I just read the galaxy tab 2 is getting the nvidias tegra 2 chip and android 3.0.
Maybe by then the gtab might be able get get the android 3.0 update.
Only time will tell.
Update: I read it on engadgets website.
The gtab will no doubt be able to run honeycomb, but we're going to have to rely on our wonderful devs to get us it (no way viewsonic does it, they've probably lost enough money as it is). I would actually rather skip 2.3 and just wait for a nice vanilla 3.0 port.

P990 even cannot , message from LG-
Dear , We will not be introducing Android 4.0, Ice Cream Sandwich updates on LG Optimus 2X P990. Keep watching this space for further updates.
---
What a shiiit job for even a dual-core phones they did, LC, damn you!
I Wish you will be kicked away from the phone market.
Seeing how slow is going the GB update, I don't even think about ISC...
First at all we have to find answers for this question:Is 3D Optimus able to update to Gingerbread in future?
Knowing LG I bet they're wasting their time THINKING about if they want to work on a gingerbread OR ICS release. In fact... they're probably not even thinking about their 3D phone in the first place.

I hope cyanogen will release a 4.0 rom.

well technically speaking our phone was also released before lg signed anything (they signed in august and o3d was released in july)... but we can hope for the best
Check the page on gsmarena.com
Cannot post the link due to forum spam protection, but there the quote;
Update:LG Mobile posted a reply to the same question in Facebook with the following:
We do have a plan to update Ice Cream Sandwich. Now we are working on it! When the date is set we will let you know through Facebook! Please check our wall regularly! Cheers.
The above post comes a few days after the initial negative response regarding the major OS update. It appears that the consumers' feedback has finally struck a cord within the company.

I think we get update to ICS.
[LG Official Statements on Ice Cream Sandwich OS Update]
LG firmly denies the rumors that claim LG will not be providing the Ice Cream Sandwich (ICS) OS update for the LG Optimus 2X. These rumors are NOT true. LG is currently in the process of planning the ICS OS update for the LG Optimus 2X as well as other LG high-end smartphones. Detailed information on the ICS OS update schedule for specific models will be announced, once the ICS OS is publicly released by Google. Please stay tuned for more updates from LG.
We will get ICS later on who knows when though...

Hello everybody
People here are hoping that our XDA developers would magically port ICS as soon as Google delivers the AOSP.
I heard that LG is still sticking with Froyo for Optimus 2x.
Only for T-Mobile they released Gingerbread update.
I heard that it was too using Froyo kernel.
Please correct me if I am wrong.
I think LG reluctance in not updating the 2x models with optimal versions is because of nvidia.
I think nvidia didn't yet given the drivers for gingerbread kernel to LG.
That is why LG didn't update Optimus 2x to Gingerbread and G2X to gingerbread kernel.
In this case I don't think nvidia would port drivers for this mobile phone to ICS at any day.
In that case, how XDA developers can use newer kernel for ICS port (even if it happens) than Froyo?

Not true. Gingerbread is out and can be downloaded in theO2X forums. Also LG has announced ICS is coming to the 2X and its other high end smartphones.

looks like the Opitmus 2X and other high end smart phones. So we will see it, one way or another.
We will know more some time in December.
I hope LG releases it for us but they never say g2x

I dunno, it's mighty conspicuous they did not say G2X....
Specifically, on Facebook it says:
"We are initially announcing LG Optimus smartphones that will have Ice Cream Sandwich OS upgrade!"
Then on the actual article it says:
"Optimus 2X, the Optimus Black, the Optimus 3D and the Optimus LTE."
That CLEARLY leaves out the G2X.
They are only focusing on the O2x because they originally said it wasn't getting ICS because it was out "before" the Google Update Contract. It was all over the web and now LG publically announced it was a rumor and said they are working on it.
We'll get it eventually. The G2x isn't that old yet. It technically should have been launched with GB. The GB update was promised Day 1 as "GB isn't finished yet, so we'll just launch it with Froyo to make everyone happy". GB update = doesn't count.
So there is no reason why 6 month old phone won't get updated. Probably won't be speedy though.
@above: Optimus 2x = G2x
Same line of hardware. Tmobile has to officially release the update for us... so it won't be announced via LG.

Had the same theory with the Samsung Vibrant. Galaxy S phone, right? So when Galaxy S phones worldwide got Gingerbread, the Vibrant should, too, right? Nope, it was different due to T-Mobile radio and T-Mobile didn't care to push an update. So every Vibrant user is still rocking Froyo while the rest of the Galaxy S world is running official Gingerbread. And don't say Cyanogenmod - support was so bad thanks to lack of closed driver support that CM9 is dropping support for the Vibrant completely, and CM7 never ran right on it.

That's not completely clear. As I recall, the Gingerbread update was originally directly from LG via their updater, and the OTA from T-Mobile followed that.
I am so tired of saying this, but here I go again. The G2X is an Optimus 2X device. To LG it is a 2X. The Optimus 2X line includes the P990, SU660 and the P999. The G2X badging was only for T-Mobile to continue their line of "G" high-end Android devices (i.e., G1, G2, G2X). It was easy for them and LG to just add a "G" to the front of the 2X name. That is why the P999 in Canada is a 2X. Only T-Mobile is allowed to use the G2X name. It is a proprietary name for T-Mobile only. It will get ICS so stop fretting about it already.

I guess I just get so nervous because I had the same story with the Vibrant... I hope you're right.
Anyway, I did get a response on LG's facebook that I made a few days ago. Not much info there.

Hey LG, since the P990 gingerbread update included the proper LG Camera, is there any way maybe just maybe you guys could push out a fixed LG Camera (NOT AOSP) for the P999 G2X? Many of us bought the phone for the great camera software which you took away with the Gingerbread update!

CM7 ran smooth as hell on my vibrant. Still is now and my son is using it.
O2X=G2X
If o2x gets official ics I'm 100% sure g2x will have a fully optimized ics rom.

It ran smooth, but GPS was flaky (you couldn't turn it off, or it wouldn't turn back on until you rebooted) and the battery life was pathetic compared to stock.

Agreed but this obviously isn't Samsung. We've already had an update and have NO reason to suggest we won't be getting more updates.
NVidia and LG have closed drivers but that doesn't stop development. Everyone labels LG as being a bad manufacture based on bad experiences with Samsung.
While I would like more "openness" around the device as a whole, I do ultimately blame NVidia. Even on Desktop Linux boxes, NVidia is hush hush.
IMO, looking at LG or any other manufacture, it doesn't really pay-off to release source code within the first year. You have to think that manufactures have to warranty the devices for a year and people boinking their hardware over some poorly self-compiled driver only costs them money.
I predict we'll get an official ICS upgrade and be shut down. The question is if we'll get a new kernel or if they still pimp that Froyo version!

ICS cannot run on the old kernel. It will have to be a new kernel, and more than likely, a new baseband also (as Qualcomm is continually updating the baseband code to finetune it, so there is no reason for LG not to improve the device with a baseband update also).
I've long figured that while there was a small chance LG wouldn't release ICS for the G2x there was a much bigger chance they would.
Here's my logic: The launch of the phone was a disaster from a PR perspective and left a lot of people considering other manufacturers for their next phone. As a result LG has a lot of ground to make up in terms of consumer trust. In terms of repairing their reputation releasing ICS for the G2x would go a long way to rebuilding the trust they lost. As long as LG's beancounters determine that the money put into developing ICS for the G2x is worth it LG will do it.

Why do people on this board whine about this phone so much? There was nothing wrong with the Gingerbread build. It is a very stable and fast stock Android build. If you don't like it install one of the custom roms based on it or CM7.

Any updated news on Ice Cream Sandwich because last I heard LG was unsure whether it would be releasing ICS for LG Optimus 2X. So, is there a confirmation if LG is dropping or will eventually introduce ICS to the G2X.
Also, I heard that you if any device with the Tegra chip got ICS it would make the drivers available so is there any other prospective devices that might be getting ICS that devs can steal drivers from?

There isn;t a release yet, but the Optimus 2x forum is following lg's korean twitter, and it says they are in a beta testing stage. If it gets releases, The CM team and other devs can extract drivers and carry them to the g2x. It'll come sooner or later :fingers-crossed:
