Default Calendar View - HTC One S

Not sure if I am missing a setting or something, bt how do I make "day view" the default calendar view. I do not want it to start in full month view. Please help.
Thanks

Anyone?

I thonk it's not possible. Even on CM9 or CM7 or any other ROM I tried on my Defy this was not possible with the google calendar app.
Sent from my HTC One S using XDA

Not sure if this what you are looking for but go to setting, tab setting and drag the day view to the first position from the left.

I tried that, but after a while, month view still comes up as default.

[Q] New Charge new questions

Well, probably old questions but I didn't see any threads dealing with this.
First one is-- is there a way to select multiple emails for deleting (or moving, etc.)? Coming from a Droid X where this was option was always available. I'm using the stock email app on the Charge.
Second question-- there's an icon at the top of the homescreen that looks like a circle with a plus sign in the middle-- what is that? It looks like the VZNavigator icon but I haven't used that program yet.
Third question- regarding the four non-hardware buttons on the bottom of the screen (phone, contacts, messaging and apps)-- can I change the apps those buttons control? If yes, how? Couldn't find anything in settings.
Last question-- the Droid had a feature that I loved-- you swipe the puzzle piece to the right to unlock the screen AND/OR you swipe to the left to put the phone in silent mode, easy as pie. Loved that. Any way to achieve silence with a simple swipe like that? Or is there a widget for accessing silence?
Thanks very much,
Greg

1. In Gmail all you do is tap the check marks. Stock email app I don't know. Maybe try pressing the menu key and looking for a multi select?
2. Can't picture that. Can you provide a screenshot? (back+home)
3. AFAIK, no.
4. Any rom here has a better lockscreen. The puzzle is crap. I have the 4Tab TSM part on my phone (Gummy 2.0 FTW!). Unlock, silence, phone, and messaging.

Thanks for the quick response.
Nothing in the menu for selecting multiple emails that I could find. That's an important feature so I gotta believe there's an option for this somewhere.
I assume you rooted your phone? Just got mine two hours ago and it seems kinda early for that. I'm gonna give it the two weeks to see how much I can learn about this thing. Coming from the Droid X, which was a great phone but had it's share of issues. But I got used to a lot of the good things about that phone. Like the silence swipe and multiple emails select thing.

Yep. Flashed a new rom the day I got it. All roms here will root you, unless it's a stock rom rip. The swipe to silence is fixed when you flash a new rom
I wonder why the stock app doesn't have multi select. It wouldn't make sense not to have it. I'm sure it's there, we just can't find it. I can't really help you there, as I've never used it.

In the stock email app there should be little check marks on the far left side of the email. You check which ones you want to (Mark as Read) or (Delete). You should be able to check off as many individual emails as you like.

In regards to your 3rd question about changing the icons in the dock, you can only do that if you download a 3rd party launcher, such as ADW. I don't remember if you need root for it since I rooted mine 2 days after I bought it. If anything, you could always root your phone and try it out. There are packages/ROMs/kernels on this forum that you can flash to your phone to unroot it and bring it back to factory stock.
You can definitely run LPP without rooting.
My boss uses it in his DroidX and it's not rooted.

Not true. You can change icons in the dock on the Touch Wiz launcher. In the application drawer press the menu button (bottom left hand key), press the edit soft key that comes up, and drag and drop your icons to the dock.
I would recommended downloading an alternative launcher from the market to speed up your phone. Root is not required to use alternative launchers.

The circle with a cross in it (with some curved lines next to it if you have Google/Verizon location services enabled) is indicating that you have emergency GPS enabled. You cannot remove this icon without root as far as I know and you are required by law to have emergency GPS enabled.

You guys are awesome- thanks so much for the help. I will be trying out TouchWiz and ADW today, and ignoring that extra unecessary icon...
The un-ability to select multiple emails is going to be an issue for me- suggestions on workarounds or alternate email programs would be appreciated. I've got two email accounts plus the obligatory gmail.
TouchWiz crashes for some reason but ADW is doing what I wanted- thanks again!
The stock email app on my phone has check marks next to the messages for multiple selection. Try making sure that you are on the latest stock firmware (EE4)

I think I wasn't clear on what I'm looking for-- I want a menu selection option that says "select all" in the email app. The Droid X has it and I really want that feature back. A few minutes ago I selected, one at a time, 30 emails to delete- very tedious.

Okay, sorry about the confusion. I do not see a select all either. If you have several selected then there is an option to unselect all. I agree that this should be a feature.

[Q] Lost email full landscape with gingerbread

since upgrading to gingerbread, when i turn phone to landscape in email, the folder list remains on the left side and the email i'm reading is on the right. With Froyo, the folder list was not there, providing full landscape for the email itself. what, if anything, am i doing wrong?
do you use the Gmail app or the regular Email app? I use Gmail and I get full landscape.

That's just how the email app works in GB.
Sent from my SAMSUNG-SGH-I997 using Tapatalk 2
I've noticed a bug in the Gmail app in that if you go in to landscape mode before opening an email, it doesn't observe the setting to disable the top context menu to get a near full-screen effect. If you back out of the email, go in to vertical mode and open the email and *then* go in to landscape mode, it works.
Is that what you're referring to?
when you are in the email app. hit the menu button. then go to acct settings and the very last setting should say split view mode and just uncheck that and it will hide the email list and only show the current one you are looking at.
Hope this helped

New to android, concerns with HTC One S [feedback report (long))]

I'm posting here because this community might share these concerns
HTC One S
Edit: Device is Stock, ICS Sense 4
Carrier: Virgin Mobile Canada
As most reports, its best to start with praise, but since I don’t want to make this long, I’m just going point of the negatives (sorry htc).
Hands down this is the best phone I have every used. Aside from a few learning curves, I have successfully transitioned into the android environment with minimal setbacks. I'm honestly very impressed with how good the user experience is.
FACEBOOK Widgets doesn't show latest posts (fail)
A good example is the Facebook widget. The widget will only show posts hours old unless I open the Facebook app and refresh the news feed. This defeats the purpose of having a widget for quick access to information. The widget doesn’t update in real-time (notifications are not pushed) and the interval to check for updates seems very sparse.
Browser menu does not always appear (Landscape mode) (fail/concern)
When you scroll you sometimes get the menus to appear (they slide in from top and bottom), others times it does not appear. Sometimes when you scroll fast, or slow. It seems to appear whenever it feels like it, making it difficult to get to the menu when you want. Though, I can always scroll to the top of the page.
edit: see it in action here: youtube. com/ watch?v=hSYRYCO5ytU#t=08m20s thanks moonrock
Message notifications (concern)
I really like the notification tray at the top of the screen, it provides information about downloads, pending transactions, new messages, etc., I use multiple chat clients (gchat, whats app, yahoo, sms). It would be nice if a new message would stay at the top for a few seconds so I can click it and immediately switch to it, instead of having to go home> swipe down> select message.
edit: I can just swipe, no need to go home first (unless it's full screen app). thanks edscholl
Indication LED (concern)
The flashing led works fine, but since it is embedded deep into the shell of the phone, you will not see it when its sitting away from you at an angle. I understand its to keep the phone sleek, and its something to adapt to.
Dropbox sync (concern)
The Dropbox app includes the option ‘Turn on Camera Upload’. This works great! The problem is, if I delete a photo from my Dropbox, it remains on my phone, and vice versa. So they are not in sync, and I can't find a solution.
edit: I tried Dropsync, and picked up the pro version to sync multiple folders. Sense 4 stores multiple files per image (thumbnails, preview, actual picture) in a series of folders. Deleting the files doesn't update Sense 4's image library... Great tool non the less! thanks pbelcomp
Vibrating touch (concern)
This is a really cool feature to provide tactile feedback, and it works very well! I have had it enabled for the keyboard, and I’m concerned that it may be hard on the motor or rattle the phone. Each keypress causes vibration. When typing a long messages, the vibrate will go on/off as long as I type. I’m sure this causes wear that is not necessary? Just a concern if its OK to use like this.
Home screen widget real estate (4x4 virtual grid) – would like to see 5x5? (concern)
With the screen resolution becoming higher, and screen size larger, it would be nice to have more room for icons and widgets.
edit: there are 3rd party apps that help with this (Apex, LauncherPro), thanks moonrock
Display quality (praise):
I first had issues with the jaggyness of small print, enough that I was worried it was going to be a problem and give me headaches. The fact that if you look closely, you can see as what I describe as ‘space between the pixels’, which is caused by the PenTile subpixel pattern. Example found here:
After using the phone for a few days, I’ve actually come to appreciate this feature. I’ve noticed the screen has become much easier on the eyes and extended use is very pleasing. I really like it!
Task switching (suggestion)
Yes there is a dedicated app switching button, but the smooth scroll and inertia makes it difficult to select the app you want (especially if your choice is right beside your current app, you need to slow down and get it just right). I suggest limiting inertia to slow swipes. Also maybe in the future, a shortcut to switch back to the previous app, a 3 finger swipe could switch back-forth between background apps.
Camera (suggestion)
This thing is brilliant! Only feedback would be to preserve the existing chosen effect. If I want all my pictures to have ‘vintage cold’, When I quit the camera and go back, it resets to ‘no effect’. Maybe this is a feature not sure.
Last but not least,
Menu: Keyboard click sound (suggestion)
Looking for sound ‘click’ when typing on keyboard. Is not in settings>SOUND, rather I found it in: Language & Keyboard > HTC Sense Input. Not a big deal, just a suggestion to include it in ‘settings>sound’ under ‘system’.

Same here - you dont have to go home. You can swipe down to see notifications from anywhere, unless you are in a fullscreen app that doesn't show the status bar, maybe?

It is a one way sync - you take a photo and it is auto-uploaded. You have to choose at that point what to keep where.

Blackberry, app switching was easier, and indicator light was more useful IMHO. But the typing is way better on this device
Hm, I see what you mean re: the browser via this video - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hSYRYCO5ytU (browser is at 7:35-ish)
You could also try a new browser (ex: Chrome) if you don't like how the built in one doesn't work how you like. Another "solution" would be to pinch to zoom out to quickly be able to get back up to the top.

your general heading is wrong. widgets certainly can update real time (clock widget for example). apparently, the facebook widget doesn't update as often as you like is the real problem (don't know as i don't use it). i'm sure there are others that you can find that might.

Interesting, I have since added the widget again, yes facebook is enabled in Accounts, and freshly synced. Facebook app is freshly updated, and friendsteam app is freshly updated, and the widget will not show the latest post. infact it keeps returning to an older post (4 hours ago) (2 posts ago it seems). I don't know why, can't tell why.

Same problem...tried everything to get it to sync normally. Only uninstalling updates and clearing data and cache seem to work as this returns to stock fb setting. Then issues with contact images not loading. Also tried disabling sense app and running only market version.
Mine is also updated and last sync is 21 hours old for the widget. I also tried a fresh authorization from fb with HTC sense and nothing.
It does not update even if I force fb to refresh or force sync under accounts.
I have since wasted enough time on it..now that Facebook is going to build a phone with HTC, hopefully they can get sense to work as it should with fb updates installed. You are not alone..Google sense and fb for more info.
It just don't work right..still awesome phone though!
Lol reading the OP made me all nostalgic thinking about the first time I used my Android phone back in the G1 days. Things were tougher then. We had no on screen keyboard, no dock shortcuts, Facebook app still sucked, and had to walk uphill in the snow both ways. But it was still the greatest phone I'd ever had

[Q] Downgrade JB Calender App with JB Calendar App possible?

Hi guys,
As the title says,
Is there any way to downgrade the Jelly Bean 4.1.3 Calendar App to the ICS 4.0.3 Calendar App?
I downloaded the Calendar.apk from somewhere that somebody submitted for ICS, but cannot implement it into JB.
Trying to work out how to strip out the JB Calendar App first though, so can anybody suggest, is this possible?
If so, or if it is possible to do or cannot do this, anysuggestions or info on how to go about this is much appreciated.
ps:
I am using Galaxy Tab 2 P5100 currently running JB v4.1.3

The JB calendar is a systemapp. You can downgrade, but it isn't recommended though. Downloadig/restoring a systemapp can caus your device to crash (had it myself once, alsu due a calendar systemapp).
PS: good alternative for the calendar is Business Calendar, which is way better than any other stock calendar.

Thanks for the advice Endie, I will check it out.
My other thought was, maybe I also asked the wrong question.
Question also should have been, is there also any way to actually make the calendar the full page size.
So when I flip pages, the calendar takes up the whole page type of thing?
Would have thought it was possible at least but so far, no cigar.
Cheers again~!

As my note is running 4.1.2 I need to click the pen marker to edit anything on the page.
When I do that and hold for 2 seconds as you say, I can move the calendar widget.
But dragging it to the left corner only adds it to another page.
Or just holding it will not select or re-size the widget at all, so its like not editable in 4.1.2
Any other suggestions?

Clock widget calendar/traffic at a glance

At a glance does nothing for me except for display the clock. I have an event coming up and get regular Google Now traffic alerts but they never show up in the widget. Both settings are on. Any ideas?
Same thing. I long press and preferences and both options are set
Same problem here, but I can't even long press the widget to get preferences. There also isn't an option for at a glance when I go into home settings.
Did a little testing. They seem to only show on gmail (possibly only primary calendar) and within 30 minutes of the event. Not very useful. Should just pull the next event

That sucks. Maybe it'll get fixed. I remember when the first Pixel came out, the weather widget only displayed the date until Google pushed an update that got the weather to actually appear.

Yikes. This does not sound good. I just posted on another thread asking if when you tap the event does it go to the base calendar or into that specific entry (which means you can't get to the calendar list from it... Gcal needs to fix that). I guess it's even worse if it won't show events.
I hope they fix it. In the meantime, at least there is a knockoff widget (another calendar widget) that is super customizable.

It goes into the event when you click on it. Deleting the event causes all sorts of issues as well. Who do they have doing QA??
I've since gone back to Nova as that widget wasnt enough to get me back to pixel launcher.

It goes into the event when you click on it. Deleting the event causes all sorts of issues as well. Who do they have doing QA??

My problem with that... If a widget goes right into a calendar event, hitting the x in the corner or the back arrow all exit the calendar app. No button / gesture can get you to the list of events or various views in the calendar app proper. So short sighted IMO.

Did a little testing. They seem to only show on gmail (possibly only primary calendar) and within 30 minutes of the event. Not very useful. Should just pull the next event

Only the primary calendar would render it useless to me anyway, since my schedule includes events from many different calendars. My phone has been delivered, but I've not had a chance to unbox so not been able to test this yet.
Ah well, the lack of customisation (such as both this widget and the search bar being fixed) meant I wasn't really planning on using the stock launcher anyway. This would just leave me one fewer thing to regret about that.
Glad to see I'm not the only one having this problem. I've enable/disabled/restarted the phone with no avail. It hasn't shown a single event or traffic update yet for me even though I have lots of google calendar events and daily traffic updates in google maps.
No luck here as well

I'll concur. Google has left themselves a lot of room for future developmental improvements.
Same here. No calendar events that are coming from Exchange server are shown. But I tried to create an event in the calendar directly on the phone and it showed up immediately. Pretty disappointing, as it's useless when only event created on the device will show. So far my experience been there is a bug after bug with this phone. Frequent app crashes with multiple apps, and especially the camera.
