Skydrive App - Can't open files - Windows Phone 7 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I have a pdf file on my skydrive which I can access fine from the PC but if I use the skydrive app I get directed to a website with an error message "we can't find that page"?
Is there anything I need to do to be able to access this file on my phone?
Thanks

Try renaming the file.

That's not going to fix it. Any other ideas?

How do you know if you don't try it? It could be a bug in the app that's being caused by a word or letter in the file name. I've seen it hundreds of times with web services especially with file names.

I know because it happens with all files new and old. The only files that open in the SkyDrive app are picture files.

Skydrive
My phone was doing the same thing yesterday. I think it may have something to do with the SkyDrive update. Anyway, I uninstalled the App and reinstalled it, seemed to work for me...

I thought I'd post up what I did to fix it incase anyone else has this problem.
I made new folders for each of the existing folders and copied the files into their new folders. I then deleted the old folders, renamed the new folders to the old folders names and now it works perfectly!
Thanks to Ren13B and gravitynoise for taking the time to reply

Glad you got it working

[Q] Application to copy from PC and paste to phone

is there any app for copy-paste from PC to phone and vice versa?
for example, I found some interesting article in my PC, and I want to copy some part of it to my phone.. I could've send the file via bluetooth, email, or USB connection.. but I think it'd be very neat to just copy the text (not the file) from your PC and paste it on your phone..
or in the opposite direction, I received an interesting SMS from my phone and I want to copy it to my PC..
is there any app like that?
I know that the app Chrome to Phone together with a plugin in either Chrome or Firefox on the computer does exactly that! However I don't know if there's in the opposit direction.

Well this is not an app but at some point I stumbled across this url:
http://qrcode.kaywa.com/img.php?s=8&d=
If u add some text at the end and submit the url u get QR to scan with Barcode Scanner that'll get u the text on ur phone...
Example:
http://qrcode.kaywa.com/img.php?s=8&d=is there any app like that?

It's though 2.2 only and it doesn't work with lower versions of Android because it is a new API.

it's okay.. I'm using 2.2, but I'm from Indonesia.. I've downloaded from the links above, though..
Hmm then it's strange that you don't find it. It's my first entry when searching on Chrome to Phone.
It's not the latest version but a google search resulted in this thread with an apk-file.

Download ES file explorer. You can add your computer as a lan drive (over WiFi) then any folders that are shared can be viewed on your phone. you can copy any file over. i have apks on my computer. If i view them with ES file explorer it coppies them to my phone then installs them. i also transfer music over this way. It might even work the other way if you change the folder permissions on the computer

wow.. I'm not using WiFi.. I'm using bluetooth instead, and it works really well! shared a folder on my laptop and copy-paste from and to phone in that folder.. neat!
Dropbox.
Just install it on your pc, sign up for an account (it's free but you can pay for upgrades to storage size) and install the app on your phone. Tada! Any file you put into your Dropbox folder is downloadable via the Dropbox app. It works both ways!
Edit: Oops just read your entire question. Hm well I guess you can use dropbox but then for your purposes you'd have to copy paste said text to a note app and then upload the note file to dropbox..Can't think of a more direct way.
Maybe you can find an app that has Google Docs integration. Either way you need an internet connection.

I use this all day.
I have a text file and folders that I just edit on my pc and I have it directly here on my iPhone, bb and android phone. It's the best app I've ever used. I have shares folders with friends and I can share files and pictures with them directly from my phone and then it also shows up on my pc the next time I turn it on. It's fantastic.

Photos keeps copying by itself

I transfered some pictures from my mac to the captivate... After a while when i go in the gallery app my pictures are getting duplicated many times... Far as 5x each... And when i try to delete them it takes ages and i have to close the app or else it eats my battery... Anyone is having the same problem?

Photo Dupes
Here is a post from cgm8 (10th December 2010). See if it resolves your problem.
Ok..here is the fix from other thread
With root explorer delete:
- /dbdata/databases/com.android.providers.media/externalXXX.db
- /sdcard/Android/data/com.cooliris.media
reboot
Good luck
photos keep duplicating themselves.
I too had the same issue. I would have 5 copies of each picture in my gallery. I was hesitant to delete the files recommended below with Root Explorer so I just used Root Explorer to rename the files (removed the db on one and the word media on the other) rebooted and many of the dupls disappeared on their own, the originals were fine. We'll see if it lasts.. also, anything I really did want to delete manually deleted very quickly.
I found the easiest way to deal with this is to go into manage applications>all>media storage>clear data...then reboot
problem solved..
I just downloaded sgs tools for captivate then apply the script "clear_thumb_db.txt"
Sent from my SAMSUNG-SGH-I897 using XDA App
Any idea as to what causes this?
well i fixed it using the manage apps option above.. just a few hours after it happened to me.. talk about timing!
This always happens to me if I root/unroot the phone with my sdcard in. If I take it out before hand its fine.
I just mount my phone and open all the massstorages and delete the thumbnail files in the DCIM folders and that works fine. You have to understand all the copies you see are thumbnails and deleting via the phone thru gallery can delete the real image...
i have never un-rooted..

[Q] Where do the files i download from IE go to?

Today I downloaded a zip file which contained some songs. I downloaded them from mediafire using my HTC hd7 which worked perfectly and I could play these songs. The problem arose when I wanted to play them again but was unable to because I could not find them. I tried using file explorer and looked in the temp folder but was unable to find them. Does anyone know where I would be able to found it?

Really? We can do that?
Surprisingly yes however if u close it you won't be able to find it again
Bump anyone know?
i have a same problem but i have 2 problem like this. first one is where is going file when download from explorer and the second one is from email attached files ??
It depends on the type of file
Documents you can do a save as and make them available in the office hub
Pictures are available in the picture hub
I don't believe you can save music and videos, those are likely being stored in temporary internet cache that you don't have access to. If the zip file was in your email, you'd be able to open it again from the email attachment (potentially without having to download it again).
That's quite retarded, why would no Microsoft staff notice these simple issues. Like the copy and paste feature....shouldn't that come with the phone without the need of an update:/
Like Apple with iTunes, they want you to handle your media with the Zune software.
I can't understand why Microsoft follow Apple?
Until WM6.5 we where kings and now with WM7 we are starting to walk again like a 2year old baby.
Because everyone liked iPhone and nobody liked WM6.5
And so Microsoft think why not to lock my new 7version so people just follow me too!!!mmmmmmmmmm
In file manager, navigate to \Application Data\Volatile\EmailAttachments\Attachments(Numbers)\

Goto \Windows\profiles\guest\Temporary Internet Files\Content.IE5
You'd find your file(s) in one of the folders with funny/coded names along with other Internet Explorer cache files.
Note that the \Windows\profiles\guest folder also contains other IE temp data (such as History and Cookies) should you also need them for whatever reason.

not yet. it'll come, but might be a while. yeah, the interop is annoying, but we'll get it eventually.
You really don't need a file explorer. Documents go to the Office hub. Photos go to the Photos hub. PDFs will go to the PDF Reader app (in the Store), and Music lives in the Music+Videos hub. If you want, you can use your free SkyDrive (skydrive.com, log in with your existing Microsoft account) to store whatever you like. You can then access that from the phone using the SkyDrive app in the Windows Phone Store.
Windows Phone does a great job of organizing your data for you. It is not like Android, and will take some getting used to. It is better than an iPhone, though, which restricts you even more, dumbing things down way too far, IMO.

Windows Phone does a great job.. but nothing will ever do a better job than a user who knows what he's doing..
I personally find it extremely frustrating that I can't download a file from my email.. and store it somewhere to attach and send it off to someone else later.
If someone sends me a zip file and I want to store it on my phone.. how does that happen?!

That is a valid point, for users that do actually know what they're doing. It would be nice if Windows Phone provided a sandboxed area to store any type of file, either downloaded via the browser or from an email. However, .zip files can be opened from an email and their contents saved to the phone (if a file type supported by either the built-in functions or an app). Those files can then be re-attached to a new email. You could also just forward the email to someone else, modifying the contents, if you want to send the entire .zip. There is an app in the Store alled Archiver that will open .rar, .gz, .tar, .7z, and .bz2 files and save them for later.

was just using the zip as a reference file.. but it could be anything..
They should really make an app that is a file explorer.
I don't have a WP phone, but I know there's NO WAY to root it or jailbreak. Root = ONLY Android. Jailbreak = ONLY Apple products.
AW: [Q] htc 8x root or jailbreak
I think they mean something similar to root or jailbreak, not exactly the same

But the lumia 920 it's unlock ?
Search the market for "Here Drive" ...
Hi,
Can I ask how to install a .xap app to HTC 8X when you have downloaded from the web page market (pc).
There is no storage card inside the mobile market as the instruction are given from microsoft.

[Q] How to save images that have the same name

Hello everyone,
I used a Screenshot app on my Omnia 7 to take about 800 Screenshots. Since i'm going to get a Lumia 920, i want to transfer those Images to my Computer.
Here's the Problem: The Screenshop- App obviously named all Images "Screenshot.jpg".
When I sync using Zune, Zune creates: Screenshot(1).jpg, Screenshot(2).jpg, ...., Screenshot(99).jpg
all other Images return the error "C00D11CD (C00D1188)"
Therefore I tried to upload them using "photo2cloud".
It names the images for instance "20120807_101926_Screenshot.jpg", but since many Pictures were taken in the same minute, it replaces those.
Any suggestions?
Is there a way of renaming all images in the Folder, or an app that gives every uploaded image an individual Name?
Kind regards from Germany.
Friend, have you heard about folders? you can rename and put the files you want on those and avoid overwriting...
When I changed from the T9292 to the 9295, I already have renamed and organized my folders, also the images folder always goes with the name of the device, mine goes HD7 T9292 (HD7) and T9295 (HD7S), they will never conflict...
I did a workaroud using Automator on a Mac. It synced a file, renamed it, then synced the next file...
-> Solved
