Gameboid File converting - General Questions and Answers

Hi all, as you may see by my info, I am a new forumer. I have been stumped on this question the last few days though. How would I trade Pokemon from the Gameboid emulator. So I come across tutorials teaching one how to trade, but it never seems to work for me. I would like to know how to at least convert my .sav file to work for vba link or TGB Dual. Thanks for any answers.

I would also like to know how to do that, has anyone been fortunate to convert a gameboid file into a format where the file can be played on the PC?

Please answer.

Hi guys!
Converting the Gameboid file to work on the VBA emulator is quite (very) simple.
@Firefrazed : I'm not sure about the TGB Dual emu, but I'm guessing it's similar to VBA in terms of where the sav files are placed.
1. Save the Pokemon Game in-game, as in Select>Save.
2. Go to My Files in your phone (phone SD Card directory, I'm assuming its there) and search in the Gameboid folder for the XXXXX.sav file (with the XXXXX being the name of your game.
3. Use bluetooth or some SD card reader to copy and transfer this file to your PC.
4. In your PC, navigate to "Battery Saves" (for VBA).
5. Replace the current XXXXX.sav file with the one you obtained from your phone, or if you haven't save a game on the VBA yet, ignore this step and just paste your phone's XXXXX.sav in the "Battery Saves" folder.
As for the VBA-Link issue, have you checked this out yet? http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QnZusVRiDfk
And you're done! Hope this helped!
Cheers!

Cheers, zephyrsurreal.
I never actually thought about using Battery saves.

hi there! i have a similar problem, so i thougt i post it here:
i have been using the gameboid emulator to play pokemon (ahh childhood memories ). but the problem is: i put the rom into a dropbox folder, so everytime i navigated to the dropbbox folder, clicked on the rom (its a .zip file) and chose open with gameboid. i save the game via gameboid.
now i want to trade pokemon, so i needed the save game to transfer it on my pc. but the problem: there is no save game in the dropbox folder and there is also no folder on the sd card that would have the save game in it.
i tried saving the game in game, this generated a .sav file in the folder on my sd card (where the gameboid bios file is) but when i use this save game its not working on the pc emulator (using VBA).
i think this has something to do with playing out of dropbox... any help would be greatly appeciated...
ps: i also tried to import the .sav file via battery save, but i did not work, it loaded correctly but it started the game, as there was no savegame at all (right from the beginning)

Hi there Sir Schwanzelot!!!
I just read and i thik you can resolve the problem with this:
type-Flash (128KB) then on VBA i go to Options-Emulator-Save type-Flash 128 KB then go to File-Import-and click on the file your phone made with your saved game and it will usually say something like the internal battery is dry but should still load your game.
I had the same problem, and with that...i resolve it .
I hope it works to you...

Bump
So I'm playing Leaf Green and Fire Red. I managed to trade my Ivysaur from Leaf Green to my Fire Red save. How do I get that save to work on my phone because VBA saves it as a different file I do believe so Gameboid doesn't find it.

Thanks guys, these have been really helpful. However, I still not have gotten this to work. I set Gameboid to save at Flash 128K and set VBA to do the same. I take the .sav file from the sd card on my phone and copy it over to my PC (I don't see a battery saves file anywhere so I put it in the same folder the .GBA file is in). I go to import it as a battery file and it says "Importing a snapshot file will erase any saved games and reset the emulator. Are you sure you want to continue?" I hit yes and it loads the game up from the start. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

I have a problem too. I've never had this problem before, but my Gameboid battery save file is being stubborn and staying at 32K. I do the usual thing of saving in the game while the emulator settings are at Flash 128K, but the battery save file is at 32K which doesn't allow me to use it on VBA at all. I've tried using other save types on Gameboid such as SRAM and Automatic and all the other save type options it gives, but the battery save file is always stuck at 32K. Even still, I hoped and tried every single type of save file option on Gameboid with VBA. I tried importing the battery save on VBA with every single save type option that it gives. There was no way for me to open the 32K battery save file. So can someone help me figure out how to make a battery save that's 64K or 128K?? It would be greatly appreciated.
The game I'm trying to save at 64K or 128K is Megaman Battle Network 6: Cybeast Gregar. I don't use cheats or anything. I'm simply playing the game and hoping that there's a way to make it save in the game like any other normal game I've played. At least the ones that allowed me to make battery saves that is..

Same problem here. I wasn't to move my VBA save from PC to gameboid and wise versa. It doesn't work. I checked. Gameboid says file is corrupted and was deleted.

This describes my issue and troubleshooting steps exactly. Although I would like to clarify: "I hit yes and it BEGINS the game from the start (as in the very beginning opening scene and button descriptions".

And update to anyone else who comes along. I solved my issues of GameBoid Advance to VBA by using VBA 1.72 instead of 1.8. I haven't gotten to actually trading anything yet. But now at least my save file from GBA (on my android phone) loads on VBA (on my PC).
Unless I post more, assume the trading worked as well.

Psx4droid saves!

ok i found out what it is we need to do to use save files from other emulators or dexdrive saves on our evo's.
1st. there are many dexdrive saves located at http://www.gamefaqs.com. goto the ps1 list, select your game and then goto the tab "saves". dexdrive saves are full dumps of ps1 memory cards. these files are in .gme format and we need to convert them over to .mcr format.
then download this http://www.aldostools.org/memoryconverter.zip. it is a memory card file converter. it will not run in windows 7 64 for me. i ran it in a xp virtual machine that i have built and it worked just fine. other os's i have no clue about. when you run it, it asks you for the memeory card file. use the .gme file and then hit convert. it defaults to saving it as a bleem save game but if u click the drop down menu and select the top .mcr file, epsxe i think, and then click finished.
now connect your phone to the pc and toggel usb. go the the .psx4droid directory and copy your files here. i had allready made a save game and just renamed the new one to the one i allready had.
Dude you're the man! Thanks, this is exactly the information I was looking for. The program I used was different from yours: http://moberg-dybdal.dk/psxge/
It works on windows 7, though I can't make it save more than 1 save per memory card, so I use card 2 for the dexdrive save. Also, it saves it as a different format, I think ".mcd" but I just renamed the file "mem0002.mcr" or whatever that stock name was, and it works just fine.
Thanks again bro! The psx4droid's usefulness has definitely gone up big time!
PS save states to PSX4droid save states
This is great to use with Memory cards but I was trying to find a work around for some games which freeze at the start screen.
I was hoping to take the .psv save state I can get from a pre loaded Metal Gear Solid and then convert it to the same type of save state in psx4droid and do a quick load and see if I can skip the title screen thus enabling me to play the game from where the save state left off.
The load option freezes in MGS as well so my memory card save from my PC psx emulator does not do me any good.
Oddly enough the disc 2 seems to work fine at the menu to start and load a new game...problem being it asks you to insert disc 2 and then you are screwed. I am going to try and convert a disc 2 save of MGS and see if I can load disc 2 on my Nexus one.
I have the same problem with Parasite Eve 2 freezes as soon as it boots.
this thread is the best thing that i have ever found. i was searching how to do this all over the internet, and it was right here all along. thanks fellas!
edit: does anyone know how to change the block number of the saved games?

Change save location for game emulators?

I'm trying to figure out a way to save my roms into a dropbox folder so I can easily access them from my computer to play with a 360 controller on my tv. I guess the first question is: would saves states from different emulators work together.
I think tasker would be the best way, and I tried setting something up, but couldn't figure out a good way to really automate it. There isn't an option in the emulators to change the save game location.
By default all of the saves (using save states - I don't use in game saves) go in sdcard/roms/nes or snes or genesis with the name of the file as *game title*.ss1 .ss2 .ss3 (different slots).
I think the best way would be to set up the following in tasker. On nesoid launch/snesoid launch/genesis launch, copy .ssx files from dropbox/nes-genesis-snes to their respective folders on the sdcard. Then, on closing an emulator on the phone, copying from the sdcard to dropbox.
If somebody could help me with this, I would really appreciate it.

Gameboid and Saving

Morning!
I am a casual GBA player, and I have played some games on my laptop on VBA. I decided it was time I passed them to my Android device and tried them on Gameboid. To do such, I istalled the app, configured the BIOS, and copied both the .gba and the .sav file.
Gameboid loads the ROM and savefile just fine. However, when I try to save (manually; not via savestate), it doesn't work. The savefile is not overwriten, and if I reset gameboid I will be at the same point I was when I passed the files from my laptop to my phone.
I know I could work around this with savestates, but there are some things I'd really prefer the in-game save states to do.
Thanks for the help,
Blues003
Yes, I have the same problem. I have a 128kb save file for a game. Gameboid reads the file perfectly; however, when I attempt to save my game manually (in-game save), the game always fails to save. All the save files that I create using Gameboid are 32kb, unlike all my previously created files which are all 128kb. I have tried changing the GBA save type setting but to no avail. Any help would be really appreciated! Thanks!
I have some ideas, look that: I have a emulator on my droid. Wich use .sav 128kb my emulator on my pc use .sav 64kb. The question here my dearly developers is... We need emulators wich use the same .sav, maybe must be a emulator that use .sav 128kb if somebody find any type of solution pleas help me or bether, help us sorry about my english i learnd listening music in my home (@rael2000ix) from Brasil ,,, i just waiting for one developer that can make it thanks i m d go.

Problems with gameboid?

Hey everyone. I was playing some games on VBA (gameboy advance emulator) on my PC. About halfway through the game I saved the game (.sav file) and transferred it to my Xperia Play so I could continue on gameboid.
The import worked great and I was able to play while traveling. Problem is now I want to switch back to the PC and gameboid wont save my game (battery save) - it will only save using a save state.
I cant find any way to load the save state in any emulators on the PC. I read on a couple places that you couldnt battery save using the lite version of gameboid. So I checked to see if I downloaded the wrong one. Looks like I didnt - Gameboid 2.4.7. I obtained it via a QR code from the developer's site since it isnt on the marketplace anymore.
Any ideas here?
Fix
I had a similar issue using an emulator as well. It happens when you try to use a save from a different device. I found out that you need to fix the permissions if you do this. Basically it works like this:
- [Device One] You install the emulator, load a rom, and save your data.
- Copy the .sav to [Device Two] load a rom, then save OVER that .sav
- Copy the .sav BACK to [Device One] load rom, load save (works fine) but overwriting doesn't work.
when this happens you need to set the permissions of the .sav, and of the folders that contain it and it will work fine again.
Hope this helps.

convert it to slot1.mcd i believe
make a back up of you saved to check the file name
where does fpse store the mcd files? (memory card files)
I cant seem to find them anywhere, any help would be much appreciated because then I could transfer my saves to psxperia.

there stored in /data/data/. just do a backup in the main menu, you will find copies of both memory cards in the backup folder on your SD Card.

I didnt have a data folder inside the data folder, however when I did the backup I was able to find the memory cards by going to /fpsebackup/memcards/
Thanks AndroHero!
anyone try it out yet?
seriously i thought it was gonna be a simple task of downloading a ff7 game save and converting it to 0.raw but for some strange reason i would either get a "mem crd must be formatted or a file is corrupt " error
so after about 2 hrs and a six pack of budlight later finally got it more of a trial and error what took the longest
when i get home later i will try and make a game save for fpse
can anyone confirm the fpse extension name? so i can upload
I've done this many times with Final Fantasy VIII.....I still have the save file if anyone is interested.

post it up buddy
and is it already converted for psxperia or fpse?
It is for fpse. I can do cheats for any psx games. After I clock FF8, I'm going to play FF7 and will add cheats onto the save file.
PLEASE NOTE: This will only work with the US version of the game....
hook me up with a save game for gran turismo 2 for either psxperia or fpse
Wow seems like you guys are onto what I've been working on. But I'm trying to do it reverse, fpse to psxperia. I keep reading about how fpse can do raw format, but not really sure how to convert slot1.mcd to 0.raw format. If you guys know how to do that please let me know. Also i'm testing to see if this allows me to import saved games to sequels, like Suikoden save data to Suikoden 2. Another game i'd like to try this with is .hack lol. There's a decent amount of old ps games that carry over data.
So yeah please let me know how you guys did this.
Lol guess I found out my own answer. I can confirm that slot1 = 0.raw, and slot2 = 1.raw. The only tricky part to this is before renaming the file to 0.raw or 1.raw, make sure to check that the save game you want is actually on the slot1.mcd. I had to redo it several times due to the file not being on there. Psxmemtool probably works the best out of all the different ones I tried.
So I was able to run Suikoden 2, and import save data from suikoden 1. Its kinda annoying, but each games 1.raw or 0.raw file, is unique. Meaning, if you want to import a certain save, it has to be on the 1.raw or 0.raw of the specific game. Reason I find this annoying, is if you have a game and its sequal. You completed the first, want to import to the 2nd. In order to do that, you have to go through the steps I listed above. Also there may be a limit to how many slots the game actually sees on the memory card inside of the game. Hopefully we'll see other improvements to the native emulator someday...
