough, I'm not even on an LTE plan. Confirmed with Rogers today that I am still on my Captivate's 3G plan.
I never get the LTE in the notifications bar just 4G and my signal will go from full bars to nothing.
Another interesting observation -although it might have been coincidence, when I noticed I was in No Service I tapped the back of the phone like anyone would when frustrated and low and behold, it came back online!
The evidence of a hardware problem reading the SIM is growing.....2nd phone showing the same issue though ????, very odd.
Q.
I am using mine on att and I am experiencing the same issue.

i think the issue is the phone not reading the sim card properly. I'm the "preparing sim card" pop-up has something to do with it also

This is weird I have had my One X for about two weeks and have never experienced a signal drop I've always been one LTE or a maybe for a few hours when I drive out to 4G or something, but never an actual drop. Different WiFi problem?

My WiFi connection always says it's full but it takes longer than on 3g to load. I'm not even on hspa and it's faster than the WiFi. Yet when I do a speed test for the WiFi it's great. Anyone else have this problem or is this the same WiFi problem as before?

I get that alot, and it is truly annoying. I'm an android noob/apple convert and one of the biggest android quirks for me is that if wi-fi is "connected" the apps won't fall back to 4g if the wi-fi craps out. If i have 5 bars of 4G don't ****ing tell me I have no connection, use the 4G.

Exact same thing here.
I actually see my wifi bars go down to zero bars and come back up to full bars while browsing. I did a speed test and it slows the speed when it goes to zero or one bars. I tried to squeeze the phone between the camera and the volume rocker but it doesn't seem to fluctuate much by squeezing. Anybody else experience this? I'm on sick sense rom.

This is really starting to piss me off. I try loading a PhoneDog.com page and the loading bar just sits a 3/4 forever. After a long while it'll say something like connection timed out. I wish I knew if it was my router causing it or the phone. I'm thinking the phone because it did it in the previous one.

My youtube is touchy over 3G, might just be the connection but it'll play just fine unless I try to skip ahead.
Thanks KP.
I will try a different network today. Odd that the other androids in the house have no problem on the network. Thought it may have had something to do w the "officially unlocked" boot loader. But if no one else is having this problem it must be my network, or my phone. Maybe different protocols are used...?

[Q] Network upgraded to 4G but I only get H

hey there I/'m living in St. Kitts in the Caribbean.
LIME the network provider upgraded from EDGE to 4g on Friday, but I realise since then my phone is only showing H (3G) and not H+(4G).
i am wondering if this has anything to do with the rom i'm currently running (trickdroid) or not?
I was in the city centre friday night where they had the launch and pretty close to the cell tower so I know distance isn't the issue
Thanks for the help in advance
Most roms don't display the +. Its purely cosmetic. Only roms I know that display it are based on the inspire 3.20 version.
Again its purely cosmetic and does not effect speed. Heck the phone is only capable of 14mbs Max. I would say 3.5 g Max
Thanks for the response I was just wondering. Makes sense with what you are saying. And I just realise something I tried another Rom, it wasn't even loading so had to restor this on and realised that while booting up it went from E to 3G to H. But I don't think I'm getting even 2 mb from this will take a screen shot and post to you.thx again for the response.

Depending on what ROM you're using, I've found Speedtest to be somewhat unreliable for whatever reason. For example, I'm running Sabsa Prime 7.0. When I do a test on wifi, I get 15+mbps down and around 4mbps up with 30 ping. When I run it on 4g, I get 7kbps down and 2mbps up with 150 ping. Obviously my actual 4g speeds are not 7kbps. On ARHD with the same radio the test showed 6-8mbps down and 3.5mbps up with 70 ping.
In summary, unless you feel that your real use speed is really that slow, forget what Speedtest says.
Ok cool got you.
But I can tell it's really slow as well. I will try one of those other rims cause this one iy takes a while to switch to programs etc. And I don't have a lot running in the background. The only thing I've realise though is that I've not yet learned how to bring over my settings ( WiFi and apn etc even my contacts ) when going from one Rom.to the the next.

Actually...
If you edit your build.prop, faster speeds can be obtained.
Also H+ is 4G, but its not like LTE speeds or anywhere close. It is more like a couple mbs above 3G.
Speedtest is fine. Your data icon will sometimes lie to you. No joke. It'll say H+, but in reality it is 3G. All depends on your signal strength.
- hit my thanks button if i helped you -
Thanks, how do I edit my build?
I am not sure what's going on it is.very slow and I am wondering if the Rom is the problem wondering if I should go back to the original 4g Rom that came with the phone

You'll need an app like "Root Explorer". Through the app you navigate to "/system" and long press the "build.prop" and edit. You may encounter an error message with something like "file is in read-only" which then you will have to change the settings to "write only" or something like that to edit which can be done in the explorer app. Once you get that far you can edit the build.prop to your liking. For settings that people have found useful search the forums.
