[Q] How do I root my myTouch 4G Slide without using a computer? - T-Mobile myTouch 4G Slide

HTC Sense is just not my thing, I don't like it one bit. I need to root so I can flash a ROM onto my phone. I don't need S-OFF because I don't plan on flashing an ICS ROM.
I looked for ways to root but you need a usb cable to proceed with the rooting. Thing is, I don't have one... Is there a way to root without the use of a computer? Perhaps a certain one click root method? My phone is 2.3.4 gingerbread.
Thanks for all the help!

You're definitely going to need a computer. Sorry if that's not the answer you were looking for. Luckily you can find a cable like this one pretty cheap.
Good Luck,
Michael

If you already have clockworkmod recovery installed, then you can flash a ROM from your phone without a computer.
If you were S-OFF then you could use one of the custom PG59IMG.zip packages I've made to get clockworkmod recovery onto the device without a computer.
If you are S-ON and stock, then you need a computer to hack your device.
If you can figure out a way of escalating yourself to root level privileges without a computer on a fresh factory device with security enabled, the entire community would love to know about it.

Would z4root work?

Just hook it up to a computer. If you're not using any of the OTA patches use Revolutionary. That takes about 15 minutes tops to do. The hardest part is to flash the Superuser.apk through recovery (that has to be tried about five or six times for it to stick).

2.31.651.7 fix.... No computers... No flash backs... Just root, recover and flash!!!

After receiving my second Hero I had noticed something weird about its software version... From what I remembered, it started with 2.27 on the last one I had and raised my curiosity/concern. I had heard about a root patch that was being sent out OTA by Sprint and after a little digging found the extremes that everyone was going through to achieve a successful root. The most common was to flash back .6 then to .5 which doesn't have the patch. I spent over an hour trying to find ANY copy of the 2.31.651.6 update and could not find anything. Then there where methods using the SDK which I'm sure could work, however the bootloader was a b!tch to access. I thought it would be entertaining to see If Sprint's new .7 root patched could be broken simply by the android market and third party developers; no use of Odin, unrevoked, HTC sync, no messing with debugging, not custom 2.31.651.7 (careful) and absolutely no flash backs! So here it is... enjoy.
All you will need ready is:
1).zip file of whichever OS you plan to flash. (I prefer the cm build's).
2)Rom Manager from the market (work's well with clockwork and cm).
3)Heroroot101.apk (Don't remember if it's on the market or third party).
4)NANDROID!!!!!!
All you do is run heroroot010 and push the root me button.
Reboot your phone and let it fully boot back up (give it a minute or two).
Turn it off and boot into recovery by holding down volume button and power.
I'll be damned there is a recovery image now by darchstar.
At this time there is no need to wipe just choose and flash rootme.zip
When you reboot you will see that sprint know's you're rooted already and wants to update you... This is fine.
Open Rom Manager, flash Clockwork (replacing darchstar) reboot into recovery mode and flash your new OS (DON'T FORGET TO WIPE).
I like your detailed method, but SuperOneClick was really easy too.
Install HTC Sync (v2 for Hero)
Enable USB debugging
Open SOC
Click Root
Plug in phone when prompted
Wait a bit.... then done.
There really is alot of outdated information on these forums. All versions of the stock ROMs can be rooted one way or another.
Above is two possible solutions
I agree with porkrinds but y would you replace Darchstar Recovery its the best IMO Thanks Darchstar

Forum update, prune, re-sticky time?
I used one click method & there's no recovery image.
Great Way to Root Hero with 2.31
Used this without a hitch, has recovery & all took about 2 minutes...

Hey man I just used your little posts instructions to root my Wife's hero (my evo is already rooted)
I can't believe how easy that was thanks so much everything appears to be working I have superuser authority and am going to try flashing a new rom momentarily

Did somethign wrong, need help quick!

So I rooted my phone with the ace hack kit a while ago, put a rom on it and all was good. Well earlier I got a galaxy s2 skyrocket and was giving my old one to a family member, I hit factory restore in the setting and it did what it was supposed to then got stuck on this black screen that says android in a shining letters. I tried rest from Hboot, soft reset(battery out), and running the original software. my computer however refuses to connect to the computer, so I can't flash the original software to it. once I get to Hboot, it just sits there.
Any ideas on what to do to fix this?
Also, I need to get rid of the root and all custom stuff. So I just need a way to connect it to my computer and flash the original software onto it.

Of course when you go into hboot it will stay there. You have to use volume keys for option ex. recovery, shut down. You have to use the ace hack kit to unroot and s-on , you can not just take the official from and install it when rooted. You have to unroot phone. You can just place stock rooted rom on phone. Just place in root of sd card then boot into hboot and when it ask volume up for yes and let it do its thing then reboot when told to.

If you factory reseted the phone you erased the usb debugging...you won´t be able to connect it then. Just flash a RUU, and that will revert to stock rom. Then, run the Hack Kit to revert to S-ON.

[Q] Rooting at&t HOX with 4.2.0.001 drivers

Hey guys I have been searching all over the place for this answer and I just cant seem to find anything on the topic.
This is my first time tinkering with my HTC One X (old version 4.0.3) and downloaded the most updated drivers which is where I believe I went wrong.
I have the 4.2.0.001 drivers and when I open the root.zip file nothing happens I get no errors I just get the "your HTC One X is rooted..." yet my phone simply doesn't reboot.
So I attempted to install the downgraded drivers the 3.0.0.007 which looking back has been the recommended drivers, however; when I extract those files and head into my device manager it does not pull up the androidusb.inf file to upload the 3.0.0.007 drivers.
Am I missing a proper BMP USB Driver and where can I find it? Or is there a root file that will work with the 4.2.0.001 drivers?
If there is any link to this topic please post it, I am very new to rooting or if I have made any mistakes please let me know.

Drivers are drivers. You can root with either. Old new, doesn't matter. It just allows your phone to be recognized by fastboot and ADB, that's all.

The root methods simply give you temp root and super cid so you can unlock the bootloader. *facepalm*
Then when your bootloader is unlocked you can flash recovery and then flash su through recovery or install a custom rom which will already be rooted.

damn im an idiot haha thank you for clearing this up
I guess I am not understanding the core concept here, so I now I theoretically have a temp root with Super CID. I was under the impression that I was supposed to download Titanium Backup before attempting to unlock the bootloader. So I went to download and it told me I did not have root access so I could not run Titanium. I am afraid to attempt a bootloader unlock with out my rom being backed up. Can you please shed some light on this or post a link that would explain the process after temp root in detail thank you

You can backup after your bootloader is unlocked.. bootloader unlock is just a flag that allows you to flash certain partitions like recovery.
Backing up before or after will make no difference. If you end up really messing up your device, a backup won't save you anyway so I don't see why you'd be worried. If you S-OFF, you can RUU to get back to stock any time no problem, unless you full on brick. Then only jtagg will save you.
Typically before I root a phone, I read all the stickies in all the subsections to understand how things work since every phone has differences, some subtle some not so subtle.

Question on how to root LG G2X P999

Hi all
I currently have an unrooted T-Mobile LG G2X running Android 2.3.4 and i was wondering if there's anyway to root and install ROMs and such without needing a computer whatsoever.. Any comments will be much appreciated
No
Sent from my LG-P999
lol. Unfortunately a computer is needed in order to root the phone. Without it, you will not be able to install CWM Recovery, which is really the only thing you NEED the computer for as far as rooting is concerned. If you can get your hands on a PC and get CWM recovery on it you can just download and flash the root.zip file for the G2X all from your phone. Good luck.

Just bought one!

I bought a MyTouch on Amazon for 43 dollars.
Can someone provide a simple guide for me so I can update it to the latest CWM? I've never done any mods with an HTC like this and when I did it was the Hero and I hard bricked it. I had a few G1's, too...
Anyway, can someone PM me or reply to this? I need something quick and easy.
Starting from Rooting and finishishing at CM install.
My current device is an LG Phoenix, so... Big Upgrade!

I would start with this thread:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1801106
It will unlock your bootloader, add CWM, and root your (arriving) phone (in that order). If there are any dead links, I should be able to help out (except for the drivers - you can either try ADBSetup or use Linux to unlock the bootloader).
I would skip Juopunutbear unless you are planning to flash every other week . I did it, it's no big deal, but the best I got out of S-OFF was to change the start-up logo (before the bootanimation).
Hope this gives an idea.

So what if I don't have Admin privileges on a computer? Will Fastboot and ADB still work? I don't know about the drivers...
And I had the original myTouch 3G and I installed the Visionary (the one with the yellow triangle with the lightning bolt hitting a guy) APK file. I was able to flash CWM Recovery after Visionary rooted the device. Is it possible to flash ROMS using CWM instead of unlocking the bootloader?

Probably not. I haven't seen a situation where drivers can install without admin priv.

That would be gaining root through an exploit. If I recall correctly, all of those have been sealed in future OTA's. The only way that makes sense (that is, not trying every rooting package out there) is to unlock the bootloader first. It's really not that bad.

The MT4GS I'm getting is running Gingerbread. If I use GingerBreak APK to root the phone and install CWM, can I still back up the stock OS? And for future reference, how would I keep the baseband once I'm ready to flash ROMs? Like the IMEI and stuff like that?
And the guide that you directed me towards is slightly complicated.
Is there an APK that can turn S-Off? if so, how reliable is it?
And for future reference (I like saying that) the ETA for device delivery is Wednesday on the East Coast of the United States.

Getting out of my comfort zone here, but that should be possible. CWM will be able to back up system and boot, effectively the stock OS.
Haven't heard of people losing their IMEI's with this phone, nor of any backup to protect it, so that should be fine.
When I went through it, I found the guide a bit daunting as well, but you get used to it (alternatively there is below, which I never used).
There is no APK to S-Off (too complicated for a user app, and your phone would be upside down half the time thus making the screen unreadable), but there is this that can speed up the process:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2438884
This can root as well. It's no APK, but should get the job done.

*cringes* Windows admin priiivveellleges.....?
And can we just talk about this through PM? the XDA site is destroying my data. The app is better.
s-off has gotten easier. juopunutbear (or however you spell it) is no longer needed. rumrunner s-off is by far easier to use. this is what I used combined with the windroid program to root.
I bought one from a liquidator online. Brand new, out of the box, with the plastic still on the screen and stuff. Unmarked battery, though. Charges a bit too fast. Was labelled as "refurbished" but came in the original manufacturer box with original PC sync cable and chager. I found a way to root the stock ROM without S-OFF, just with CWM. All I had t do was flash a 2.3.6 ZIP that had the SU binary and the .apk file for the Samsung Galaxy Admire. It works on the really stupid Huawei model, too. Which, I installed the Raspberry Pi variation of SliTaz on it, and it works great! But as soon as I came back to my apartment from work I unlocked the bootloader(HTC model), installed CWM, flashed the ZIP fro 1.4 DS, and then did a backup of my old non-functional broken peice of shi...Yeah, and then then flashed the boot image through fastboot, and then restored my backup. My point is, though, my Minecraft PE and my Ravensword 2 installations diappeared after restoring the backup. Any ideas of why this happened?
