HFS or EB? - T-Mobile LG G2x

So to anyone who experienced best of both worlds of the 2 ICS roms, which one do you like more?

It's hard to decide but from what I've been seen HFS seems to be a fan favorite.

When I used EB, it felt really stable, but it's missing so many tweaks that other roms have and you really can't customize it much. I've been bouncing back and forth between different roms, but I'm looking to jump right back to EB as soon as they release a new build. I just hopped on HFS again after being on AOKP and Genesis and I'm loving it. HFS 1.4 was actually my first ICS rom and I've used that one longer than other because it worked fine and didn't see any reason to switch.

Ok, typical question. HFS and EB are both really good. If your looking for more customization, HFS is most definitely the way to go. If you could really care less about that then go for EB.
If you get HFS, be careful on the versions. With v1.7 you need the update harsh kernel to use usb mass storage. It'll tell you that when you look at the HFS thread.
EB uses the FAUX kernel. I forget which one came with it. I changed kernels after a little while. Not sure why, I didn't have any problems with the faux kernel and only led myself to have a much shorter battery life. So be careful.
Other then that , they're both very stable, both run very smooth, and both are good on battery life.
The choice comes down to preference.

HFS with Faux kernel gets my vote.
I am not really that cutting edge... I just like stability, a charge that lasts the day, and a smooth interface. It has these.

Any CM7 Based ROMS cause SOD or Reboots

I just got a used G2x (traded for a Galaxy S 4G), and I can run a stock rom just fine, but ANY CM7 ROM causes Sleep of Death, or reboots (actually, both!)...I've tried multiple kernels, and can't figure it out.
It will SOD within just a few minutes...any suggestions?

If you are having problems with CM7, then you should try Weapon G2X or Faux's 1.3.1 AOSP ROM. They both are great. Weapon G2X is more for someone who wants a fully functional G2x, like A2DP and HDMI capabilities. Faux 1.3.1 with the trinity or faux kernel is for someone looking for a very fast phone. Though it does lack the HDMI and A2DP capabilities. You have to kind of pick which one you like more. If I was you I would try them both out and make nandroids of both of them and figure out what you like.
I'm on Weapon now, and it works great, except that there are just a few things that drive me insane with any stock based build...
I used Faux123's AOSP build, and it worked fairly well, but still had SOD issue's.
I was hoping that maybe there was a solution, but probably not...maybe I'll try to go back to Faux's build.

Most stable ROM

Hey guys,
I was just wondering if you guys could recommend a stable ROM I been reading around and it seems like Weapon is the one with the least hiccups. I just want something that is stable, no weird bugs, with good battery and I won't really have to update every week because there has to be things fixed. Let me know. Thanks!
(It's for the GF she doesn't really know how to flash stuff)
CyanogenMod 7.1
Try Ultimate G2X.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1103342
- Everything works
- Very stable
- Great battery life
- Beautiful and snappy/quick user interface
- Has the original fully-functional LG camera app
- Based on stock 2.2.2 so all hardware is fully functional and fully supported
This rom is the one I always go back to. It never gives me any issues and everything just works.
If it's for the GF, PLEASE take your time to flash MIUI, it's very simple/stable/customizable.

Maybe it's just me but MMS didn't work on any version over 2.3.3 and I had battery life issues.
Most stable is definitely weapon 2.8 with stock kernel.
All is fine for me. Except sometimes trouble with MMS over wifi but other than that...
Trying Ultimate to get the camera back to basics. Loading it now - is there a kernel you suggest for this, or no?
You don't have to use Ultimate to get your cam back to basics. He offers a separate link for anyone who wants it. Though...can't say if it plays nice with the other roms or not. I've still yet to flash any roms.
Weapon 2.8 with faux's oc/uv kernel has been the best, smoothest, least problematic rom/kernel combo I could find.
Everything works, it's super-smooth, super-stable, and it looks great.
No wifi issues, no weirdness, and fantastic battery life, even while [email protected]
The one-and-only down side is that it has a longer than normal boot time, as the kernel rebuilds the dalvik cache on every boot.
Yeah i agree, got my g2x for about nearly half a year now, the best rom ive ever used is weapon 2.8 with sv kernel faux. No bugs, data works fine, no freezes, heat ups, or battery pulls. Battery is great, from morning til comming home at 3am with 33% still.
But if you love personalizing then get miui, although ii never figured what kernel works for miui though

Calling All Rogers Users

What ROM/Kernel setup are you guys using that you've found good stability with?
Any suggestions?
Skyrocketeer with flashed Rogers radio. It's very stable, had some slight issues with the sms timestamps but with the help of SMStimeFIX from market it was solved. Also still looking to confirm if i obtain full 50mb/s LTE speed but until i got back to that spot where i always get it, i wont be able to confirm. It's a nice looking rom, snappy, fast, good battery life, nice emprovements
Stock rom. I've tried a few, including sky ics. Good rom but I still found stock more stable. But it depends on the user. I don't like to search as to why apps keep fcing. I just like it when I use my phone that it runs smooth. The rogers stock is good. Isn't any bloaware to slow it down. However I did get rid of the odd app and widget installed
hey i tried some roms soo far. the roms/kernel id recommend is either use sky/tpc/rocketeer. kernel wise id stay away from all kernels i mean no offence given devs work hard on kernel, but unless you rogers folks wanted a heat around camera area for everyday i know i don't use stock rogers kernel its snappy @ 1.5ghz + no lags + my heavy day to day lasts me 1 and 1/2 day with full use of wifi,bt,browser and games. just remove all the bloatware and u'll see.
Stock Rom for me, although I have started to play with Go Launcher to spice things up a little bit. Waiting for ICS my self.
Stock here as well, tried a few roms, and aside from over or under clocking, which I love, there haven't been any roms or kernels as stable so far. If someone comes up with a great way to 'clock let's hear it!
Also, anyone have a comprehensive list of bloatware on the 727R yet? That's a post I'd love to see!
Sent from my rooted SGS2 I727R using stock, until something really stable comes along
Runnin skyicecream sandwich jugglin between faux and romracer kernel cant get the romracer to deepsleep. Running faux at 1.5gz max with setcpu and its pretty stable no fc or sod. Smooth and fast.
rooted using sky ICS
tried cyanogen for a bit and liked it but sky ics just looks so nice. i get a few fcs but it doesnt bother me cause it reboots the program real fast
really good battery life on it, 15 hours at 70%
I've been on Android for over 3 years now..
Had so many different roms on my devices. This one I've used syrocketeer, was nice, smooth stable, not many issues.
Tried SkyIce Cream Sandwich rom. Was pissed off it was just a theme of ICS on 2.3.6 IMO name is very misleading, but whatever, to each his own. Was a good stable rom if you want a nice overlay of ICS, had a few issues with FC but the dev gives pretty good instructions on how to fix it.
Most of these I was running primarily until Cyanogen team came out with something stable enough to put on my phone. As I've always found CM to be the best thing you can run.
Newest build for me has been very stable - running Da_G kernel. No issues except for the call issue posted in their forums. I think that was supposed to be fixed in the latest update, however I haven't gotten around to updating. Turning GPS on seemed to work to fix the issue tho. I would never change to anything else (unless real ICS rom came out, then would only stay on that till CM9 came out with a stable enough release)
I have confirmed in most parts of Toronto where reception is decent enough I'm getting an average of 30+ mbps. Closer to downtown core upwards of 40mbps and in a few cases up to 58mbps. So LTE works great on that ROM as well.
i use Bouyancy 1.2.1 with 360 launcher doesn't change baseband smooth and snappy
SkyRocket ICS 2.9.2
faux kernal 2.6.35.14......
max clock 1.296
min clock 384
screen off max 384
screen off min 192
runs smooth as hell, great battery life
not one issue with ANYTHING!!!
Sky is very smooth and nice with faux kernel no problems here
TPC V3 with Da_g 0.43 kernel. No issue at all. Very stable.
Sent from my SGH-I727R using xda premium
using sky ics for a few weeks now with no fc's on either faux or rom racer kernal.
Rooted, stock rom & kernel, ADW launcher.
I was loving Darkyy on my SGS but even though I played with a couple ROMS and kernels on the SII LTE I went back to stock. Solid, fast, and good battery life.
I did freeze and uninstall most of what I could identify as bloatware and the horrid touchwiz slowpoke. I picked up ADW EX when it was on the 10 for 0.10 sale, and like it better (landscape mode and the ability to customize the dock easily is a big bonus).
Jamie
Using the Stock rom. Haven't had one issue with it and since I'm coming from a Touch pro 2 running WM 6.1 this thing is fast enough as is......For now.
Stock myself, played around with a few ROMs but ended up liking the reliability of the stock. Eagerly awaiting ICS and CM 9.
I have flashed almost all of the ROMs on here and in my opinion the snappiest one was the Quikwiz 1.0.3 and skyrocketeer was pretty quick as well. Right now im running stock though because as almost everybody said it is the most stable build for Rogers rightnow. I am trying to get the stock-ish kernel by romracer on my phone right now. If anybody has flashed that i would like to know how the battery and speed were? Thanks
Stock Rom for me, i tried Da_G's Kernel but got alot of SOD's. There were a few fixes such as deleting modules etc but none of those ever fixed it. Sadly I'm getting poor battery life on my Samsung Galaxy S2 LTE even with JuiceDefender Ultimate installed. Before JuiceDefender I was about to take the phone back, now it's just sub par battery life. As for now I'm done with messing around on flashing the phone , at least until we get our stock ICS ROM. It should be coming out soon, that's my hope.
I've flashed Sky and TPC. Both are fairly stable, but I'm not getting any where close to the battery life some of these AT&T guys are getting.
I'm a fairly heavy user—LTE on all day, but I have wifi on at work and home.
I personally don't feel that flashing a new ROM has done anything for my battery life, however it HAS improved my usability factor (both Sky and TPC have been able to grant me a sizeable performance increase).

[Q] hellfire pheonix vs eaglesblood

title explains all. which do you like better and why? which is better battery life wise, speed wise and feature wise. which one are you on? ill probably be trying eaglesblood very soon

youre going to get conflicting opinions because different people have different experiences with the same ROMs. best way to choose a rom is to try them for yourself.
Hellfire all the way. I used to be a weapon G2X fan.

Hellfire Phoenix
I dunno man, it's honestly all the same to me. I've tried CM7, CM7 Cheery Pick Kang, EaglesBlood and Phoenix Blood... er I mean Hellfire Phoenix.
All run really fast and almost to no lag. And since it's from the same source all of them have the same bugs/problems. Each ROM opens apps as quick as can be. And if one is truly faster than the other, then I guess the fraction of a second speed is too little to notice with the naked eye.
Although if you look at EaglesBlood's OP he seems to have changed a lot. He's changed thing like changing it to GPU rendering rather than CPU. So I'd imagine that would make things better. So I guess you can go ahead and try that first.
Anyways, good luck man.
Thanks guys Ya iv tried CM7 and Im currently on hellfire Phoenix and there really isn't that much of a difference it mite b a bit faster and has better battery life but that's about it

Hellfire Phoenix
I've been running HP since v1.6. This ROM has been stable from me from day one. I prefer flashing morphic's Trinity kernel, instead of the Faux123 kernel supplied with the ROM, but that is a matter of preference.
Just flashed Hellfire Sandwich v1.0-beta, which is x0xhellx0x first version of ICS, so far so good.
x0xhellx0x is very active in the G2x Android Dev forum. Check it out. I would also check out Eagles Blood, to figure out your preference.
PartzMan2
T-Mobile G2x, overclocked to 1200 Mhz
ROM Hellfire Phoenix v1.9 (testing Hellfire Sandwich v1.0-beta
Kernel Trinity Kernel T-15 (1560 Mhz
I'm definitely a Hellfire Phoenix fan but then again I didn't really give the others a real chance. Hell is so customer friendly and updates so often that I've decided to stick with him for now.

Personally i love Weapon G2x. its the most functional rom all around, stock based so EVERYTHING works how its supposed to. GPS, Alarm, Camera (ffc too), HDMI, Swype (if you use it) etc.etc. Ive never experienced any bugs ever, ran it stock (no OC kernal) etc the longest of any rom, snappy, customizable (check themes section). everything works, battery life is normal to better than normal (depending on device/usage). For me personally its the best ive used so far. ive tried almost every rom so far at least once. Absolute best thing to do
Is run them yourself and see what works best for you. as mentioned. devices all work differently as you can tell by reading through the forums.
They all have their own draws. For me i've found that the two above are my favorite. Phoenixblood because of the pulldown toggle bar which i can actually edit, the speed(which for me at least) is faster than any other rom i've tried, and theme chooser which comes with all CM7 roms; however i hate the camera on the cm7 builds like PB. As for weapon i like the LG camera w/stability built in, and the fact that i can edit which widgets appear in my power bar pulldown menu. All a matter of preference though, try em all out battery is pretty good for both, depending on the settings (setpcu, kernal type etc).
I got my g2x about a week ago, and I've been using Hellfire Phoenix for the past few days, first 1.8 then 1.9.
I originally downloaded several roms with the intention of trying them all, and liked HFP so much I never bothered with the others. It is almost flawless IMHO. My wife's got a g2x too, still on the stock rom. She originally rolled her eyes thinking I was going to ruin my new phone. After showing her what it could do, now she wants me to to flash hers too.
The biggest issue i've run into is one that's mentioned a lot already on the forums; the video camera is just slightly laggy. One other minor annoyance is that I can't get "compass mode" to work in Google Maps, though the compass and accelerometer work fine in street view and other apps. Compass mode was working in the stock LG GB rom. I read somewhere (don't remember where) that switching kernels helped some with gmaps issues like that. I'm debating trying that because everything else rocks.
ROM of choice
I'm pretty partial to Hellfire Phoenix v1.9. Have played around with straight CM7, which was good, Eagle's Blood, and CM9 alpha.
HP is very stable, quick, does what I need and want to do. The dev, x0xhellx0x, is very responsive to problems and suggestions.
My advice is to flash several different ROMs, running each for a day or two, then choose which you like best.

ROM Hellfire Phoenix v1.9 (testing Hellfire Sandwich v1.0-beta)
Kernel Trinity Kernel T-15 (1560 Mhz)
Hellfire Sandwich is pretty Neat
Its a pretty nice one to use, even though its pretty new, but so far its one of my favorites.

I hate to say this, but Weapon was my ROM out of the box, until I came across Eagleblood and I can tell you that WITHOUT A DOUBT that Eaglesblood is WAY BETTER! I don't mean nicer to look at, or that stuff, I mean that the OS operation BETTER! Better responses to touches, better multi-touch, and so on.
EAGLESBLOOD!
