Rom Toolbox and Market apps - AT&T Samsung Galaxy S II Skyrocket SGH-I727

I used Rom toolbox to change my LCD density to 180 and that worked fine however in doing so many market apps either say incompatible or they disappear.
youtube update shows incompatible
netflix shows incompatible.
i purchased LCD Modder pro but that is so convoluted and hard to use AND it manangd to bootloop my phone just using the TEMP option for fix market app which stated (this will not harm your phone only not work)
so i used Rom tool box to change BACK to Density of 240
cleared my market data and cache
booted into CWM
cleared dalvik and fixed permissions 3 times each.
rebooted phone and still netflix is missing and doesnt show in the market.
what gives?
did rom Toolbox do something to my build.Prop now permanently? like stamp it with a line somewhere that is causing market issues?
the only way i can get things back to normal is by reinstalling the rom all over again. ugh...

ROM Toolbox and ICS
Hi,
I've been using ROM Toolbox as long as I've had a rooted Android phone. I recently paid for the pro version to get more customization of the framework. However, it appears that the only icon you can change in ICS is the battery (at least in RTB). I contacted the developer (who is a really nice guy and got back to me very quickly) and asked about this. From what I can gather, he's waiting until there is more development for ICS framework before updating ROM Toolbox to customize the UI as much as it could under GB.
With your specific problem, I recommend contacting him via e-mail. He is prompt in replying and may be able to offer an explanation/solution.
Hope this helps!
EDIT: Oh, I almost forgot. I had some bad luck messing with LCD density before (on GB), so I just stay clear of that. While there's an advantage to gaining more real estate, the SR's screen is so big, I don't see the need. There are some launchers that let you expand the 4x4 grid, too.

He never gets back to me and all I want is a refund for the stupid thing. I hate that app.

Deleted post. Sorry didn't read thoroughly.

Change the density with toolbox and apply the permanent fix with lcd modder pro, works for me on mhx ics 5.1 perfectly.
I read that changing the density with lcd modder will cause boots loops.

Boot loops and screen density
Hey there
I ran into a similar problem - was running SKY ICS UCLD2 (Seans) - First Base, update 5 and downloaded LCD Density Modder Pro. Set the resolution to 190, which I had read was usable, and the phone went into a blank screen bootloop. I ended up reflashing, and then sean released an update with the modified 190 resoution. I flashed that after some more updates, and found I could no longer add applications from the market (Incompatible Device etc). I reinstalled LCD Density modder Pro, and chose the permanent market app fix and it's worked flawlessly for me..
So, you too can probably use LCD Density Modder Pro to fix your market problems.
I am very tempted to try setting things via ROM Toolbox - apparently 210 should give closest to actual density.

* Requires Root! *
Read second post for information about Market Compatibility Fix
This program will modify your Android phone/tablet's LCD density in order to show more things on the screen. A lower DPI value means smaller text/icons, and more screen real estate! Gives the effect of having a higher lcd resolution.
Works on Galaxy Nexus and Android 4.0 ICS!
Change the density in the following ways:
1. Enter the exact dpi in the textbox
2. Move the slider left and right
3. Click the plus/minus buttons next to the slider
4. Choose from a list of "standard" dpi values
5. Choose from recent/favorite dpi values you have used before (Pro only)
Warning! Changing DPI values may cause some apps to crash or display incorrectly. Also, if you set a dpi that is incompatible with the device or OS, then it may fail to boot, and you will have. I recommend doing a full backup of your system before using this program if you are new to changing your dpi. If your phone fails to boot, you cant restore the build.prop file using adb from recovery mode. I am not responsible for any damage done to your device. Use at your own risk!
LCD Density Modder (Free - Android Market)
Pro Benefits:
- Fix market compatibility issues (permanently)
- No ads
- Support developer
- Restore from backup, either full build.prop or dpi value only
- Add, remove, import, and export your favorite dpi values
- Pro only settings (hide warnings, etc)
- Faster updates
The Pro version includes the ability to download and install a modded market. This modded market fixes the "This device is not supported" error message in the Android market when using an unsupported dpi!
Modded Market Features:
- Download and install in just 2 simple clicks.
- Robust dpi spoofing. Choose from 120, 160, 240, or 320 dpi to spoof to the market. Should permanently enable compatibility for your device.
- No matter whether the online market server thinks you are compatible or not, the modded market will NEVER display a message of incompatibility (no matter the reason either).
- Will never attempt to update itself to a newer version of the stock market.
- Ability to purcharse paid apps.
- At the moment, any updates to the modded market will come with new updates to the app, and will REQUIRE the new version of the app to install it.
LCD Density Modder Pro (Android Market)
will "fix market compatibility issue" circumvent the dpi-restiction on some apps in the market?
Nice app man, thanks!
Just got my first bootloop
gone for the pro version, thanks for making an ICS compatible dpi app
hi all,
if you config LCD by dpi program, may have some bad effect to LCD hardware?
I will go for pro version, but how it is with 'fix market compatibility issue'? How does it work? Does it mean that I can have Nexus S with LCD density 200 and won't have any compatibility issues with Android Market? Then it will be great and I will definitely buy it.

Yes, it means that you can have your dpi set at anything you want, and the market will not complain that the app is not compatible with your device.
The old version 1.7.3 and before had a temp fix which worked for the most part, but the new version 1.8.0 that i just uploaded to the market has a permanent market fix! (PRO ONLY)
LCD Density Modder Pro v1.8.0
Ok, thanks for the info, that was the only thing why I didn't use different dpi then 240 on my Nexus S - lots of apps were not compatible.
Will buy it and try it today
And new market fix is now working for me on Galaxy Nexus AOKP Rom and 246 dpi.
Great!
Is it possible to have some more feedback on the market fix.
Some developers on XDA have been looking for a solution (since the fix consisting on rebooting and clear the market data option doesn't work for some) and this guy (the app's developer) just solved the problem like this...
It sounds a bit too good to be true.

What i did was decompile the market app into smali, and modified the code to fix some of the compatibility issues. I am also the guy who decompiled swype and modified it to work on the Galaxy Nexus.
If you need more opinions read the reviews of the app on the market. The only problems i have found are people who did not have busybox installed and had issues installing the modded market. When that was the case, i gave them manual install instructions, and it worked fine for them afterwards.
Here is what the modded market does:
- It is hard coded to send whatever density value you choose (120, 160, 240, 320) to the online market when you check in. Unfortunatley it is not perfect because there are a few times when it somehow registers the wrong number.
- If you ever lose online market compatibility / the movies section again, you can go to the Temp Fix tab and there is a button there to Clear Market Data. No reboot required, just clear that and you should be compatible next time you open the market.
- No matter whether the online market server thinks you are compatible or not, the modded market will NEVER display a message of incompatibility. I tested this by force spoofing an incompatible dpi (321). The movies section was missing, and the online market wouldn't let me install certain apps, but the modded market did let me install those incompatible apps.
- The modded market will never attempt to update itself to a newer version of the stock market. I'm hoping this fixes the intermittent losses of compatibility but who knows.
Sorry I didn't know you were the developper. Had I known I wouldn't have said "this guy"
I just found it strange that only you came up with this solution even though people are pointing out this problem and nobody came up with a 100% effective solution.
Now I have the explanation, I'll probably download the app
it does work, I'm running my SGS 2 at 200 dpi and no more incompatible apps, sir, you are a genius. bought the pro version, thanks!
Nice app. Thanks.
there is a problem with the modded market, cannot buy paid apps anymore, it give me an error. Tried to restore stock market within the app, no joy. cleared market cache and data, no joy. restored stock market with titanium(without uninstalling first) , no joy. weird thing is that market doesn't show any incompatibility with different dpi than stock (240). anyway, only possible fix for me was to uninstall market with titanium and restore stock market.
From the technological mouth of Azatoth
edit: new version fixed everything, thanks man.
I just updated LCD Density Modder Pro to v2.0.0 last night. It includes a new version of the modded market. You will need to redownload and reinstall the new modded market after updating the app. For the time being, any new updates to the market will come with a new update to the app, and will REQUIRE the newer version of the app to download it.
I am hoping that i have fixed the permanent mod this time because i found a value that was abstractly calculated using the dpi, and it is a value being sent to the market's servers, so i am pretty sure it is the thing that I have been missing this whole time.
My phone was at a point of non compatibility, and i installed the newest modded market (without clearing market data). When i changed google accounts the selected google account was now compatible. Usually when one account goes incompatible and you select another account it becomes incompatible also, but not in this case.
Once you guys update to v2.0.0 and install the new modded market, please let me know if your device loses compatiblity at any time. If a few days go by and no reports of lost compatibility then we can confirm it is permanent.
Full Changelog:
v2.0.0
- Modded Market: More robust dpi spoofing (should be permanent this time)
- Modded Market: Fixes finite scrolling of apps glitch (top free, top paid, etc)
- Modded Market: Fixes a server authentication glitch with older devices (This should fix purchasing of paid apps on older devices)
- Added sanity check for required commands needed to install modded market
- Added link to get busybox from market if device fails sanity check
LCD Density Modder Pro v2.0.0
how did you manage to not break purchasing when you recompiled Market? I thought Google only accepted purchases from the "real" market with valid signature?
Love the app. Bought the pro version. Working flawlessly. Thanks to the dev.
price increased from $1 to $3? ouch!

Market Fix

I am having a problem with full market on my skyrocket. Can someone post there build prop settings that pertain to market that can install andie graph?
Thanks
The Airplane mode and wifi on trick doesn't work I think I need some kind of build prop edit.
Here is my buildprop for my rom that I am almost ready to release. any help would be good
apps that I know are compatible with my device the market says now they are not
lcd density changer no good either
Try posting in the dev forum, to be honest most of the people with the knowledge to help u only read that section
Only time I've run into this issue was changing the pixel density to something other than 240. Changing it back always fixed it. If you say you've tried that and it's still a no go, then I dunno. Here's the build.prop from the Sky ICS RC7-Speed ROM (Faux kernel), though if it helps. I briefly compared them in Meld, and they are not at all similar. Not even close.
if you changed your LCD density, you need to clear cache and data from Market in Manage Apps and from Download Management. then try Market again.

Has anyone successfully changed DPI?

I just tried changing DPI, and while it worked, it killed everything in the process.
Apps are missing from the market.
Touchwiz is not at all adjusting (On SKY ICS)
Dialer also didn't feel like adjusting
Everything else is looking good. What was your solution? Finding a different launcher?
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1639213
You'll have to get a tweaked version or modify it yourself (LCD Modder), with a non supported display google play will not display certain apps that dont support it.
I use apex launcher and GO contacts. No issues with DPI. You can use LCD Density Modder Pro to fix the play store. I do not recommend actually changing DPI with it as it gave me a boot loop and screwed up my phone forcing me to do a restore. This may be an isolated incident.

Apps missing from market: This is because you changed DPI. You have two options:
Download LCD Density Modder Pro and use "Fix Market Compatibility Issues"
Use the fix located here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1639213
Touchwiz not adjusting: Touchwiz doesn't do well with a modded DPI. I'd use a different launcher such as Apex, GO Launcher, ADW Ex, etc.
Dialer not adjusting: Stock dialer will not adjust. Try exDialer or Dialer One
I personally run my DPI at 206 and have not had any issues with bootloops. For our device, I wouldn't try running anything lower than 190.
Hit "Thanks" if this helps
Edit: NOTE! Don't use LCD Density Modder Pro to change the DPI, just to fix the Market. It doesn't do well with changing the DPI on the Skyrocket.

Any reason 206 vs 200? Prolly not much of a difference but still curious. Also guess that confirms lcd Modder Pro issue I had is not isolated.

206 is the native density according to the specs (so I've heard, can't remember where I read it).
That said, I have mine at 206 as well and don't have any issues. I switched to exDialer for the phone.
Only issue I have is with Mort Player... it installed on stock, and is still installed, but the market no longer sees it on the phone (still says it's compatible from the web, though), so I can't upgrade it... Bah!

[Q] Increasing screen real estate (changing DPI) on P3113 stock rooted?

Hey guys,
I'm trying (without luck so far) to change the DPI setting on my tablet so that I can have more screen real estate.
I'm running stock (ICS) rooted on my Galaxy Tab 2 7" - this ROM:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1798283
So far, I've tried:
- Editing build.prop myself to change DPI manually
- Using an app from the Play story
- Following the suggestions in this thread: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1826067
(no luck at all, because this app doesn't even include the lcd density slider)
In all cases, I either get no result, or I get a black startup screen. After each method/approach, I restore a clean backup from CWM (so the approaches aren't conflicting with each other).
I can't get anything to work. Any suggestions?
Did you try "Rom Toolbox Lite" from the play store. You need root to use it.
Performance > Build.prop Tweaks > LCD density ... pick what you want > Reboot.
Sorry if you tried that already but that's the easiest way to do it as far as i know.
May be because of stock rom try cm10 from www.teamhacksung.org you will not be disappointed i use it now marvellous !!!

I did indeed try that. Unfortunately, the LCD density simply isn't an option under the Build.prop tweaks menu. I'm guessing that this has something to do with the fact that my build.prop actually contains no reference to LCD density. The normal build.prop entry isn't there. I don't understand the nuts and bolts of this well enough to know why, but somehow, the system is getting its LCD density settings from something other than build.prop.
I've truly read every item in build.prop, and nothing appears to be related to LCD density, even by another name. It just doesn't seem to be in there, which is probably why Rom Toolbox Lite is intelligently removing that particular slider option from my view.

I'm completely open to going to CM10, but I'll tell you my reservation (and maybe you can tell me if I'm just missing something obvious):
I tried two or three of the CM10 roms yesterday. In all cases, when I booted to my homescreen, it was stuck in landscape mode. It wouldn't rotate into portrait, no matter what I did. I spent hours combing through threads, trying to figure out why one of the most basic aspects of being a tablet (the ability to rotate orientations) was not working. I finally came across a solution that required downloading a new launcher APK. I applied the solution, and it worked. But it felt glitchy, and the whole user experience situation was a bit disappointing. It didn't feel smooth, not that their was intense lag, but there was a noticeable UI performance hit (at least in my own subjective opinion).
It IS sort of killing me that I can't get the DPI to something more reasonable though - so I'm a motivated CM10-er. I just can't deal with a tablet that I'll practically never use in landscape, being stuck in landscape.
Have you tried setting/display/rotation and ticked autorotate, include lock screen and 0,90,180,270 degrees
You could also try Nova or apex launchers or go launcher hd i use it now

Yep. I think it's actually a known bug.
I have somewhat mixed emotions about eschewing the bloatware of the stock Samsung experience, only to put on a 3rd party launcher after the fact. But that's a philosophical debate best had elsewhere. I think my issue with CM10 or AOSP right now, is that stuff just doesn't seem to work right on the P3113. I could be wrong - in fact, I very well might be wrong. I'm not necessarily as up to date as someone who has owned this tablet for more than 3 days. But in terms of the 10 or so hours I've spent clunking away at it this weekend, it seems like some really obvious stuff is missing. (rotation, etc).

[Q] Android DPI

This is probably more of a general Android question and one that I've never been able to fully fix on any of my Android devices. When I change the dpi (currently on my RAZR HD VZW) it breaks several Play Store apps. Sometimes I can't download new apps because it will say "your device is not compatible..." and I can't even get updates to current apps I have installed. As soon as I change back to the default dpi and reboot, everything works perfectly. Is there a way around this when changing the dpi on an Android device?
Thanks,
caseym

Hi, where do you change it? Are you having a custom rom? basically you should fix the permissions, then all should be ok (on my HTC this was possible through the CodefireX settings, or an apk I used before being LCD modder); on stock I haven't seen these possibilities....

I just use Root Explorer, go into /system and open build.prop in Text Editor, change the line for lcd density, save & exit, reboot. It works and has always worked on all my devices, but like I said, it always breaks market apps.

right, do know (simply because I lost my root), but doesn't CMW have a "fix persmissions"? (coming back to my HTC I had 4ext & had this function) - basically when you fix the permissions all should be ok. remains the question now here where can you do it... (sorry, not that kind of a pro...)

Exactly! How do we do this now since we don't have CWM???
You can change the dpi of the Razr HD to 240 without breaking anything. Default is 320. And, if you use an alternative launcher, you can also set it to 200. I modified a script to allow the change easily... you can read about it here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2002914
It's primarily designed for lapdock usage, but if you wish to just change your dpi for visual reasons, it'll work as well.

OK thanks a lot for that. 240 is a little too small for me, especially since it doesn't change it to tablet mode (like my GNex did when you set it below 260). Is there any way to enable tablet mode? Like Paranoid Android look?

Using a custom launcher and setting to 200 dpi does change to a tablet mode, sort of. Make sure you pick a launcher that has tablet functionality too. Apex launcher supports 200dpi and has tablet functionality, for example. I haven't tried higher dpi with Apex but you just have to play with it.
