Before I go further, I'm not selling anything. I was just trying to see if there would be any HTC ChaCha users out there interested in a complete black housing for their phone.
It seems that the only solution for US Version phones would be to swap out the parts for a black European version.
So that being said, I'm trying to contact a manufacturer who claims to manufacturer the parts. I just want to know if anyone on XDA would be interested just so I could guestimate and see if it would be worth it or not.

If it was good quality i'd be interested but the problem is, it's never as good as original and the fitting is never as good.
Many phones I've changed (well had them changed by nimble fingered types in UK and asia) and it's just not as good as it was....
I've always regretted doing it!

I completely agree! I once bought a complete housing for a BB curve only to find out it was painted with cheap paint, and on the most fragile plastic. I ended up doing more damage to my phone.
Anyways, I will definitely make sure its not cheap. My main concern is if it fits tightly and is solid. I'll let you guys know if I have any leads.

Ok, keep me posted please!
sent usin' tapatalk innit.
I'd be interested if the price was right, and it could be shipped to the UK.
Advice?
Im thinking about painting it black, cause its almost impossible to find any black housing for my white chacha...
What paint shall I use, or do you have any suggestions?
Thanks
BTW Im new here
I couldnt find a legit place to get parts. So i too have been thinking about coloring my case myself. You should probably use an acrylic spray paint like montana or ironlak. But i also have been thinking about using an old method for dying skateboard wheels. Basically you get some rit dye and warm water and dye the plastic for an hour or so. It seems like the white plastic will retain color.

Good luck finding someone to swap for an ordinary black cover. I have seen some that were spray painted white. I'm not fond of having something painted in my pocket, but there are probably better paints available since I painted my pager 15 years ago.
I have a white Fascinate and my co-worker has the black. It is not just the battery cover that is white, it is also the piece around the phone above the chrome.

Same here. The volume rocker, power button and micro usb port cover are also pigmented white. With out those particular parts being white, I think a white cover on a black phone would look rediculous.
Now you guys are just being picky. Ill be happy with just the white battery cover. So what about the volume rocker and USB cover.

i was just playing with a white fascinate at best buy and it felt sturdier than ours does
Why not just wrap the back with a Zaggskins? So many more options for customization than just black or white.
also check out http://www.decalgirl.com/item.view/53217, available in a matte finish. I don't know what their template for the back actually looks like and if it's a seamless application (without cutouts to address the corners) but you can get a matching front as well.
Mass produce please
Would someone please just start mass producing back covers in different colors and materials for this device. I'd love an aluminium one or any metal in that case, even wood would be cool OR JUST PLASTIC in different colors! I feel like there is high enough demand for this, yet no one has jumped the gun to go on Alibaba and find a factory willing to pump them out.
Sourcingmap.com represents a China factory that is already making replacement battery covers for the Galaxy i9000. I sent an email to suggest a few tooling changes to open up a much wider market...
Hey I got my decal girl skin yesterday and LOVE it. It fits perfectly on front of phone and the back piece is a solid piece without slits. The entire side around the whole phone is not covered but it gives good contrast. Exactly the look I was looking for. Most of my friends are amazed with how it looked and thought I had gotten a new phone. A+ for decal girl. I'm now looking to skin all my portable electronics. By the way hooray for smart keyboard pro with iPhone skin. I don't know but I came from an iPhone and this keyboard is one of the most accurate with the iPhone like correction. Awesome keyboard.

Any chance we could see a pic of the installed skin? I spent a little time talking with a decalgirl rep and decided not to go with their product because it sounded like the coverage on the back corners wasn't sufficient.
Ill try to get pics up. I work retail commission so I'm stuck at work. And I only have the back on now. My 1 year old ripped the front right off in two pieces.

Spoke with both Best Buy and Samsung today in my free time at work.
Best Buy said to contact their parts department at 1-888-237-8289
Samsung Rep also told me to call parts and said they will be able to place the order for you.
"Melvin: You can call official Samsung parts dealer at 1800-627-4368. Timings: Mon – Fri. 9am to 6pm EST."
I haven't called either yet, but will get around to it to see if we can buy a replacement and the cost of it. (I can't imagine it would cost more than the black which is about $7-8)
Sweet let us know

to those that plan to skin their phones, do you plan to put it in a case?
I have a nice case (platinum from best buy) but between the case and the clip, there is no point for me to skin the phone or buy a white case.
I'm curious what you will do once you skin it? will you just use a slip case?
If i had get another case to have the white color, i'd do this one.

Hi Guys,
i am thinking of buying a DesireZ at the end of the month. The so called "Hinge-Problem" is none for me (tried the phone in some stores), BUT:
I fount a topic on a german forum, where many users report of color-changes near the metal-parts on the plastic of their phone - some think it is caused by some bags, others say it is the plastic itself which changes color perhaps because of water or sweating....
Here is a link to some pictures a guy posted there to show you what i mean: http://img19.imageshack.us/g/pc0343121024x768.jpg/
On the Pic 2 and 3 you see some red/purple spots....
Can anyone here confirm this??
If this is a material-problem (and this is what it looks like, because users say they tried everything to remove the color without succes....) this would be a no-go for me to buy this phone
Pls help me

The point is, that this guy is not the only one.... there are many concerning about this problem which confuses me a little (maybe i should pick another phone....)
probably from rubbing in my opinion
This is a known issue. Someone brought this up in a thread on here not too long ago. Some people said their phone changed color without the bag. I'm thinking it might have something to do with the oil from your hands when you old the phone or the acid. I had a pair of glasses do the same thing, and the eye doctor said it was due to the acid in my skin or something along those lines. I put a case on my phone and have had no problems so far.
That's to bad
Go buy a cheap g1 oem slip case thing. I love mine. I got 4 sitting right here next to my bed since I loose them all the time they r like 3 bucks a piece

Hmmm too bad had many phones but never had any problems like this - and in my opinion a phone for more than 500€ should have better material than THIS
I guess i will have a closer look on the DHD since i never heared about big problems there

I've been using one of these slip cases on my phone since I got it. Its a great fit and protects my phone from the innards of my pockets =)
Needless to say, I don't have any discoloration issues here.
ah yes.. I have this problem too.. I brought it to the service center and they change the housing for me.. and the back feels sticky too i feel that this is due to charging the phone and the back of the phone gets too hot..
I bought a cheap holster for my Nexus One and now it has similar markings as those pictures, now for my Z I bought a OEM HTC Leather holster, yes it was a bit expenssive but so far nothing the Z is like new. moral of my story ? spend a little extra get a better case or holster etc, stay away from chepos.
i have some discoloration on the gray plastic on the sides of the keyboard. The demo unit at our t-mobile also has it too.
I have no discoloration on my phone what so ever. But I keep mine in a sleeve style case. I have had out since launch. In my opinion, u won't get much better build quality then this phone. At least not on an android.

My wife has red discoloration on the corners of her G2. Hers is from a new red purse she got. It has a little pocket that her phone fits in and I believe the dye leached into the plastic.
My G2 has no color issues but the film is coming off my battery case as seen in other threads.

desire z
iv had mine since it was released and i dont have it in any kind of case, im pretty carefull with my stuff.
i use it every day and have dropped it a couple of times. i have no discoloration or scratches.
same thing with my "z" but its not a " carring case" issue
I have red coloration on the corners near the track pad
I did contacted clove.co.uk where I bought it and they said that they contacted the HTC and they said that there is no red base plastic used and it's not the coating coming off and that was caused by some external contact. Well, I carried it in the jeans pocket made of dark red fabric, but is that really extreme conditions to dye the coating that easy? I don't think so.
No issues with mine, I luv it.
Have 3 different cases and no issues.
Hey guys, I have a few scratches and scuffs on my black HTC Desire S around the edges. I have a case on it but it was my cousin's and i think he went a while without a case. I'm thinking of spray painting it to the original colour. If i can't get the original one then possibly a different colour. How would I go about doing that and what kind of paint would i need? Strange question for XDA, eh?
Thanks guys.

Dude do not spray paint. Spray paint will be much weaker than the original coating... so it will wear off gradually. There is another Option though- http://braindeadlock.net/macbook-dye-project/
You can replace all the housing, with a new one, more expensive then paint, but it can actualy "renew" your device.
Search ebay for item number 260851559777.

My corners are stripped from drops and i want to resell it in january when i get my note 2. So i bought a new battery and battery cover now i just need to find a way to repaint the chrome bezel, any ideas?
Sent from my SGH-T959V using Tapatalk 2
The problem is any paint is probably going to scratch off fairly quickly as its only going to be painted on the surface. They are certain spray paints that bond better with the actual plastic, but the name escapes me right now. Also, to get the bezel off, I think you have to strip it right down and remove the screen as well which needs a heat gun. I've have my system nearly apart except for the lcd/screen heatgun thing, and the bezel never came off.
Im just looking to paint over im very new when it comes to all this im just looking for a simple way to do it.

Well I'm trying to tell you there isn't a simple way, if you just paint over it with a brush and some paint, it will wear off in a week as it won't bind to the plastic and will just be painted on top of the chrome finish.
You need to take it apart like here, http://www.ifixit.com/Teardown/Samsung+Galaxy+S+4G+Teardown/4977/1 to get the silver bezel off, sand it down to remove the chrome finish and create a rough surface for the paint to bond to, use a plastic bonding paint and paint it and put it back together.
I have customized PS2, PS3, Xbox, XBox 360, PSP, DS, PC's, so I'm trying to tell you the work involved to do a job that will last longer than a week. Otherwise, put a case on it so you don't see the chrome. lol. Seems the easiest way if you're not comfortable taking the system apart and heatgunning the screen off, sanding, buying the proper paint, etc.
I also think repainting the bezel is a way to mislead people into thinking its never been dropped. Which is not the right thing to do. Just tell people the truth and you will probably get a decent price. This phone wont sell for a bunch anyway. Plus if you half ass it like getochkn is telling you NOT to do the buyer can return it or do a chargeback on paypal. Especially if you dont inform them you painted the bezel.
Im not trying to mislead anyone i just want it to look nice.
Sent from my SGH-T959V using Tapatalk 2
I would just not worry about it. The process is either going to look crappy or more work than it appears you are looking to do.
If you are good at taping things off you could hand sand the bezel and tape the screen off and spray it but you still run the risk of messing up.

Well Eollie is right, but if you are hellbent on "pretty-fying" your phone and obviously you don't have the mechanical skill to disassemle it, the skill to replate it, let alone repainting it(yes, painting done right is actually harder then electroplating) then this would be your best option http://www.bare-metal.com/bare-metal-foil.html it's called chrome leafing and is by far the best option for you, other then just giving it a thorough cleaning and being done with it.
I saw a guy in the Vibrant forum complete changed the front cover to white. The kit sells on Amazon for about $70. It looks very nice 2.http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1762191

I just found out that the silver bezel is replaceable. It costs about $9 for a "used like new" one. Actually, most of the parts on our phone are replaceable. Let me know if u need a link to that website I saw.
Man, I got to stop reading this forum and start working on my car website.
Sent from my SGH-T959V using xda premium
the issue is that the chrome isn't a paint, it's a finish that's baked on, so any sort of "touch-up" paint is going to look like crap.
You can try to polish it, but be careful since the spinny-type of polishing bits generate heat, which can damage the plastic bits on the phone if you're not careful.
Your best bet is to get a replacement part like gizmo mentioned.
I bought my N4 as an all black phone. Unfortunately, my back glass broke a few months after I got it, and the price was a little more than I wanted to spend. Lately I'm getting a few more hours at work and I think I am in an ok position where I can finally afford a repair, and since the back glass has to go anyway, I thought I'd look for a sheet of white glass to replace it. Anyone know where to get a replacement? Preferably OEM, and without the back housing. I'd like to keep this as cheap as possible. The fact that white glass is more rare is already going to jack up the price to my cap, I think
Thanks, guys!

While you are right, this is an easy solution, it's just not the one I'm looking for. The glass is shattered, all the way at the very bottom next to the speaker, and it spider webs halfway up the back. I really like the look of the white, or 'panda' N4, and the skins just aren't the same as glass. For the cost of 2 skins I can replace my glass and have it customized in a way, too. That's a win-win in my book
