Hello!
I have a galaxy S2 (original ICS) and I want to be able to hide (exclude from scan) some music files from showing up in the music player. I looked for music apps that could do this but cant find any. For the pictures I use quickpic where you can choose which folders not to show. It seems really weird to me that there are no apps or an easy way to do this.
I know there is a .nomedia trick or whatever. But its seriously that difficult to have this built in in an app? There is no other way?
I googled and tried to find info but there doesnt seem to be a good music app that lets u do it. Im willing to pay for an app too so it doesnt have to be free.
Hope someone can help.

Power Amp Does this. Over all best music player on the market. Paid? Yes but well worth it.
Ok I downloaded it but I didn't find that function. Where in the settings is it. I must have missed something.

Hi, I just got a Sensation a couple of days ago and there have been a few problems I hope you guys could help me with.
Firstly, my Android Market only shows a few of the apps that there should be. Loads of apps such as the launchers or Angry Birds for example aren't showing up. When I open the Market from my desktop it says that these apps cannot be installed in my country (UAE) when i have friends here with other Android phones with the very same apps.
Secondly, whenever I play a video on the phone it plays fine for about a minute and then the audio switches off and it only comes back if I skip scenes. I don't if this is a fault with my phone or maybe a wrong format I'm using, can you guys recommend a converter?
Thanks for any help, it's much appreciated.

I do not know the answer to your first question, but I would assume that your friends either have a different ROM flashed to their phone that allows them to bypass country restrictions, or they have downloaded the APK's from somewhere else, then 'adb push'ed them to their device... Someone more knowledgeable than me can answer that one...
The second question regarding video converters... I have used an application called Handbrake in the past to re-encode my video files, and it has worked wonders. I highly recommend it. Link: http://handbrake.fr/
Hope this helps.

You can try to find the apk for the apps you want and install them outside of Market by copying the apk to your SD card then installing from there (be sure to check the allow non-market applications box under the applications settings) this should (I think) bypass any country restrictions. If you look around I'm sure you can find the apks you want. If not you could probably make a request for certain apps and someone can upload the apk for you.
Thanks, I'll let you know how it goes.
Where do I paste the App file in the SD card?
Anywhere . You can, for example create new folder - "Apps" on yours sd and paste applications there.

Ahh, sorry should've been more specific. After copying the file over, where do I go in the phone to install it?
Nevermind, got it.
You can use the web-market to install apps. No idea why it doesn't appear on the phone's market app, but it should appear on the web market.
market.android.com
For the second problem: what video format are you using? Try *.mp4 or *.avi and see if they work Also, what resolution is the video?

You can try another video player such as MoboPlayer to see if you have converted your video ok.

I also use HandBrake converter.
There is an app called android market enabler "lets you access paid apps from countries where paid apps are not yet available". But it requires you to root your phone which is not currently possible on our phone. This could be what your friends are using.
http://www.xda-developers.com/android/market-enabler-v3-0-8-for-root-users/
I just copied some random avi files I had on my desktop, which gave me the problem above. Haven't tried using converter yet but I'll give it a shot now.
regarding your second problem

Try the dice player. It's plays my .MKV 720p files perfect.
Sent from my HTC Sensation 4G using XDA Premium App
Thanks guys, I tried the qqplayer and its playing perfectly. Though one more thing, how do you set custom (from the SD card) notifications for things like messages or emails? Atm I can only find it for ringtones. Oh and how do I switch off the annoying sound upon unlocking?
Sorry for the trouble, first time user and all. =/
lolwut16,
I am from UAE too and have the same problems with paid apps from Android Market.
I am just waiting a software solution to turn my Sensation S-off and install a "market enabler".
You are not alone........

make a folder on the root of your storage card & name it notifications & put the sounds in there.
for the weather sound you can disable that in the weather app or somewhere like that
New Google Videos app today lets you rent movies
but playback won't work on rooted devices, which are most of our devices
Is there anyway to disable the check (like that was done on the Netflix app)
Here it is:
http://hotfile.com/dl/121184492/69bc78b/com.google.android.videos-1.apk.html
EDIT:
WARNING: Trying to playback from the Videos app itself seems to be freezing Tab, atleast for me (im in canada) but it works thru browser as described below)
Original message:
Guys its working for me, even tho rooted (some people can't playback cause it will say you are rooted, if it works, then great)
how?
After renting from the video app (install manually above)
go to 'market.android.com/movies
and play it from there, itll play in the browser
if u get desperate, get Dolphin Browser, make ur UA String desktop, and go to youtube.com/movies and watch it there
(Flash needs to be installed ofcourse)
Cool thing is im doing this on the wifi samsung tab 10.1 (officially only xoom), installed the apk manually
should be possible...
could u put up the app here so i can have a look at it?
All the security checks are actually done in YouTube.apk. that apk is so obfuscacted, all I can say is good luck. However, it may just do a simple call to ro.secure

does something similar happen with the books app that may prevent it from reading other epub files not downloaded from market?

Stupid double post
Got it working
can a dev move this to general
JB Default Share Menu
Does anyone else seem to have a problem with this, or is it just me.
Not nearly as many apps are available to choose from, when you click share. (Stock)
And about 50+% of the time. The app you want to share to isn't an option to choose from
I've downloaded an app that helps a lil called Andmade Share, Which will show a different pop up menu with pretty much all apps available to share too.
The only problem is. Even after choosing default for Andmade Share and not Android System. The stock JB Share Menu will still show up, especially the time when you dont want it too. (Cause the app you want to share to isnt available)
Am I doing something wrong, or anyway to fix this
You Will Be Thanked Accordingly
And Appreciated
What is it that you want to share?
If you are talking about sharing the APK files, you can use File Manager HD from Play Store.
Just browse to the directory and long press the file name and click share. You will find a lot of options like dropbox, email bluetooth etc.

no like say ur on chrome which doesn't have flash.so if you want to watch a flash video. you have to share to a diff browser or video player that supports flash. well the share menu never shows me all my options. and normally the video player i want to share to isn't a choose.
not only chrome either.. this is just one example of where i came across this issue.
I've been looking for a while, and I was wondering if there are any good clean apps that have a pop up display of the song playing while not in the music player app? The ones I've found so far is Tune Pop and Music Popup. They do what I want, but not quite as clean. Does anyone know of any other apps similar to that? Or is there an app developer here who would want to create one? Thanks for any help in advance!
Oh yea, another thing to add. I would like something that isn't so intrusive. Something like a simple toast pop-up would be fine. Thanks!
I will make it if i find some time. If someone else want to do it there is some tip.
"To get a track specific information, you could invoke the MediaMetadataRetriever to provide the relevant information. One example to get all the file specific information can be found in MediaMetadataTest.java. "

Thank you, but that too is a little obtrusive. I don't like how it takes over a large space.
Hey Folks!
At a glance -- this is exactly what Ive been looking for in a music based app.
I can combine all of my music resources into one. Absolutely.
Yet i'm looking around and most are 'out of date'.
Even when I downloaded the app from the store it self it just isn't working ?
Please tell me i'm missing something. Is there an alternate ?
Thanks,
I used several free music apps.
