AnEq equalizer causes skips on Tweaked PBJ-FP1 - Verizon Droid Charge

I tried to find something like this. I didn't have much luck so I decided to post this.
I just got AnEq Graphic Equalizer for $.99 on Play Store. Every time I turn it on the music starts skipping no matter how I set it. It doesn't do this in any other situation. The equalizer in PowerAmp works great. None of the internet radio apps that I've tried have an EQ so I really need an add-on.
Is there maybe a change somewhere that would let me use this app? I like the way it enhances the tone but the skips are unacceptable.
I'm on Tweaked with PB&J-FP1 on Ext4. I have Voodoo sound. Switching it off makes no change. Like I said my sound is good unless I try to use AnEq.

Hmm... While it would require a bit of work on your end, I would try it out on full stock and verify it works as it should, and if it does then verify again after flashing either the kernel or the rom (but not both). Unless other more knowledgeable folks have a better idea of what could be at play here, it's hard to say what the problem could be (or where one should look to figure it out). Let me know if you find anything out.

Thanks Dwitherell. I'll let this ride for a little while in case somebody can answer it. If I have no luck I'll try that. Maybe another (free) EQ app would do it. I'll keep working on it. Thanks again. I love your rom.

I'm being a little wimpy about reverting back to full stock. I haven't ruled it out though. So far I've tried a different EQ called Equalizer ($2) and uninstalling Voodoo Sound and PowerAmp. Also I've disabled my O/c'ing and went back to On Demand. Nothing changed.
I guess I'll probably try to go back to stock this weekend, depending on whether I have the time or not. I guess you're right. That's probably the best place to start.
The thing is I really like the setup I have now. If I can't keep it and have an EQ then I'll do without the EQ. I really like Tweaked plus PB&J-FP1 on Ext4 and I like it running at 1200 Mhz with Smartass. It never feels quite as smooth on RFS.

You could try DSPManager. That's what I am using and it's not skipping at all. I have voodoo sound set up the way I like it and using DSPManager for the EQ. Only use the EQ in DSPManager, enabling other things can cause the music to skip. You can download Eclipse 2.0 and pull the file out of /system/app folder in that zip. Then using root explorer put it in /system/app and set permissions to rw-r--r-- then reboot your phone.

DSPManager causes the skips too. The only equalizer that works right for me is the one in Power Amp. But of course that works only in the P/A app. It can be made to sound awesome on any recording I have in my phone.
I got PB&J-FP1 0502 yesterday and that makes no difference too. I'm still considering trying out stock FP1 this weekend if I can find the time.
I just thought to try something else. I turned off wifi and it seems to be OK coming in through 4g. Hmmmm. Maybe I'm on to something here.
Yep, it's definite. I've been listening for over 5 minutes with it sounding perfect with Voodoo and DSP enabled. Wifi is obviously the culprit.

OK maybe I spoke too soon. It skips on 3g and 4g too. The only thing I'm relatively sure of is that it seems to get quite a bit better if I'm across the room from my computer desk. The wifi router sits right next to the desk and it seems to be worse when I'm close to it. I think it must be picking up clicks and skips from the radio signals.
I guess the next thing to try is the stock rom. I need some time for that. I don't get a lot of time to just play with my toys but I'll get around to it.

Could be a FP1 problem. I started getting clicks and pops in calls and skips in music since FP1. Happened on eclipse and tweaked. I also had random occurrences of the speaker being "on" after boot. I'd hear static and pops coming from my phone right after boot. Had to kill all services to stop it.
Basically all around weirdness related to audio with FP1. Wonder if there's a system file we can take from an old ROM that might fix things. Not sure where the audio "driver" resides.

it skips because its not getting enough power try setting the governor to performance it will clear that up.
** note running in performance will drain your battery fast plug it in **

I had the same problem. I reinstalled Tweeked 2.1 through Odin n no problems since.

Problem resolved for me too. Backed up, Odin'd EP4 with PIT, took FP1 OTA update, Odin'd Tweaked 2.1 and restored with Titanium.
I used the CWM image when I installed Tweaked 2.0 before. Thinking Odin may have been the difference this time...

I set up Voodoo sound to give me a somewhat acceptable sound and blew off trying to get an aftermarket equalizer to work. Thanks for the suggestions.

I have a strange problem with my Hero that is hard to describe. Even before I rooted my phone I had this problem which leads me to believe it could possibly be a hardware malfunction. Anyways..
The problem is that over time after a complete wipe and flash of a custom rom (I've tried several) that my phones slowly deteriorates. It will be running fast and great for a week or two and then its starts to slow down to the point where it is completely unusable and I am forced to wipe and flash again. While its acting this way I have tried killings tasks, emptying cache, hard resets... every simple solution I can think of....
The other odd thing is that I use my phone very lightly. I only install 4-6 apps and those are the basics like pandora and such...
And I'd like to add that maybe I'm wrong about my phone acted this way when I had 1.6 official on it. It's been awhile.... so maybe I corrupted something when I rooted my phone for the first time?
Really I wish you could see the way my phone acts... its ridiculous . I would take a youtube video of it if I wasnt too lazy too. Crazy stuff like it taking a whole 30 seconds to a minute for a unlock pattern to finally go through, Or how when I try and type a phone number its like 3 or 4 presses "behind" as I type ( and im not typing quickly) or when I try to scroll through my contact list it just gets stuck and then finally it "catches up" and stutters all the way down to the bottom because of how many swipes I attempted.....
...help
have you tried.....?
Have you tried to run an RUU of eith 1.6 or 2.1? if you runn an RUU it will clear out any lerking "software" issues and then just re-root and try that out then try a custom rom after that.
Try Autokiller from the market. Once you install it, run it. Set the autokiller settings to something like Optimum or Strict (if that doesn't work for you, try Aggressive).
This will adjust the low memory killer settings to a more aggressive number. This, hopefully, will help.

I agree. I use auto killer on aggressive with CM6 and it runs great forever
My phone does the exact same thing!
I first really noticed it when I flashed the official sprint 2.1 update. I think it has something to do with the buildup of cache on the phone.
I have been running CM6 for a little over a month and have recently noticed it getting slightly hung up at times, but nothing compared to how it was with the official 2.1 update. Also, remember that CM6 does not have Sense, which can really slow down the phone.
I also I agree with you that it seemed like my phone did not do this on 1.6, but it has been quite sometime since I flashed 2.1.
Does anyone know what really causes this exponential slow down; to the point where the phone is barely useable?
hm... I will try autokiller.....thanks for the advice
as for CM6..... I've tried not using sense UI but to me its my favorite part of my phone... for example the facebook/twitter/flickr integration with my contact list is invaluable.... is there a replacement for this?
is anyone else able to add anything else?

Try Zen-Rom. It has all that you are looking for and is very fast and stable.
Sent from my Zen-Rom Hero!
Auto killer is the way to go. I found Aggressive setting too much for my tastes; if I was on a webpage, then went to the home screen for something else and opened back up the browser, it would have to reload it because it was killed. I set it on optimum, and get no slow down, and can still truly multi task.

Or NFX-Hero. I'm not a Sense guy, but I've experimented with that ROM, and it was the fastest Sense 2.1 IMO.
Just curious but does pandora have a cache file on your sdcard? I had an app that was reading and writting to a cache on my sdcard and it would slow my phone down a lot. When your phone slows try ditching some of your apps and see if maybe one could be responsible for it, if it is there are tons of options different apps that do the same thing.

Do you have an SD partition? I think you have to have one for this ROM, didn't think to test without an SD partition. A2SD is baked in. It would be great if someone could confirm this, cuz I don't wanna delete my partition lol.

Well in SS the a2sd version will still boot with no partition but it will reboot upon installing a app.
His md5 could be bad or maybe not a full wipe. Its hard to tell based on info provided

If you guys have problems with a ROM: BE AS SPECIFIC AS POSSIBLE AND IT IS MORE LIKELY TO GET SOLVED. It's not just my ROMs we are talking about, we can't help you if you are vague. And logcats are the most helpful thing if you have a problem that is not in the OP. We are here to help but you have to help us to help you.

Well put, I used to hate someone saying this is broke and leaving it at that. Because 75% of the time its user specific or created so its hard for us to track down what happened. The standard for reporting bugs should be
The security type of phone eg s-on/s-off
Wipe process( most important part of flashing)
If the md5 was checked and matched. If anything else was restored in recovery or flashed with the ROM. But that's my opinion

Yes definitely. The more relevant information provided, the easier to diagnose the issue. Then formulate a solution.

Thanks so much for this, much different than the stock GingerBread I just replaced.
I've only been using Android about 6 months and was running a rooted stock kernel and dodgekernel, but I have to say this build feels much quicker and looks much slicker and has a very nice kernel built in.
I don't know if I was just behind the times or what but is that really just a skin/look change on the Play Store? It's extremely different and very nice looking to what I was using before (and about 10x faster).
I did run in to a couple issues, that are probably just user issues.
I've reinstalled all the apps I was used to but noticed that starting up a navigation, or music file or inputting an address doesn't bring up the prompt I'm used to of "Which application should we open this with". In fact I cannot find where any default tasks can be assigned anywhere. Whenever I go to manage applications, "Launch by default" always says "No defaults set." for every single application.
Another oddity that I think is related to this, when I hit the 'action'/'smart' button my bluetooth it just goes 'dut-dut' and does nothing.
I'm pretty sure Voice Commands is installed, but it won't come up and now I've installed My MotoSpeak and that will not respond either, and I think this is because I cannot choose that button as a task and nothing is set up by default.
Thanks for the help and the nice build.
EDIT: I just noticed that the CM10 roms says that "BT call audio." could be a problem. I know that is a whole different animal, but could that be an issue here as well? Its odd, my BT will play media music fine, but will not play phone/call audio correctly, just hear a buzzing.

There are ICS/JB themes you can download, but some of the theming is within the ROM. As for BT calling, I am only able to test BT by sending files, I no longer own a headset (My Planatronics took a ride in the washer).... Speed is what I shoot for on all my ROMs
Also... Did you restore data when you restored your apps? If you did, reflash and restore apps without data, it might fix your problem.

Absolutely agree :good: . A Fresh CLean install when first flashing a Rom will avoid a lot of issues. It may take more effort, and time. But it usually gives the best results.

I actually didn't know there was an option for that, how would you go about doing that for future reference?
Whenever I run a new rom I wipe data 3 times, cache and davlik and start fresh.
I don't use that many apps anyway, just some key ones every day for the drive, so only takes about a couple hours to get set back up and much of that time is just experiencing the new rom and finding what's different.
Yeah speed is incredible, I mean my old kernel was ok when run at 1.5Ghz, but that stock htc launcher or whatever 2.3.5 had would often 'spin' for 5-10 seconds when just trying to switch apps or multitask. There were other instances too, just felt like I/O speed was much different.
I'm sure it helped to not have any of the Sprint/HTC cruft to deal with, but especially navigating apps in the launcher, multitasking and browsing Play Store are beyond incredible, basically instant. My wife finally played with the new rom a bit and said she thought it was just 'too fast' compared to her 4s, she just "didn't like it". I have no idea what that means, but I for one love the speed. I don't need it to be slow to convince me it's working .
This is also my first time using link2sd, I didn't know about it with my old rom and was perpetually with ~40mb left (and a full SD). My trial of the rom and adding sd-ext was because I finally upped to a 32gb and decided to look around while I was upgrading.
As for exact issues: Pressing the 'smart' button on my Bluetooth headset does nothing, getting me 2 quick beeps.
Voice/phone audio through my BT will not work. It's odd because all media, music, text to speech, everything else works fine, and the microphone works fine for voice recognition, etc.
But when on the phone, it sounds a bit like when a phone is half off the hook, a steady, kinda staticy tone and every now and then a juggling/clunk sound (reminds me when someone on the other end played with hanging or half hanging up the receiver). I can switch to headset or speaker while in the call and both are fine, and bluetooth goes silent while in the other modes. It's crazy though because I will hear my gps speak to me overtop of the staticy 'lack of phone' while on BT.
The first issue I fixed: After much internet searching I found other users on ICS experiencing the same issue with the button and they suggested downloading Voice Control Test. It sounds odd, because I've downloaded all sorts of stuff and they work but I have to touch the screen to start them. But just as was reported on the website I found it on:
1) Install Voice Control (Test)
2) Start it up
3) Press the button on your BT
4) MAGIC, suddenly your phone brings back the old Gingerbread option asking which App you'd like to use to complete this action and you can choose to pick a default too, my choices were Voice Control Test or My Motospeak, for some reason stuff like iris and jeannie were missing, but regardless, I hit default, My MotoSpeak and now my 'Smart' button works fine.
5) Un-install Voice Control, button keeps working fine.
Also I haven't tested entering a GPS location yet, but I was playing with some other apps and again was prompted for that other action. This might have reenabled the old prompting for various commands somehow.
Also, I noticed that there was no option for 'Voice Command', which most forums seem to suggest is the old 'built in' app that ran when you pressed the BT button. I'm not sure, but that basic issue might just be that no default app was installed to begin with, but it is annoying that installing something like My Motospeak doesn't help and there's no way to manually set this to the BT button 'action'. Maybe having something lightweight like Voice Command in the rom by default would be a nice feature, the same way you have that light term emulator there by default.
Any thoughts at all about phone audio over BT? It seems so odd since media works and seems more difficult, like maybe an issue with how the dialer is handing off or passing the audio stream to the BT. Maybe there are other 'dialers' in play store, I'm not that familiar, but this seems like it'd be in a common piece in the rom that handles phone audio.
For now I'm going to try to get a voip/sip set up and see if that works, might be nicer anyway because then I can use data while on the 'phone' finally on Sprint.
Thanks again for the work on the rom.

Thanks for the input tho, it's something I don't really think about because I no longer have a BT headset. I'll have to look into it... Too fast? Lol there's no such thing.

[Q] Synergy r373 on vz i535

Haven't seen this topic covered in the Synergy forum, so I was hoping to hear if anyone knows of this issue and knows how to fix.
I have flashed the r373 ROM from Synergy a few times. I have a Verizon i535 phone. The ROM works great overall.
Did a Superwipe and using Ziggy Kernle and stock, i.e. non-selected, keyboard during install.
I find that during typing on the keyboard, in either Mail or Message, that once in a while the phone freezes for about 20-30 seconds. I cannon do anything in the mean time but wait. It seems to hold the cue of clicks, so that once it finally gets going, after 20-30 seconds, it flushes out the cue of clicks.
I have loaded this ROM (r373) twice and have the same issue. I tried one of the other keyboard options during the install, but same result.
Any ideas or help?
Otherwise, I love this ROM. Phenomenal battery life.
Thanks.

Thanks.

It's a known issue. Probably kernel related. No fix yet. Some have suggested changing the govenor from ondemand to somthing else like smartassv2. That seems to work but its more of a workaround.

Thanks for the reply. I'm glad to hear that it is a known issue and not just some problem in the way I am flashing.
I'm not sure I follow you on how to attempt the work around with what you describe about changing the govenor. Where do I change these settings?
Where, or how, do I learn more about this?
Thanks again.
Also fyi, the lag isn't just in email and message. You could be doing anything and it'll just freeze for a bit. I get like 2 instances a day. I would switch the kernel if Ziggy's kernel wasn't so awesome otherwise.
Basically to get rid of the freezes, you could flash a new kernel - either stock or another 3rd party kernel like LeanKernel
OR (not sure if this second method works 100%)
you can change your kernel governor
Description of various kernel governors
Synergy's default gov. for the ziggy kernel is ondemand. To change it you can use an app like SetCPU or ROM Toolbox or you can use the synergy's toolbox feature. If you want to use the synergy toolbox, go into you recovery, flash the rom to start aroma installer but do not hit install rom. Instead, select the toolbox, change the governor, apply changes, then hit menu and exit. Then you can reboot your phone. You wont have to actually re-flash anything.

Updated to r443 reciently, with the Copy/Paste fix also, and this issue seems to be not occurring anymore. Just thought you might want to know.

[Q] Popping after any sound (P5100, CM10.1)

Hello,
my tablet is producing a very loud "pop" noise when speaker turns off (ie. after any sound). Galaxy Nexus seemed to have the same (hardware) issue, but I believe that mine is caused by software, as it started after I flashed CyanogenMod 10.1 (latest nightly). I'm running following setup right now:
DhollmenCM (but I flashed cyanogenmod over it, not sure if it's still here)
CyanogenMod 10.1 latest nightly
GApps for CM 10.1
Before installing CM everything worked well (but the original ROM is **** and I need profiles). How am I supposed to fix this?
I've had that before as well. Do you by chance have any audio enhancing software installed besides DSP Manager? Programs like Volume+ are notorious for this.
DSP Manager has everything disabled, nothing else is installed.
First I would try to remove DSP just to see if that's the problem.
Here is a simple app that I use to remove apps that the ROM's have in them that I don't want. I usually do it after I flash because I don't feel like opening the ROM on the computer and removing them ahead of time.

If removing DSP doesn't solve your issue and you didn't have this problem previously, I would reflash wiping "everything" before flash, including data. Since at that point there would be no way to be certain what is causing it. I don't believe the kernel could be the problem as I am running CM10.1 and the Dhollmen kernel as well and don't have any issues.
I have reflashed everything many times - with no effect. After removal of DSP there's no difference too.

But did you wipe the system before flashing?
This is critical to make sure you have a clean installation, without it there are pieces that get left behind and cause all sorts of issues. If you have wiped, then it sounds like you have developed a hardware issue. Did it get dropped any time recently?
pzduniak,
I don't know if you're still having this problem, but I ran into this problem too. It was driving me nuts. It started happening when I was playing Pixel Dungeons.. then crept to my alarm and popped every time sounds played. I tried the DSPManager thing to no avail, but I tried this and so far have not heard any popping. I'm still testing, but I went into system>build.prop (I'm on a Sprint Galaxy S3, so just find build.prop on your device). In build.prop (make sure you're rooted so you can make changes), change the line that says lpa.decode=true to false. reboot and try that out. I researched very little about lpa.decode, but I remember having a problem in stock with battery drain and lpa.decode.. I dont know if it's true at all but give that a shot and let me know if the pops go away!
Good luck!

I had been having this popping problem for a while now, and Google brought me here. I went ahead and changed the lpa.decode to false like you suggested and it worked like a charm! Thanks mtran2988!

Great news! Viper4Android

Yeah, yeah I know! I'm either really brave or really dumb. If I was you I probably still wouldn't do this until we have a way to flash a stock ROM, but it does work.
*ROOTED T-MOBILE V20*
I have successfully flashed Viper4Arise - Deuteronomy (Viper4Android). The driver installed fine and I am currently listening to music with increased volume level, bass, viper clarity, etc. I have rebooted multiple times to make sure it didn't loop or anything.
What I did:
1) Went to this thread: http://forum.xda-developers.com/android/software/r-s-e-sound-systems-auditory-research-t3379709
2) Clicked AndroidFileHost
3) Navigated to the latest Deuteronomy release, which happens to have been today.
4) I used Flashfire to flash the zip.
5) After the reboot I opened Viper4Arise and had to change FX Compatible Mode to "Compatible" to make it work.
6) Profit. :highfive::highfive::highfive:
Big thanks to the creator of Viper and this new version.
Note: There is currently a bug for Viper on Android N. Sometimes if music playback ends or you unplug headphones you will have to reboot to get Viper to process again.
Sweet ,love viper but it'll have to wait till I can get root on Verizon v20

It works for me too. A little broken tho. I have faith tho they will work out the bug in N

What is yours doing? Is it that bug where you have to reboot?
Does it affect the DAC performance? The fact that there was no system-level EQ and the only EQ I could find was the LG music player which is decent, it'd be nice to have a system wide EQ, especially by output.
Finally got this working because I'm apparently a moron and forgot to allow storage permissions to arise.
Now viper coupled with that ridiculously powerful DAC and my hd 380s bump and shake my head. Nice!!!
