I'm looking for a cross platform SMS/Texting service! (Notice I didn't say "APP")
I wonder how many people will suggest whatsapp, KiK, Google Voice, G+messenger etc etc before reading this entire post?
I'm looking for inquiring the existence of an SMS/TXT delivery service that is cross platform, and MUST integrate below the application level.
I have a feeling this may be impossible, without a rooted/jailbroken device.
So, what would this service APP do? It would allow SMS/Text's from GoSMS, Handsent SMS, Stock TXT App or ANY SMS/TXT APP to be routed via your carrier or freely over your data connection/Internet.
For example:
Me (DROiD user), John (iPhone user) and Larry (Blackberry user)
John & I install ACME-SMS service (it's a fake name in case you start googling it), and create an account on the ACME-SMS server, for free!
Larry, he does NOT install ACME-SMS service on his BB.
Using Handsent SMS (or Stock APP), I send an SMS/TXT to John AND Larry.
ACME-SMS service on my DROiD determines that John has the ACME-SMS service running, so he'll get my SMS/TXT via the Internet/3G/Data etc... Only using a few bytes of my data plan.
On the other hand, my ACME-SMS service determines that Larry does not use ACME-SMS service, so he will get my SMS/TXT the 'normal' route, via my mobile carrier (charges apply)
The key ingredient here is that it integrates into your device as a service and 'intercepts' all your TXT's and decides if the recipient is running the same service. ALL SMS/TXT APP's will not know the difference, and the user has the choice of SMS Texting app to use. Wow, what a concept! LOL
I have a feeling this APP is a PIPE-DREAM app.
So, does such an APP exist..., yet?

Hi All
Basically, im after an application which allows me to send SMS through 3g, rather than clocking up SMS 's on my mobile bill.
I dont mind paying for them, e.g. via a 3rd party website by purchasing sms credits in bulk, but i just want to be able to send SMS's via the Internet
Windows Mobile platform preferred, or a website might even work.
Thanks
There are several websites which offer the service, so some of them should be accessible via Opera Mobile.
I've not used it myself, but a quick google suggests that Skype on WM can be used to send SMS.
Google Voice does it for free. So does Text plus.
I've been looking for a way to manage my phone data online - in real time.
What I'm basically looking for is a website or online tool that could act as a kind of gateway between my cell service provider (AT&T) and my device. I want to be able to go to a website and view my call history, listen to voicemails, read incoming and sent texts, manage contacts, etc. But I also want this data to be received by the phone too.
I've seen some sites out there that do some of what I'm looking for, like YouMail. This site lets you set up a kind of gateway where your voicemails are stored, but you will also receive them on the phone. If they could do that for text messages I'd sign up right now.
I'm familiar with MS MyPhone, but that's not real time and doesn't include voicemails.
So, is there a method/program/website I can use to get simultaneous copies of my phone's data? Kind of like one of those spy programs I guess...? But here's the issue - the phone I'd need this for is not a BlackBerry, iPhone, or WM. It's a LG Xenon.
Any ideas on this?
Hi all:
I am a developer for an app that forwards SMS (and other things) to an email address. Obviously it would be elegant to be able to reply to your SMS right from your email account, while the other side still sees your SMS in the normal way, and the app does exactly this.
But to get the reply back to the phone via email, we need the user to enter the email-to-SMS address as part of setup. You know, like [email protected] or @vtext.com. The app has a database for some countries and carriers but obviously its a drop in the bucket.
We are finding out that maybe not a lot of people know of such a feature on their phones, hence this poll! It'll help us try some other ideas, or implement this one differently.
Thanks!

PhoneLeash - free on Android Market
Rogers (in Canada) has this service.. but they charge us for it. So not many people actually have it.
Thanks to everyone who responded. As a result of the poll results, PhoneLeash now supports forwarding SMS (and missed calls, and location, and battery status) to another phone number via SMS. And replying back to these forwarded SMS' does not require an email-to-SMS feature. If you forward to a Google Voice number (or other PC-based SMS-capable services such as HeyWire, Pinger), you can use a PC, and enjoy a very nice feature set (see this review).
Thanks for the useful development for mobile users and internet users as well.
However, I'm already using this service with the help of third party i.e. TextMarketer.co.uk
Play (Poland) already has such a service. It is free for everyone. Polish speakers can check it here: http://www.blogplay.pl/2010/11/kopia-sms-na-email-beta/

I used it once to initiate a conference call. It worked for setting up the call but the sound quality was pretty terrible. All of the participants on my call were within the United States, so I don't know how it works internationally.

well ,I have used this app a couple of times recently. For a free calling app Its pretty good only if u wanna compromisehttp://forum.xda-developers.com/images/smilies/frown.gif with the sound quality and limitation of 1 hour. I mainly use it to call overseas frnds which is quite costly if ur using a standard cellular device. http://forum.xda-developers.com/images/smilies/mad.gif The main advantage I enjoyed is that U dont need any other client software for the clients ,http://forum.xda-developers.com/images/smilies/good.gif .Just cell number is enough. Regarding the info they collect , I am not sure about that. Haven't faced any issues regarding that.
still ,good enough app if u ask me! http://forum.xda-developers.com/images/smilies/cowboy.gif
