Remove Bootloader from Stock Rom's - General Questions and Answers

Hey Guys,
I want to flash a original stock ROM to flash on my galaxy 3, i am seeing the the stock ROM's on SamMobile but i am super unsure to flash them
What should I do to remove the bootloader for a safe flashing? What files should I delete and how to?

Yea i also want to know how to do that if somebody can please explain this !

You have the Samsung Galaxy S3 ?
You don't want to "remove" any kind of bootloader. Removing the bootloader would cause your phone to not boot up. Sometimes people need to unlock a bootloader, but you shouldn't have to with your phone.
If someone told you to delete the bootloader, they are probably trolling you and want you to break your phone.
Did you get the phone from someone who had already rooted / installed a custom ROM ? If so, I highly recommend wiping EVERYTHING, including recovery so you can get a fresh start and nothing will be left over.
You don't need to do anything to the bootloader for the Samsung Galaxy S3.
You should factory reset and use the computer program Odin to flash stock ROM + recovery. You can find out how to do that in detail in the forum for the Galaxy S3.

Remove boot loader trololol lol sure if you want to hard brick your phone and you have a Samsung they open no unlocking

He means removing the new bootloader included in recent OTA's from the OTA itself. The new bootloader will up your flash counter just for having a custom ROM on your phone, rather than flashing one.

Simple root for the i9023 with 4.0.4?

Has anyone tried to root their i9023 with 4.0.4 using doomlord's easy rooting toolkit? http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1321582
I tried it when I had 2.3.6 and it worked perfectly but want to update to 4.0.4 now.
If doomlord's doesn't work, is there any similar one click rooting? Also, when I rooted, it didn't erase my data and apps. Will that be the same? Thanks
I guess not. Been searching and couldn't find a non-destructive one and one as a simple click without needing cwm.
There's none that I am aware of. However, it's not really that complicated to flash the right SU zip, and if you don't want to flash cwm you can simply fastboot boot cwm.img and it will leave stock recovery intact and ready after you flashed everything.

Couple things if you're already rooted on gingerbread do a nandroid back up. Put that and anything else you want to keep on your computer. Unlock the bootloader and restore your backup and update.
Stop messing around and unlock the bootloader.

How can he do a backup if the bootloader is locked = no cwm recovery? He's out of luck. Best thing he can do is backup the SD card and that's it. The rest is lost
Edit: failed to read sorry. Didn't notice the gingerbread part. Anyway if he's on stock and one clicked rooted he still doesn't have cwm so he can't make a nandroid, he can use titanium backup and save apps and data.

If he is stock rooted he can flash cwm in the os. Either through rom manager or terminal

I thought that locked bootloader prevented the flash of any kind of unsigned .img even if you have root.
Guess i was wrong ;D
That's what you get when your first step with an android phone is unlock the bootloader
Not a one size fits all. Some phones all you need is root to flash a custom recovery and roms/kernels.
Others it can be a mess. Like the HTC g2 or even now the one x on att. Got the entire s on/ s off encryption nonsense and so on.

He can flash a new recovery through the OS if he has root access only. Unlocked bootloader only provides fastboot support.
If you are fully stock (bootloader, recovery, no su), the only current way to root 4.0.4 is to have an unlocked bootloader.

Yeah that's what make my confusion. My old HTC Magic needed unlocked bootloader to flash a recovery.

Yeah about that i was pretty sure you needed unlocked bootloader, but about CWM flash i was convinced that you needed also unlocked bootloader, but as stated above, it's just for some devices.
Thank to all that responded. All this talk just flew over my head ... guess that's what I get for using simple one clicks
Let me try to straighten some stuff out.
How would I use titanium backup?
Do I titanium backup while it's still on gingerbread or after I OTA the ics 4.0.4?
Edit: duh! I can't use Ti backup after OTA ics because phone not rooted yet.
After backing up with Ti, I thought any attempt to root will erase all. Does the Ti backup not get erased?
Ti backup only backs up my app and the data to those apps, not how I customize my homescreen's widgets and notification bar, right?
So, I would have to do all that stuff over?
If I don't want to unlock bootloader or install cwm, any way to root and leave stock recovery intact?
Lazer Bear posted "if you don't want to flash cwm you can simply fastboot boot cwm.img and it will leave stock recovery intact and ready after you flashed everything."
Is that possible and how do I do it? Does that erase everything too?
Thanks to all!

[Q] Need help removing SuperSU, and staying unrooted.

Hi everyone,
Now I know I'm not alone on this because I've seen quite a few other questions about this and I haven't really seen any straight forward answers about this same problem.
Anyways I own the N8013 and like many I couldn't wait for the US version of 4.1 so I flashed the german n8010 version. No problems there, Ive been using it fine. However I always intended to go back to stock, and for the most part I have. I got back on the n8013 ics, reset the flash counter and all that so I am no longer custom and it says I haven't flashed anything. Downloaded the 4.1 OTA update, checked to make sure I wasn't rooted, I'm not, so almost everything is perfect. The only problem I have left is that SuperSU is on the device and I cant uninstall it.
Now I heard something about rooting to uninstall it but Im confused because if I root then remove it how do I unroot? Also Im worried that this will somehow affect my flash counter and official status. Anyways I'd really appreciate some help on this, I know there are others like me who could benefit from maybe a simple step by step process of getting SuperSU off and getting to unmodified, stock, unroot status. I have a physical defect with my device and even though I've heard samsung is lenient id like to not take any chances.
Again I'd really appreciate any help people have to offer, thanks for reading.
Root, run triangle away to reset counter. Go to supersu and find in settings the unroot and remove supersu setting. It will remove super su and unroot. You may need to reflash the stock recovery or stock rom again via ODIN. Stock recovery is only a few seconds, stock rom about 4 - 5 mins.... Your choice....
Should be completely stock now...

Well I already rooted and reset the counter, the problem is I can't find any setting in SuperSu to remove itself. I found the unroot which I ran but I dont know where to remove SuperSU, maybe I'm missing it? Or do I need to re root and follow these steps again? Or do I just flash stock again? Also if I flash stock through ODIN will that affect my counter? Sorry If I'm just missing it, I really appreciate your help.
Via recovery format system cache data and sd card and nothing is on the phone .
Boot to download mode and flash stock rom via Odin .

No, flashing a stock rom through ODIN won't raise flash counter..

[Q] Do I Need CWM? SGA

Hey guys I'm an Android noob and a little confused. I've successfully unlocked, rooted, and flashed my Samsung Galaxy Ace by following step E here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=12874680#post12874680. At this point, it seems I'm ready to flash custom ROMs?? My question is, do I need to get Clockworkmod on my Ace if I want to flash ROMs or am I good to go as is and put files on my sd card, then boot into recovery mode, and flash from there?
If I do need CWM, how do I get it? I'm aware that I shouldn't use ROM Manager to get it as it will brick my Samsung Galaxy Ace.
Thanks, and sorry if this question has been asked by others already, appreciate it.
If you completed step E of that guide, you should already have CWM on your device. It replaces your old recovery, and without it, you wouldn't be able to flash a new ROM anyway. CWM also gives you the ability to back up device, in case you screw up you can quickly restore to a previous good image.

Having a Problem installing Safestrap recovery

Im having a problem getting to the recovery screen of safestrap.
I just installed safestrap from this link here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2605648
and it said it was successful. When I clicked Boot into Recovery, the phone restarts and just hangs at the Samsung Galaxy SIII Screen.
pressing any of the keys, or trying to power it off does not work. I have to pull the battery.
Upon pulling the battery, I do get the safestrap overlay where it says safestrap is disabled. I click the menu button that says recovery and it just hangs on a black screen. And I need to pull the battery again. When i get back to the safestrap screen again, i can get my phone to boot as normal by clicking continue as oppopsed to recovery, but I still can not get safestrap to boot into the recovery screen to install a rom (I want to install a 4.3 Rom).
Does anyone have any advice? Im currently running on a rooted 4.1.2.
PS: Is there a rooted stock 4.3 rom? I dont have alot of experience with custom roms. I just want the latest stock rom, but have root access. If there is one, can someone please point me in the direction of it?
Safestrap is intended for people that took the 4.3 ota, so I'm not sure if it will work on 4.1.2. You should make sure your bootloader is unlocked and install a custom recovery. There are several threads that explain the process.

Safestrap should work fine for any other versions of jellybean, (im assuming) he intends to install a custom rom while at the same time having a live back up of the stock one. Also safestrap is meant for people with locked bootloaders and even though you can unlock the bootloader (on 4.1.2) you really don't need to in order to install safestrap.

So wait... Do I even need safestrap then? or is there a way to install 4.3 without having my bootloader become locked. I thought that was the whole point of installing safestrap was to create a partion of the update before you actually update to it.

Safestrap is only for people who already updated to 4.3 rom with LOCKED bootloader. In your case, NO you don't need safestrap. You could install 4.3 for unlocked bootloader (in your case) here are a few:

Thank You. I guess I missed something when I was reading on how to avoid getting your bootloader locked in the process.

Reflashing stock recovery and locking bootloader after installing a custom rom

Potentially stupid question, but...
What would happen if I install custom rom the usual way and after that reflash stock recovery and relock bootloader?
Can things work that way at all (I'd like to try it for security or whatever reasons)?
Is there a rule, or some roms would work and others won't?
If it can work in any combination, what are the bad sides of that setup (installing anything again would be a pain, I know that) ?
I'd like an explanation please, thanx.
If i remember correctly, google updated bootloader to fully wipe your phone (including internal memory) on both unlocking and locking bootloader. So i dont think you can lock it with custom rom flashed. But stock recovery should be flashable without problems, the only thing is that you wont be able to flash anything, not even update rom or flash google updates if you are on customised rom.

I remember it wiping after unlocking, but not after locking again.
Its because of this i think its wiping. Read this, check for yourself.

Are you rooted? There is nothing wrong with running it this way. If you are rooted you could use boot unlocker app to relock bootloader, and then if you wanted to flash something just use the app to unlock, boot into fastboot, fastboot boot twrp, flash the zip you need, reboot, use the app to relock, and everything would be ok.
No root. Im asking for this method for security reasons.
You could use an apk like kingroot to root it and follow the steps then unroot it after you are done. I know you want security, there is nothing wrong with stock recovery/locked bootloader and running a custom rom. I was thinking more if you wanted to update in the future.
Thanks, makes sense...
