Safe to install lookout on rooted device - AT&T Samsung Galaxy S II Skyrocket SGH-I727

I just rooted my skyrocket, is it safe to install lookout? My worry is that it will delete root/custom apps.

works fine i use it

I've used Lookout since I initially rooted back in November... I've run four different 2.3.6 GB roms since then and never lost root or encountered a problem.

Is it possible to lose root?

I've been rooted for awhile now but now every time I try to open a app that requires root it just hangs and then FCs or just tells me I don't have root access. The SU app just FCs as soon as I open it. Is there anyway to lose root? I can still boot into clockwork and flash a ROM. I read about the SU app having issues with some sense ROMs but I am on CM7, last release.
I had that problem a few weeks ago. When you rooted, did you use the 1-click or the hack kit? I originally used the 1-click, but the phone started having issues so I ended up getting some help and flashed back to stock, rerooted using the hack kit, flashed a new ROM and kernel, and haven't had any issues since. I believe there was a Superuser fix posted in the FAQ of the 1-click if that's the method you used.

Did you wipe data/cache/dalvik prior to flashing your ROM?

I used the 1-click awhile back and never had any issues. The superuser fix in that FAQ only pertains to Sense ROMS I believe. I'm on CM7 at the moment.

Yea, I always wipe prior to flashing even if it just an update. I may try to reflash latter tonight to see if that corrects it.
sounds more like a super user error. If your still having trouble try reinstalling the apk, and possibly going into recovery>advanced>fix permissions.

It let me update it from the market and now everything is good to go. Never even thought of trying that. I figured I already had the newest version since I was on the most recent CM7. Many thanks.

[Q] a little help

So I waited to register to this site till I ran into a road block. I have read and searched and search but to no avail have I come up with a answer. So I come to you fellow Samsung Infuse 4G owners for help. I have successfully rooted my phone with super one click, ran clockwork recovery and installed zeuss's build 6 and my phone runs great. Now here is my issue. My friend liked the way my phone was so he went and got a used one then handed it over to me to do the cool stuff. So I set the phone back to factory deleting everything including user data.... I now have installed the new version of one click and this new phone and it says it works and installed but when I run clockwork the superuser never pops up. Now I have checked The settings and its not the issue. I have since factory reset the phone again deleting user data and superuser was still on the phone. I've tried to remove it like 50 times to no avail until today when it finally went away after I tried again the unroot on superoneclick but after restart and I try to reinstall it, it says its already rooted, so I make it reroot and I still havve Tue same issue. I have tried to clear data and reinstall the packages via the Samsung recovery but it says there is a missing path on the internal SD. So now I'm stuck... its been like this back and forth for 3 days. So I ask for a bit of help as my first post. BTW I'm Dustin I'm 27 and I live in Washington state and I love my swet zeuses builded phone. Thanks in advance
Did you push the cwm recovery file to system/bin and fix the permissions

What can also do is....run these files in cwm install like a ROM no wipes, do this one 1st and install 2nd back to back:
http://db.tt/NUVg4mjr
Then install this one 2nd:
http://db.tt/fOv83rRY
{U.S.M.C.} "Fraternal Brotherhood of the Highest Order"
Odin it to the stock rooted with cwm 2.3.6 and install from from recovery there. What I do

So a little follow up..... first I wanna say thanks again for the help things worked out well. Had some issues with the recovery but he doesn't need it but its rooted so I did some fine tuning and he loves it. Atleast I know I can get good help here from other techies like myself. Cheers

How to remove the update notification?

Since my phone is rooted, the OTA update notification is on my phone. The first time it came, I tried to perform the update not knowing it would fail since it won't work on rooted phones.
It's not worth the hassle to me to 1: return the phone to stock, perform the update, and re-root the phone, or even not re-root the phone, or 2: load the rooted updated here.
I just want the OTA update to go away, keeping the phone like it is for now.
The notification is persistent through a restart, and I don't see a way to clear it. It's been like this for a few days now.
Any ideas?
Thanks.
In the same boat, would love to know if there's a way to get rid of this daily annoyance.
Go to the Android store and download NoBloat free(it has a Android holding an AK)...then go to system apps and look for the update notifier which is syncmldm2.apk, select it, then choose disable only...and viola! Its gone!

You could also freeze Device Management 2.0 with Titanium Backup.

I'm probably missing it, but I don't see Device Management 2.0 in the list, even if I filter all by name.
Do you mean Download manager 2.3.6?
Are you on stock and rooted? I was able to install the update on stock and rooted from kies. I did have to reroot and uninstall bloat ware again but everything else stayed in tact.

Yeah, stock rooted. Obviously I'm lazy with this, but I don't want to mess with Kies either. I'd have to a: reload it, install kies, get it working, load the update, re-root the phone, and *THEN* reconfigure/reinstall all my apps and settings.
Sorry, but I just want the notification icon to go away!
The first app that was mentioned, doesn't work either, nothing is listed as was described. There was one or two things similar, but not the same.
syncmldm2.apk is listed under Titanium as "Software update v3.1201.4.2". If removing that doesn't get rid of the notification, I believe wssyncmlnps.apk is also related to software updates. Remember to "nand you shizz" and titanium backup before removing either as it may cause instability (although it may not). I believe I removed the wssyncmlnps.apk or something similar on my Exhibit with little consequence- probably since they never intended on updating that thing...
I had that icon, I tried to install the update a few times (failed due to root) after a few failed attempts the icon gave up and went away.

All of my apps and settings stayed intact after the update over kies. I just had to reroot and uninstall the bloatware again.
The only way for you to get rid of the notification would be to update via Kies Software. Doesn't work via OTA when you are rooted, regardless if you're running the stock firmware. I just updated the firmware now with Kies, but oddly enough, the notification was still there! I clicked it and updated OTA, and it worked because the phone lost root upon the update via Kies. So yes, I had to update my device twice..
Well, time to re-root and uninstall bloatware.
EDIT: Well, upon restarting device, I am experiencing a lot of force closing issues. I reinstalled ClockworkMod Recovery and tried fixing permissions, but that didn't seem to work. Anyone have any ideas or fixes? Maybe I should reinstall my apps again.. >_>
Most likely you will need to wipe your phone and start fresh.

Seems like it, thanks for input.. I'm going to backup my apk's and data, and everything using MyBackup Pro, so I can speed up the whole process. Hopefully everything turns out good. Oh, one question, when upgrading to official stock ROM releases, you always have to wipe if your rooted?? If so, I never knew that..
EDIT: omg backup app not working! Help! I refuse to wipe if I can't backup my apps!
Sent from my SGH-T769 using xda-developers app
I wouldn't think so, but there is always the chance an app incompatibly with an upgrade can occur and muck it all up.
Have you tried using Titanium?
Ah, I see.
Titanium seems very popular.. I've never used it before. I guess I'll try it. If all else fails, I do have a Nandroid from yesterday.
EDIT: okay, everything is restored and back to normal. Thanks.

Mine went away today, without doing anything.
If only real problems would go away if you ignored them long enough.

[Q] ICS freezing randomly after rooting?

Hello all, I'm a newbie here. I have just updated to ICS yesterday and decided to root it today. The root process completed successfully without much drama, but I've noticed after the root, my phone is freezing up A LOT. ICS was silky smooth running Nova launcher before i rooted it, so the root must be the cause of the problem. Each time it freezes up, I must fully reboot the phone to have it working again. But since I don't see anyone else experiencing trouble, I assume it's some of the apps that are acting up instead of the actual root?
I never rooted 2.3.6, so I'm completely new to this rooting thing. If this is a common occurrence right after root and will get better over time, pls let me know so I can feel better lol. If not, how can i find out where the problem lies?
Doesn't sounds like root to me. do you have CWM? If not, flash it and then boot into recovery and clear your cache

Are you rooted with superuser or supersu? I am rooted with supersu without issue
Sent from my SGH-T769 using xda app-developers app
i followed this guide
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1919228
so i assume superuser? and i guess i have CWM
i think the problem is going away now...although i lost about 10% of battery...
hope this battery loss is part of the freezing and not part of rooting consequences..
Did you happen to restore any apps or anything after root? If not try a factory reset through cwm. Make sure you backup whats on your phone first

[Q] Unrooted with SuperSU & lost all data

My phone's been rooted ever since i got it and the only reason i was looking into unrooting it is because work email app won't install on a rooted device. i didn't want to return to stock and lock my bootloaders and all that as i really like the rom i'm using, which is Trickdroid 8.1. a lot of searching on the internet and several discussions pointed to using the unroot feature in supersu but i was under the impression that data on the phone would not be lost/deleted. boy was i wrong.
i went ahead to unroot in supersu and it took sometime to remove itself along with superuser app. unrooting seem to have worked as i am now able to install work email app BUT i just noticed all of my data is gone. anyone know what the hell happened?
I know there's not chance for me to get the files back but i'd just like to understand where I went wrong (if not). other than not backing up everything beforehand of course.
