Exchanged Vibrant for g2x, guide to ics from stock? - T-Mobile LG G2x

Hey all, I've been rocking an android phone since the day the G1 came out, then got a Vibrant, and now a G2X. I'll have my phone shipped to me on the 5/1 and wanted to get ICS on this baby right away. So far I've gathered that I install the LG drivers, use nvflasher to flash clockworkmod and do a nandroid to external sd, once done that I can flash a rom of my choice correct? I'm interested in AOKP, what are people's suggestions and is there an Updated guide/wiki, because the sticky bible seems outdated.
So any quick tips/tricks would be awesome, totally new to LG, since ive used HTC and Samsung phones in the past.
Thanks,
defcon

Ummmm go to your settings and look at ur baseband. If its March 2012, then you can only load the stock rooted for now
Sent from my LG-P999 using XDA

right now kwes roms are the only functioning ones until the devs catch up and fix it. However, if you go the lg website, you should be able to flash a previous update and then flash any rom of your choice. recommendations for ICS, EaglesBlood, HellFireSandwich, CM9, and pretty much any other ICS rom. Just be warned CM9 might eat the battery.

[Q] new to this device but what is the best rom?

i went from sensation to g2x so I'm back here again but what is the best rom rite now? its been a long time so yea i don't know but you can you guys tell me
Cm7 to me does the job

I use CM7 as well, works great for me, but I really like ASOP and have used CM on my past 7 phones
First off, update the device with the LG Software Updater so you'll get the new baseband. Then you can flash any gingerbread ROM you'd like, and keep the new baseband.
From my experience I have tried xboarders 1.2.2, eaglesblood both 2.3.3 and 2.3.5, and of course CM7. They are all great roms. I have not used MIUI yet or any others but have heard good things about all of them. A Rom is really going to come down to personal preference. I am currently rockin CM7 and it is awesome! If you want to customize the look of your phone I would highly recommend giving CM7 a try. Remember, when installing CM7 to also install google gapps. That will allow you to link your google account to your phone. Try all the roms out. Once you have root it is super easy to flash whatever rom you want.

Rogers i727r Rooting and Roms?

Last week I got the i727r from my work and was wondering if I have to be careful which roms I use. I am not on the rogers network but have unlocked it and using it with another network currently.
Am I ok installing at&t based roms in this case or do I have to be picky on what I install.
I have previous experience with rooting and installing roms, but seems like there might be some hickups.
Thanks in advance
From what I understand by reading the rogers based roms usually play nice with att but I don't know about the carrier your using.
Sent from my Xoom using xda premium
There are some minor differences make sure the rom says it will work with the rogers version of the phone.
If it's a work supplied phone you most likely should not be flashing roms on it as if you ever need to fall back to odin or if you brick it then that's not cool.
It's not I work phone I just work for a dealer so it's unlocked working with my current provider. I had no problems getting root working and tried a few roms just nothing seems to satisfy my geek yet for the i727.
Seems like most of the roms are debloated versions of the stock rom, but the stock rom works so well I am not unhappy with it.
I do understand the risks of rooting and roming I have been doing it since the HTC G1 (Oldschool android lol) just my first Samsung experience all I can say is WOW!
Thanks for the advice and the answers!
Keep the community rocking
If you flash att roms youll need to change your apn settings. And should flash red sonja rom
Debloated rogers rom is fine for now. I'm running the Go launcher with ICS theme and Roboto font and it is nice. We'll have to wait for new official roms to get some better 3rd party roms and that includes that Red rom.

Which ROMs are recommended for a SGHi727r? I have recently acquired the cell (and love it) but the guy in the store says its sooo much more capable when it isn't stock. (with stock settings, the cell would last only half a day... until I got JuiceDefender, now it lasts a full day hehe)
I was wondering which ROMs you more experienced guys would suggest. (and that would be ROMs that do not increment the flash counter of course, still not sure of how this works, however I do know how to verify it) My phone was rooted by using SuperOneClick

Be carefull
just be really careful what roms you are using i almost brick my phone twice using a i727 rom not really compatible with the i727R
so if you are not good with computer and dont know how to restore kernel, original roms and cwm to do hard reset and clean cache (cause sometime the ok button in android 3e recovery is not working at all ) with odin you will be ****ed !
im still looking for a stable version so if anyone have a good one please keep us inform
You will never brick flashing any 727 roms as far as use they should all work with proper setup pay attention to what your doing and bam problem solved
Sent from my SAMSUNG-SGH-I727 using Tapatalk 2
I have tried almost every rom on here, and have only had problems with certain MIUI due to the recovery i use. For Battery i found Alien ICS had the best battery it can be found here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1608088
If you want to stay on ginger bread then i would recommend TPC found here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1357506
Now I know your not on rogers but if you need name display and want to use ICS you will have have to use an UCLE2 ROM/Modem. The best way is to read a lot i did and make your own decisions and just remember as long as you can get into Download mode you can use Odin to go back to stock
I have been using the CM9 ROM's since they came out, and they are fast, no buggier than any others, and I can get quite literally 24 hours on a charge with over 2 hours of screen time. Right now I have been on battery for 2.5 hours and I am still at 96%.
I personally don't think you can go wrong with CM9, but that's just my opinion, and you know what they say about those...
I have flashed pretty much every i727 ROM on my i727r and haven't had a problem.

Royal Bank APP
Hey guys.
Just wondering is there a solution for downloading apps which are made for canadian based roms but i am use Sky ICS.
Basically it says that the software is not supported for this device. Is there a way to change the ID in the phone software so Google Play sees the device as a I727R (rogers).
Be nice if rogers would get their act together and release their rom so the community can start creating custom roms with it.
Thanks.

New Atrix 2

I just bought an Atrix 2 today for my girlfriend. Hi Atrix people
So could someone introduce me?
My phone is the photon and I love it! One thing I've noticed from browsing this thread is that there isn't much ics support going on. Could someone tell me why? I thought the only real differences between the Atrix and Atrix 2 is the cam and a few minor features.
Anyways I'm really just interested in what's going on with ics for the Atrix 2. Anything I should know or be up to date on for cm9 or anything ics?
Sent from my I9300 using XDA
Unfortunately we don't yet have an unlocked bootloader, which is holding up development. There are a couple of devs working on a bootloader bypass from what I've read. So as soon as they have it ready and working then I think development will start kicking. I think there are a couple of devs working on an ics port as well.(fingers crossed!)
Sent from my MB865 using XDA
Thanks for the quick reply. Has anyone tried communicating with other Motorola devs? Like from the photon, razr, current moto androids. With the photon I know that its bootloader was unlocked redneck style just to get the roms rolling. We had to sacrifice 4G (wimax) data but it was worth it.
Within a month we had several choices for ics with everything working. And anything gingerbread was perfect. No need for an "issues" section in OP lol
Sent from my I9300 using XDA
Uh, yeah. We have a few ROMs. There are very few actual issues. A lot of the problems come from people not knowing what they're doing or making simple mistakes (i.e they read something wrong) the phone itself is very solid and stock works great. Just make sure you root it.

I'll be rooting in a few days just sad that ics is almost nonexistent on this phone. The other roms from what I've read seem pretty solid. But the only one that I'm interested in is still barely alpha and from the OP its not stable enough to use as a daily...

Well, CM9 is actually fairly stable minus the radio and sd card functionality (which can be fixed by flashing a zip). And we're just waiting on bl unlock/bypass or a leaked early Moto build of ICS for our A2 so we can get the radio working.
ICS will be around sometime in July-September. We're hoping to get it through cheesecake probably in June or late May.
The CM9 Nightly build you are talking about is VERY shaky.
Most of these GB Roms are very smooth, fast and stable. I'm currently using Lithium and I love it.
Just be patient. It's coming.
We are supposed to get am ota release of ics in q3 of this year. That's not to far down the line.

When it comes to Motorola don't expect a leaked ics before its released. They aren't know for that. Also what zip do I need to get calling and SMS working for cm9? I started reading through the thread but got distracted working on my cm9 build for the inspire

That might be true... but we got the 2.3.6 update from cheesecake months in advance, so once we have that we should have a stable CM9 build.

Leaked? Of course not. We just pull it straight off their development servers .
Calling/sms/data do not work in CM9 for the A2 because we need a functional ICS radio which we don't have atm. Once Moto starts pushing early builds to their servers we should be able to pull the necessary radio files and get a stable(ish) CM9!

I believe its possible without the sources from Motorola. I've seen several other roms do this just fine without any kind of manufacture support

Exactly. We don't need help from Motorola. It would just make things easier. I miss the devs from the first Atrix. Geniuses when it came to porting ics to that phone and when I talked to some of them they told me this phone should be a breeze compared to the Atrix and photon considering the tegra CPU/gpu. Which at the time before the Xoom got ics they had nothing to go off of and pretty much completely redesigned the basic arm7 chipset to trick the phones into thinking that's what it had inside

The SD card problem can be fixed (through a flashable zip). This is because other phones such as the Droid X have really common radios which developers have already written ICS drivers for. The Atrix 2 has a completely different radio that really doesn't have any similarities with any other Motorola. We only have a couple of actual devs really familiar with linux/android. We're lucky enough to have the Droid 3 build work as well as it does... Just wait. Only a couple more months

We don't need to wait. Other devices have done it without help from other devices and even when done so it may pull from several other devices instead of just one. Also can someone explain to how joker was able to build a cm9 build for the Atrix 4G with only cyanogenmod sources and some Google parts? Do we not have anyone on this device knowledgeable enough of Linux or cyanogen to build from source instead of from the Droid 3 or use some of droids cm9 and build the rest from source? Ics drivers have been optimized for the CPU and we don't need a ics radio or ics radio drivers for ics. The Atrix and photon still use stock gingerbread radio and radio drivers for its build with minor ics tweaks to get them running. 90% of ics builds still use gingerbread radio source with no problem. The other 10% are devices with ics leaks or releases.
Btw can someone please send me the work that's been done so far on cm9 or do I need to get it from the Droid 3 forum? Has anything been done other than changing branding to get it working or was it just "oh its cdma guess we'll wait"?

[Q] Eaglesblood ICS AOSP and clockworkmod

I'm having a problem with clockworkmod app and Eaglesblood ICS AOSP. I've seen tons of videos and comments about how sweet this ICS is and all of those comments are coming from owners of the lg g2x (P999). Seems like I'm the only one out in the dark as to how exactly to get this to work. I'm running the basic NVFlash S/W update (2.3.3) March 11, 2012 baseband. I'm becoming a professional at bricking/unbricking this thing, ha ha ha. For some reason, I cannot get clockworkmod or any of it's roms to install, except the Eaglesblood ICS Aosp. It goes through it's fancy, and really cool, intallation but when it reboots the g2x it displays the LG logo first, followed by the red Eaglesblood android with wings logo, then repeated does this. What am I doing wrong here? HELP, PLEASE!
Have you tried redownloading the zip? Also when you're in recovery you should wipe data/factory reset + format system before flashing the zip
If you are on the 2012 Baseband you can only make calls on the stock rom or CM7 RC3 as no other rom right now has working in-call audio on that baseband
Well it automatically goes into the installation process. Yes I've tried downloading the zip again.

Have you tried reflashing CWM using your computer?
I would advice installing cmw touch. It is pretty smooth and works on my g2x.
If I helped you, push the thanks button for goodness sakes!
You're running March 2012 baseband? I thought none of the CM7/CM9 source were working properly with this baseband. I dunno about the AOSP builds
I was in the same boat as yourself... The information is getting overwhelming at times... it's nice to search and all... Been doing this for a few months already and the different info, versions, everyones versions is getting to a point you have no clue what to install...
I had tried diffent NVFlash + CWM without success. Some people even suggested using ROM Manager (DON'T).
So I got lucky! I fell on a post with CWM 5.0.2.8 and NVFlash to be ran under Windows. Finally that worked! Then ROMS started doing the same as you. Just booting and not going past the splash screens.
I'm currently running EaglesBlood AOSP 4.0.4... This is one of the first ROMs I have had that pretty much has minor bugs. The rest I tried had issues with Wifi and 4G...
So perhaps you could search for that version of CWM, might work for you. (I'll try to find that info for you where I downloaded it, I'm mad at myself for not bookmarking it )
EDIT: This is the CWM install I performed... http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=24087341#post24087341
There are very few ROM's that work on the new baseband and last I checked EB ROM's were no exception. cm7 rc3 apparently works on the new baseband, but thats the only one I'm currently aware of.

[Q] New to the infuse forums and suffering from information overload and confusion

New to the infuse forums (so hoping I don't get beat up too much) basically Im trying to Downgrade my brothers infuse from the att ota gb update uclb3 back to froyo or upgrade to a custom gb rom, he is super pissed at me because his phone is super laggy and im the one that updated his phone. Tried to read through stuff but got a lil confused as the title states (I think I got spoiled from the i777 forums) any how if someone can point me to a good guide to follow from rooting to installing a rom or just reverting to stock froyo and a nice stable rom suggestion that would be nice. odin method preferred as i have no experience with heimdall. again appreciate the help and sorry if this is a redundant post (puts on flame retardant suit :angel
Links to everything needed for the infuse from Root to Unbrick(restore to stock froyo, or GB), to Custom ROMs and MODs can be found Here in an orderly fashion.

I myself suggest using Qksters Heimdall One Click to get the phone back to stock Gingerbread UCBL3, Using SuperOneClick to root the phone, then as far as custom ROMs, Might I suggest AEON v1.4?

Heimdall One Click can be found here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1524081

Thanks got a little overwhelmed sooo many guides lol. So since he is on the borked att gb already (came with froyo out of the box) guess I'll move on to rooting and installing a custom rom. Thinking of sticking with gb based roms. Taking the kiss approach since my brother is not that tech savvy and my goal is to find the most stable rom for him (his answer to bugs is bro fix this now!!!) Lol he did want ics cause he saw mine but idk how stable the ics roms for the infuse is yet so I got reading to do. Guess he'll just have to put up with att crap a day or two longer.

If you can use heimdall, the simplest way is to put the phone into download mode and flash my uclb3 stock package or adam outler's stock package.
The second post in each op contains the insecure kernel. These kernels are also flashed in download mode. Once these custom kernels are flashed, you can boot into CWM and then flash the custom firmware you want.
If you are familiar with Odin, check out some of jscott30's thread. He has several Odin premade rooted firmware package that are also very nice.
Once you have the firmware you want, Zen has cooked up a few kernels that can overclock at 1400 or 1600. These will provide quite a bit of speed over stock kernels.
