The Battery Life Thread. - Samsung Galaxy S (4G Model)

OK I see a lot of posts about battery life recently, so here's a thread to discuss nothing but.
My battery life on unnamed ROM with antonxs original release kernel (as I have no desire for bln or native UV/OC) is below. I am UV'd at 1.2GHZ via tegrak.
And just for fun I'll include the best battery life I've ever seen.
Please include screenshot of display time, or it means nothing!

here's some I posted a while back. I usually get a little more than 2 days, but sometimes longer.

I was planning on posting my battery results in the 2300 mah battery thread within the SGS4G Accessories forum, seeing as I just recently purchased the Andida extended slim 2300 mah battery. However once I get the results from my first charge cycle I will update this post. In the mean time here are some screenshots from my battery as of now at 79%.

wow, ankr batteries... (must buy)!!!

hi guys,
I must say I'm very very very impressed with my aankr batteries I got from ebay.
with the stock battery, (lastest insertcoin rom)
battery would drain 7~8 % on light use.
bit better on cyanogen mod but prefer Sense over anything else.
got 2 ankrs yesterday
fully charged (first cycle)
battery drain is significantly better.
2% per hour on light use ( some music, podcasts, as before with the stock battery)
I think everyone should get one of these.
Already a thread...
Sent from my HTC Sensation
I am thinking of picking one up myself shortly as i now have my CPU running at 1.5GHz funny enough i have not noticed much of a drain battery life wise but still struggle with a full days use.
From Sensation Accessories Forum: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1128568
srry it was an repost.
i was just too excited with the result.
8-4pm i have about 40%left
(with stock battery it went down to 15~20%)
since it's my first charge, it will only get better
Thanks and srry again for repost.
I think the anker batteries are the best thing to happen to the sensation, besides cm7 lol. But with the anker battery I can get 20 hours on a single charge, no BS, I have the screen shots, just don't know how to attach them in XDA app
Sent from my Sensation using XDA App
You can get way over 20 hours. I've had 30+ out of it loads of times. (with fairly light use obviously)
Sent from my brain
yeah I can.vouch for that ....I just got it nd just flashed the messy rom aosp rom and first charge lasted over 20 hours I'm on second cycle now and I'm over 23 hours and I believe at 35 % left ......not even using special kernel ....but I'm gona install new faux kernel and I'm hoping to get Even better life .....
Sent from my Sensation using XDA App
remember boys, to go through 4-5 charge/discharge cycles, like recommended by the instruction manual. it gets better after that.

[Question] BatteryLife increase?

I heard that the battery life will get better if i get my battery often down (0%) and then full loaded again
Can you give me information about ? True or lie?
Sent from my GT-I9003 using XDA App
Well, it is a well known good practice to let the phone switch off itself due to low battery and charging it completely while switched off. You can do this while sleeping at night; hence less chances of missing important calls. Though most of us cannot do this in real life; it is recommended for first 10 charge-discharge cycles of a new battery to ensure good life.
Why do you do unuseful posts in the developement area???? Didn't you see the f*****g q & a sticky above???
did you see that ive posted with the android app? because of that i didnt see sticky threads, sorry for that

i dont think frequently discharging to 0% is a good idea for battery life!!
just use the battery calibrator app from market and calibrate battery when voltage reaches around 4192mV
n if ur problem is solved then edit the thread topic to include [closed]
^^ Well in practice, the phone doesn't allow the battery to deep-discharge or 0% absolutely...
It is just the hype and worked for older battery type but we have lithium ion battery they don't work this way. I know there are so many members here who will against me in this thought but this is what I understand from so many forums.
One time battery calibration is good idea specially when you install custom rom and there is an app for it in market. It delete battery data when phone reached to 100%.
Realty is if you want good and longer battery life for lithium ion battery then charge frequently and best charging % range is 25 to 35% but not mandatory.

Yup. that's true. Also deleting battery stats when at 100% is not the final step. Make sure that the voltage is around 4190mV when at 100%. Max is 4200mV.
Read somewhere that due to miscalibration battery will be shown as 100% even though the peak voltage hasn't been reached yet.

[REVIEW] 1600mah batteries and charger

This is a quick little review of some 1600mah extended batteries for the desire HD. thees batteries where bought off of ebay from 2 different sellers, but both seem to be the same quaility and same manufacturer.
first of all, you can get these here
2x 1600mah extended battery with charger - LINK
1x 1600mah extended battery - LINK
So now for a bit of a review...
2x batteries and charger. - both batteries arrived relatively quickly, in a padded envolope. with there free shipping it was a little bit less than a week. came it great condition.
1x battery - paid $5 extra for expedited shipping, arrived in 2 days. works perfectly
Battery performance - all of the batteries have around the same performance. the ones with the charger have slightly less battery life but it is still better than the stock 1230mah. i can now easily go a full day of browsing the web and playing games without recharging. although, i dont like my batteries getting too low, cuz i know if they fully discharge it can be bad for them so at 20% i swap the one ive been using for one that ive charged overnight. the way i have it set up, i always will hae a battery fully charged. i have one in the phone and one in the charger overnight. wake up take both and put the other extended in the charger while i am gone. come back and before i go to sleep i swap again. they all get used equally then.
One problem that i have seen though, is that sometimes when i reboot or swap them out, when the phone starts up, it says there is 0% battery left. it is usually fixable by a quick wipe of the battery stats in recovery. has only happened to me in aosp roms though, sense runs fine.
overall, id give them a 4/5 rating because of the low cost and quality, but also because of that glitch(although it could just be software related)
pics up soon to show exact battery life and the batteries themselves
Okey n1 review. Perhaps i will get one of those batteries hate to charge all the time

I would love to see some stats/screenshots of Battery Monitor Widget just so that we can see what you mean by saying that you are browsing and playing games all day.
When i'm using my phone with the screen on all the time then i've got a drain of 1% per 5 minutes. That gives me a bit more than 8 hours before the phone is dead.
On the other hand the maximum standby time is a bit more than 100 hours (1% per 60 minutes) or more than 4 days.
That said you could have really great battery life if you've got more than 2.5 hours of screen on time in one day or it's terrible because the screen on time is way below 2.5 hours.
That's allways based on the assumption that your battery is depleted after 24 hours. "a full day" could also be a work day meaning unplugged at 6 am and recharching at 6 pm.
/edit:
about that 0% glitch: I'm using an Evo3D Anker 1900mAh battery in my DHD and got the same problem. I also think that it's related to me using an aosp rom.
I actually have this one!!! ordered from dealextreme.com!
its working fine 1230 mah real size! there is no bigger batteris than 1300 mah!

There IS a battery that is more than 1300mAh, the Mugen 1500mAh. Search for it on this forum
There is also the Mugen skin that clips on and holds another 2000?mAh, but that is not entirely practical...

That's why you should stuff an Evo3D/Sensation battery in there
Those have 1500mAh or more (and really do!)

These batteries do hold more juice than the stock. I don't know why people are complaining about them. For $9 you get 2 batteries and a charger. Even if they where only the stock size, you can still swap them.

Problem is, these claims have no substance without numbers. Do you have any test results proving the battery life is greater over stock?

great....clicked the "thanks" button instead of the "quote" button....
anyway:
it doesn't matter if your phone isn't on for some time....just let Battery Monitor Widget run from 100% to 0% and then show us screenshots of the stats it gathered.
Thoughts about how well your batteries performed aren't needed. I bet you i could give you the exact same thoughts you have about your batteries only that the time from 100% to 0% differs by as much as a day....

Battery Monitor Widget:
It's in german so this is what it says in english:
(in the info bar at the top you can see that i had still got 31% charge)
- has been unplugged for 1 day and 2 hours
- has been used for 5h20m or 20%
- screen was on for 2h31m or 9%
- wifi was on for 2h03m or 7%
- bluetooth was on for 1h32m or 5%
It doesn't say anything about how much the gpu was used (for example there is no reliable way of telling how much the usage of opengl drains your battery...at least as far as i know).
But it still gives you better info about how i used my phone and how much you'd get if you were using the same battery.

Battery Calibration Question

Do I still need to calibrate the battery when using batteries that've been charged using my wall charger?
I'm switching between 2 1500mah batteries and 1 3500mah battery (which is probably really about 2200mah) on an every other day basis. Calibrating my battery would be such a pain in the a$$.
I'm running CM9 build 17 with Glitch B6 (although I'd figure that that doesn't really matter).
See this post - https://plus.google.com/u/0/105051985738280261832/posts/FV3LVtdVxPT
I think it is pretty much saying that battery calibrations are useless.
But it also couldn't hurt right?
Sent from my SGH-I897 using XDA
No you don't need to calibrate between batteries
I didnt when I changed a couple days ago from my almost 2yr old original battery with my new Anker 1800mAh. The life my phone got over the weekend was incredible!
You do still need to occasionally run the battery low (<5%), especially if you've had a series of unintended reboots or see the battery % drop suddenly. Not drain but skip numbers like:70% crash 55%.
leaked from my ICS- FUSED SGS I897 contaminating you via XDA app.
Thanks for the reply guys. So I guess that the answer comes down to: no.
Yay xD

yup, same size with the original. It felt a lot better, few hours longer battery life.
E.g. : if you just keep the phone idle for 5 hours, it sill 100% remain.

I bought this battery in 2011y on ebay that claimed to be 2450mAh but it was only 1400-1500mAh.
Original battery works for me (on JB ROM) around 18-24h, with this fake - around 20-26h.
Sry my english... =)
Buy batteries from a reputable dealer, too many counterfeit ones going around! I just bought mugen 3600 directly from mugen, it's been amazing! Highly recommend! It's worth the cost !
sent from HTC sensation, soff, 3.33 firmware, viper Rom, sense 4.1, mugen battery. please press thanks if I helped in anyway.
Just bought one in Spain from eBay too. 8.5 eur, free shipping. I'll discharge it first to 0( it came 70% charged), then I'll run nova battery tester benchmark and post results. The stock battery gave me 1420mah until the phone switched off at 1% on the long test of that app. Using pydx kernel, elegancia 5 rom.

How well does it perform compared to the Anker one? The most I've gotten out of my Anker so far is three and a half day, but that is without using it a lot. I find that it mostly depends on the ROM you're using tho, and due to that I prefer the sensless ROMs, because they seem to run a lot lighter than their Sense counterparts. But hey, that's my observation.

What's your screen on time?
Someone got 4 days, 2h40m screen and 45 min in call using anker battery.
Skipjacks said:
Okay I want to put this business about bad battery life and battery bugs and all that jazz to bed.
Look at my battery graph. I rest my case.
Any battery problems are not with the ROM. It's clearly capable of having disgustingly good battery life.
That's 4 DAYS since unplugging with 8% battery life left as of right now.
That includes 2 hours and 40 minutes of screen on time
45 minutes of phone talk time
This is on the April 26th build. And this is the FIRST charge since flashing that build. So the battery use probably isn't even maximized yet.
My settings are OnDemand 192 - 1242
Anker battery
Auto Brightness is off and I use the notification bar swipe to adjust brightness as needed
Alterations made to the Google Services Framework to eliminate Google Wakelocks (this has nothing to do with Albino's code, hence it's not the ROM) Click here for more details
Greenify to keep other wakelocky apps on a short leash. (I'm looking at you T Mobile's My Account app. You're so useful but you think you own the place!)
Haptic feedback is off for everything. The only thing that's allowed to use the vibration function is the ringer (I don't use a ringtone, vibrate only) and reminder notifications. If you have haptic feedback on for every press on the screen and keyboard you are basically giving up battery power to run a small electric motor. That's not an efficient use of limited battery life.
Full disclosure. I don't keep mobile data on all the time. I turn it on as needed. And I've been very busy doing other stuff the past 4 days so there hasn't been a ton of use time. Obviously if I had been using it more it wouldn't have lasted 4 days. But if the ROM can idle for 4 days and not drain itself dry, then battery problems aren't in the ROM. They are with apps, settings, or user error. Albino's ROM can be configured to run for what may as well be for freakin' ever on a single charge. I'm half expecting him to add "sustainable cold nuclear fusion" to the changelog of the next build.
So if you've got battery issues, go buy an Anker before you do anything else. Even if you have other problem that will make everything better. And stop talking about battery issues in this thread. Come to the FAQ thread (see link in my signature) and ask questions about how to improve battery life there. We'll take all battery questions there with a smile and be glad to help you, where in this thread battery questions will be met with verbal beratement for clogging up the thread with whining.

dont mess with these batterys
they usualy fake, has a wrap that can be removed, and then you will see its says 1600~mah
the anker and mugen 1950 are real 1950 mah and the max power u can get without extending the case(anker is cheaper thou so its more recommended)
