I was very excited to see Slayher's tweet thin morning that they now have 3g/4g working on Tbolt CM7 can't wait to get it up and running.

agreed... have some common sense! if the tweets were made last evening at around 11EST then there are obviously already forum posts (it is regarding CM for God's sake).
Search and post in relevant threads. This thread should be closed, as it is pointless. No need to riddle the forums with duplicate posts just because you (and everyone else) were excited and did not post in the correct thread.

Well this is the Thunderbolt general discussion forum so imo if its not here its in the wrong forum.
This forum is ment for sharing knowledge and info not bashing other users... If you don't like my post don't reply to it.. it will get pushed to the bottom and be forgotten..
I know i'd be happy to see this post and since I hadn't I posted it.. not everyone has the time so scan every forum

There really is no point to lash out. One person had already corrected him.

While I can understand your enthusiasm, I am excited as well, this post is 10 threads down from yours and there is another just above yours. Both discussing CM7 for the TB.

Captivte variants.

Is there a single place to go to read about the differences between the Captivate phones (i.e. i9000, armani, us version, european version, etc). It is all very confusing at times.

gsmarena.com and phonearena.com are the two sites I use, but you'll need to know their localized carrier names (e.g. captivate, vibrant, etc) or model #s (i897, i9000).

Have looked at the wiki? Obviously not. Thanks for posting in q&a.

The real problem is people like you coddling these guys and thinking that we're a holes for pointing out the obvious. All you are doing is spoon feeding the weak and not letting any of em learn from their mistake. You swoop in any time somebody points out a noob mistake and unhook you're bra for the suckling. Well it needs to stop.

I had a witty reply all typed up and then I realized I just don't give a ****. I've got better things to do. Give those newbs hell. Maybe then they'll run to pay $5 for support to a guy who just plagiarizes from XDA anyway.

this is what they are going to to make the new people watch once becoming a member. and the simple answer is that you only have to be worried about the captivate if your on this form untill you get enough experience to start porting things yourself. The captivate is models i896 and i897 and they have interchangeable roms.

I agree to red81, if u dont like the post/topic, just ignore it and let the other members who wants to respond and help the newbis, imo..

New Moderator!

Hello folks, my name is conantroutman and I'll be your forum moderator this evening...
Some of you may have noticed that Mr. Clown has been promoted to Senior Moderator, I am here to replace him.
I know I've got some big shoes to fill (pun intended). Clown shoes..... get it?....nevermind.. but I will try to keep on top of things and make sure the forums stay as tidy and organised as possible.
If you have any suggestions on how to improve this little section of XDA then just drop me a PM or leave a post in this thread and I'll see what I can do.
Should you encounter any issues that require moderation then don't hesitate to drop me a PM. Serious issues should be reported using the "Report Post" button at the top right of each post, minor issues (misplaced/duplicate threads, spam etc etc..) should just be reported directly to me via PM.

7. Do not spam.
If you wish to advertise a product, contact us we provide ads. But do not post it in the forums, it will be removed and you're likely to receive a ban.

8. Donations.
We appreciate all donations to xda-developers.com, it keeps our forum online and well maintained. As a user you're allowed to ask for donations in your signature as a thank you for your hard work. However donations up front are not allowed, this forum is about sharing, not about getting paid to do something, that's what your job is for.
9. Don't get us in trouble.
Don't post copyrighted materials or do other things that will obviously lead to legal trouble. If you wouldn't do it on your own homepage, you probably don't want to do it here either. If you are developing something that is based on the work of another Member, you MUST first seek their permission, and you must give credit to the member whose work you used. If a dispute occurs about who developed / created a piece of work, first try to settle the matter by private message and NOT in open forum. If this fails then you may contact a moderator with clear evidence that the work was created by you.
Convincing evidence will result in copied work being removed. If there is no clear evidence you created the work then in the spirit of sharing all work will remain posted on the forums.
These rules apply to all software posted on XDA unless that software comes with a license that waives these rules.

Why is XDA so unfriendly for new users?

Hi,
I am a dev for Advent Vega and want to post my ROM but because xda is so unfriendly, I have to spam (great I thought this method was to counter this)! Also I have to wait 5 minutes between every post.
Why did you make xda such an unfriendly place?

I think they do it to discourage users that treat the forum as free tech support, rather than a community focused on a common interest.
Obviously that doesn't describe you, but you do benefit from participating in a forum that limits 'how do I ..' and 'help me' type posts and discourages dependence on it's members.
A lot of people want to be held by the hand through every step of a process or problem. That attitude, though perfectly understandable, drains the time and/or patience of everybody around them, resources that are better spent on solving issues that haven't been addressed on numerous other sites.

There is this thing called the general section and noobs can post there

As a part time dev myself, I can perfectly understand where they're coming from here. It's easy for a person to assume that somebody is happy to walk them through installing something, but when there's hundreds of people like that a day, and all of them are asking questions that have answers in very easy to find places, it becomes very pissing off.

Free hechoen

As some of you may or may not know Hechoen has received a ban from the forums. The ban is his first and is for ten days. The reason for the action was "Disrespectful attitude towards moderator." Some background follows. He was PM'd by a mod to remove his avatar within 48 hours. The mod seemed to think that it could be offensive to some members. His avatar has been around for a long time and was a cartoon of a guy giving the middle finger with the words "Censor this!". As we all know an avatar is an extension of your online personality. To get an idea of whether or not the community found it offensive he posted a question about it in the off-topic thread(that he created). He never named the mod or said anything "disrespectful" towards the mod. Within minutes the post was deleted and he was banned. So I ask any of you that think this action unfair to please respond here. Also feel free to PM a mod(or five) with a link to this thread. If others believe this to be unfair and we unite as a community maybe, just maybe, we'll make a difference.

seems to help where he can..sounds
like they used the avatar thing as an excuse...he has had that avatar as long as I remember... Mods cut him some slack...give him a warning and let it go....

i might be somewhat a noob but hechoen has been on the sgs4g forums way before i joined and new what roms were he plays an importnd role in xda

Don't worry, the mods have heard our petition and hechoen will be unbanned in approximately 9 more days It's a problem with the forum software, we just can't make it unblock anyone faster than that.

wow really he has never been anything but nice to people ..../failpalm

maybe if i added a little neon effect or something, then it might just be a little appropriate? :banghead:

Not that I agree with the ban, but, wasn't he asking to be censored?

I don't know the guy personally but this isn't the first time a mod has abused their powers. Most don't, but then again what can you really do? Hope he's unbanned shortly. And to all the mods not on a power trip, please keep up the fine work we appreciate you.

XDA is a development forum, off topic discussion is allowed to some extent to afford users to create relationships that strengthen bonds and friendships that will, hopefully, lead towards a stronger development community and thus, possibly better product for the masses.

That being said - this website, and the threads within, are really for development and the developers. Moderators are merely here to make sure that the aforementioned development, along with the published rules, are being abided by.
Regardless of whether moderators do the popular thing or not, we do what we do with sincere interest for the community as a whole. Users who want to challenge the rules and/or criticize what moderators do and try to incite others in this plight are ones who bring little value to this community. Additionally, and you most should be aware, there are plenty of social media websites available to sign petitions and to express your feelings, XDA is not one of them.
And, to refer to the about linked post by zelendel, no one made you come here. You agreed to be respectful in your posts, to be critical of moderators, who are also members, is also not allowed.
For those of you in here who have posted, good to meet you. I expect you all will try to exercise respect, humanity and dignity from here on out - wherever and whenever you post.
