I tried to root my Xoom two months ago, unsuccessfully. Like many others, I had my Xoom serviced by Motorola due to the bricking. The Xoom works now, but i still want to run a different rom, preferably with less bloatware. Is the Xoom still rootable, or should I kick myself for asking?

It should still be rootable. You will probably need to oem unlock, install a custom recovery and then just flash a rooted rom. You will find them in the Development section. I recommend the configuration in my signature. Really simple that way.
Edit: Nevermind, it's an MZ600. Just checked.

Hello everyone,
I'm new to the xoom but been an android power user for some years now. I just got my xoom (32gb wifi usa/not verizon) and I was wondering if I can just only root it without the need of installing a mode (stock or not) ROM or recovery?; the reason is personal.
Does the one click root methods in market work? (Or are they safe for this device?)
Thank you all!!

There is currently no one click Xoom root, though there is 'Xoot' which is supposed to simplify the set-up and process, but still seems a bit experimental. Of course you can just root and keep your stock rom/kernel, but I would suggest you install one of the Xoom optimized recoveries -- either solarnz R4c CWM v3.2.0.0 or the team rogue version. Here is a guide you can use...check it out: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1249798

I just got this Motorola Xoom Family Edition running Moto_MZ505_1.006.1_WIFI_GEN does anyone have a root exploit (either adb shell or apk) that will root my tablet? Thanks in advance.
Unfortunately, there is way, as per my humble knowledge and search, as of yet, to root or flash custom rom for xoom family edition. I would suggest you to sell it on ebay and buy another type of xoom.

Well, as for root, there is a way on another forum, google "xoom family edition root" and it should be one of the first things you see.
As for custom roms, you're out of luck. There isn't much in the way of development for the xoom family edition, especially when compared to the development for the original xoom. That isn't to say the Xoom FE is a bad device; it isn't. If root is all you are looking for, it's fine.
My first question is, is the Verizon version of the Razr Hd able to be rooted on jb?
Two: All I want to do is be able to remove unwanted apps, add superU and possibly over clock. No roms or anything else.
Is this possible and is there a one click root?
I've looked through a lot of threads and I can't seem to find a definitive answer for the Verizon version running jb and I've only rooted a xoom, so I'm new so any info would help.
Lastly, I would be more than willing to donate to devs for any help on this. Thanks!

Anyone?

You could use Matt's utility and just not do option 4 if you don't plan on installing any roms. That's all I did on my VZ HD MAXX and it's pretty much all OTA based. Takes a while though and it's not "one click". Took me about 20-30 minutes from start to finish.
You can freeze most apps in the stock build with no root.
I suggest not removing apps, since removing apps will prevent you from getting any OTA upgrade later unless your put them back or flash the phone.
Hey all,
To be brief, my wife is mostly done using her Xoom 1, which means I can get my greedy hands on it to root/mod it etc.
My understanding at reading this forum is that there are several different versions of xoom (stingray, wingray etc.) And that my ROM I download needs to match it. My understanding is that I have a stingray which is a Verizon LTE one. My question is that since my 2 year contract is up, I will be discontinuing the network and only using the device on wifi - in doing so, does my device become a wingray or something else now? or should I plan on downloading and flashing some stingray rom even if I don't use the LTE?
I also saw that safestrap 3.1 was created, but the post I saw was specifically for the Xoom 2. I'm very used to and love this version of recovery from using it with my Bionic, and wanted to know if its compatible with the Xoom 1? Or do I need to use a different recovery? If so, which.
Sorry if these have been answered, but I didn't see the answers if so. And thanks a ton in advance.

It's still a stingray, it's possible to install wingray on it, but it's generally more trouble than it's worth if there are both stingray and wingray roms for the rom you want.
You probably want TWRP (touch enabled and the current version is recommended for the latest EOS builds,) for your recovery (nothing for the Xoom 2 is compatible with the original Xoom unless it specifically says it is, they are completely different.)
Very speedy and to the point! One of the many reasons I love the users on this forum! Thanks so much!

I went back to stock. Hit the wrong button and installed the update. Now I am not rooted and hate everything!!! Any idea how long before I can root this poor phone so I don't hate everything about it and on it?:crying:
There's a good chance there won't be another exploit found. This Is thy you have to protect root.

Well I guess just SOL. Guess I will have to live with it. Thanks for your help. I never had to use a root keeper before...

There is talk of a method to partially flash back to previous build using rsd, root, then update again over on droidrzr.com I will try to find it and link it for you.

Rsd lite is a Motorola program used to flash xml files.
I was wrong, it wasn't droidrzr.com, it was right here on xda.

He doesn't give specific instructions but others say he is reputable so if he says it worked, they believe him.

realbbb is a very sharp guy and former Bionic owner who went through all of the "Cheescake" leaked update issues we had with that device while Motorola was struggling with the baseband firmware in the early rollout of VZW's LTE network.
This workaround is a version of the method we used when you got stuck on a non upgradeable test leak and had to revert to a prior version to move forward.
It is exactly the sort of creative thinking that is required in situations like this when you find yourself stuck by unforeseen circumstances.
This can easily and safely be tested by anyone who is currently on the update and has lost root, since the full XML.zip was released shortly after the update went live last week.
