Help! Using Galaxy Note as a tablet. - Galaxy Note GT-N7000 Themes and Apps

Hello. I hope that i post this message in the corect place.
I want to hnow how can I remove Phone, Contacts, Note S and apps bar from home screen. I use it as a tablet with data sim not phone sim and i see them unuseful in this situation.
Thanks.
Sent from my GT-N7000 using Tapatalk 2

You just delete Phone, Contacts, and Note S off the home screen. Or if you are rooted and use TI backup you can freeze them. I don't think anything will mess up with them but if you get FCs just defrost them.

Are you just using it in Phone UI or have you changed the LCD density to tablet UI?

OP should probably stick with learning the ins and outs of TWlauncher and maybe freezing apps with TI Backup before he gets into changing LCD density ;-)

Yeah, definitely. I wasn't going to explain it unless he asked. I was mainly just double checking to make sure he wasn't already in tablet UI.

You can use Orientation Switch app to force landscape mode in the launcher, it works fine but it leaves the dock active at the side (still in 2.3.6).

I also use the phone as a tablet and I freeze all useless apps with Anntek App Manager Pro, root required.

It will most likely mess things up if he freezes/deletes core Android apps, so it's not recommended at all.

I think this might have been what the OP was looking for (I remember having this very question the day I got my Gnote, wasn't apparent to me coming from an Iphone):
Press the 'Applications' button (four squares)
Press the menu button (left capacitive button)
Press 'edit'
You can now drag icons off the apps bar below, and drag icons from the app drawer up to your apps bar
Make a folder (by dragging icons into each other) and just leave them in your app drawer. Problem solved.
Another non-root and safe option is to use another launcher which supports hiding icons within the app drawer, but IMO tw is best on GB in terms of smoothness

Please, how i insert swype method on native keybord HTC ?

How i insert swype on keybord of HTC One ?
Only apk in Google Play ?
Run Swype installer and it will do the rest. Or look under setting language and keyboard.

Hmm, all he will see is:
ERROR: This screen size is not supported...
Asked swype about this on march 9th, still no answer. You can read my question here.
The reason is, that the true resolution of the HTC One S seems to be 540x888 px. This size is not supported at the moment.
im using swype on my One S with no issues at all. so it is supported
Tried the installer again - it doesn't work.
So I'm gonna try to copy or push the apk from my desire tomorrow or sth like that. Let's see what happens.
---
Copied swype apk and installed it, works like a charm now.
I get the same error message as rootrider.
I thought the One S has a swype-like input method integrated ??
It does, but it is fizzy wine to swype's vintage champagne!

I had it on a Titanium Backup from my Sensation, When i restored that backup on the One S it was there.. Check the attached images
I personally prefer FlexT9 by Nuance (who just acquired Swype).
So people trying to install swype from scratch should copy the apk and install or use one from a backup (if there is one) instead of the installer.
Nice
edit: swype and swype installer apk added
I don't know if you still need that beta account for installation (using the installer you have to).
yeah i guess thats the way to do it... swype (for me) must believe im still using a sensation because thats the phone i had when i backed it up
but it works flawlessly so why its not supported is bull****
I just went to settings, keyboard, htc intput, then their is a swype option

Its not the same thing.
So I think I know why swype doesn't want to work on this phone. When you open the installer to the point where you log in, if you look down at the bottom of the screen, you see the menu button just above the capacitative buttons. I think this is probably making swype think that we only have 888 pixels instead of the 960.
I downloaded the Swype APK (not the installer) attached in one of the above posts and it installed and now works without any issues.
Thanks Rootrider

This, or because of this.
Thanks Rootrider.
I was getting a bit annoyed with the HTC Sense "Swype" keyboard. Especially, when it changed or disallowed swyping depending on the app.
I installed a Tibackup of Swype from my old Nexus One, and it works like a champ.

I had the 'Screen size not supported' message using the official installer. This apk works fine - many thanks!
I had the screen size issue, then the APK posted above resolved it.
Today swype told me there's an update and went through the installer process again. Now it is successfully downloading. This is past the earlier portion where I would get the screen size not supported issue.

4.0.4 LRK Yellow Theme

Hi
Just thought I might share with anyone on a LRK rom a yellow theme I have. I made this for ClassicRom but should work fine on any LRK rom and possibly 4.0.4. There are some issues with LR6 with wrong text displayed but all good on LRK but haven't tested on previous 4.0.4 roms.
I used some images from this theme here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1618692&highlight=emily which was made for a charity cause so check it out.

Ok, thanks for the feedback, I don't use the clock so didn't know that was happening. Icon is easy to fix, but will have to have a look into what happened to the pngs in the framework for the clock. Hopefully I'll be able to sort it out today some time and get the fix up.

No shouldn't need to wipe. Two things I can think of is check your system space in a root explorer sometimes files wont flash if pretty much no space available. So just check system/app to see what's left. If have free space could of just been a bad flash or download.

Development: Customizable S7/Edge 'Always On' display

Hi all
I just bought an S7 edge after trading in my iPhone 6S. Overall, its been a great experience. However, the 'Always On' feature seems little more than a glorified clock.
I was surprised to see there wasn't already an app or tweak to customize the 'Always On' screen. Ah well, maybe I should make one instead of complaining (I'm a computer science student, not an Android expert by a long shot but have done my fair share)? So off to find a way...
Technical Overview: Going into the settings, there's an option for setting a picture with a black background to stay 'Always On' instead of the usual clock/call&message counter thingy. This looks very promising. Might even be a little too easy. How about an app that runs in the background and replaces the image with a custom one. So say a whatsapp message arrives, the app draws the message on the custom image and viola!
Okay so maybe it wont be THAT easy, since I suspect the phone just reads the image once on locking and doesn't continually update it. That would make sense after all. Still maybe a refresh can be forced, will have to look into this.
Feedback? This is after all FOSS development, so I'm loath to do start anything without community feedback. Do you guys think this will be useful? Any other comments , suggestions etc. etc.?
Also first post on XDA; long time lurker though.

I'm definitely optimistic about this. Going to give it a first attempt when I find some time later this week.
Also, root will probably be needed if the wallpapers are on system files or if a reload has to be forced to view new notifications. Maybe a less functional mode can later be added which doesn't require root.

I like the always on display idea. But turn it off, because of a lack of features.
So yes, i would definitely love to see some development on this!
I too would love to see something along these lines
I'd be happy enough if I could just choose my own AOD image without making any changes to the clocks!
Would love to see 3rd party app notifications on AOD, more customizable features would be awesome

there is already lots of AOD similar apps with customizable notification display
I've developed an android app for bringing Always On to all android devices with AMOLED screens. It's called "Always On: Ambient Clock" . And it is highly customizable.
I can't post a link now since I have only 5 posts but you can search for it on Play Store.

Cool, just tried it. being able to see the battery % would be great too. and let it move around the screen like it does on the S7, so it wont burn the AMOLED. Plus add more features, will be a great replacement AOD :good:

My question is; is there anything special Samsung is doing to get extra battery life out of their AOD? I understand the big advantage is from the AMOLED, but is it just a case of any image with a lot of black has the same advantage as Samsung's AOD? Or have they triggered something special to get all those pixels off. And what about processes that need to run to display the AOD? I assumed that was part of the reason why Samsung's AOD was so minimal in what it can display - because those were basic things already running on the phone and didn't create any extra load.
Basically if there was something special about Samsung's AOD, it would seem to make sense to expand and develop that and build on their existing battery optimization (whatever that might be - special screen setting or special minimal process in the background etc). Otherwise bring on the third party apps!

i think as long your screen is dark thoes pixels will turn it self off BUT i dont know how much more third party AOD apps will drain battery because it will have to be running in the background even the screen is on? but i think the samsung AOD it triggered on of when it detected that your screen is off so it wont drain battery on background service while screen is on(im just guessing this cuz its part of the system it would be easy to trigger it on and off instead of let it run in the background)
It needs the ability for everything being displayed to move around. Stationary is not the way to go. Worse for displays.
Also needs ambient light detection so it can switch brightness on the go.

Great job.
And what I was saying is on my s7 edge I can use the wave to wake feature and the pocket detection.
For the s7 edge it waits a few second before turning off the always on display when in your pocket.
You should set a slight delay for the in pocket activation. Or make it less sensitive. There must be a way to make it happen.

text selection drag indicators behind keyboard

This issue is driving me insane and I can't figure out how to fix it ....
I am using Gboard right now because I can't stand Sammy's default keyboard .... Plus I like the integration of translate etc ...
Anyways the problem that I am having is with the drag indicators for the text selection being behind the keyboard at the very bottom ... this is also the issue when trying to select text for spelling correction.
I switched back to the Sammy keyboard to verify the same issue .... No joy ....
It makes selecting text extremely hard to deal with ....
See the attached screenshot .....
Any fix for this .... ?
Very strange. I just tested on mine because I love Gboard, and mine doesn't do that. On my screen, the little indicators float to the front layer and actually enlarge and shrink when I grab them. Do you have the latest version of Gboard?

Yes I am running the newest version of gboard so I don't think that is the issue I have also tried to disable gboard the behavior is the same using the default Samsung keyboard .....
The behavior is encountered using WhatsApp and the default text message client pre-installed with the default Samsung TouchWiz.
Also just tried typing a message with telegram and the results are the same.......
However while using the xda app for posting this message the issue does not seem to exist see the attached screenshot.
I just fixed the issue ......
As I suspected it was a screen overlay issue ...
The app causing the problem was navbar ....
Uninstalled the app and the problem went away.
That really sucks because I like the idea of being able to choose my own colors and all the extra features that was included with navbar....
I guess it's back to the default software button colors until navbar development can fix the issue ....
Good find thanks for the update.

Official Android P Rom discussion

Hello all,
So I believe most of us should have the Android P update by now. I'm intrigued as to what you all think.
Sadly, the update has downgraded the experience of a great phone. Here are the issues which popped up for me after the update:
- Very slow fingerprint recognition and unlock
- Android crashes when you turn off wifi
- A noticeable drop in performance speed all round (animations are slow or clunky, apps are slow to open or to load)
- No digital wellbeing app which is a major part of Android P
- Unable to install Pixel Launcher 9
We spend quite a large amount of our time using our phones and ever since the update, the whole experience has taken a hit and now, and it's very noticeable. I'm desperate to get off this phone now, which is sad because, before the update, The phone ran beautifully without any dramas.
What do you guys think?
Have you done factory reset? I don't have any of the problems you say.
Digital Wellbeing is installed. Do the search in settings and then you can add it to the rest of the applications (there is a switch to do it).
The only problem I find is that the adaptive battery is not in place. I have to look for it in the settings. In the videos I saw of the taiwan rom it seemed that it was in settings -> battery, but in the European one it didn't. Not a big deal, but there it is.
I can't tell you anything about the pixel launcher because I use default HTC Sense.
No I haven't. I don't have the time to reset and and restore everything. An update should just work and not require a factory reset.
I managed to get Digital Wellbeing working but it needed some effort. The version from the Play Store wouldn't let me download it because, apparently, it is incompatible with the phone. Weird.
Anyway, so I had to download the APK, install, download Activity Launcher, install, then use Activity Launcher to show the Digital Wellbeing app in the app list and also allow it usage permissions. Then I was able to use the app.
Another issue which popped up after the update I forgot to mention above was that the navigation bar at the bottom has reduced in size, which is good, but unfortunately it still behaves as if it was the same size as before, so when you're typing and you press the space bar, it sometimes thinks you've pressed the home button and takes you home. VERY VERY FRUSTRATING.
One other thing which I've realised is that you're unable to use the new Android P navigation bar because HTC have their own version of the navigation bar (which is dated now) and this cannot be overridden. Another annoyance.

although I was a little annoyed with some of the changes at the start, such as clock now on left in status bar (the rest I forget tbh), overall I love it.
same speed as always across the board; apps, animations etc. with plenty of apps/files loaded.
1 thing that's really stood out for me has been the (learning) adaptive brightness. it's just awesome!
and so are the colours. screen looks so much better since pie, very impressed.

I think it is a good idea to factory reset when there is a big version change. For small versions it is enough to clear the cache.
Regarding digital well-being, I have been able to update it directly from the play store.
I see the navigation bar well. It doesn't frustrate me. I think it works correctly. And Android P gesture navigation would like to have it as an option but I'm sure I would change it back to the traditional method, so I don't worry too much.

Ha! Extremely sound logic. I bring up issues a recent update has introduced and your suggestion is I sell my phone and move to a far inferior platform. You really are a shining beacon of brilliant intelligence. Bravo to you, good sir.

I was just poking fun at how unhappy you seem to be with things not working.
Post-update issues are pretty common, and though annoying, nothing to get too worked up about.
Just wipe and move on, it's not so bad.
This is a forum of tinkerers, after all.
Totally happy, sorry.Plus i've been able to use Quick step module(oneplus recents).I love the UI and i haven't noticed any issues whatsoever.Sound mods also working as they should.I like it better now
Haven't met all the issues you're describing! My U11+ is working fine with Pie, just as it was with Oreo!
Any one updated to Android Pie yet? Any difference in battery life and device performance?
