[Q] my phone is locked again, should i use htc dev? - HTC Sensation

Hello, my phone randomly just became locked (bootloader) and my recovery has disappeared. Should I use htc DEV to unlock it? I am s-off and my hboot is 1.17.0011.

No need. Just flash CWM or 4EXT with a PG58IMG through bootloader. You can do the same with your hboot.

recoveyr manager didnt work and neither did through adb, on adb it said not allowed or something when i typed fastboot flash recovery recovery.img
Edit: I tried HTC DEV, i had used it before but now my bootloader is locked so i tried again. I got to the last stage and wrote fastboot get_oem_identifier_token or something and it just came up with error.
What can I DO!!!!

Broke my phone

Hi. Today I rooted my Desire S using this tool: http://www.unlockroot.com/
So I enabled usb debugging and clicked root, and it also got rooted.
Then I rebooted into recovery mode and clockworkmod, and wiped everything, now no matter what rom I install, it is stocked at the HTC boot screen.
The problem is now, I can't get it unrooted, because the tool unlockroot requires usb debugging to be on, but that can't be done in recovery mode, and I got no os installed.
I tried to go into fastboot, and then click unroot using the unlockroot tool, but it still won't work without usb debugging :S
does someone got any suggestions?
Is your phone S-Off or you unlocked the bootloader from HTCdev.com?
If you've unlocked your bootloader from HTCdev.com then, once you have installed the custom rom you have to do the following:
- extract the boot.img from the rom zip file that you installed and I suggest you place it in your android-sdk platform-tools folder.
- reboot your phone in fastboot
- open a command line window and go in your android-sdk platform-tools folder and flash the boot.img with the following command:
fastboot flash boot boot.img
That's what I need to do on my phone (HTCdev unlocked) when I flash any custom ROM.
it is S-on.
After I rooted it with the unlockroot tool I tried to unlock the bootloader, but I can't because when you have to enter the code on htcdev, that it generates, it fails, since the unlockroot tool changed something.
I'm trying your suggestion now, does it need to be S-off?
Can you reach the recovery? I suposse you have the clockworkmod installed, if so: can you boot into bootloader using fastboot?
We need more info

Thats it, you need it S-OFFed in order to work. Anyways, if I were you I would revert it to stock and start from the beginning.
yeah, I got clockworkmod recovery, and can boot into fastboot
I got hboot 2.00 0002
I just tried with S-on, and it got further than just booting to the HTC logo, it showed a boot screen from the room, but now it shows HTC quality briliant and is stocked there, before it was stocked at only the HTC logo.
It would maybe solve it if I get S-off ?
I clicked back button and it was into android, but as soon as i unlocked the screen, it went back to the HTC logo :S

I think flashing roms won't work with hboot 2.00.0002, you have to downgrade and s-off the phone.
Read this: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=21733356&postcount=1
and search for other threads in the forum, there are many that explains how to do that.
finally I got it working thanks alot!!! you just saved me from selling my htc desire s that i bought today ))

Bricked Sensation HELP!

I don't like starting new threads especially but I have searched and searched and not come up with an answer/problem quite the same as mine. I am not a TOTAL noob and do understand s-on, s-off, htcdev unlock etc. Here goes
I got a Sensation from a friend who acuired it from God knows when but he asked me if it can be fixed. Its currently stuck in fastboot mode. Its Locked S-OFF however NOTHING I try works. Here is some info
BOOTLOADER
*** Locked ***
PYRAMID PVT SHIP S-OFF RL
HBOOT-1.27.0000
eMMC-boot

CID
Is already Super CID = 11111111
RECOVERY
There is no custom recovery flashed and trying to flash recovery via fastboot fails saying "remote: not allowed"
FASTBOOT COMMANDS
Fastboot commands work to get cid etc but get a "remote: not allowed" to erase or flash boot, img, any rom or any hboot or ANYTHING
BOOTLOADER FLASHING
If I try to flash a firmware file through Bootloader, it parses the P58IMG.zip but fails on Bootload saying Fail-PU Partition update failed
FLASH SHIPPED RUU
Trying a shipped ROM also fails. Goes smoothly, reads current image on phone as 1.45.401.3 but once it starts updating, it sticks in waiting for boatloader and gives ERROR[171] while phone has restarted in FASTBOOT mode
HTCDEV Unlock
I thought I would give the HTCDEV method a go even though I know this is redundant since I am already supposedly s-off but even that fails cuz no lock, unlock screen comes up. Flashing of Unlock_boot.bin goes fine
I am at a TOTAL loss now cuz since I am already S-OFF, I should have been able to flash recover or flash a rom or boot image to get phone working again. NOTHING works!!
Any ideas anyone? Apologies if this has been covered before and I couldnt find it.

Have you tried playing with fastboot commander? Mabe try formatting all partitions, then installing RUU or PG58IMG ?Or try with different RUUs? The last thing I can think of is to lock the bootloader back, and try to send it to HTC with warranty.
Even fastboot commander, the same as entering commands manually can not flash anything or erase any partition. Dead end there.

what about locking it back to s-on? did you tried it? does it "run" a custom rom ?
First off to use all the fastboot commands you need to have a eng Hboot on the device. You can not use all fastboot commands with a stock Hboot which is what the Hboot 1.27.0000 that you have is. Click on this link to download the JuopunutBear eng Hboot and follow the below instructions to flash it via fastboot.
Code:
fastboot erase cache
fastboot oem rebootRUU
fastboot flash zip jb_hboot.zip
If you still can not get the device up and going using fastboot after flashing the eng Hboot, or if the Hboot will not flash you may have screwed up partitions on the the device. There is a fastboot or a adb command you can use to get a read out of the partitions but I can not remember it right now, just google it you will find it. I mention this because of the "Fail-PU Partition update failed" message you mentioned.
If it does flash the eng Hboot then you should be able to flash a custom recovery or anything else you want to flash via fastboot. If all else fails though do as gallardo5 sayed and flash the stock ROM via RUU while in fastboot and connected to your computer via USB. Then you can try to start from scratch rooting and installing a custom recovery.

Oh yes, I should have mentioned it. I did even try flashing the JB-hboots, both GB and ICS versions. Neither worked.
It gives error on erase cache, oem rebootRUU reboots back to fastboot and then flashing fails
I think you are spot on about the partitions about being mssed up. Even if they can be read out (i saw the commands somewhere myself) can they be repaired at all?
p.s. Thanks for your help
One more thing I should have mentioned and dont know how I missed, the FASTBOOT page says *** Locked *** not *** Unlocked ***. I dont know if this can/should be changed.
I am sorry in advance if I am being silly

If you have a messed up partition you can not fix it without replacing the whole board. And about the locked in fastboot that is why your fastboot commands are not working. But the fact that you can not flash the eng Hboot sorta tells me you got a bad partition and it will not take the flash. Blackwing had the same issue with his Sensation and all the best guys I know that are over on the IRC Help Now channel could not come up with a fix and finally diagnosed it as bad partitions. Hid was the exact same it would give aerroron erase cache. Find the command to get a read out on the partitions and post the read out here.

Did you try to navigate back to "HBOOT" and do a "Factory reset"?
If it does not work, maybe you should flash firmware using JTAG.

cid is HTC__001
was on stock god knows which rom, left phone on overnight, woke up in the morning and phone was off. turned it on and it's stuck in bootloop. so i thought if i could root the phone, I could install a rom through CWM. unlocked the bootloader via htcdev, fastboot flashed CWM, tried booting into CWM and it just boot loops. i then ran out of the little amount of battery i had left, and couldn't charge the phone because of bootloop. so flashed stock recovery to get phone to charge. relocked the bootloader and tried flashing "RUU_Ville_U_ICS_40_S_HTC_Europe_2.31.401.5_Radio_1.06es.50.02.31_10.09a.50.04L_release_275655_signed", flashed successfully but still bootloop. tried flashing an older version, RUU_Ville_U_HTC_Europe_1.47.401.1_Radio_0.15.31501S.13_3_10.08.31501S.04L_release_250115_signed, didn't flash due to older hboot.
unlocked bootloader again and tried HTC One S AIO Kit by Hasoon, flashed CWM and still stuck in bootloop. flashed TWRP and also stuck in bootloop. running out of ideas here
at the moment, I still have access to bootloader. anyone have any ideas?
thanks in advance

not really good with my terms. i'm guessing bootloader mode is vol dn + power?, yes i can get into that. and i can see device in fastboot aswell when i type "fastboot devices"
so simply your phone is not bricked mate, read the posts and you'll get to it very quickly.
Wish u luck

in fastboot, either reflash recovery or erase cache
thanks for the replies :good:
fastboot erase cache doesn't look like it did anything, still bootloops
i tried flashing the CWM recovery i had again via fastboot, didn't work, still bootloops when i try accessing recovery. grabbed the CWM and TWRP recovery images from HTC AIO kit, tried flashing them with fastboot, still nothing stuck in bootloop.
although once i did flash the recovery image, the htc logo screen changed in that there is now red writing underneath it:
"This build is for development purposes only. Do not distribute outside of HTC without HTC's written permission. Failure to comply may lead to legal action", after a minute, the screen goes off for 5 seconds and comes back with standard htc logo and bootloops.
any other ideas? :crying:
thanks again.

Thats a little overkill IMO
You should be able to
fastboot flash recovery pathtoyourtwrprecovery.img
boot into recovery factory reset install a rom
reboot
and you should be ok

tried that many times, but i'll try again and write what happens
i've done fastboot oem lock, it says:
(bootloader) Lock successfully...
(bootloader) TZ_HTC_SVC_DISABLE ret = 534642040 (0x1FDDFD78)
FAILED (status read failed (Too many links))
finished. total time: 0.942s
i'm guessing that's right because it's gone from "unlocked" to "relocked" in bootloader, including "security warning" added underneath it.
(erased the cache next using fastboot)
ran the RUU, completed successfully, no errors...phone rebooted, still bootloops
can still access bootloader
ran the RUU again, this time as administrator...completed successfully, no errors...phone rebooted, still bootloops
still have access to bootloader and working fastboot.
there must be some way to fix this

you are sooo right, if only i could access recovery, i know what to do
but the problem is, i can't...i've tried atleast 15 times if not more to flash as you said using fastboot, cwm twrp and stock recoveries, using many files (to rule out having a corrupted recovery img) and using the HTC AIO kit too to flash recovery, always bootloops
as i said, i tried to fastboot flash the recoveries provided with the HTC AIO kit, this also bootloops.
do you have any other ideas? i'd appreciate anything rather than using this as a paperweight lol

Question on 3.18 Firmware

I know that the new roms use a new kernel now.
I'm on 1.14 Hboot
S-ON
*UNLOCKED
*TAMPERED
I am rooted (Not sure if supercid but I assume so)
Since you have to be on 3.18 now, and be S-OFF, Do I have to go back to stock, do official 3.18 OTA and then unlock bootloader and root again?
I'm kind of confused.
(At&t One X)
The best way to do it is just to become s-off and then run the RUU. You need to have SuperCID to get s-off so you'll need to clarify that first. Boot into bootloader, connect your phone to pc (I'm assuming you have adb/fastboot installed on your pc), make sure it says fastboot usb on your phone screen, then open a command prompt in your fastboot folder and issue the following command:
fastboot oem readcid
Hopefully it'll come up as 11111111 or 22222222 and you can continue to the s-off thread here. If it turns out you don't have SuperCID, you'll need to do that first.
While you're doing that you might as well start downloading the 3.18 RUU, then run it once you've completed the previously mentioned steps.
Once the RUU is finished you'll need to flash a custom recovery again, I recommend using TWRP 2.6. Use the following commands:
fastboot flash recovery "TWRP.img"
(Whatever the exact name of the recovery file is, without the talking marks)
fastboot erase cache
fastboot reboot-bootloader
Now you should be able to select recovery and flash whatever ROM you want to.

I'm trying to get back to stock.
Just sick of this phone.
I didn't know about the 2.20 to 3.18 bricking problem with s-on. so I bricked my phone. warranty replacement on it. got the new on, did the ota update to 3.18. used hasoon's tool to root and unlock the bootloader. got soff, downgraded my touch to use the cm10.1 nightly. and just have had a TON of problems since.
phone turning off, getting stuck in boot loops. tried going to cm10.0 and had the same issues, was able to load a backup from the htc sense rom before I put CM on and even that will reboot and get stuck in a boot loop.
I wish I hadn't touched the damn thing.
Now I'm scared to run the RUU 3.18 because last time it bricked my phone.
I do have my boot loader unlocked, on hboot 2.14 and have s-off.
Should I be okay to run that RUU you listed?
Yeah if you're s-off you can just run the RUU and you'll be back to stock.

Help Needed - HTC Sensation Z715e

Firstly, I am very sorry if I have done wrong. But I couldnt just find help in other threads. I want to help a friend fix his Sensation XE Z715e. It stucks/reboots on the HTC BootScreen.
The device is Bootloader Unlocked but S-On. I read some thread and read about the RUU. I relocked the bootloader and ran the RUU. After the whole process... The RUU program said "Completed" but the device is still stuck / Reboots. Is there any other means? Please I would be glad to get early response as I am somewhere I can download any needed file now. I migth not get the chance tomorrow.
Attached is the "fastboot getvar all" details. Please help!
can you show me the detail of RUU that you've already installing..?, i mean..did you already try this RUU..?
if yes..but still stuck..
did you already tried (while your bootloader is still in unlocked state)...tried to installing a boot.img that are extracted from the last custom rom that you've using it..?
or if still stuck..did you already tried to installing a different custom recovery (ofcourse this is while your bootloader is in unlocked state too)...anyway what custom recovery do you had before..?, if before just using cwm..now just tried installing 4ext touch recovery..and after that you tried installing another custom rom...and don't forget to enable smartflash future from 4ext recovery before installing another custom rom..
if still stuck...just tried flashing a boot.img manually from fastboot.. "fastboot flash boot boot.img"

i think there's something problem in emmc partition..but i don't know what's that exactly..
i think the best way to fix that..just brought your sensation to the HTC service center..or 3rd party service center that already had a riff box / jtag tools that can flashing your sensation emmc from the beginning..
Hi,
It seems that you were going along the correct lines with the RUU you were running.
My only suggestion would be to relock your bootloader and try it again.
If it still fails , then, as JJeamy suggests , an HTC center would be the next step.
