[Q] Stick with WP7 Or go back to android? - General Questions and Answers

A month ago, I my HTC desire z spoiled and I went on to buy a lumia 710 for temporary use. I LOVED windows phones user interface but the lack of apps just makes me wanna move back to android. My desire z came back from repair and I was thinking of selling that and my lumia to get a sensation or atrix. Looking at the specs, the atrix and sensation should have about the same performance. Should i get the attrix since its alot cheaper? Or the sensation? Or use both my lumia and Desire Z?

Sensation
Sent from my SGS2 powered by cm9 love

yeah sensation but you not planning to wait and see the galaxy s3?

Get the Atrix 2 as opposed to the original.
Sent from my U8150 using XDA

Why the sensation? I have no $$ for the SGS3. They dont sell atrix 2 in singapore, unfortunately.

Get the desire s,good price for ICS version of android
Sent from my U8150 using XDA

The sensation XE version is also very good for the extra $$$ with big bass on the stock earphones, but again battery drains fast, and galaxy s2 is around same price...consider it also.
Sent from my U8150

I think sensation is more popular eg More Roms I guess

I'm an audiophile, so no beats for me. I think I will get the sensation, if I can one thats within my budget. I might as well just stick with my DZ if I was thinking of getting the Desire S.

But am I gonna get the beautiful animations and fluidity of WP if I buy the sensation and cm on it?

With the sensation, definitely. Sense is awesome. Get it in white if you can

custom launcher?

SPB Shell is my favorite. Super slick and goes deep in your phone and changes everything.

Are there any apps in particular that you're missing on the Lumia or are you brainwashed into thinking that a jillion apps is what makes an OS? Your day-to-day interface with your phone is what will determine which route you take. To paraphrase Shakespeare, "to thine own self be true".

Sensation, better get a beast phone than 2 choppy ones and customization with Android is limitless

[Q] Should I buy now, or wait for Ice Cream Sandwich?

I'm currently rocking a Desire Z but would really like to upgrade. The Sensation's caught my eye and I can get a cheap deal for it after selling my Desire Z, but I'm not sure if it's wise to go for it or wait for Ice Cream Sandwich.
Rumours have been pointing to a September/October release, which I can wait for, but the most recent leak, the one on RootzWiki and AndroidPolice, where the source claimed that ICS was some time away from launch and we won't be seeing it in the September/October time frame.
What do you guys suggest? The Sensation's definitely got the oomph to run ICS, but should I wait for an ICS phone from HTC around Christmas time?
It's up to you. I don't know if I would be willing to wait for HTC/ tmo to push the update.
Sent from my HTC Sensation Z710e using XDA App
The Desire Z is nice. I had the G2. If you are into modding, and since you're on XDA I'm guessing you are, I would upgrade and then flash whatever ICS port that we get. That's just me.
The Vision is definitely a capable device to hold you over if you don't want to upgrade.

I used to buy resell phones. I suggest selling ur current phone, get the sensation for dirt cheap as u say. Then buy an ics phone. Cuz if u wait you'll end up spending more cash as the desire z will lose value.
Dot get me wrong it also depends how much ur selling and buying for. Just run the numbers urself and don't forget to think about the 2year contract price if its an option for u

I'm 100% happy with my decision to go from desire hd, which is the same generation as desire z, to the sensation. Like you I was a little unsure but my itch got unbearable and I must say I love this phone. It is notably faster than Dhd already even on gingerbread.

Would u trade your Nexus for Sensation.

I have a sensation I'm thinking of trading for nexus. Which would u guys rather?

I've had the Nexus S 4G since launch and at this point, it's going to take a lot to pry this phone out of my hands.. It is still easily the best god damn phone I've ever owned and with ICS coming there is really no end in sight for exchanging it for something else.
In ur case, EVO 3d?

Speaking only for myself, not a chance. I love this phone.
I think you really will enjoy the Nexus. Its a great phone. I hope to always keep a Nexus in the stable.
I feel the same way, I will most likely always have a Nexus variant if not collect each one.
I wouldn't trade my nexus for anything other than the galaxy nexus. I got mine on the launch day last year and still loving it.
You should definitely trade. I have both and except for the dev support and screen, the sensation is better in everyway. And sense 3.5 on it is BADASS. ONLY carrier overlay that is worth a **** IMO.
I have both the Nexus S AND the Sensation. I like them both almost equally. Although, I do like the way the Sensation feels in my hand a little better. But....YMMV.
It's a tablet dammit! Not a BIG phone....
I wouldn't, it's a marginal hardware update, and then there's sense, which in all of its variations I just don't like. I follow there cm7 though, looking fairly stable at this point. That's a plus if there's one. This is just my opinion, not trying to start a flame war or anything

So true, I'll never buy another bloatware-laden locked down phone evar!!!!
I broke my HTC Desire HD, and as I had to buy a new device, the best and cheapest choice was the Nexus S (LCD here in France, far better than amoled picture wise).
There is only two thing the Nexus S is better than the DHD, its screen with better colors and backlight, and the useless but funny toy: nfc chip. Ah, another one : easy device unlock and rooting !
If I could afford it, I'll buy a Sensation or Incredible S, or even Desire HD any time.
Better alu case, better overall feeling with HTC devices, better camera... More Ram, and so on...
Maybe worse in benchmarks, but overall use experience much smoother and less laggy.
Now HTC devices are again unlocked, so MIUI is again available on theses rigs, so if you have to choose between a Sensation or a Nexus S, I'll choose the the HTC every time!
As you already own a Sensation, from my point of view, you are going a step down, maybe two...
But it is only my opinion.

Agreed, I hate all those custom UI's, AOSP FTW!
i think i would swap
but im waiting for the next nexus if i can hold out. i realize i need dual cores. i multitask way to much.
i also want a rock steady gps and the nexus s is flaky at times
i also need a better camera. after the epic i have been spoiled
i might not find the camera portion in the new nexus. i will hold out for the gs3 if i have to get it shipped.

Although the SGS2 is a fantastic device, it's not all that much better than the Sensation. The only real selling points it has over the Sensation is the SAMOLED+ display tech, the onboard storage, and the Exynos CPU. It's also thinner and lighter. The Sensation though, has a higher density screen so even though it's LCD, it's nicer to look at (IMO). The size/weight issue is a personal thing - I had the original SGS and thought it felt too cheap and light to be such expensive device. To me, the extra heft of the Sensation makes it feel a nicer device, but whatever.
If you were upgrading from an older device, it'd be a tough choice as it is. If I were you though, I'd stay with the Sensation because you just won't notice $530 (or even $250) worth of difference
EDIT: as a side note, I did upgrade to the Sensation from a similar device - the LG Optimus 2X. I had multiple issues with that device though, and the Sensation feels like a dream in comparison.
I've just had the SGS2 and got rid of it for the Sensation. I don't regret it. What I will say is this : whichever one you have you will want the other!! But I can tell you that the Sensation is worth keeping. Find a rom that you like and personalise & tweak it. Personally, I'm using xl DI GIT AL lx "digitalized" ics themed rom. Very quick.
The phone is more of a premium handset in other's eyes as well.

This person is right.
Why anyone would get a device that's about to get outdated really, really soon makes no sense to me.
Id stick with the Sensation as well. Once it has ICS, it will be on the same level as the Prime anyways. Not as good, but on the same level.
Matt
I was waiting for the SGS2 to come out as well but now that it is out I actually don't think it is any better than the Sensation. I went to tmobile store to try it out and found that my Sensation feels better because of Sense. The SGS2 was not thinner than the Sensation imo. it feels bulkier in my pocket. I'm glad i went with the sensation instead of waiting forever for the SGS2
I'd stick with the Sensation and just load ICS when it get's released.
why bother with the SGSII at this point? especially considering Tmous version uses the same Snapdragon processor?
if you really feel the need to upgrade just wait out a few more months for the newer phones in the pipeline... at the very least until Nov. for the Nexus.

I would definitely go with the SGSII... Well I did, it's the better phone hands down. Longer battery life, not laggy like sensation as far as stock goes, it's been out two weeks and it's already rooted ( like a week ago) it already has a couple of ROMs and the super AMOLED plus display is stunning. Personally I like having a light device, it may be plastic but I'm sure it has better chances of surviving a drop than the sensation. Now on the other hand the sensation has a great resolution, very sharp and lots of ROMs and devs behind it so if you're into ROMs and customizing and all that than it should be good too. But comparing both phone stock, no contest, the SGSII is the better phone.
people should stop comparing SGS2 stock with Sensation stock!
Sense ROMs will always be slower then stock Android.
Main point of HTC phones are Sense. If you dislike Sense then SGS2 is the way to go.
I would also stich with sensation
Go to a shop and take a SGS2 and turn it on. Take your sensation and turn it on. Place the two displays in front of you.
At this point you will just have noticed the low res of the sgs2 and the blueish display of the samsung, and you will turn it off and return to the shelf.
Problem solved.

Which used GSM Android to buy for max $250

Hi Guys,
Which Android phone would you advice me with a budget of maximum €200 ($250)? I'm willing to buy something used.
Mainly I need good and stable WiFi Tethering (Hotspot, not peer-to-peer access point).
Second thing is the speed - I'm upgrading from a HTC Hero, which even after rooting with VillainROM isn't really the fastest...
HTC Desire? Or any other suggestions?
Thanks in advance for your help!
Edit: sorry wrong section, moved question to here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=26891627#post26891627
For used phone i think Galaxy S i9000. i have this phone and a very very good device
Thanks for your answer.
Actually, the Galaxy S Advance still fits my budget, so I guess it would be a much better choice than the S i9000?
I'm looking for a 3.7" or 4.0" phone (I'd like it to be usable with one hand) so that leaves me with rather limited choices. I have also found the Xperia Sola, but it seems that it isn't very popular here on xda, and I have read it has browsing problems...
Other than that, the Galaxy Ace 2 seems very interesting.
What would you advice? Or are there any other phones worth considering?
Buy the HTC explorer or Samsung GT-5360 there both good phones.

I used to have a Desire Z (the one with the hardware keyboard) but it started feeling too slow because of lack of sheer CPU horsepower.
I managed to snag a used HTC Sensation 4G for about $250 and I absolutely love it. There are lots of great ICS ROMs for it (outside of any official ICS releases). With newer phones coming out, you should be able to pick up a used one within your budget.
Good luck!
HTC sensations are going for around 250 in my area.

..if you can, go for the HTC Sensation...otherwise Samasung Galaxy S
Thanks so much for the answers
I was looking at these phones, I think I might stretch my budget, but the Sensation is 4.3"... My original goal was to be able to use the phone in one hand, but maybe I'm exaggerating?
Last time I went to a store here I found that the Xperia Sola (3.7") was OK to use with one hand. The Galaxy S Advance (4.0") felt quite large already, but was also possible. There wasn't anything 4.3", but the One X (4.7") felt totally impossible.
If I were to go for the Samsung, is a Galaxy S really preferred over a dual-core 1,0GHz Galaxy S Advance??? Or is it to be expected that there won't be much development for the S Advance?
And about the Sensation - I see there is the Sensation 4G with a 1,2GHz CPU and the XE with a 1,5GHz. I assume the latter would be of preference?
Get the LG g2x
HTC sensation XE. Great phone.

The Sensation XE has a faster CPU (not THAT noticeable) but it does have Beats Audio, which the regular 4G doesn't have.
Of course, if Beats Audio is important to you and you can get a 4G for cheap, do it and just root your device and install a custom ROM onto it. There are lots of them and some of them have Beats built in.

Why?
The folks from the Atrix forum claim that CM9 is usable on daily basis, and the videos of it on youtube look really good (very smooth)
I am actually considering a SGS2 now, because they have dropped in price second hand considerably (I can get a used SGS2 for the price of a new Atrix here), but I'm still not really convinced I'll get used to the size of it...

I've had the atrix and honestly. Idk what the deal is about Motorola but the atrix just isn't smooth. Its not slow, no not at all but I mean it studders on every little action. I don't know how to explain it, its like its not optimized for the hardware.

It's hard to agree with you after watching this: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wQvrEH74dgI ....
(I'm not planning on running stock, if I would be, I wouldn't be on xda )

Would you trade in your sensation for the new upcoming nexus 4?.

I thought I didn't like sense at all and was always using Nova Launcher, until i rooted and flashed vipers from sense 4.1 and now I think i will miss if I go pure google.
The question is for those that don't like sense and are always rooting to get stock android..would you give up your beloved sensation for the nexus 4?..
Consider the specs updates and tempting low price tag it comes with.
I searched the forum but if someone already said this please delete thread ASAP!!!

On our Sensations, we have the option of Sense or pure AOSP, so I would stick with the Sensation just for that flexibility. Every time I try and switch to the latest CM10 or other ROMs I end up coming right back to ViperS Sense, I love how all the features just work. And the Sense contact linking is great, my only gripe is the low-res contact pictures.
Without a second thought.
Why would I not trade a year and a half phone for a new phone that will get updates directly from Google? First of all, we don't even know if the Sensation will get JB.
And that's before specs are even considered.
I'm with you on this, I don't want to go back to the "pure google" experience. It feels to raw and the custom sense roms we have around are very good these days...
With the price being low on the Nexus 4, why not have both? That's what I'm doing

Nexus 4
I've always wanted a Nexus phone. I got my Nexus 7 tablet the first day it was offered, and I love it. So, yes. MY Sensation is going to be retired as soon as I get my hands on a Nexus 4.
Of course. Except the Sensation 4G isn't even worth half of what the Nexus 4 is worth on the market, that is, given it's still in mint condition.
Will be getting the N4 and selling the S4G on eBay.
For me the upgrade doesn't make sense unless I can sell my sensation for $180 or more

Would trade it right now.
The Sensation is the c**ppiest phone I've ever owned. I had it replaced once and now it's sent again for repairs, for the 5th time.
if Nexus lacks SD slot as i have readed somewhere then deffo not, if there is a sd slot ... well ... no either way, i would go for SGS3
I think I'll stay with Sensation. There is a lot of ROMs for it and that's the cool thing. However I'm planning to buy Nexus 10 as an addition.
I don't care for LG phones. The galaxy note 2 looks more appealing to me.

well from reading articles online and friends' experiences, LG has apparently bumped up the build quality of their phones. I havent had any personal experiences with LG devices, but the N4 does look good. the only real downside for me is lack of SD card (I carry around a lot of music files), but now that Ive switched to the unlimited data plan I stream my music a lot more through Audiogalaxy
benefits of sensation over the nexus 4:
1. removable battery (only an issue for very few)
2. microsd (also only an issue for a few who need more than 8-16GB)
3. SenseUI (only an issue for the noobies who prefer sense over AOSP/CM/AOKP)
nexus 4 is much better in every way as long as those 3 arent a problem for you
also, LG hardware is usually solid, its their crappy software that turns people off.
either way, all the reviews say this is a solid device. the Nexus branding will help LG make a name for themselves, the way it made HTC known in the android world, and the same way it made samsung known. its more about getting out there than it is about profits.
I would spend my hard earned money on a Samsung phone, won't touch an LG phone after my Vu experience.
Sgs3 and Note 2 are 2 outstanding android phones. Sorry HTC, my experience with sensation will be my final adieu to HTC.
