[Q] Is there any way to share a picture from the browser via MMS message in ICS? - HTC Sensation

I recently flashed my HTC Sensation to Android 4.03 with Virtuous Aquisition, a senseless based ROM. One of the features that I often used in sense was the ability press and hold a picture in my stock browser and share it a bunch of different ways, my favorite being by text message. This is no longer an option in the stock browser in ICS or available in Chrome Beta and Dolphin.
Downloading the picture and then going to the gallery seems like such a pain, especially since this was a feature of Sense 3.0 on Gingerbread.
TL;DR: Is there a way to long-hold an image you come across the web browser and share it via MMS in stock ICS?

Android Eclair 2.1 web browser?

Does anyone have the apk for the normal Android Eclair 2.1 web browser, like the one that came with the Nexus One? Is it any faster than the HTC browser, i.e. pinch-to-zooming?
I prefer the HTC one much more than the stock one. the stock one seems to take longer to zoom and pinch zooming isnt as good.

ics browser sucks?

dont mean to be crude but it really sucks compared to old stock gingerbread sense browser. what can i do to get a smooth browser experience with no flickers and slow rendering after pinch and zoom? i tried maxthon but even that is a bit slow in rendering after pinch and zoom. i flashed the downgrade fix but that still sucks. in gingerbread everything was smooth. any help? thanks

G'day champ,
I understand what you're saying, I also had these problems. I don't tend to like Maxthon, Firefox is also still in what feels like an early beta stage.
I've moved towards Dolphin Browser HD, and I haven't had any problems with it at all. I'd provide more info, but I'm in a rush.
But let me know how it goes for you, as I'd love to hear your feedback on it.
Are we not liking Chrome, either?
yeah agree , before it was good but now i use chrome beta!
I got ics but I don't have any problems with my browser .
There's nothing wrong with the ics browser on my phone, and I think it's better because it has more functions.
ICS browser works fine for me on my nosense VI rom.
i tried chrome too. not really my cup of tea. im ok with dolphin though. you guys probably forgot what the gingerbread stock browser was like. I jus moved from gingerbread to ice cream sandwich and the difference is huge. i mean this new browser is ok, but i just wish it were more responsive and smooth with the rendering and pinch and zoom
I'm sure it'll be better after official release guys... And chrome is decent but I'm holding untill its released from beta

Yes thank you I have been having this problem too. I have only noticed it in Yahoo! Mail though. I have uninstalled it yahoo mail though. I have a full release version of ICS too. You would think they would check that with such popular programs as Yahoo Mail.
Thanks for the info. I've flashed a few ics roms & every1 of them has an unpleasant browsing experience compared to stock GB, especially on the desktop of utube. Does dolphin HD scroll & pinch to zoom smoothly on the desktop utube? I'd like to know b4 I reflash again for the 20th time. Thanx in advance

I'm using Chrome Beta, and has so many bugs. I use Opera 11.62 for my computer's browser, but Opera on mobile doesn't like HTML 5. So, I still use Chrome even though it kind of sucks.
Yes it does.
Though this may work better in devices with hardware buttons such as the Sensation (I wonder if it does):
There's no standard menu button and you have to hunt for it in each application, as in all of ICS
The menu "...." icon, in Google's finest new style, is unintuitive and most often hidden
Can't search the page or perform a menu action withotu abandoning my current scroll position
But I've had even worse issues:
I can't find where can I change my User-Agent so that I don't get the crappy "mobile" sites from everybody; I haven't paid 500 € on a large screen phone to get crippled versions
I can't find where can I add custom search engines
Screen estate is often wasted with yet another obnoxious toolbar made of obnoxious Google style icons (i.e. ugly, monochrome, abstract and unintuitive)
And that's just from 5 minutes of use. Back to Opera Mobile — I suggest you do the same; it's faster, has better features and a much better UI (well, anything has a much better UI compared to Google's stuff since Google+).
I've choosen for myself "ICS Browser+".

Stock AOSP browser vs Stock Sense 3.6 browser

So what do you guys think? Which is better? Stock ics or htc's version of the ics browser? I haven't had much time with the sense but google sure did a good job on the browser this time (along with the whole update).
Sense browser hides the notification bar, I really hate that. Stock ICS.
The AOSP browser hides the address bar (and the tab button), and you can't bring it back with the menu key. You have to scroll down momentarily, then tap the address or the tab button quickly before it hides itself again. On the Sense browser pressing menu brings the address bar back, and the tabs also appear in the menu, so you don't have to rush to catch either before it disappears.
Otherwise they're pretty much the same to me. What I love about both is that when the browser gets unloaded from memory it saves all your tabs - on GB you lost everything except the last page you were on.
I prefer stock ICS browser
Stock ICS browser for the moment, no doubt.
(Although I am hoping for Chrome to trump everything in its way in the near future)
Is their any possible way to download the AOSP Browser and use it on sense 3:6?

HTC native browser vs vanilla ICS browser questions

Hi All,
I am currently an iPhone user, but this phone may make me change league. Just a few questions regarding this particular device running HTC Sense 4.
One of the reason I considering change league is because ICS finally support full OpenGL ES rendering in the browser and all over the UI.
As far as I know, HTC devices use their own branded theme HTC Sense, which bundled with its own browser rather than the vanilla ICS browser. I noticed that the vanilla ICS browser has the option to enable full OpenGL ES render path. This make the browser work a lot faster and better surfing exp. I wonder if HTC's native browser has the same setting(s). Or is it already coded to enable OpenGL ES rendering?
If not, can I change the default browser to something, say the vanilla ICS chrome browser? or Dolphin? (not sure if Dolphin support OpenGL ES rendering though.)
Thanks.
It's still the same Ice Cream Sandwich browser just with HTC Sense themed over it, but the code inside the browser should be a bit different for the Tegra 3.
As long as you enable 'Full 2D GPU Rendering' or something in the developer setting, other browser should have it.
Thanks,
Is there any easy way to disable the Sense Theme then? or even run vanilla ICS? Coz in previous HTC releases, Sense of earlier versions really slow the UI experience or even lagging, that put me off a bit even they have some of the highest-end hardware in the market.
Or Does it mean that unlock bootloader, root access or even custom ROM will be needed??

As far as removing Sense (I did it on my Sensation), you will probably need to do all 3 (unlock bootloader, root access and installing a custom ROM) in my case i used Android Revolution HD, with the noSense script applied directly after installing ROM.
My guess is that it will be the same sort of thing to do it to the One S.
Hope that helps

Thanks mate,
Although I may not like the Sense theme applied to the UI and browser, I found that the HTC's touch on the camera app is quite well received. I wonder if there is any possible ways to keep the camera app HTC way and just stop the Sense theme from working over the UI and Browser?
Cheers.
You can always change launcher to GO launcher, ADW or Launcher pro. That wont take sense away completely but a big part of it. That can be done without root.

That's brilliant, thank you.
In terms of rooting the device and unlocking the bootloader, how hard will that be? As I know Sony's Xperia range even offer official unlock bootloader support, how good is this for the HTC's? Sorry for the noob questions.
You can unlock the bootloader via the HTC Dev website and there is already a method for rooting in the developer section of this forum.
The only true way to get rid of sense is to flash an AOSP rom, CM9 for example. AOSP is basically the stock android OS but when and if AOSP roms show up for this phone is hard to say. A lot of people buy HTC for sense so sense roms tend to be more popular.
AOSP means you will lose the HTC camera app which means you will lose all the cool features like burst mode. As mentioned you can use a different launcher, some like Apex launcher are based on the stock android launcher so it will be a good way to get the stock feel whilst keeping all the HTC apps. This is probably what I will do, as much as I prefer AOSP in general I don't want to lose the camera app.

Thanks mate,
but using the launcher method will mean that I only get rid of the UI Sense home, but still need to stick with other HTC Sense features like HTC style multitasking, etc. where I prefer the original ICS.
What a shame! This phone is really a beauty in built and form factor is perfect for me. But many little flaws put me off a bit and a second thought is really in my mind...
e.g. The camera's output is too soft, the HTC sense in a burden for ICS, etc.

Stock ICS/JB Email with Conversation View?

Due to a bunch of issues I experienced with the TouchWiz email app, I recently replaced with the ICS AOSP Email/Exchange apps from this thread.
While its definitely much more stable than the original, the one feature Im missing is the conversation view the TouchWiz version has. Is there a version of the stock ICS or even JB email app that includes this?
Thanks!
