After a long night of disassembling and painting and reassembling ... I now have a white phone. It looks and feels great!!

Pretty snazzy eh.
Tutorial :
TAKE YOIR TIME!
HAVE A GOOD SLOT OF TIME TO DO ALL THIS LIKE 5 HRS!!
For best results disassemble the phone to strip it as best you can. There are plenty of tutorials for that on YouTube.
Sand it Down. The purpose is to have a surface the paint can stick to. I used 200 grit.
Tape up the phone all the parts you don't want to get pain.
For the screen you don't have to worry too much the paint scraped off easy with a plastic hard edge...
I used a quick dry spray paint.
Grey primer first two coats of white and one coat of clear.
Let it dry for at least 30 min. Between coats. Don't do the coats too heavy..
Now the phone may possibly have a sort of sticky feel when you hold it. But that's okay if you followed my steps it should never come off on your hands or loose its shine.
If you ever get a bad dent or screw it up or you just dont like the look...
There is no harm in doing it all over. Best to redo the entire process. Including resanding it back down to the primer should do.
TAKE YOUR TIME!!
actually looks pretty darn good, now i want to do something like this lol
I actually just dropped it and the back of it dented the paint a bit. Oops
Edit: NM its good
And so I have spoken it.. and so it shall be.
Wow,this looks awesome. What paint did you use? Give us a little tutorial. :-D Good work btw... ;-)

It appears to be a very common problem that the black paint on the Captivate's ear-piece has a tendency to scratch off VERY easily.
I am curious as to know how many people actually got fed up with trying to repair this awful blemish; and decided to just scratch all the paint off to make it look better.
Personally I removed the black paint completely and kind of like the silver that remains.
What are your thoughts?
What? I've never heard anyone mention this. My paint is fine.
first I've heard of this, and mine is just fine as well.
The paint literally flaked off of mine just by rubbing my thumb on it.
No issues here, maybe you got a defective model?

This is bizarre I've never heard of this happening lol
If my model is defective, I don't think they would ever replace it because it's physical damage.
no problem here either,,if they sound good your good to go

I actually don't talk on the device very often, I'm more so a texter
Anyway, it was more from putting the phone in and out of my pocket:
Here is a picture I just took:

Mine is fine and i carry it in my pocket with no case. I would think that the piece would be annodized and not painted. Probably got one with a bad grille. If you complain enough they may replace it - hard to say.
In all honesty, it literally started as a small chip in the "paint"; I touched that up with a sharpie.
Next day I had another chip, I rubbed it with my thumb and more came off - at that moment I decided to just rub the rest off and it just flaked away into dust.
Never thought of it....My phone is a tool not a piece of jewelery. Scratches and blemishes don;t bother me. I don;t use a s case and carry it in my pocket with keys and crap. I do use a screen protector though. As far as paint goes...Meh..not worth worrying about of "fixing"
Haha ok so let me start off by saying the glass was cracked on the camera cover anyways.
ANY IDEAS TO MAKE IT LOOK NICER ARE VERY MUCH APPREACIATED
Alright, so i got to thinking that removing that fingerprinty, smudgy glass from the display would provide for much better, less washed out pictures. So i (crudely) removed as much glass as I could and am taking suggestions on how to remove the rest. Thanks
PS I've already tried a flathead screwdriver and i felt like i was gonna snap the whole back.

It might actually not turn out that bad
almost there. Maybe a coat of black to cover up the tabs? Although it might not blend well...
I might have tried a drill with a bit just a little bigger than the actual lens.
Looking forward to before and after pics.
ETA: You could clean it up with a little black tape or a decal and some X-Acto knife work.

That occured to me after I did it X( but still the glass probably would have spiderwebbed from the drill so im just gonna go for removing all the glass.
I have a back cover without glass wanna trade?

oooo actually that sounds really nice. I was thinking more of a really light (as in consistency) black paint
someone painted his/her one s with a marker yet?
and whats the outcome does it look good or is it noticeable that it's painted?

Marker leave a slight discolouration as the ink a little shinier than the dull finish of the phone, but it isn't really noticeable unless you see it in bright light. But the problem is, markers wear off really quickly. Even an industrial strength oil and waterproof ink I tried.
I've tried satin black car scratch repair ink, looks better than the ink if applied nicely, but, it also wears off.
Yeah, I tried marker too, looked ok for a day or so, but it wore off again pretty quickly.
I wonder how easy it would be to take off ALL the MAO coating and have an awesome silver phone

Any better ideas?
The idea has been mentioned somewhere, guess the general forum. Apparently this has been done on the Sensation, looks really nice imho
Pull off the frame and sandpaper it, teardown instructions: http://m.youtube.com/#/watch?deskto...=&feature=player_embedded&v=b0jGY2N2h1U&gl=SE please do it now and post results!

It has been done on the HD2 battery cover as well, carefully sanded and polished to a near mirror finish. I suspect that was steel though, isn't the One S aluminum?
I was 90% joking; the One S is aluminium which will just rust to a dull grey colour, right? Plus, easy as it seems to get small but noticeable chips in the MAO covering, I think getting the lot off would require some serious effort. Maybe 6 months down the line when my phone really looks like cr*p, but right now it is still doable with the occasional application of black marker!
Yup its aluminium, will look a bit Mad Max I guess especially if not done with a lot of effort
Hey everyone.
This phone was dropped.
Based on taking apart my HTC Incredible 2 to try and see if i could get it to stop overheating, i am confident I can replace the screen on this one, the wife is quite fond of it.
Please give me some idea of what parts are needed.
1. There are NO VISUAL CRACKS on the device, screen etc.
2. The screen seems pretty responsive but i cant really test every part of it due to the display issues...
thanks in advance, i promise to click the thanks button...

If their are no cracks on the screen then its the LCD. But personally I would get the LCD/digitiser combo where they are already attached together. Much easier than trying to separate them and replace one
This is what it looks like if it'd be both the screen and digitizer
I feel your pain wish I could replace mine xD.
Sent from my Inspire 4G using xda premium
thanks to both.../
i guess it would be easier to just replace both at once. from what i have seen with taking apart my Incredible 2 you need a hair dryer to take the screen and digitizer apart, so that seems like a hassle.
I appreciate the answers.
You're welcome yeah its definitely not that easy I'd recommend getting the package over jut the LCD. Because you might break the screen when you try and take them apart. So get them together

I have replaced a LCD/digitizer for this phone also. This video shows how I did it. I think it is better to do it this way because in other videos I've seen, they have you disassemble parts of the phone that don't need to be. You may have to put down new adhesive on the back of the LCD. I did. One other thing, the light diffusers for the home, menu, back and search buttons usually don't come with the new LCD/digitizer so you will have to use your old ones. They aren't fun to put in. Good luck!!
Hello everyone,
I have this awesome case, however, the one issue I have with it is that the kickstand on it makes standing the phone up while charging impossible, because the charging port faces down.
Has anyone ever modded this? Or anyone know how to get the kickstand off so I can reverse it without causing too much damage?
I've looked inside and out, but there's no screws or any mounting type of hardware.... wonder if it's welded or glued?
This drives me nuts too, but I doubt you're going to be able to modify it without cutting into the rubber. A bummer for sure.
Best feeling/looking case but that does kinda suck

I sent Seidio an email, let's see if they reply with any helpful info.
Well, they weren't much help, but they were very nice.
But.......... SUCCESS!!!!!!!!!!! I decided to go for it.

1. take a small screwdriver to the back and pry off the black coating, you can remove it. Yes, this breaks the seal (and voids your warranty), but now you can access the entire metal assembly of the kickstand.
2. Then you flip it.
3. Install the hardcase back onto the rubber case that's on the phone (you don't need to seal it back up, cos it fits perfectly, though, you definitely can affix something to the back if you really want), and VOILA! Kickstand phone is charging!
Awesome! Thanks for taking the risk for the rest of us Will definitely be doing this.
Nice.
Now my only complaint is that the stand makes phone sit funny.
Been living with by propping it up and can continue to do so, just a slight annoyance of a other wise good case.

Rattled off a KingCobra OneX
DEFINATELY HELPFUL !!! the same reason i didn't buy this case .. now i might give it a go
This is the sweetest case around. I will be trying this mod, now......
Awesome thanks for this. Been wanting to do the same thing for a while now.
