One X gets CM9, where's our love? - HTC One S

So the One X quad core version has gotten CM9 released already, in very functional form. Here's to hoping that the One S gets some CM love soon. I know there's a project in the works, but it looks like xkonni is the only one working on it.

Jesus I thought it'd be years lol. Fair play I was wrong.

So little dev for One S.....sad to let it go for Gnex.....
One S is the best phone I had to date. Put CM9 and AOKP on this and I dont need anything else !

not to be rude or offensive or whatever you guys call it, but people need to chill a lil bit. it has literally just been a week since the device was released and its ovious not to have a **** load of developement going on.
The one x with tegra got cm9 because it has tegra 3, and since cyanogenmod team had already worked on porting cm9 to tegra 3's when the asus transformer prime was released, it was easier for them to port it to t3 one x.
But our one s and att's one x have krait s4 processors on them which is totally new to the market and it will take some time for devs to port the drivers and stuff for aosp to this processor.
And since out kernel source has not been released yet, it will definitely be difficult to port stuff. I bet the developement will start to boost once htc releases kernel sources. And we are comparatively a lot ahead in developement already compared to att one x

FWIW the dev that did CM9 on the One X isn't part of the CM team. We're ahead of the AT&T One X because it doesn't exist yet.

Will we get CM9?

So I saw recently that the CyanogenMod team was having issues with ICS and their features and because of it older phones such as the Nexus one may not even get CM9, so do you think we'll get it at all then? The Inspire is a rebranded DHD, which is the brother to Nexus One. I searched the CM thread but couldn't find anything on this subject, I was thinking about buying a Galaxy Note (even though I'm not one for Samsung phones) if the Inspire will never get a proper version of ICS (no offense to all the AOSP builders out there).

Don't rush, the Nexus One and the DHD/Inspire 4G are very different in terms of hardware, the Nexus has an older GPU, CPU hence the RAM management and instruction set are very different, even though they are clocked at the same speed (1ghz) For instance compare the Sensation against SGS2 or even the RAZR the difference in performance regardless the clock speed is way different.
Most likely the DHD/INSPIRE will get CM9 due to its superior HW.

I agree completely. There is no reason that we shouldn't see a cm7 for the inspire.
Sent from my HTC Inspire
Its all about the drivers for the hardware and weather the hardware can run ICS. HTC has said the DHD will get ICS later this year. But I saw nothing about the Nexus One. Check on the HTC website. Once HTC releases the drivers then CM team can go to work.
Yes, it will get it. But Cyanogen is working on exynos powered phones right now

Considering there's already an ICS Beta build out there (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1450962) with as good as everything working except HD video hardware acceleration and minor bugs, I'm pretty sure we'll get CM9. Maybe the CyanogenMod team will update the newer dual-core phones first, but I think we'll have support soon
They will get around to it. Until then, I have been using the IceColdSandwitch rom 1.5 test 5 as a daily driver. HD Video (Netflix) and the Camcorder functions do not work. Also, the camera (at higher resolutions) has a glitch but overall a great rom. Very fast!
Im also on IceColdSandwich, great for now. I will be switching to cm9 when it comes out though.
Guys WE all know the Rules with CM roms. Dont ask for an ETA. I am sure we will see it once the source for the DHD ICS is released.

[Q] Is anyone looking into porting the international One X roms to the XL??

I know, sounds like a complete noob question....
but seriously, I'm coming from an Inspire 4G/Desire HD, where roms were able to be used on like 10 devices.
Is anyone looking into getting ROM's ported to the One XL from the tegra 3 One X?? Seems like it would be an awesome way to get our (slowly moving) dev section going. I love what we have done, there just isn't much going yet. I would love to get into this myself, but my ROM building experience is still very low.
Until we get kernel source we're on hold. Besides the tegra vs krait differences there are different radios to contend with.
i keep forgetting how important kernal source is....thanks for the reply hope HTC releases it soon, 30 days is coming up soon
is it HTC's policy to release kernel source after 30days?
...and even with kernel source, we'll still need S-OFF (complete nand) access, and from what i've gathered that could be awhile

There's another thread floating around that quotes an HTC rep saying 90-120 days.
i thought it was law to release within 30 days?
We don't need s-off. Look at the dev section on the international hox. They don't have s-off. Plenty of roms without it.

A little hope to be official.

The CyanogenMod team will be dropping support for devices with the older processors including the Nexus One & the Bravo (many more, too).
I think this means The CyanogenMod team will start focusing one more devices with dual-core processors. I think.. including the Blaze 4G. What do you guys think.?
Sent from my bathroom.
Not unless we get a SGS4G in the hands of a dev, or convince one of them to grab it over something else.
Didn't know the S3 chip is old lol. My brother has a Galaxy S3 and honestly in everyday performance this phone does not fall behind and often surpassed the S3. I tested both phones in a bunch of games and tasks. The number of cores on a phone is a bit overestimated.

i don't think we will get an official update from the cyanogenmod team!

while the CPU for our phone came out almost 2 years ago, it's capable of running ICS just fine... the T989 is proof of that, it's virtually identical to ours. What we need is the kernel sources for this phone for ICS and that can only come from Samsung. Once that is released, setting up ICS should be easy. Hell, we could just copy the majority of the T989 (T-Mo SGS2) source tree for CM.

Best Phones for Testing APKs?

We need to buy about 2 phones for testing some custom android apps we've built.
Does anyone have suggestions on what the best phones for testing would be?
I was thinking something with HTC sense on it, and something with stock android on it. Both need to be able to s-off and root easily.
erm... the google dev phones (nexus) ?? Personally I use galaxy nexus most for this kinda thing
For any kind of software testing, you need to know how it will function on both the latest and greatest devices, as well as the oldest hardware you intend to support.
I'd think for the price of two top-tier 2012 phones, you could buy 1 top of the line current phone, one from last year, and one from 2 years ago. Possibly also include Sense, Touchwiz and vanilla android.
Something running GB and something running ICS/JB. Many phones are still on GB so a used device running GB would be useful to test on.
Test it on emulator first?

Yes for sure it's the first thing to do,but not always if it works on emulator it will work on specific phone
Nexus one and galaxy nexus. Then you've got gingerbread and jellybean covered
If you need a newer phone for testing , the Galaxy Nexus is an obvious choice .
If you need a older phone ( old hardware ) to test yous apps , have a look at Nexus 1 or HTC Desire , it can run flawlessly 2.2 , 2.3 and 4.0.4 . I have a Desire on ICS ( BCM ) so I can tell .

HD2? ROMs range from Android 2.1-4.1 (AOSP, AOKP, CM), Sense 2.0-3.5 (one discontinued Sense 4 alpha), TouchWiz + GB, Xperia Arc GB, MIUI etc. It's also got similar specs to a low-range phone nowadays so that would be a good choice I think. In addition, a One X probably.

It seems it is indeed no contest there.
Does the Galaxy Nexus come with Sense by default? (It's been a while since I've looked into these. Last Android phone I owned was a droid bionic and before that the htc hero.)
We definitely are going to support gingerbread, so we'll need a little bit of an older phone too. I'm sure breaking it up like that into 3 or so phones is ok, as long as they fall under budget.
And yeah, the dev tests with emulators, but I'm QA on this project so I get to play with them real-world once he's done and find more bugs.

GNex is a Nexus phone, so why would it come with Sense?
Anyway, the best choice is still the HD2 IMO. You can test it on all versions of Android from 2.1-4.1 and it's incredibly cheap, with specs which are not too bad (1GHz Snapdragon with 576MB RAM) for the price. If you can get the app to run smoothly on the HD2 the likelihood is that it will run on any newer phone.
IMHO you have yo use a stock device.. nexus as all the docs suggest. Custom ROMs have additions substitutions and tweaks that in a dev sense are not baseline. Although the differences are minimal or should be. Better to play safe. So nexus s and galaxy nexus.. Google provide stock ROMs for these in dev device downloads.

Noted. Thanks.
And yeah, that's cool that some of these phones support plenty of roms, but I don't want to be flashing 3 different roms every time the dev iterates a new point (v.2) update. I'd rather have 2-3 phones ready to go. (seems lazy, but I've got a lot of other work to do to
We got a droid (motorola timestamp issues), a Galaxy Nexus, and an hd2. So the hd2 comes stock with windows mobile? This is strange to me.

Well, the hd2 does have a lot of support, but when the top threads in the device specific forum warn of how unstable and beta-ish android development is on this phone, then I'm not really as excited as I was. might end up returning this one.

htc one x- kitkat thread

I thought it would be good to start a threat about kitkat anticipation and also when a ROM is spotted we would have a place to talk about it. A lot of people are porting the HTC one ROMs to the one x and there is some CM kitkat ROMs already on the HTC one. So maybe we can find someone to port it soon. Its already apparent that the sense versions are behind . the HTC one has 4.3 and sense 5.5.. Pure android seems like it will be the only way for new ROMs
I feel as though we should leave kitkat alone and mainly focus on the roms at hand, but I definately would not mind a nice piece of chocolate if you catch my drift

I'm not sure why you see that. There were at least 2 or 3 devs that ported Sense 5 over from the M7 to the EVITA (before HTC released Sense 5 for us officially). As long as there is interest by devs, I don't see why they wouldn't do the same again for KitKat and Sense 5.5. True, the hardware hurdles will be an issue. But AOSP ROMs will experience their share, as well.

Team Venom has released the Viper ROM for the HTC One. They released ViperXL for ours. Seems like they have all the necessary talent and tools to put together a new ViperXL release with 4.3/Sense5.5
I am pretty sure Kit Kat is going to be a while. It would be really cool to get a 4.3 Rom good enough to be a daily driver. They are getting there. We still have a healthy Dev community.
Sent from my HTC One XL using Tapatalk
As far as 4.3 being a daily driver, I'm running PAC 4.3.1 with touched 6.1 kernel with no problems, I use it as a daily driver. I've been on 4.3 maybe a month with little to no problems. So I think 4.4 is looking good for our phones

While you're having success with that ROM there have been several problems plaguing 4.3 ROMs, that's what's being referred to.

Also saw in some other thread a screenshot of Evita running CM11 (H8's screenshot, I think), so yeah. :good:
4.4 Kit-Kat is officially coming to The HTC One in January of 2014 So hopefully we see a nice port come to our One X/L
Unfortunately it's pretty difficult to port from the One due to the different chipsets and resolution, it just doesn't work properly. A port would need to come from a similar device, like maybe the One Mini.

HTC releases their updates on time. Blame your carrier for the delays

I've read in many places that Evita is going to get even an Android 5 update, so "Why so disappointed?"...
After all, it has been a flagship phone for several months and is still a powerful one in the markets
I seriously doubt this phone will ever get Android 5.0 as an official update, I'd put money on it. I'm not sure where you read that but it's highly unlikely. We're probably not even going to officially see 4.3 or 4.4.

I'm fairly certain that the Evita is done for updates. Also, HTC has a horrendous record of keeping their promises when it comes to release dates. Remember that update we were supposed to get at the end of November? Remember how it wasn't released until march nearly 5 months later? I do. That's when I rooted my phone.

No we are supposedly getting a Sense 5 Update (Android 4.2 from Android 4.1.1 I think) But AT&T won't get it till next November probably
You're not quite right about that. HTC push their own non-carrier updates to their non branded/Asian models and they do have a terrible record of keeping promises and getting them out on time, if at all.

Hey guys I have the international version but both versions seem to be abandoned by HTC but there is a glimmer of hope as Google want 4.4 pushing out to all devices capable of running it so hopefully HTC will update all the one series phones eventually.
Google can't even get their own nexus (galaxy) updated. What makes you think they can make HTC do it. This phone won't get any more updates. The next HTC one will be out soon and all focus will go for that.
