Rooting can be done by flashing CF-ROOT for your firmware or Amit's Universal CF-ROOT. Custom Roms are customised roms which normally include enhancements and tweaks and are generally pre-rooted. Right now you are on Indian GB, but you can try out stock XXKPQ(2.3.6) which is the latest or Cranium/Galaxy v5 which are custom roms. All instructions are given in the development section... go through them.
READ THE INSTRUCTIONS CAREFULLY!!!
oooo okay so basically so far everyone is looking for ways to install a custom kernel onto stock rom, I'm the opposite. I have read about it being done before but what exactly is the procedure?
right now I have the stock kernel in the format of a .RAR, within the archive lies quite a number of files i.e. sound, kernel..
currently am using a CSL Mi-410 (FIH-FB0, OEM for Motorola Triumph, Ideos X6..) on tj_style's RC2.. trying to get the stock gingerbread kernel on it cuz apparently its bit more stable than the OC-ed custom kernel.
any advice would be greatly appreciated! Thanks!
I managed to install Promethius Project V1.4 ROM and Kernel on my AT&T Thrill (I was using perfectly here in Brazil prior the ROM installation) and I can't get cellphone signal.
I try to search for networks either select automatically but get a error searching.
Does any body reported it before and managed to get it to work?
Best Regards,
Felippe.
Flash back to your stock rom or flash a new rom, sounds like the rom is causing the problem

I managed to install 1.3 with kernel 1.2. Can't manage to work with 1.4 either 1.5 (no matter kernel I use).

Same happens here.
I have an brazilian p920h and it was running GB v20a stock without problems.
Then I flashed Promethius 1.5 rom and kernel.... BOOM no signal..
The weird thing is that when I access phone info under settings it shows no IMEI...
I really would like to use that rom and kernel but to be honest nowadays I just want to get my signal back...
Does anyone knows if it is possible to flash promethius 1.5 rom and kernel on a latin america p920h? Flashing another rom could restore my signal?
I've heard that signal could be fixed if you flash stock KDZ and then reflash the rom... but got no idea how to do it (don't want to solder my cable just to flash my phone)
good day to all..
im new with this phone..this one is a korean version of galaxy s1(shw m110s)
im confused with how to install custom roms here...
what do i need to download..a kernel or a custom rom?
thanks xda
Moved to General Q&A.
The kernel allows the ROM to communicate with the hardware specific to your device. All ROMs have a kernel build-in. If the custom ROM is designed fir your phone, it will work fine. If the ROM was intended for a device in the same family as yours, you can flash that ROM, then flash the kernel for your phone, & it'll work. If the ROM was designed for a completely different device, nothing will get it to work.
Remember to always do a nandroid backup before flashing stuff!!

Hey guys, sorry but I cannot seem to find any information on this.
I have a Samsung Galaxy S2, i9100, and I want to root it.
The problem I am having is that I am a [noob] yes I admitted it, but I cannot seem to find the ROM for my device.
I attached a screenshot of my device's about section.
Now I know that the steps are to use ODIN, and then download a CF root, but I can't seem to find my ROM. I am from an island called Trinidad & Tobago (Caribbean) and I have updated my device to ICS.
Can anyone please explain to me, what the hell do I have to do to root this device? I want to install a custom rom, if anyone can vouch for a nice smooth rom that looks great!
Thanks in advance!
Cheers!

This method needs to have an external card to your sii. Put the files both in external and internal card too. http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1501719

Now if u want to install a custom rom install first a custom kernel for samsung ics 4.0.3 (not aokp aosp) from here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1702166 and after install rom. U can do this using the temporary cwm u downloaded before. Is the safest way this because custom kernels had injected cwm and not using temporary cwm. Read well the instructions of the developer before installing , also check before installing a custom rom if it has a safe kernel because excists a brick bug at samsung roms 4.0.4 and +.
