MB865 Indian Retail Firmware FXZ/SBF is out now. Any Devs here?? - Motorola Atrix 2

Hi guys, those who are looking Indian Retail firmware here it is:
Download "5.5.1-EDEM-27-SEARET_cfc.xml.zip" from http://sbf.droid-developers.org/edison/list.php
I confirm this is exact Retail version we have on our phones in India.
Now any devs here who can please create a custom ROM based on this? For those who don't know, Indian firmware doesn't have any restrictions like AT&T. Hotspot, network selection, *#*#4636#*#* menu all work absolutely fine, no bloatware or AT&T crap either. Indian hardware works fine with AT&T firmware so AT&T hardware should work with Indian ROM as well, with no issues.
I request any Devs here to please make a custom ROM out of this Indian firmware. Once it is properly tweaked and modded I know it will be best and most popular ROM for our beloved Atrix 2 so far.

Count me in.
I'm currently working on getting a 100% functional ME865 ROM working on the A2 because it is also much less restricted and has features like call recording, call/sms blocking, and native screenshot features. However I think that a ROM based off the Indian MB865 would be more stable on our AT&T A2 so I'd like to try it . It won't be too hard to get a stock, rooted, deodexed ROM out of the fxz and then I'll see if I can add in some the the ME865's extra features .
I'm downloading the fxz now on super-slow internet. I'll flash tonight and see what I can do (time permitting).

Call recording? Interesting. Indian ROM doesn't have this function. Ever since I moved away from Nokia (years ago), I always missed this thing in Android. Would really look forward to your ROM. And yes, Indian and US hardware is exactly same, even model no. is same, so they can use each other's ROM, tried AT&T ROM on my Indian model and it works flawlessly, if only AT&T crap and restrictions were not there. Patiently waiting for your ROM. Gonna be very popular I believe.

woohoo!!!! another SN production on the way!!! no more gross cwm backups!!!!! hahaha

Don't forget to thank my old friend Skrilax_CZ for hosting the files on his site. We have indeed been partners-in-crime since the old days at M3.

Gonna download and flash 5.5.1-EDEM-27-SEARET_cfc.xml.zip on an AT&T Atrix 2 and see AT&T's restrictions will be gone happily.

WARNING!!!!!
Do not flash the Indian fxz to your phone, even just the system .img! If you flash the whole fxz then it will fail. If you flash the system .img you will get the infamous "Invalid CG Version" error, and you might get it to boot if you flash the boot .img but the phone does not accept the Indian boot.

Thanks for warning, finally I understand that only ATT firmwares are suitable for flashing the whole packet, right?
Atrix 2 is not like Milestone, MS can be flashed any carrier without problems (some FW may improve radio signal)

help please!!!
I have the US version of the Atrix 2, and I tried to flash it with the Indian firmware in RSD Lite. But I got flashing failed error in step 7 of the flashing process. So I tried to flash it with the Original ATT firmware, but it fails in step 3 for the ATT firmware. Please help man, I love this phone

So it all makes sense now, only those phone which are sold in INDIA is supported by that FXZ, since I cannot flash the US FXZ on my Indian Phone, it just does not support!
So I guess, the only way to go ahead with building a ROM from this FXZ is to have a Indian Build phone ...(LOL I sound like racist... ) Then restore the ROM later on US phones!

I believe ASIAOPS is for some particular Asian Operator in some country, I am not sure though. MEARET is Middle East Retail, SEARET is South East Asia Retail.... Initially just guessed this SEARET thing and then matched with my ROM backup.

I'm pretty sure we can use the pieces to build from we just can't flash the whole thing... this gives us a true 2.3.6 to build from rather than updated cwm backups....

Hey man, try one given at http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1539167 I guess this one is simplest method. I once screwed my Indian version and used this and I was up and running in no time whereas flashing through RSD Lite didn't work for me.

Not entirely true. I have been insisting on this in every thread here that AT&T stock works on Indian version BUT if you try and flash 2.3.6 with RSD Lite it fails. I have an Indian version but if you try 2.3.5, particularly from forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1539167 it flashes and works flawlessly, though with AT&T restrictions. I tried every method but this script thing was only method that worked for my Indian Atrix 2, I am not sure how, but it brought my phone to life and then I flashed 2.3.6 over it and it worked, even AT&T version...

PLEASE CAN I ANYONE HELP ME, DID I BRICK MY PHONE???
If the phone boots, it's not bricked. A "brick" is when your phone is stuck in a bootloop, won't turn on at all, etc. making it totally unusable.
I hate to ask the obvious question, but...did you put the AT&T SIM back in after flashing the AT&T radio?

Five bucks says that's your problem. Also, when flashing a new radio, make sure it's compatible with your device. If it's not, you'll get results like above or worse.
When you went to blaze radio did you change apn's to tmo ones

One of the more experienced devs may step in here, but at this point, I think you need to wipe your phone and use the instructions provided to take your phone back to stock. Use Titanium Backup beforehand to back up whatever apps you want (don't back up bloat or system apps considering the nature of your problem) and you can restore them once stock is renewed.
Note: Use the instructions provided! Don't skip steps, do things out of order, or succumb to knee-jerk panic reactions like flashing an incompatible radio without first setting your phone up to be compatible. Make sure you understand what you're doing before you start messing with things, or you probably will find a way to hard-brick your Skyrocket.

New Baseband. No Network. HELP!

Hello XDA!
So, I made the mistake of making an OTA upgrade to my Atrix 2 and this is where Im at.
Sys Version: 55.28.37.MB865.AsiaRetail.en.03
Android Version: 2.3.6
Baseband Version: 2012-03-28 12:22 Off.Bld LUD_EDISON_R1EP29_TO_422313_001_120328_120
I'm running on Vodafone India (Mumbai)
The Phone now no longer catches any network at some places in the city! It shuffles between Emergency Mode, No Network and the Red Slashed Circle.
Funny thing is, It was fine earlier & I do get network on other operators. And what's even more strange is that if i put my SIM in another phone. (SGS3) Im getting full network!
HELP!!!
i had the exact same problem, but with reboot issues too , i solved it by flashing ics zip, because it comes with its own radio.
i have at&t phone though

Been thru the same issue right from the time I bought my phone.
Vodafone Mumbai has Only 32k type of Sim cards (i know this cos ive directly asked them abt it at the vfne store) which arent compatible with the new update (55.28.37). So ur phone cant catch the network and m guessing ur phone is draining a lot of battery too.
I had to switch to Docomo to get a 64k Sim, which is compatible. (though im still using vfne in another phone )
the moto ppl have told me that ICS is gonna sort this issue, but im not too hopeful of that. So better u get another carrier and get that 64k Sim or don't update and wait for ICS. (u'll have to take ur phone to moto service centre to downgrade it)
I got a new Sim cos I was having problems with batt drain and also cos of the non compatible update.
Edit: I used to barely get 9 - 10hrs with the vfne Sim before the update and a 64k Sim sorted that issue too.

New Update on the Problem
Firstly,
Thanks for all the help. You guys are awesome.
I realised that the Motorola Service Center was right next to where I work. So I Uncheesecaked, Unbootstrapped & Unrooted my phone and gave it to those guys to see what they do, exactly.
And in 15 minutes, they downgraded my phone to this version which works:
Sys Version: 55.1.27.MB865.AsiaRetail.en.03
Android Version: 2.3.6
Baseband Version: 2012-01-20 19:57 Off.Bld LUD_EDISON_R1E_PATCH_23_120120_1943
Build Number: 5.5.1-EDEM-27
Result: I have network everywhere now. Its working fine. So this is the baseband I need. But that smoothness which the 55.28.37 had is no longer there.
Nevertheless, I can start modding this phone a fresh now.
Needed to confirm one thing though. If i get myself into this problem again. Which radio from the droiddevelopers website should i flash?
519.2 MiB 63EF21A6DF3869329AB6B0A54CD74F8F Retail Asian <- which ArchMag3 recommended?
OR
517.3 MiB F452799D01461D307BD4F0593066B4CF Retail Asian <- or this one?

Also, If im flashing just the radio, Fastboot flashing is the best way to go right?
And one more thing, Is anyone making a Baseband Switcher like they did with the defy? Or is it just not possible in this phones case?

i am also facing the similar problem after doing an update, i am from India (Mumbai) having 55.28.37.MB865.AsiaRetail.en.03
It would be great if you can explain the steps in more details, as i am confused if i have to unzip the file on computer or on phone, step by step explanation will be more helpful.
my another question was after doing this flash will the warranty be broken ? is this something similar to root the phone. i dont want to break my phone warranty as i have purchased recently just a month back.
Thanks for the help in advance. and awaiting to hear favourable response from you
Regards,
Tushar Harrison.

Hey, If you're new to flashing stuff just head to one of the service centers and they'll roll it back in half an hour. Easy Peasy. In this way you don't have to worry about your warranty as well.
Though I had rooted my phone, i just unrooted it and took it to them and they couldn't realise that i had voided my warranty.
they'll bring it down to the 5.5.1-EDEM-27 firmware, which is available on the link thats provided in this chain.
Hope it works.

Well since no one else is jumping to reply...
I think, yes, you are ok to flash lithium. I am on AT&T and have flashed cogeary's international roms with no problem. And others on international builds have flashed the custom roms built from AT&T... I think.
You only need to worry about the fxz files for your specific build.
Can someone please confirm or correct this info?

Just stick to SEARET and MEARET roms, because flashing AT&T roms might go wrong, they don't seem to be stable not very stable, but they do work, they don't have bugs either not a lot of them. Well to be honest, I wouldn't even care about flashing AT&T roms. Bullet is a good rom based on Indian I guess which u might like and yes if something goes wrong you can always Fxz back to SEARET or MEARET which are the safest for you. If you have anymore question just ask.

In theory, yes.

[Q] US AT&T A2 soft bricked while OTA and another question

hello
well to make it short i bought the atrix 2 from the US early when it came out and then i came to Dubai and all the annoying bloatware for AT&T have became more annoying by (NOT WORKING) when i was leaving i called them and they gave me the unlock code so im using the phone in Dubai, UAE and its working great, im on Victory Rom (Best rom ever) clean and elegant.
---------
now i found there is official ICS firmware for UAE Retails and it has the same number as my phone MB865 so my question is: can i flash that firmware to my AT&T phone ? and incase that is not possible, if i want a clean ICS ROM (made from the official OTA update not the leak) where i can find it ? and lastly if all is not possible what is the cleanest quickest and best ROM and will it work if i update to OTA ICS ?
sorry for taking too long and Thanks in advance
----------
that was what i wrote earlier but now i tried to do OTA and the phone stuck on the dual core technology screen so im thinking to Fxz but i dont know if i should do it for GB 2.3.6 or ICS ?
thanks a lot

To be very honest with you and AFAIK no one had tried to fxz to ICS from GB.but in theory it should work.
But this is what I'll suggest fxz to 2.3.6 and try OTAing.it should take you to ICS directly.

Ok so get this very clear if you phone it's AT&T one(it has AT&T written on the bottom) then you can't flash any other firmware.your only option is the AT&T firmware( from here).
And there are lots of ROMs that you can try.
StockyEd is pure OTA version of ICS.
Others are Numa, swifty trix ,scv7.Also we have CM10.

OTA updates for rooted phones

Hey guys.. A lot of us have rooted our phones and won't be able to get the OTA updates.. I thought of starting this thread to see if it is possible for the people with unrooted devices(if there are any here!) to let us know if they get an update...

If you are on stock ROM but rooted you still get an OTA 'alert' and can download it and save it. You just can't install it.

If a new OTA would arrive, couldn't we just flash back to stock and receive the OTA that way? Seems to me that would work, but I don't know if it'd actually install on a unlocked bootloader.

You can flash ota on unlocked bootloader
Well if I remember correctly, I did update my phone while rooted. All it took was a temporary unroot just in case, and restoring the stock recovery. YMMV, I had the French ROM. After that I just restored root access and I was good to go. So obviously with an unlocked bootloader

Hey, so, I have stock Recovery, but its rooted, if I unroot it temporarily, and then root again, everything should be ok right?

if you are on stock recovery then it should work without unrooting imo... but yes what you are saying will definitely work.

Had a bit of trouble updating my friend's Koodo XT1032 earlier this week.
Was still on original JB ROM, unlocked BL, rooted. Got OTA notification, tried installing, but would always fail.
Tried unrooting, still failed.
Decided to go all in: download the whole Telus/Koodo KitKat ROM (got link from one of the reference threads here) and dirty flash that, then root.
Used mfastboot on Linux (from a Chromebook with Crouton no less!) and flashed everything in order as explained in every tutorial thread out here with the exception of not clearing user data. (We did clear cache.)
I wanted to boot CWM from mfastboot to root but the phone just rebooted into it's normal mode for some reason. Flashed it instead and rooted with the latest SuperSU zip.
Booted into KitKat, everything looked alright, except the phone had no service. One reboot and everything was back to normal (IMEI is OK, had been backed up).
We got notification that there was another OTA available, turns out the ROM we had was missing the bugfix update. Decided to try our luck applying it with CWM, worked, and somewhat to my surprise, CWM was not overwritten.
Hi guys.
I bought a Motorola Moto G (XT1032) and i'm trying to unlock bootloader and then have root permission.
I'm still on Android 4.3 (i have not install KitKat OTA update despite i received the notification).
I think i understand that if you root your device you will not be able to receive future OTA update (

So, i'm going to ask to you: can be better if i first update to KitKit my device and then unlock bootloader & give root permission?
Thank in advance for your answers.

yes i would suggest you update your device fully before unlocking the bootloader. you would still get the update with the unlocked bootloader and a rooted phone, as long as you are on stock rom(atleast that is what i have been told.. not sure as i have not had ota since i got the phone), installing that update might be a pain... so its better you update the phone fully.

Thanks! So, you suggest to fully update my Moto G (XT1032) to KitKat and then unlock bootloader and give root permission, isn't it?
Can be any problem when i will go to unlock bootloader and give root permission after the update? For now, i think to stay with my stock ROM (maybe in future I will install a custom ROM)
I mean, all guides refer to Android 4.3 Jelly Bean...or not?
Thanks for your help

No there would not be any problem.. android 4.4.2 rooting guides are out and are working perfectly fine..
Infact, i got my phone pre loaded with kitkat and had no issues in rooting it!

Glad to known this. So I Will update my XT1032 to KitKat and then unlock BT & give root permissions. Can i still use guides from Motorola website (to unlock BT) & from Modaco forum (for rooting)? The guides are linked in Q&A of Moto G
Thanks for your patience. ^_^

Yes you can use the motorola guide for BL unlock and the modoco guide for rooting. The superboot method worked like a charm for me ?

so let me get this straight, I'm on stock kitkat (Came with my phone, XT1033 Dual sim) I have unlocked my bootloader, installed cwm and rooted the phone but everything else is stock. If an OTA update comes out, i reflash the original Recovery.img for my firmware and i should be fine to install OTA?

Don't suggest to use Modoco guide. It won't work in some phone... Easiest way is flash cwm recovery and flash super su. Zip....
