So this morning I go to use my phone and there's no network, no SMS or any phone calls working at all. Wifi and the phone itself work great. Rebooted numurous times, factory reset, even flashed the fxz, so at that point i took it to AT&T thinking it might be a bad sim but its fine. AT&T guy had no clue what was wrong. I'm looking for help here, and sorry if this had been posted elsewhere I can't find it, I just don't wanna up with a refurbished phone.

It sounds like a hardware issue to me. Flashing the fxz would've fixed any software issues.

Did you make sure data was enabled? I dunno...just a quick thought...
Sounds like refurbished phone time. Here's two questions. I'm under my one year which covers the refurbished warranty through AT&T, but I pay for best buy insurance. If I use AT&T will that void my best buy warrenty because the IMEI number won't match my best buy receipt? So its either AT&T and get a refurbished device or best buy and I could possibly wait a month to get my phone back??

In response to the OP, you might try to bring the adapter up or reset it. It's a long shot, but I've seen it bring up a seemly dead adapter.
Code:
adb shell
ifconfig
See if it shows your wireless adapter (tiwlan0), if it does, try to bring the adapter down then back up again.
Code:
ifconfig tiwlan0 down
ifconfig tiwlan0 up
Toggle airplane mode or reboot, and hopefully your adapter is back to normal.

I was always lost my signal every hour, then i put aluminium foil in the backdoor and set to 3g only, and it's better.
Now i rarely lost my signal, but still drop from 4 to 2 bar.

Got my new phone finally. Came with 2.3.6 pre-installed. I ended up losing my smsc #. Everything worked but text. Had to get the smsc from AT&T now everything's great other then the phone is acting somewhat weird at times. FC's and a little freezing here and there. It booted directly up. I didn't have to wait for it to install the OS. I'm thinking flashing the fxz might fix whatever is going on. I cleared the dalvik cache, data and cache but no luck. Any input would be appreciated. Thanx

Now the stupid thing won't send or recieve MMS. it just hangs and eventually tells me to re-try. Anybody know a fix for this?
MMS is most likely an APN issue, double check your apns or have your provider give you the proper settings. Could be an issue with the mms.apk, but I wouldn't consider it until I was certain my apns were correct. I know MMS won't send over wifi, so everything points to apn. I hope that helps.

OK so I need some help . . . . . after flashing a new ROM/kernel, I noticed that my network service was insanely poor. I thought it had to do with the new ROM but now after I have tried every which way of flashing and reflashing, I still have the issue. I used Speedtest to see what kind of DL speeds I was getting and I am usually in double digit kbps, 114kbps is my top. My wifes Acclaim regularly gets 600+ to the same server. Does anyone have any suggestions of what I may have screwed up or how I can go about fixing it? Everything works fine in WiFi btw.
Thanks in advance.
Fixed: Somehow I managed to get knocked off my 3G service. Called USCC tech support and they were able to turn it back on for me.

Try updating your prl. Dial *228 when at home and not roaming. Follow the prompts and wait for it to update. Should help and really can't hurt.

Well it's starting to look like I should start think about buying a new phone. I have tried everything within my ability and nothing. In a last ditch effort, where could I find a flashable radio that I could use just to make sure it is installed correctly?

Try going back to 2.1 and see how the data is. I somehow got a new prl when I flashed aosp and my girlfriends phone is on an earlier version. We both did the *228 and hers stays at 15108 mine stays at 15110. There is supposed to be a way to manually update our roll back prl. Idk wish I did

I did flash back to 2.1 and the data issues remain. The PRL on my phone and my wife's Acclaim are both 15110, but she gets 3G service and I don't. It also takes over a minute for my 1x service to load after turning off wifi. Also, If I force EVDO, I will get a "3G" banner at the top of the screen, but data does not work and the banner eventually goes away.
Additionally, is it normal to get a Verizon voice when you *228 while roaming? Because that is what I got when I was roaming yesterday. I have to believe that flashing Fascinate software has something to with it.
You could check the efs clear box in odin. I know it has something to do with service. I did that once in my vibrant by mistake. Are you dialing 911 in your home area? It needs to be in a uscc home area same with *228. The efs clear might break your phone worse so.......

Yes, which is why I said do it while NOT roaming. If you completed the *228 while roaming on Verizon you basically connected your phone to their network not USCC's.

I did the *228 at home while not roaming. When I got the Verizon thing while roaming I just hung up I never went through any kind of programming. This was well after things went awry anyways.
I believe this all started a few days ago when I tried flashing the ComaVolt kernel. I got a boot loop and had to do a battery pull. I then flashed dfgas's superclean port and I thought everything was working fine until I got out of wifi the next day and noticed my network service was aweful.

There are special libs that work with Kineto.apk. They are located in /system/lib, they are:
libganril.so
libkineto.so
librilswitch.so
They all must be on the phone to make wifi calling work. Will they work flawlessly on her phone? I honestly don't know, but that's how it is on the G2x. I never even heard of that phone
I'll try pushing
libganril.so
libkineto.so
librilswitch.so
into her system/lib folder and see what happens. Do i need to link these shared obj files or can i just place them?

There is no way the T-Mobile Wi-Fi calling app will work for you. Regardless of if you can get the app to run on the phone, it requires specific support on the carrier side to work.

Hey guys, long time lurker, first time poster haha!
Well recently I don't know what happened but for some reason my photon (stock rom + root) is not supporting hdmi anymore. Before I could plug it into my appradio or flat screen with a micro hdmi cable and the display would be mirrored. Now, when I plug it in, the screen will rotate horizontally, but that's it, no mirror display, or even a signal on the other displays. I checked the cable by plugging in my tablet and it showed up just fine.
Anyone have any thoughts on a possible fix for this?

Can you do a backup and hard reset, just to rule it out?
I'm not too sure as to how to do that with this phone. I did the one click root method to get my SU fix. Number one use of hdmi is my main source of entertainment from my appradio

So after you rooted it stopped working...?
I'm confused. Please provide more detail.
Either way, I would be curious if a hard reset fixes it.
I've been rooted for a few months now, just earlier this week I plugged the phone in and nothing happenned. So I tried it on my big screen ans same thing, the screen just rotates horizontally and doesn't send video out. However I plugged in my tablet on both the radio and the head unit with that same hdmi cable and everything showed up clear. Seems strange that this happens all of a sudden. I use a air blower at 50 psi to blow out the port and the plug to see if it was just dirty, but nope.

What was the result of a hard reset? That would rule out any software issues.

Well, in TWRP it's really stupid simple...
I assume you don't have TWRP, so I guess FXZ is your only option to hard reset? Maybe there's some way to do it with the stock recovery, but I have no clue how.
Are you sure you hard reset it? The phone was wiped, started fresh like it was day 1 with none of your info on it?
Maybe you should just take the device to your provider's store and see if there is something actually wrong with it... since I can't see the device or what you're doing to it, all I can do is speculate.
I took it to my local radioshack and they gave me a pamphlet with a number to call :/

Since when is Radio Shack your provider?
(For example) If you have insurance through Sprint, take it to a Sprint store - which is a repair store - look on their site to find one. Not all stores are repair facilities.
Well you see.......long story short, I used to be an assistant manager for one back in january, that's when I got my photon q and their insurance for free. I've gone to all the corporate sprint stores and all of them want a $35 down payment since I don't have sprints insurance.

I did take the phone apart and found that the WiFi connection was loose. I corrected that. I started the phone back up and held the Sim card down in the slot while booting and the phone miraculously got 41asu.....for about 5 minutes and now its holding at a steady 2asu. So, would there definitely be something wrong with the Sim card? Or could the Sim port be going as well? Is there a way to test the Sim connectivity in the phone settings?

The lower the asu the better, in contrast to a higher dbm is a better signal.
2 asu is a pretty strong signal, you should be around -80 dbm.
Edit; Nevermind I mixed it up, a higher asu is better. I still think it's radio related though, but changing your sim card is an easy potential fix.

Did you contact them? I'm curious to see what they say.

Hi David,
Often times when devices become bricked, it results in your NV items being damaged and causes this problem. Here is a guide that highlights this issue, and will tell you how to remedy the situation.

ugh. I really dont want to go messing around with the NV items if that is the case. Im in the process of flashing with ODIN now. I'll update if that works or not.
What is your IEM Showing?
If its been erased, then ODIN to stock firmware probably won;t fix that,
but, have you check your mobile network setting to see if you are on the correct network?
If you are with Verizon it should be set to CDMA, not GSM.

Software is not intermittent. Hardware can be. You may have a broken or loose antenna cable or connector inside the phone.

Found it!!!!! I took the phone apart one last time and found that one of the antenna contacts was bent and not touching the backplate. I bent it back and I'm getting perfect signal. Thank you guys for the input and feedback!

Hi David,
I'm glad to hear you resolved this issue. This is quite surprising as the S3 is relatively easy to work on internally and we had never had this issue after working on one. I'll take note of this in case it's ever observed in the future. In the mean time, anyone ever having a questions regarding their order, just call us at 657-444-JTAG. Rock on buddy!
